Because I'm home sick today, and lack the energy to do anything else, I'm just laying on my bed watching as many as I can on my iPad. I doubt I'll get through the whole thing today though, but maybe by tomorrow.

So I'm only one episode, but if it's an indication of how the rest of the episode will be I'mma say that season 2 is pretty meh. I can't put my finger on it, but the tone of the show has shifted and I don't like it.

Also, wtf is up with Elden?? He sounds like he's reading from cue cards every time he opens his mouth. His line delivery is so one-note and frankly terrible. :-/

Foggy and Matt

Honestly, I went into this season expecting Foggy to be SO FED UP with Matt being DD that it surprised me so hard when what we actually got was Foggy Nelson, constantly panicked 'I CAN'T LOSE YOU' mother hen to his best friend, the constantly bleeding bloody 100% sainted Matthew Murdock. Can we talk about the scene when he finds Matt's body on the roof? NGL I had my hands over my mouth when he was looking and looking and LOOKING and started to ugly cry at Foggy's nonoNONONONONOOO. And him gathering Matt up in his arms yanking the mask off? Have we not all read that fic already? But it broke me, you guys. IT BROKE ME.

LOL MY NEW SHIP. It's the only relationship in s2 that didn't disappoint me in some way tbh. Frank's very casual 'Good morning, sunshine' when Matt's all frantically struggling in the chains, unf. And Frank being very clear that Matt was his to do with whatever he wanted. 'The only way you get out of here is if I want you to.' OK FRANK. OK.

Matt's emotional control (or lack thereof)

We already knew that Matt has tenuous control over his emotions at best, but there was so many moments this season where he was really clearly upset/angry/frightened and I kind of love it. When he was panicked after being late for court, when he got weirdly emotional when he was supposed to be questioning Frank.... Especially when he went to see Fisk and he was so clearly freaked out to begin with, then at the end when he was so shaken up he almost fell? So great.

It does interest me though that he wears his emotions so openly. You'd think someone like Matt would try and hide them.

Yes! I was so glad to see this actually. They did a much better job of highlighting how emotional he is this season than last. It's a callback to the source comics where so often Matt is a hot emotional mess who doesn't make tactical, well-considered decisions, he tends to jump into awful situations when he's all emotional, kinda wings it and hopes for the best. It's kind of his thing. There's a great line where he says, 'Foggy always tells me hope isn't a plan...' or something to that affect. :D

It seems like he needs to keep a lid on it better while in the courtroom, though, right? However that scene with Fisk where Fisk has such a tight hold on him Matt's basically just gasping and pawing/pushing at Fisk and he almost looks like he's about to have a panic attack, he's breathing so hard. REALLY good character stuff for all the characters throughout the season.

Respect to anyone that can watch an entire 13 ep series in a day. I managed 8 between brief bouts of real life, and I don't feel like I could have done any more (well, maybe one...)

Can't wait to finish it tomorrow though. Anyone all the way thru yet?

I'm done. This was unsatisfying to the extreme. Especially the ending. Really, Matt? It's like someone got him a Handbook of Worst Life Choices and he made all of them.

I'm happy for Karen recognising that it's a toxic environment and getting the fuck out. She and Foggy deserve so much better.

But at the same time I'm sad. They're done. So, so done. And it breaks my heart. (Not Matt/Karen, that I cannot stand.)

See, that's an interesting take. I thought it was a toxic environment but not only from Matt's side, it felt toxic all the way around once Matt and Karen wanted to take the Punisher trial. They all wanted different things from that trial and it fractured them in horrible ways, it set them at serious odds with each other and they felt wrong together. To me it felt like they all deserved better, not just Karen and Foggy. While Matt essentially went back to listening to Stick again and cutting his ties to Karen and Foggy on purpose, I can see why he ended up back in that place where he felt like he needed to. I was super crushed every time Foggy made nasty comments about Matt's mental state in the harshest way possible, that Matt needed a psych eval or said, in court, that Matt was just as crazy as Frank Castle, and quite obviously meant it, and said Matt needed to put the devilsuit back in the wacko box it came from. Which, wow, just wow.

Foggy just felt stuck in the gear between super crazy protective of Matt and super ultra disappointed with Matt, it's like he was angry all the time below the surface. It started in their first scene together and it just got progressively worse. Idk I need to think on it a little more, but I felt like there was so much unresolved at the end, even the whole Iron Man 'I'm Daredevil' line and Karen's face, ugh. I NEEDED 5 MORE MINUTES YOU GUYS.

Also, look, I don't hate Matt/Karen but I'm one of the ones who definitely dnw it at all this season. Frankly I'm relieved it didn't go anywhere, but I don't know how I feel that Matt ended up with Elektra and Stick as his Chosen Two instead of Karen and Foggy. The relationship that felt like it suffered the most was Matt/Foggy but otoh Foggy's finally getting out of Matt's shadow and gets the chance to go be his own guy and get all the acclaim and credit for cases and make the money he wanted and partner for another big time firm that we're all familiar with. I'd be happy for Foggy if I wasn't so positively sure he's going to hate every minute of it and be miserable and pining for Nelson & Murdock, and Matt specifically. That hurt my heart. This season is going to spawn all the Fix It fics.

They had the most amazing scenes.

I was mildly surprised that the subject of Wesley never explicitly came up between them. I mean ok, obviously that's not something you want to confess to a self-righteous murderer named the Punisher, and they did make it non-verbally clear that it was still on Karen's mind, but I was sort of expecting it in some of their conversations.

I'm all for character development and relationships but damn. I don't want to see Daredevil In Love, staring Karen as Gwyneth Paltrow. I want to see Daredevil and Blunt Force Trauma.

She strikes me as a rich jack ass but unlike Tony Stark who has personality, she kind of just falls flat. It's like I'm manipulative, rich and a jackass but I'm not charming. The End.

Fuck me sideways, I think I might have played back the part where Matt nearly collapsed after standing from where Fisk threw him onto the chair about 50 times. That whole scene was amazing, I would like 500 more.

(I'd almost say it was for show - playing up the defenceless blind lawyer thing - except he seemed genuinely embarrassed that his knees collapsed out from under him where Fisk could see it happen).

That whole scene scared the crap out of me so bad, it was so unexpected, and I was terrified that Fisk was going to strangle Matt right there on the desk like he did with Ben Urich.

But Matt choking and gasping and ineffectually trying to push Fisk away and then almost collapsing when he finally gets to walk away, holy mother of god. Did Matt actually get constantly dommed by everyone this season?

Matt's Senses

Anyone not digging this season's representation of Matt focusing or noticing things? Like yeah I get it can't be fully explained but like when it focused on Electra the first time he noticed her. I can see, presenting me the visual is kind of like whispering words and then presenting them to me in 72 font.

I watched the show and listened on my roku headphones and something I noticed this season is they really pushed the audible cues. So many small hidden things in the audio. I highly suggest folks listen on headphones to a couple of eps at least because it was definitely part of the story.

So Charlie Cox looks like he gained a tiny bit more muscle this season, but he also somehow magically looks smaller in his suits and even looks shorter than Elden suddenly? Like how does that even work? Am I the only one noticing that, unless Elden just looks bigger? I can't figure it out. I also noticed Matt's eyes looks spectacularly GREEN this season as opposed to the brown/hazel of last season. That was a startling difference right there, I thought he was wearing colored contacts or something.

THANK GOD I'm not the only one! I think they did that on purpose -- Deborah is taller than CC and Elden is 1 inch shorter. Last season they framed it so Karen is shorter than him and Foggy the same height, but this season he always stands further back when with Foggy, and opposite with Karen. They're making him look small, may be to highlight his vulnerability?

So I'm looking out for Daredevil shots, if they make Daredevil look taller than people as a point of contrast between the man and the mask or something.

STICK

Opinions on Stick in this season? Glad he showed up? Hated him being part of Matt's life again? Does the relationship revert back to Stick training Matt for his war?

This season proved that Stick had emotions for Matt, more emotions than Stick wanted to have, and I'm happy that Matt had some confirmation that somebody cared about him during his orphan days. And now Matt finally has that father figure in his life that he's wanted so badly. BUT IT'S STICK UGH NOOO MATT WHY? How fundamentally broken and emotionally vulnerable are you to be *happy* to have your childhood abusive father figure back in your life again? Ok, so I was really happy to hear Stick trip over telling Matt that he was proud of him. Matt's reaction, omfg kill me I cried because I knew it was something that Matt wanted to hear from somebody, ANYBODY. But gdi Matthew, childhood abuser back in your life again. UGH.

who loved it? who hated it? who felt indifferent?

personally, i feel like it was.... the opposite of organic. it all seemed very forced and fairly sudden, sort of like "wait, where is this coming from????" i knew they were gearing towards it esp with that last scene in season one but it still managed to feel way off??? (also i honestly felt more potential between karen and foggy in their last scene that i did with her and matt the whole way through) (ps: how did she not recognise it was him in the warehouse........)

i'm not a fan of romance stuff in general (to be real i am all about angst) so it could just be my bias and i might have not picked it up right so i was curious to see what everyone else was feeling!!

Agreed. I like them in theory, but in practice they seem to lack chemistry? idk. It seems like either they're being shown as "being in love" (via kissing, etc), or they're having an argument, or they're talking about the Problem Of The Week. They're never just... connecting, as people.

Hell, Karen and Frank had more chemistry, imo.

Anybody else as surprised as I am by how Claire was acting towards Matt? I thought they had parted on better terms than the way she's acting would imply.

i wasn't really surprised by it. it seemed in-character and appropriate to the situation. claire's a straight-talker, she knows matt in an intimate way and she is absolutely not afraid to verbally kick his (or anyone's) ass when he's being an idiot.

i think it has less to do with how they parted and more to do with why they parted. she's been through the ringer thanks to matt's vigilante hobby and since they split she's gotten caught up with jessica and luke while still dealing with presumably daily fallout from daredevil (and now the punisher).

i think claire, who didn't want to be, but is now inextricably involved in the vigilante/villain suff is trying to protect herself and by being lukewarm and a little hostile with matt she's trying to make it clear that she's out. claire (like foggy) has a problem with the daredevil side and not the matt side but claire (unlike foggy) knows that they're the same person which is why she's so ready to remove matt from her life.
