Flatmeme

(Anonymous) 2016-04-16 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
So, who here doesn't know what flatmeme is? Or who thinks they've sorta kinda maybe guessed at what it is, but aren't sure?

If you're not sure, here's how to go into flatmeme:

- Look at the very bottom of this page. It should say something like -

(1845 comments) (Post a new comment)

(Flat) | (Top-Level Comments Only)

- Click on the link that says 'Flat'.

- That's flatmeme. No threads, just comments posted in chronological order, regardless of what discussion they're a part of.

The main benefit of flatmeme is you don't have to remember to check back on certain threads for updates because you'll see the updates to EVERY thread when they're made. You will always be up to date on what's happening on the meme.

The flip/downside is that because you will see updates to ALL the threads in a given post, you will also see every update to conversations that you're not interested in.

fyi, this is why people get nudged about changing subject lines and why some would prefer that RPs or meta round robins not happen on the prompt posts - in flatmeme, they're impossible to ignore and once they get going, they tend to drown out all the other posts.

If you've got questions, feel free to ask. I just figured some clarification on what people mean by 'flatmeme' would be useful.

...as a flatmemer, I'm genuinely confused as to why people think they're impossible to ignore or drown out other posts. Yeah, keep the subject lines--but that's what Dreamwidth savior is for. And scrolling down.

Rewatching season 2, episode 1, and the opening with Matt and Foggy walking down the street. The scene when someone says "hey Foggy, looking good" and he's all smiles and the next moment he and a woman bump into each other and she calls him an asshole... ok, what's the purpose of that scene?

(frozen comment) Re: Okay, what is that?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-17 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe just to illustrate that everyone in the community knows Nelson and Murdock. Or that Foggy specifically is friendly without everyone in the neighborhood.

More Defenders news. Eka Darville (Malcolm) to appear

(Anonymous) 2016-04-17 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
A member of SpoilerTV is currently attending the Supanova Pop Culture Expo in Melbourne, Australia. Eka Darville was present at his panel shared with Arrow and The Shannara Chronicles, Manu Bennett where Tyler took the opportunity to ask Eka about Marvel and Netflix's latest series, The Defenders.

Tyler: Malcolm and Jessica were quite close by the end of Jessica Jones. So I was wondering if you know yet whether or not you'll appear in 'The Defenders'?

Eka: Yes. I will be in it. I'm not sure how much yet but I will be in it.

Awesome! The ending of Jessica Jones season 1 did seem to imply that Malcolm was going to be helping with Alias Investigations. I really liked him.

character x reader

(Anonymous) 2016-04-18 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
What is this influx of fic pairing characters with the reader? I really don't like to put down anyone's writing, but it's pretty weird. Also does anyone know what Y/N is supposed to mean? They are all peppered with it, probably where I would write "you" or something if I were writing that kind of thing. It's pretty jarring. Not that it's important, I'm probably not going to read any more of it, I've just been seeing it all over AO3 and I thought I'd check what it was about, and now I'm even more baffled.

Re: character x reader

(Anonymous) 2016-04-18 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I've taken it to be this generation's version of the self-insert fic. (which sometimes used to be masked as a Mary Sue fic)

I may be wrong about this, but I've also assumed that the writers are fairly young.

looking for an interview

(Anonymous) 2016-04-20 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
I hope someone here can help but I'm looking for an interview with Jon Bernthal about Frank Castle and it was a print interview and released maybe around 6 weeks before the second season aired. I'm specifically looking for the article that mentioned the interviewer having watched some preview scenes of s2 and Frank was using homophobic, possibly gendered language: in the scene where Frank's about the shoot the guy on the boat and DD shows up, the interviewer remarks about Frank calling the guy a 'cocksucker' or 'cocksucking bitch', something like that, in the scene when he's holding the gun in the guy's mouth. I remember this because the interviewer sounded like he was surprised or upset at the language.

Thing is, those lines are not what was released in the season, so I'm wondering if the show received some backlash after that article was published and very quickly ADR'd some fixes? I noticed there's an ADR fix on the scene when Frank has DD chained to the rooftop and he puts the gun to Matt's head and says, 'Feel it?' but the sound is clearly a hotfix. It does make me wonder what the line was originally and also, if Frank was written to use that language normally, how many things had to be changed before the release of the season? (fyi this is purely a technical question as I love Frank, I'm just curious about the changes)

Anybody know the article I mean? The interviewer said something about how Frank and Matt were not on the best of terms after quoting 'Get out of here, Red!' moment from the teaser they watched. Sound familiar to anyone? Also, if anyone is familiar with the ADR process and can pick out other areas where the lines where obviously changed, please let me know!

It's an issue of EMPIRE Magazine but couldn't find scans of it only what other sites reported.

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/captain_america/captain_america_civil_war/daredevil-new-look-at-jon-bernthal-as-a131307

"Lost in character, Bernthal calls the man a “cocksucker.”

I think that part was improvised and they let it but it was cut at the end.

Does anyone like figures and data about fandom?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-21 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I was just poking around on AO3 today and decided to mess with some searches and pull some numbers and stats about our fandom, mostly because I was looking at the list of top tags for relationships and additional tags and it got me thinking.

Relationships freaked me out. Because in comparison to here, Frank/Karen is #3 right now, and Matt/Reader is #5. So I started wondering about het shipping and gen fics in our fandom and how they stack up to other fandoms, because I always feel like we have more het fic and gen people around.

So... interesting figures for everyone:

  • Approximately 24% of fics on AO3 feature a het pairing and no tagged slash pairing (I did it this way to eliminate het pairings that were just background or minor to a slash ship, like Matt/Karen or Matt/Elektra showing up in Matt/Foggy fics). I checked this against the figures for a similar search in the larger MCU fandom, and they actually have a higher percentage overall of 27% (which surprised me).

  • Approximately 23% of fics on AO3 feature only the gen tag with no other relationship categories indicated. This is actually quite a bit higher than the MCU, where that figure was around 15%.

So overall we actually do have a pretty healthy community of het shippers and people who aren't into ships at all. :)

I ran some other numbers just for fun.

  • 17% of fics on AO3 in our fandom are tagged for some kind of AU.

  • 25% of fics on AO3 feature Matt/Foggy as a pairing. When you add in fics tagged as having only their friendship, that figure goes up to 38%! Just to illustrate how dominant that makes the ship within the fandom, Stucky only accounts for 13% of MCU fic, and Stony 9%. For further comparison going the other way though, 50% of Sherlock fic on AO3 is tagged for JohnLock, 64% when you include their friendship. So we ship our main ship with less intensity than that.

  • 19% of Daredevil fics on AO3 aren't tagged for Matt at all.

  • Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence is one of the top AO3 tags for Daredevil, accounting for 5% of fic. This is only slightly higher than the overall MCU where the rate is 3%.

  • Another top tag unusual to Daredevil specifically? Unsurprisingly, it's Canon-Typical Violence.

I kinda fell down a weird rabbit hole tonight and just wanted to share and see what everyone else thought. These numbers are by no means scientific, and I am not a mathematician or statistician by trade, so I may have gotten them wrong or used weird methodology. But I thought people would be interested. :)

New Post

(Anonymous) 2016-04-21 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, is the current post closing at 4k or 5k?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-21 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Does anyone else feel weird/bothered when people ask for really specific/detailed longfic things? Like...I get that kink meme doesn't have to mean 24/7 kinky PWPs, but it feels entitled to me. And I've even written a longfic for a prompt here! But the prompt in question could feasibly have been filled in a shorter way.

I'm not trying to get those prompts banned or anything, people can suggest what they want, but...I don't know. Just curious if anyone else feels like that.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-22 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Specific stuff doesn't bother me, in fact it's nice to know exactly what a prompter is after, but I will admit requests for detailed longfic (or even just specifically saying they want a long fic) get side-eyed. I always feel like with the kinkmeme you gotta take what you get- if that's longfic then awesome but oneshots can be just as good. Specifically saying you must write ALL of this in detail to fill this properly' is a little off-putting to me.

That said, I'm with you that people can request what they want, yeah I'll side-eye a little but eh.

But yeah, I feel you anon.

Anatomy of a Good Prompt

(Anonymous) 2016-04-22 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
What are the elements of a good prompt, meme? Is there a structure that you think works best for sparking inspiration? What level of detail is too much? Which would you say are good prompts? (whether or not it got an actual fill)

Re: Anatomy of a Good Prompt

(Anonymous) 2016-04-22 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
A good prompt gives enough detail to spark an idea and not too much to drown it in details. What that means varies for the prompt. One line might work for a simple prompt like Matt can't swim : Someone teaches him how to; but for prompts that either include a backstory to explain the prompt or go into Explicit areas, sometimes more detail is best.

It's a balance really but as a general rule if a prompt plots out every twist the fic should take, it's too detailed. Maybe okay if they're phrased as bonuses but it's still getting too detailed.

Elektra audition tapes

(Anonymous) 2016-04-24 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, so I was rereading the first discussion post out of nostalgia and I came across this link for an apparently leaked audition tape for Elektra, with the transcript included.

http://nerdreactor.com/2015/05/27/daredevil-season-2-audition-tapes-elektra/

Aaand guys, from that bit about the wing-tips, it looks like it was legit! :0

I can't figure out what the first transcribed scene is, though. It definitely wasn't in the show, right?

Re: Elektra audition tapes

(Anonymous) 2016-04-24 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I remember EY saying that during her auditions they didn't tell her who the part was for at first - it wasn't until the very last audition with Charlie that she figured it out it was Elektra/Daredevil.

Maybe the extra scene was a 'fake' one to measure how the actress would perform certain situations (like threatening a guy and then killing him) rather than a scene they were really planning on using.

How did your headcanons get jossed?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-25 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
So S2 has been out for a while already, but I want to know, what were your fancanons or headcanons or character/plot interpretations that totally got thrown out the window this season?

I think the biggest one was probably the reality of how (not) close Foggy and Matt's friendship really was. I was with that section of fandom who thought they were going to be inseparable soulmates for life, but as it turns out, ... ;____;

I was expecting way more antagonism between Matt and Frank as well. I know they're mostly cool with each other in the comics, but I just couldn't imagine Matt coming to accept the Punisher killing people in Hell's Kitchen under any circumstances, much less becoming allies with him. But I think the season sold it pretty well in the end.

There's also Matt's relationship with Elektra. From some of the trailers and interviews, and from when she was first introduced, I thought it was going to be way more twisted and abusive than it ended up being (because I'm trash and I love seeing Matt get hurt, lmao) - though that's not to say that it wasn't fairly messed up in the show anyway, with Roscoe Sweeney and all that. The way it went in canon was still brilliant imo, but there was just something about Matt's initial reactions to Elektra that just pushed all my buttons.

Re: How did your headcanons get jossed?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-25 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
I still have hope for Matt and Foggy LOL. Maybe I am super in denial but I'm sure that after the Defenders, Daredevil will have to force himself back into Foggy's life because of Fisk's threat. (Daredevil season 3 Marvel, pls. Pls Marvel. My soul needs it.) I think that it will take Matt really risking his life and saving Foggy (and maybe his family) in a way that only Matt could do as Daredevil for Foggy to start accepting his identity, but I think it's a possibility.

As far as them being inseparable soulmates for life- I guess the show does really beat us over the head with the fact that their lives are inevitably going in different directions, and they will from now on. (Foggy will never be a vigilante, Matt will always be Daredevil.) But...I AM STILL HOLDING OUT HOPE, OKAY.

So maybe my headcanon will be jossed as time goes on. (Pls, Marvel, don't do this to me. Pls.)

I don't know much about Punisher except that he kills bad guys and is crazy, so like you I definitely thought that there was going to be more animosity between DD and Punisher. I remember really liking the early 2000s Punisher, but I didn't think I would like Frank all that much this season as a character, to be honest.

The question of Season 3

(Anonymous) 2016-04-25 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen more and more comments/articles about Season 3 of Daredevil being in up in the air, and I'm NOT digging it.

I know they filmed the scene between Matt and Karen post-reveal so Season 3 is not a "never" thing but I really doubt that given the character load necessary for a concept like Defenders would mean for them taking the time to sort out what happened between Matt and Foggy. I know that's what fan fic is for, fixing things + bonus getting them to kiss, but I guess I'm just not ready to cope with the fact that we're never getting another Nelson v. Murdock where the bulk of the episode is dedicated to sorting out what happened between them.

Is anyone else feeling iffy about things now? Or do you think the rumors are people just jumping to the wrong conclusions?

Re: The question of Season 3

(Anonymous) 2016-04-25 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
In my heart, I want a season 3. But thinking about it more, I would really only want one if it focused on Matt and Foggy dealing with Fisk. I feel like season 2 totally sequel baited us with Fisk threatening Foggy by name, not to mention that he was using his time in prison to build connections and resources. Frank also said that he was going to straight up kill Fisk, so I would love to see Matt and Frank have to team up against Fisk.

If season 3 were 13 one hour episodes of Matt dealing with Stick and the Chaste and fighting ninjas...I don't think I could take it. The Chaste does not seem likeable or interesting to me at all so far, and to be honest, the Hand doesn't seem that interesting either. Writers on here have been able to take storylines from the comics and make it really fun and interesting, but I just don't think that the show has done it all that well so far. I'm just...not buying it, I guess. Hopefully that will change with Iron First and maybe the Defenders, but I would really dislike a show where Matt was just dealing with the Hand.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-25 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
Alright, I think some of the shine is coming off the first rush of the second season that people elsewhere are starting to really question Frank Castle's choices and motives, specifically his self-control. Let me preface this by saying I honestly love Frank Castle but it's been a month, you guys, and I'm STILL ASKING QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS GD SEASON WTF? Please offer any opinions so I can stop thinking about this.

Frank said if he wanted you dead, you'd be dead. He tells Karen she was never in any danger, and then kinda uses her as bait at the diner which is actually my definition of putting someone in danger, and he also drives a truck into her car later and doesn't bother to help her or drag her to safety afterward. He supposedly doesn't kill good people, but he does use a shotgun with serious scattershot in a hospital where innocent people are running and screaming from him. Then when he's shooting at Karen and Grotto as they're driving away, he doesn't manage to shoot either of them (am I reading this wrong or does he suck at the whole one shot-one kill thing? there was no military precision on the Irish hit either), but how does he know Karen won't swerve or crash the car and kill them both, or swerve into bystanders? Like, would he not consider himself responsible for that?

And his first fight with Daredevil. He does shoot that shotgun at Matt, right? Wasn't he trying to kill him then? He tries to shoot Matt more than once, point blank, and Matt is fast enough to avoid it, so when Frank shot Matt in the head, was he still trying to kill Matt, or nah? Melvin says that bullet a tiny bit in either direction and Matt would have been dead, so there's no way Frank would have known what the perfect placement would have been. Or would he? I know he's supposed to be a tactical genius but does somebody want to convince me he knew what the Daredevil helmet was made of before he shot Matt at close range? It's not like he checked on Matt afterward either (like Karen), he just walked away from them both and left them laying in his wake of destruction.

He kidnaps Matt and holds him hostage, and Matt asks an important question: You've killed everyone else, why am I still alive? YES, FRANK, WHY? (also stfu, Matthew, you're a prisoner, do not poke the bear holding you prisoner) And they're chatty and argumentative but then there's that really weird point where Matt calls Frank insane and Frank looks like he's so butthurt about it, that he knocks DD out cold. Like, why so angry, Frank? Why? Frank threatens that old Marine (okay, I really didn't think he would have killed the old guy but I'm SO in the middle on this and tbqfh Frank's dead eyes were terrifying, I could believe either way) and then tries to force Matt to kill him/Grotto, but to what end? Because when Matt refuses to kill Grotto, Frank sets Matt up to be killed by bikers (the only way you get out of here is to grow wings). Was he planning on making it look like Daredevil killed Grotto and then was killed by bikers in return? He won't kill Daredevil but he'll allow him to be killed by others (which of course changes by the end of the series).

I'm SO confused by Frank's motivations because they seem to flip around so often, and are so inconsistent, particularly towards Daredevil, that I honestly could only see him as an unreliable narrator until the moment Matt said 'maybe this one time we do things your way' and Frank goes from crazy-eyes MURDER MURDER MURDER to looking like someone handed him a tiny puppy to strangle. I fully believed his response to that, but until that point I couldn't decide whether Frank was honestly kill-em-all insane, honestly forgetting what he'd said earlier, was he believing himself 100% w/no doubts or regrets, or was he actually changing his mind about things through the series? Or is it the writing for Frank that seems to be very dodgy, at least on some points? Like seriously, what the hell happened there?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-25 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
When Frank shots Matt at the roof you could see how he aimed to the helmet. I think he knew it wouldn't kill him so he took the shot.

I think Frank was taunting Matt when he was in that roof with Grotto, Matt was analizing him amd Franks didn't like that, Matt didn't know his story so Frank acted on impulse and gave Matt the performance he was expecting which was a crazy killing machine and he put that gun in Matt's hands and told him to shot him or else Frank was gonna kill Grotto and it the end he did. He kileld Grotto, he killed the bad guy and if a buch of guys came after him after well bad luck, he will find a way to get out.

I think Frank doesnt care if he has to hurt someone for the greater good. Yeah, he used Karen in that dinner, she was almost killed when she went to talk to that army guy but she was safe in teh end. Occupational hazard Frank will say.

Also i think that's how they wanted to portray Frank. Foggy said over and over again that Frank was crazy and suffering PTSD which Frank denied and was offended by it but in other people's eyes. Frank was exactly that.

What happened to moving on?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-25 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously there have been a lot of shitty people lately. Like if they don't like a prompt move on or comment on the generality of the issue that is found problematic here.

Re: What happened to moving on?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-25 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Some prompts are being deliberately provocative, too, which I think is a bigger issue.

The word "crazy" is offensive?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-25 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't used it, but I've seen a couple threads frozen for the whole "don't put your dick in crazy" prompt and all its variations.

Now, I'd object to that particular phrasing because it degrades whoever the prompt is about to just an object someone is putting their dick in. I think it's dehumanizing.

However, I've seen some talk about the word "crazy" itself being offensive to people dealing with mental illness. I'm wondering if that's true, and why.

I mean... "crazy" is not a medical term. It's not a diagnosis at all. Today, in modern culture, many people use the word crazy simply to signify the intensity of something.

"It's crazy hot today."

"My feet are aching like crazy."

Or, it's used like this:

"What? Are you crazy? You can't go out like that!"

Now, I realize that last example is more pointing towards a comment on the person's judgement rather than being used as an adverb to describe intensity, still...

Do people feel like in that last example what the person is really saying is "Are you mentally ill?" or "Are you bipolar?" or something? Because to me, that would have a totally different meaning than "Are you crazy?"

To me, "crazy" is not a description of a mental illness. If anything, it describes someone who is temporarily not in a right state of mind. If I see a fic where a person is described as "going crazy in the store, buying all the milk they have" I don't assume the author is trying to describe a mental illness where the person must obsessively buy milk. I assume that the person is acting silly, making poor choices for whatever (probably comical) reason.

And if someone does choose to reply and explain why the word crazy is offensive, I'd also be interested to know how many other words/phrases would also fit in the same category. Like:

"He was going nuts"

"He was going bonkers"

"He was out of his mind"

"It was insanely hot"

"He was beside himself"

"He was freaking out"

"He was losing his mind"

Are any of those offensive as well?

Re: The word "crazy" is offensive?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-25 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I have not seen anyone here attack "crazy" specifically except in cases of "fuck the crazy" or "stick your dick in crazy" and so I'm inclined to believe that people took issue with those specific contexts for its usage, which are wrapped up in objectification and misogyny and ideas about how women specifically behave or don't in relationships.

The only time I saw anyone turn it into the idea the word itself was a slur was someone deliberately insulting a person who took issue woth the context and trying to oversimplify their argument to make them look like an idiot.

You're right that the word crazy has always had many associations beyond mental illness. Like bonkers or nuts or insane. I don't see the problem wit it if it's used that way.

Rant: TWs are getting out of control

(Anonymous) 2016-04-26 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
I'm SUPER sick of having to make trigger warnings for everything under the sun, and then getting messaged and chewed out if I leave something off. I mean, how the hell am I supposed to know that one particular little thing is going to set you off?

IF YOUR MENTAL HEALTH IS THAT DELICATE, TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER. I mean, really. Take care of yourself!

If you can't skim over something uncomfortable without breaking down, YOU SHOULDN'T BE READING FANFIC ON THE INTERNET.

It's your job to take care of your own mental health. It's not the rest of the world's job to look after you and walk around on egg shells for fear of accidentally triggering you.

What things do you disagree with people about on whether or not they should be labelled as triggering? Or do you just dislike the whole concept on principle?

When did you start hating female characters?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
(I promise this post is not as inflammatory as the title suggests, lol. Bear with me).

I was just thinking the other day about how, when I was younger, all my favourite characters (whether it be from TV, movie, or book) were female. All my favourite toys were female.

Now, this may be because I'm a cis girl and identified pretty strongly with feminine things (and later grew up to be attracted to women). Basically, if it had pretty hair and a pretty dress, I loved it.

Until I started reading slash fic.

The internet became a Thing when I was 10, and I discovered fanfic when I was about 12-13. And then I discovered "yaoi." And I don't know if it was just an anime fandom thing, or if this was typical of ALL fandoms at the time, but there was a pretty strong culture of hating any and all female characters that interfered with ones otp. Which was then carried forward 100x over when it came to female OCs (Mary Sues). Pretty soon all of my favourite characters were men.

Fast forward over a decade later, and I'm in my 30s kind of re-learning how to like and identify with female characters.

This was really ramble-y and not well thought out, sorry. I was just wondering if anyone else might have the same experience.

Re: When did you start hating female characters?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Cis female here too, early 20's (for context).

I... totally get what you're saying here. I never actually stopped to think about it but yes, as a kid I was very much all about female characters. My younger brother and I always used to play games where we acted out shows or movies and I was always the girl because girls were way cooler. We had many shared Pokemon games and we always played as the girl because I wanted that and he was nice enough/didn't care enough to not argue. It's not that I actively sort out female characters, just that I was always looking for the girl to identify with and be my favourite in whatever I watched/read. Everything was female back then - even my dog, despite the fact he was male...

But yeah, by the time I started getting into the internet and fanfiction at about the same time as you (12-13) I definitely had a major preference for male characters, though it took a few more years before I got into Slash fic (romance just wasn't my thing until I did). I got scared off OCs within a year or so - they were always Mary Sues if female and totally evil and stupid and a sign of a bad writer; I didn't want to be a bad writer - to the point where I'm only now starting to write OCs that aren't villains/male. A part of me wants to argue that I was just going to the characters with more interesting story lines and characterisation but I was in the NCIS fandom for a while at that point - and Ziva in that show is a Mossad agent with family demons and such that I'd be all over if she was male but I preferred to write about her male coworker McGee...

I'm not sure why the swap but maybe a huge part of it was that these were the characters people were writing about so I followed suit? Even now, aware that I have a tendency to write male characters and ignore female ones, I find that 90% of my Daredevil works are from the POV of Matt or Foggy and the others split between minor/crossover characters' POV and the rare Karen POV (and none of them about her if I think about it, they could mostly be seen as me just using her as an outside POV on Matt...)

Also ramble-y but tl;dr; I get what you're saying and it's not just your experience.

Elektra or Matt

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Who did Stick meet/train first, Elektra or Matt? Was it said and I missed it?

Re: Elektra or Matt

(Anonymous) 2016-04-28 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I headcanon that he trained Elektra first. Because that squeezes all the angst from Ellie's comment that Stick was going to train someone new and would forget about her, and Stick's subsequent promise that he'd NEVER. And that ties in nicely with Stick's obvious issues with bb!Matt's attachment to him. Matt reminded Stick of his surrogate daughter and Stick felt he couldn't get attached in return, not AGAIN (perhaps he felt like he was replacing his Ellie?), so he thought it better to cut his losses and dump Matt.

But that's only a headcanon, nothing in the shows tells us about the order of events. I'm just attached to the idea that Matt reminded Stick of Ellie and that Matt was the second choice. That he was second-best and a substitute, and that most of Stick's reactions stemmed from the fact that he was hurt and missed his murder daughter. (I'm so easy for the Stick&Elektra relationship. Papa Bear and Murder Daughter.)

The Punisher - Daredevil spin-off ordered to series by Netflix

(Anonymous) 2016-04-29 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
It’s official: The Punisher is getting his own TV series.

EW has learned that Marvel has ordered a spin-off starring the viglante character introduced in Daredevil season 2.

Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as vengeful military veteran Frank Castle, who brings his own lethal form of justice to Hell’s Kitchen.

Writer and executive producer Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal, Casualty) will serve as showrunner.

I am really excited. As I said on Reddit I'll post here:

I think Finn Cooley or Jigsaw (maybe an introduction in one episode before he became this mad man, and Finn could be the starter) first. We know microchip will possibly be in it, and if soap gets added then that be funny.

Maybe just maybe they can introduce us to how punisher is "born" like he was in Vietnam. It could be for Afghanistan. Maybe in a flashback episode.
