You guys, there's a tragedy happening at Remix Madness right now! Out of fifty sign-ups, I am the only person with Daredevil fic. I am desperately hoping to write some more DD stories for this challenge, and I know lots of y'all have written some amazing stories for the kink meme, so go sign up!
http://archiveofourown.org/collections/remixmadness2015/profile <--- rules and sign up
If you're not familiar with the concept, remixing gives you the opportunity to play with someone else's work: you could change the POV, add zombies, tell it backwards, whatever floats your boat. At the same time, you get a chance to see what someone else would do to your stories. Since the madness round is basically a treat round, signing up just means you're throwing your stories into the pot to be remixed - you don't have to commit to remixing anyone else's stuff if you don't want to. It's tons of fun, and I hope some of you will come play!
As an author, I know I would like feedback on my fics, but I know a lot of people are afraid to comment publicly, so who would like an anonymous feedback thread for giving feedback on fic?
Or, we could even do a separate post or something, where the authors post their fic link and people comment giving feedback. Anyone interested?
I know there's at least one other person up to date on the Waid/Samnee run judging by the panicked desire for fluff, but has anyone else managed to read #16? If so, how are you finding your emotional health?
I bought my copy today, real excited because hell I wanted to know what happened next after (spoiler alert) Kingpin showed up. Turns out I didn't. I really didn't.
I just got through reading my way from Miller up through to Waid, essentially (I skipped a lot of the 90's stuff because it was awful), and I'm kinda dying to talk about what I read with people.
I'm all about the Waid love going on here. And I know people here have a hate-on for Miller, so I'm not even gonna go there.
But I absolutely loved the Bendis and Brubaker eras where Matt's struggling with his identity being public and with his marriage, because that entire period is absolutely freaking amazing. And it led me down a rabbit hole of reading Alias, Iron Fist, and the other street level heroes stuff.
Is anyone reading the 2000's Daredevil stuff currently? Has read them and wants to chat about them?
I'm also catching up on Brubaker's and Bendis stuff, and so far everything i've read was pretty neat. I can't say I like the art too much (almost all of what i've read so far has been Maleev's and I usually like his art but I'm also a comic book artist and, while I understand the need, I've seen all the places he cut corners and that greatly dimmed my enjoyment. I definitely like Samnee's style more, he's very dynamic and expressive.)
I have holes in the collection of volumes I'm slowly buying so I have still plenty to read on, but idk if you want to discuss something feel free to launch words at me : D
And I'm not touching 90s stuff with a broom. 90s had been the dark ages of comics. Yuck. As for Miller's stuff, I do want to read on some of his more iconic runs, but I will do so knowing there will probably be plenty of things that will make me go "NOPE".
Also friendly suggestion dictated by personal tastes so take this with a bit of salt: avoid Quesada's stuff. The writing is not stellar by any means and the his art always gives me the creep. Ew.
If I'm finally getting around to filling a prompt from an old post (like, round 2), do y'all think I should reprompt it on the active thread so that people will see it, or is it good enough to just stick it in the fills post?
Lost my own prompt this time, little embarrassing I try to keep track, but does anyone have a link to the prompt about Foggy being the one 9-year-old Matt saved?
Omfg I just remembered that Charlie Cox played that gay douchebag in downtown abbey and I feel like it's something the fandom should be reminded of every once in a while
Never watched Downton Abbey. Is it worth bothering with? Bearing in mind it's rare for me to watch anything that isn't at least a little bit sci-fi or fantasy?
Writers, if there's a story you want more in-depth feedback on, this is the place to ask. You can link to fic you've posted here, on AO3, or anywhere else, and specify if there's anything you particularly want focus on. Posting here does not guarantee concrit, but it does mean you're open to it.
Anons, you can respond with whatever thoughts you have, but please remember the key word here is constructive.
Note: This is not a thread, or a kink meme, for unsolicited constructive criticism. This is a thing we're all doing for fun, for free, in our spare time, so concrit should only be given to those who specifically ask for it.
Okay, so I'm gonna start us off. Would anyone mind giving me feedback on "This is not your city, but it could be"? http://archiveofourown.org/works/4173048/chapters/9421338
It's pretty much slice of life thing and it's a wip, but is there anything I need to keep in mind as I write? How do I write more description for this? I feel like it's too dialog heavy, what do you all think?
I just cancelled my spotify subscription so I can afford marvel unlimited instead (what have these characters done to me omg ;_;) and I'm excited about this
So I'm interested in reading some of the Punisher comics in light of the season 2 news and having come across him in some of the older DD comics. Trouble is, as is my trouble with all new comics I'd like to read, I have literally no idea where to start. Anyone got any good recommendations?
I was hoping someone more qualified would give answer this, because I haven't read much about Castle, but here goes:
The first Punisher comic I ever read was the one-shot “The Punisher Kills the Marvel Universe”. It’s a what-if style AU, but the characterisation is good and it accurately highlights the ruthless competence of Frank Castle. It even touches on his origin story, though that’s slightly tweaked for AU purposes. Also Daredevil is in it. I can highly recommend it. Don't be put off by the heaps of Marvel cameos, their characters are less important to the story.
ever listen to a song and been like "dang this song has x/y written all over it" or "wow i need to write fic based on this song" tell me which songs y'all have had that happen with in regards to matt/foggy (i hope i'm not the only one who has these thoughts lmao)
i was listening to iris by the goo goo dolls + just instantly could think of nothing but matt and foggy (in a romantic sense), especially concerning the nelson vs murdock/daredevil reveal episode/arc.
does this chorus not scream matt/foggy episode ten??
And I don't want the world to see me 'Cause I don't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken I just want you to know who I am
i'm probably one of the rare author/artist combos here but my main thing is drawing, i just happen to feel okay enough about my writing to post it here. i used to be highly embarrassed about it, though.
i just completed high school and am enrolled to go to an art school in the fall! and i'm not exactly wonderful at drawing comics right now but i hope to either one day work at cartoon network (or related networks) or draw for a comic company like marvel :^)
And the writer is Charles Soule! That is awesome news, as anyone who read She-Hulk and saw his take on Matt there when Matt went up against She-Hulk in court knows. He is an awesome writer, of the same caliber as Waid!
And Steve McNiven is a great (if not Chris Samnee) artist, so that should be interesting...
And it looks like he's getting an apprentice of some kind?
If anyone here has been hemming and hawing about where to start with the comics, you should be able to just jump in when the new #1 launches and be okay. :)
So, I've written a fill for a certain prompt, but the story is so long that I will divide it into parts and post one part each day. I know I should post my fill in the WIP thread, but should I add the link of each part to the same comment, or make a new comment for each part? Just wondering, thanks for any advice you can give me. :-)
guys. i am desperately, pathetically in love with charlie cox. and a picture of him w/ a fan in the union square, new york city barnes and noble just popped up within the last few days. i'm suffering.
please someone convince me to not hitchhike all the way to NYC just to possibly run into him. i'm having a terrible time.
If you get murdered on your way to NYC you'll never meet him in your lifetime. Hitchhiking is dangerous. Better to wait and save up for Comic Con. He'll probably show up to one soon.
I know that the meme is a pretty strict anon space, but how would people feel about a thread where ppl active on meme could share their tumblr etc? Because I like y'all and want to know how to interact with you in namespace.
