Does anyone like figures and data about fandom?
(Anonymous) 2016-04-21 12:37 am (UTC)(link)Relationships freaked me out. Because in comparison to here, Frank/Karen is #3 right now, and Matt/Reader is #5. So I started wondering about het shipping and gen fics in our fandom and how they stack up to other fandoms, because I always feel like we have more het fic and gen people around.
So... interesting figures for everyone:
So overall we actually do have a pretty healthy community of het shippers and people who aren't into ships at all. :)
I ran some other numbers just for fun.
I kinda fell down a weird rabbit hole tonight and just wanted to share and see what everyone else thought. These numbers are by no means scientific, and I am not a mathematician or statistician by trade, so I may have gotten them wrong or used weird methodology. But I thought people would be interested. :)

(Anonymous) 2016-04-21 01:51 am (UTC)(link)Another thing that might be interesting to compare across fandom is when things get posted. Like, I'm assuming that most fandoms have the highest number of new fics whenever there's a new season or movie out. (Impressively, Almost Human had John/Dorian fics before the show even aired!) And there's probably a lot posted in the American summer months since a lot of college students are off for the summer.
There are a lot of fun ways to play with writing data (if you're into that kind of thing, hahaha). There's an increasing interest in academic research about fandom and remixing, but my experience with it so far has been studying specific groups of people rather than examining what they write as a whole.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-21 02:36 am (UTC)(link)Canon-typical violence, hahah. That is a great tag for this fandom.
Re: Does anyone like figures and data about fandom?
(Anonymous) 2016-04-21 02:46 am (UTC)(link)I wish there was some way to see how this compares to the numbers pre-S2, too. I'm not surprised Frank/Karen is at #2-#3 (well, technically #3 as the OP says, but both the top two tags are Matt &-or-/ Foggy) but I'm interested to know what the #3 tag was before that. I don't remember any other pairings even getting close to the numbers Matt/Foggy have - and even right now, looking at AO3, Matt/Foggy is still well in the lead - but maybe it was Claire/Matt? Matt/Reader?
Re: Does anyone like figures and data about fandom?
(Anonymous) 2016-04-21 07:03 am (UTC)(link)MCU tagging can be kind of weird on AO3 I checked out Captain America (Movies) and 45% are tagged Stucky.
As for Daredevil itself, I grabbed a screenshot of the relationship numbers as they appeared in the AO3 sidebar Saturday afternoon PST a day after season 2 dropped (iirc a few Frank/Karen fics were out but only the hardcore bingers were done).
Matt/Foggy: 981
Matt&Foggy: 523
Matt/Claire: 177
Matt/Reader: 149
Matt&Foggy&Karen: 98
Matt/Karen: 97
Matt/Vladimir: 91
Foggy/Karen: 87
Matt/Foggy/Karen: 67
Matt&Karen: 66

Going by the numbers now, there have been increases of:
Matt/Foggy: 75
Matt&Foggy: 43
Matt/Claire: 8
Matt/Reader: 21
Matt&Foggy&Karen: 5
Matt/Karen: 45
Matt/Vladimir: 1
Foggy/Karen: (okay AO3's sidebar only reads 79 but actually filtering by the tag shows 94 so) 7
Matt/Foggy/Karen: 17 (bumped off, had to check tag)
Matt&Karen: 25 (bumped off, went to tag to check, but if I actually count, only 10 fics have been updated between now and 3/18)
Other pairings, just by counting fics dated post-3/18:
275 Karen/Frank
~50 each Matt/Elektra and Matt/Frank
So sadly my investigation proved the unreliability of the AO3 sidebar stats so I wouldn't place bets on any of this data. But I typed this post, and I'm on a roll dangit.
That being said, it makes sense from what I've seen on AO3. Even putting aside the huge swell of Karen/Frank there's been a lot more diversity in tagged Matt pairings, in part because he got 2 more canon romantic relationships. Don't have the stats of shipping vs gen, but I'd be interested in them.
