So I'm thinking about filling one or more of the Frank Castle prompts, but I'm worried about writing a character who hasn't been in the show yet. In short, I'm looking for comics that give a good sense of Frank as a character on his own and/or that are good examples of his relationship with Matt/Daredevil.
What would be a good place to start? Any recommendations welcome.

I know this might not quite be the place for this, but I recently moved to a new city away from my family and I've been kind of low. The amount of time I spend crying about the commuter train full of shelved dreams and the way my new colleagues don't say 'bless you' when somebody sneezes or even 'thank you' most of the time when someone passes them a pen or something (and not because I haven't been away from my sister for so long before and I don't know when I'll see my Gran next, of course not) is inversely proportional to the amount of time I spend on this meme.

Fear actually. Foggy is utterly terrified about what the future is going to hold because this is a MAJOR risk but he trusts Matt and thinks this is the right thing to do so he's doing it.
But he's still wetting his pants a bit with fear. Or exaggerating that he is to show exactly how scared he is.

okay, so: I've run into fics where they describe Matt's weapon of choice as a billy club (or clubs), and while I don't really mind per se, I sort of didn't see his iconic billy club in sight? I think they're escrima sticks--at least, that's how I've been referring to them in my fic.

In my ongoing quest to have all my loved ones watch Daredevil because I know they'll all adore it, I have now watched Season 1 a number of times through with a number of different people. Now, I am blessed with a very engaged family who vocalise what they're thinking as the show happens ("Ooh, I think so-and-so is going to die", "That's going to be important later isn't it?", etc). And it's been FASCINATING knowing what's going to happen and listening to others theorise about what THEY think is going to happen.
A short run down for most/all my family members: they ALL thought Wesley was somehow playing everyone off against one another and would eventually betray Fisk, most thought Karen would die after she visited Mrs Vistain (that fake-out nightmare got a lot of people) but didn't expect Ben's death until Fisk was in the living room with him, EVERYONE thought Fisk would end up in a showdown with Matt and somehow end up dying but not by Matt's hand, and up until his betrayal, most thought Leland was the only sensible one of the 'criminal elements'.
So I'm interested, anons. What things did you expect to happen that didn't? What surprised you?

Eh, there are a lot of people out there who love their kids but are still bad at being parents anyway; that's why things like CPS and foster care exist. Jack loved his son, and wanted to provide the world for Matt. He did his best. But he was still kind of a terrible dad.
Foggy does seems to drink his feelings.

So, I've been reading some Punisher comics, and despite what the meme would have us believe, it seems like him and Matt having a romantic and/or sexual relationship would be really hard to pull off while keeping them both somewhat in character.
For one thing, Frank Castle doesn't seem to be interested in romance. He's slept with people a few times over the years, but given his origin story, it seems pretty unlikely that he would want to get involved in anything serious. (Except apparently he and Elektra have a thing, wtf is that?) Now, add to that the fact that he seems to think of Matt/Daredevil as a naive idiot and a hindrance, and it's really hard for me to imagine that he'd ever actually try to start something there.
Then there's Matt's side of the issue. Matt's serious, fundamental problems with Frank's methods would seem to preclude any interest in furthering their relationship beyond what's absolutely necessary for both of their jobs. (I imagine it would be difficult for Matt to be around somebody who always smells like gunsmoke and blood.) Probably the only way I could see Matt actually letting Frank in a little would be if Frank swore not to kill anyone, which would a) make him a lot less interesting and b) would never last.
The only times in the comics I've read so far where it seems like a real close relationship could develop between them is in AUs where Frank only knows Matt as his lawyer, most obviously in the AU Powerless. The thing about that series is that Matt actually gets to work trying to redeem Frank before he becomes the Punisher, before he actually murders anybody. And that's maybe the only way I can see Matt/Frank happening: if Frank never becomes the Punisher.
But... but... I really want to ship it! Please anons, help me see how it could work.

In the comics, Matt grew up thinking his mom was dead. Jack told him she was dead and he didn't find out that she was a alive until he became Daredevil.
In the show, I always figured that he thought his mom was dead, but so many fics portray Matt as knowing about his mom walking out, I'm wondering if I missed something.

One of the nuns tells Stick (I believe) that Matt has no family except his mom and implies she's a mess of somesort. I don't know if Matt knows his mother is alive or not, though.

i've never been this interested in a thing before (sure, i've dipped my toes into other fandoms but i have cannonballed/belly-flopped into this one) so i only have limited knowledge regarding fandom + i was just wondering if it's typical for a fandom to be super nitpicky about innocuous details or is the daredevil fandom just particularly prone to nitpicking?? i'm not bagging anyone out, no-one's been rude in their nitpicking + it's not an issue (in fact, it can be pretty helpful), i'm just curious!!

Because that seemed like a pretty weird question to me. I wonder if there was some history behind it, part of the conversation that we didn't see. If someone asked me that, I would have no idea, but I would have been around the age Matt was. Guys, I rewatched the episode Stick and noticed that when little!Matt gives Stick the ice cream bracelet and Stick crushes it in his hand, Matt is frozen in place when Stick leaves but I noticed the bracelet is not on the floor. I half expected Stick to crush it and drop it on the floor (like Matt's heart and hopes and dreams, tbh). So I really do think Stick took it with him, and it was the same bracelet Matt found after the big fight with Stick.
I'm going to make the argument that Stick actually cares about Matt (in his own fucked up way), and he knows he shouldn't. Why does Stick beat the shit out of Matt repeatedly for any perceived failure, but one friendship bracelet and Stick bolts and doesn't come back? Why not just beat the shit out of Matt over being emotional and wanting a father figure? Why not just force Matt to submit and do what he wants, the same way he'd been doing to that point? He heard Matt feeling guilty about killing his own father, why couldn't Stick just emotionally manipulate Matt into doing what he wanted, why not use that weakness in Matt? But no, he just leaves and I'm starting to think it was an act of self-preservation.
If Stick was trying to be a cold-hearted dick to Matt, why does he tell Matt 'I had my reasons'? And when Stick comes back to NYC, he knows exactly where to find Matt. HOW? And Stick talking to Matt after the fight? Matt's cold and shut down, but Stick is practically beaming. 'Maybe there's hope for you yet.' And when Stone asks about Matt, the way Stick replies with insulting words but a proud tone of voice and a tiny smirk? It's easiest to believe that Stick was an awful mentor and that's the end of it, that all he did was break Matt into tiny little pieces and trash whatever sense of self-worth Matt had left, but after this last viewing, I'm really starting to think Stick actually had feelings for Matt. Was he an abusive asshole? Fuck yes, but Stick and Stone are making plans for Matt's future 'when the doors open' like they know he's not going to die before then, how does that even work? And I get the sense they've been planning Matt's future for a long time, but Matt doesn't know about any of this, of course.
If anybody out there has opinions on this, I'd love to hear them, whatever they are. I thought I had the Matt and Stick relationship sorted right away, but now I'm not so sure.
I'm going to make the argument that Stick actually cares about Matt (in his own fucked up way), and he knows he shouldn't. Why does Stick beat the shit out of Matt repeatedly for any perceived failure, but one friendship bracelet and Stick bolts and doesn't come back? Why not just beat the shit out of Matt over being emotional and wanting a father figure? Why not just force Matt to submit and do what he wants, the same way he'd been doing to that point? He heard Matt feeling guilty about killing his own father, why couldn't Stick just emotionally manipulate Matt into doing what he wanted, why not use that weakness in Matt? But no, he just leaves and I'm starting to think it was an act of self-preservation.

I think the interpretation that Stick cares, but is still an asshole who is bad for Matt's emotional health and well-being is pretty common.
I agree that Stick cares and sees potential on Matt. But he finds it more important for Matt to follow a narrow path than for Matt to be happy carving out his own life. Maybe in Stick's mind, he's let Matt live the life he wanted for the past 20 years(maybe not all of it happy, but it's all been his choice and his own path) and it's time to put away the kiddie dreams and put on some big boy pants and join the war.
I think in the future we'll learn that whatever secret war Stick has been talking about is a war between good vs evil, with the safety of the world at stake which will justify his actions somewhat (wikipedia things on Chaste vs Hand stuff seems to suggest something like this? I don't have a lot of comic knowledge).
I can see other of Stick's disciples complaining that he's gotten soft or is losing touch with the real goals of his orginization for not forcing Matt into the fold when he was younger.

When Matt and Karen and Foggy are hashing things out over their laptops Matt has a braille reader of some sort connected to his computer. Is that a screenreader of some sort? A line by line thing?
