Discussion/Off-Topic Post #2

All Rounds & Other Useful Links | Rules | Mod Post | Writing Challenges | Fills: Completed & WIPs

For things that are neither prompts nor questions for the mod. Talk about the show, ask for help finding lost prompts, organise fic fests or whatever else you want. Discuss away!

Anon commenting is not mandatory for this post. Playing nice is always mandatory.

For the sake of managing spoilers, please use the Defenders-only discussion post for anything Defenders-related. Thank you!

...as a flatmemer, I'm genuinely confused as to why people think they're impossible to ignore or drown out other posts. Yeah, keep the subject lines--but that's what Dreamwidth savior is for. And scrolling down.

That's the problem - right now there's a trend or something where new fills are being completely retitled without the prompt, so DW blocker doesn't work on them unless you add the new title as well. Right now half my blacklist is fill titles and the occasional 'OP'.

The DW saviour doesn't work on phones. So yeah. It can drown out other posts.

And the title changing is a big problem at the moment. I know people might privately think the flatmemers are just being whiny or picky but the subject lines are how I know to avoid or skim past stuff I don't want to see. When the subject lines are completely changed, I have no idea about what I might be about to read (which means that while I'm on flatmeme, I skip all the fills with the new titles, even if they're connected to prompts I might actually be interested in).

I know warnings aren't mandatory anyway, but considering that some of the content in the round robins and meta can have fairly dark themes (or even just specific kinks!) I hope non-flatmemers can understand why people might want the subject lines so they can avoid certain prompts. It's part of the rules, it's anon meme etiquette, and it's an incredibly simple thing to do that makes other people's lives a bit easier.

I mean, no, don't get me wrong, I completely agree--on the previous discussion post, at one point someone pointed out that changing the subject lines + no warnings really upset them/was triggering, and I reverted back to having my fills have the original subject line w/ [FILL, Pt X] plus a warning in it so people could skip it.

People definitely need to abide by the rules and stop changing the subject lines. But I think that is a separate issue than 'stop having fun/stop filling prompts because I don't like them'--imo that goes against the 'be nice' rule.

What?? Where was that said?

I'm guessing they're referring to moving RP and RP-like collab fills to a new community.

But tbh I don't know why people are acting like that's some sort of persecution. If people want to RP, that's what a RP community is for. Simple as that.

Could I remind anyone with opinions on RP to actually also make sure to chime in on that post, too? So the mod sees those opinions and takes them into account?

Personally I'm just in favour of a separate post. We already have them for JJ and comics, and the mod really tends to be laid back unless someone draws their attention to something on the Mod Post, so I can't imagine it would be that much more work really.

So if I'm understanding this right, we shouldn't change the title even when it's a fill? How do we denote that it's a fill? Isn't it standard to write [fill] and name of the fill in the subject line? Or should we put that and then the subject as it was afterward?

Re: Flatmeme

(Anonymous) 2016-04-16 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Say the subject of the prompt is Matt/Frank, slow fuck

For a fill, put the subject line as [FILL], Matt/Frank, slow fuck, 'Under The Sweet Light'

(Anonymous) 2016-04-16 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I prefer it this way, tbh, especially when there are multiple fills.

Re: Flatmeme

(Anonymous) 2016-04-16 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Please check out the rules. You change it only to add [FILL], so people can know that it's a fill and which prompt it belongs to.

For example, you'd change Matt/Foggy, time travel to [FILL] Matt/Foggy, time travel. Not A Wrinkle In Time.

Yep, what the other two anons said: just ADD [fill] (with or without a story title) to the subject line that already exists. Don't remove the original subject line for the prompt.

You can see how people did it in some of the older fills from past posts.

Ok ta. I've been here since last year and always changed the subject to the title though, because others did and I copied. For like 20 fills or so. Nobody's ever told me not to. Sorry guys.

Re: Flatmeme

(Anonymous) 2016-04-16 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
A lot of people do/did it that way, nonnie, don't worry. tbh, sometimes it's fine, especially if you're writing fluff because hey, it's fluff, not much to worry about there. But once you go toward kink, it starts becoming a bigger issue.

Re: Flatmeme

(Anonymous) 2016-04-16 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
No, that's not standard. The format of only having "[FILL] Title of the Prompt" without any prompt description is a recent trend. You should keep the subject as it was afterward.

Honestly I think it's because we got an influx of new meme members after the new season, who may be used to how things are done on other memes and/or didn't pay close enough attention to the rules (which, if I'm being honest, are written in such a way that pertinent info is easily passed over).

I've gently nudge people who change the subject lines and they've always responded with "sorry, didn't know I wasn't supposed to do that."
