Did they actually go there with the fanfic trope where Matt loses his hearing? Because it sure looks like it's happened twice now. That's inconvenient while fighting!

Poor Matt! I keep waiting for it to happen again. Do u think it will?

Yes he was so scared, omg! And for it to happen when he's fighting Frank, the way Frank saw the weakness and started circling him, just about to pounce, *I* was scared for Matt.

I was waiting for them to address, like, surely the massive amounts of brain damage he must've had for a knock to the head to make him lose his hearing...

Unless it was an oversensitive senses thing? Or being around too many guns lately?

Anyway, yeah. I was expecting more medical-related panic, but then, he's the guy who shook off a fish hook to the stomach, so.

Did seem like for a few seconds before everything was out of whack, everything went waaay too loud first. Maybe he lost control for a minute and his mind kind of shut the whole thing down as a protective measure.

I read someone said once their head canon was that that was what had happened to Matt's sight, all his senses were increased so much that he just couldn't cope with the visual input and shut it down permanently to protect him. Personally thats not how I interpreted it (could have been tho...) but it's a fairly awesome idea, and that would support it.

YES, this. Near the end of the season it's clear that he's massively dampening the input constantly, and when it looks like he's having an anxiety attack he can't control the input, it overwhelms him and makes his anxiety even worse, a vicious cycle until he calm down. So maybe when he's very emotional it just goes haywire? Which I think I've read all those fics tbh lol. This totally supports those.

I guess you don't read the comics? It's not a fanfic trope, it happens in the comics a lot for about as long as DD has existed. In the comics Frank Castle actually keeps sonic grenades (and tranqs) as part of his arsenal specifically for DD, so he can render Matt helpless w/o killing him.

Yeah but that's not this. That's not the same thing as a bullet to the head making it happen with no warning while he's alone in his apartment.

I do read the comics, but I don't read Punisher. Never liked him that much.

They referenced a LOT of Punisher comics this season so maybe that's where it's coming from. Matt and Frank make a lot of cameos in each others titles so I guess it serves to use their shared history and relationship when writing the MCU take on them. Imo they did an ace job.
