i just finished reading alias and i am so excited for the show now (not that i wasn't before). i'm trying to figure out which aspects of the comics they'll bring in to the show and which they won't.
obviously we know killgrave is the villain of the season, but what about jessica's backstory as a superhero? and will they keep how killgrave treats her consistent with the comics? it seems like they want to go even darker than they did in the comics tbh
idk! someone just talk comics vs tv show with me please!
This prompt mentions an a/b/o idea from the spn kinkmeme about alphas being able to stop the undifferentiated from presenting as alpha. Sadly the thread died without a link to the original prompt, and the criteria narrows it down to basically half of all spn fic. Would any of y'all happen to know it?
I'm just ranting. Don't mind me. Or, chip in with your own rants about fics you've written. How you figured out you were accidentally switching between third and first person, or how nobody reads them or comments on them. (Speaking of which, I only just discovered the "In the Absence of St. Germaine" fic over on Prompt Post 5, and I am loving it. How have I been missing this? I really, really hope that author hasn't abandoned it.)
My complaints really have absolutely nothing to do with the kinkmeme. I actually wrote a Daredevil fic, *not* for the kinkmeme, over on AO3. And it's slightly depressing because:
a.) Somebody commented and then deleted their comment a day later. I love comments! And probably they loved some other story they were reading on another tab and got confused and wrote a keysmashy-style comment to me. And then took it away, after I'd responded. It's depressing.
b.) I posted the fic knowing that there was a small piece missing. I finally figured out that small piece, and updated my fic today, but of course, since it's already a week old, nobody's going to read the update. I'm very glad that AO3 allows me to correct all my typos and verb tense errors without spamming the list, but I wish there were a way to say, "There's a somewhat substantial change to this fic" without adding another chapter.
(I often wish that AO3 had a more direct style of talking. Then I could do things like tell the people who bookmarked my fic to check it out again. Then again, I know I'd get smothered by the pile of spambots and pure ill will if there were a more direct method of talking through AO3, so I'm kind of glad there isn't.)
Thanks for letting me rant, Bruce! Oh, yeah, maybe you should wake up. It's lunchtime.
Don't worry; people will re-read your fic, or new people will find it and read the updated text. ^_^
I go back in and edit my fics all the time, because I'm no impatient to publish. I think I average between 200-500 words written post update for every chapter, lol.
I'm pretty sure they used the orphanage Matt supposedly grew up in, St. Agnes, in Agent of SHIELD, for Skye. (Not that I've watched Agents of SHIELD.) So I'm fairly sure that he's still in the orphanage on the show.
Okay, so we've had comics recs suggestion threads for Daredevil and Punisher (thanks tons to everyone who contributed to those, btw) and now I'd love to know if anyone has suggestions for highlights/best runs/good places to start for getting to know comics Elektra?
Some of them are the same recs you've likely seen for Daredevil - Miller's run on Daredevil basically introduces her and sums her up fairly well.
Miller also worked on an Elektra solo series called Elektra: Assassin in the 80's which is quite satirical and is only 8 issues long that's pretty well regarded (although how you feel about it will likely depend upon your opinion of Miller in general)
There was a new Elektra series launched as part of Marvel Now in 2014 that didn't run for very long but that Mike Del Mundo drew and so the art is stellar. I didn't read it, but I'm planning to get to it since it's available on Marvel Unlimited. I'm assuming that you could pick up with issue #1 there and just jump in since that was Marvel's whole strategy with that relaunch and she hadn't had a solo series in a while as far as I'm aware prior to that point.
So tell me I'm not the only one who thinks it likely that Jack Murdock's father was abusive. Mrs. Murdock, heartsick at her failure to make her son a better man (his whole job consists of beating people up, after all), bitterly tells her grandson that Murdock men have "a devil" in them, after all. Jack's just as eager to get his son to escape this cycle of violence, and just as doomed.
That's my headcanon, anyhow. (And about the only thing that excuses that horrible line about Murdock men having a devil in them, although it's still terrible theology.) Y/N? Other thoughts?
Does anyone know where the fill for this prompt could be? I've been looking for it for hours but can't find a glimmer of a clue, and Delicious has it tagged as both 'filled' and 'fill completed' so it seems unlikely that it's a mistake twice. http://daredevilkink.dreamwidth.org/3230.html?thread=6927518#cmt6927518
Either no one posted much of anything today (including myself, and I DID post today) or things aren't showing up like they're supposed to when you sort by Daredevil (TV). Is this happening to anyone else?
Oh, I've absolutely been there. I have exactly one multichapter story, which is incomplete, but I obsessively reread it. I get four things out of that: 1. Continuity issues, like you've said. The biggest one for me is the inventory for each of the two main characters. I should just type that sucker up, so I don't have to remember what they have on them. 2. Catching stupid grammar errors. Yep, I can miss typos for months, apparently. Ouch. 3. Actually enjoying my work. I know that that makes me the vainest person around, but I do try to write things I would enjoy reading. There are always "things I forgot I wrote," too, so I can enjoy a joke or a turn of phrase. That kind of backfires sometimes, because I think, "How did I ever manage to come up with that? I'm not that smart, I won't be able to maintain that level of quality in my writing," and reason number 4 for rereading is... 4. Motivating myself to continue. People want to know how it ends. *I* want to know how it ends (which is not to say that I don't have a plan, but the getting there is very difficult). I think I'm stuck in Act 2 blues, right now, to be honest. And it has been *months*.
I think I'd better go reread my fic, now, and also do a ton more research. If I don't manage to spam my list of subscribers with another chapter of that old chestnut they'd forgotten all about by Christmas, I'll be very disappointed in myself.
I've been watching analyses of the trailer for the show (streaming Friday! Woo-hoo!) and I keep hearing, "And of course, we all know Krysten Ritter" and I think "Oh, yeah! I do! She's Gia Goodman!" and they continue "...from Breaking Bad."
Yeah, I've never seen Breaking Bad. Please don't tell me how wonderful it is: I have no desire to see the modern, multi-season version of a classic tragedy, where everybody knows the protagonist is doomed from the beginning due to his own bad choices. Okay?
But does anyone else see Krysten Ritter and think "Gia Goodman," or is that too obscure a reference?
Re: Krysten Ritter (the actress for Jessica Jones)
This post confuses me, because Gia Goodman was her character on Veronica Mars (which is even more obscure than Breaking Bad really, but not to me. I always think about Gia when I see Krysten in something).
Her Breaking Bad character (who is fairly iconic in the show because her arc was so hugely important) is named Jane Margolis. And given that Breaking Bad exploded across pop culture for a while there, I wouldn't be surprised if that's what 99% of people know her from.
from my understanding jessica jones comes out on 20th but does that mean the 20th in the u.s or is it the 20th specific to whichever timezone you're in?
it's 8.00 p.m november 19th here in australia, so, will jj be available in here four-ish hours (when it's the 20th) or will it be out for us on the 21sf? (i assume it's the latter but i wanted to be sure)
you do it your own way. Noone is gonna drag you. If you are confident enough do it. Im not the ebst writer but i put osome of the stuff i writen because i feel they are good maybe not to everyone's standars but if you acomplished what you wanted with your story then it's great
I just remembered I wrote a short p0rn in prompt post 7 but I can't find it and I don't remember the prompt. I remember it was Matt and Foggy making out in a hallway. Does anyone remember this?
I haven't watched it yet, but I'm going to spend the whole time thinking about it while watching it, so just tell me ... is it true there's no Daredevil in JJ, despite the various entertainment news reporting that he was going to for a couple months now, and Charlie Cox being listed on the IMDB page for the final episode?
Re: No Daredevil in Jessica Jones? [I don't know how to format spoils on Dreamwidth]
Hopefully this hasn't already been a point of discussion (I've gone through most of the comments on this post, but not all of the meme), but James Wesley has a really poetic turn of phrase. I just kinda wonder what the thinking was behind writing him like that, whether it's a deliberate choice to balance Fisk out.
I mean, take these two quotes: 1.4: They say the past is etched in stone, but it isn't. It's smoke trapped in a closed room, swirling, changing, buffeted by the passing of years and wishful thinking. But even though our perception of it changes, one thing remains constant: the past can never be completely erased, it lingers like the scent of burning wood.
1.11: Growing to love something is really simply forgetting slowly what you dislike about it. I'll be perfectly honest, the situation calls for it, I do not love this city. The crush of the unwashed garbage stacked on the sidewalk, the air that seems to adhere to your skin, the layer of filth you can never completely wash away.
Maybe it's my age (I'm 22), but the one thing that bothers me most, of all the things Fisk says or does, is his whole little speech to Ben about people not caring about truth any more.
It's this bit: Ben Urich: People seek the truth no matter where they find it. Wilson Fisk: That may have been the case when you and I were young. This world around us is preoccupied with celebrity weddings and videos of cats. But complicated issues, issues that matter? They take too much focus. They take too much time away from texting and the thousand channels on the satellite dish.
That is the one thing that made me want to punch him, more than anything else. Well, probably not punch, I can't hit for shit and I'd die, but have a determined debate with him, and tell him why he's wrong.
Reader beware... The series is out there. If someone doesn't want to be spoiled then the best thing to do is stay away. I think anything in the Jessica Jones section should be free rein.
So, I just watched the first season, and I was really confused as to how the timeline worked out. I know a couple of kind anons were able to sort out the Daredevil timeline in terms of how many months the season took, and I would really appreciate if someone could help me out, bc the whole season appeared to take place over like 2 weeks or something.
On a related note, the first half of the season is clearly set before the devil shows up in papers, otherwise the creepy herohunters would have gone after him, and jessica and luke would have known there were others besides the avengers. But given what happens to Kilgrave by the end of the show, the only way Daredevil season 2 has him as the villain is if it happens before the last episode of JJ. Also, how exactly is the PD entirely crooked because of Fisk and entirely mindcontrolled by Kilgrave? Like the turnover for this district must be insane.
Also, just for reference, does anyone know where DD and JJ are set in reference to Winter Soldier and Ultron? It would be much appreciated
Re: When is Jessica Jones set? (warning for mega spoilers)
Well, all I know is that by ep 13 of JJ, Claire is at the point where she broke it off with Matt. So... some time after episode 11 of Daredevil (and presumably after Claire got back from wherever it was she went away to in order to take a break from Matt).
like.....okay, we know that he's the adapted version of frank simpson (aka nuke). in episode 10 he starts using the red/white/blue pill system that comic readers are familiar with. he goes on a ballistic rampage, tries to murder jessica, and after she and trish subdue him a bunch of shady guys break into jessica's apartment and remove simpson entirely, implying he'll probably be back in future seasons or perhaps even the defenders series.
i've read some stuff on how they likely cast him to specifically look like steve rogers (both in face and clothing) and have similar mannerisms, with the exception that simpson is incredibly violent and aggressive. knowing that he's officially been taken somewhere unknown by the program that made him who he is, what's next?
thoughts? opinions? this is a major loose end i can't help but feel will come back in later stuff.
Re: what do they plan to do with will simpson? (JJ SPOILERS)
Definitely a loose end, although I'm kind of glad? Alias was quite a contained story, and I was worried they'd wrap JJ up with a neat bow and ignore Jessica until The Defenders, but they're clearly setting up for JJ season two. Which = yay!
So I think we won't see Simpson again until JJ season two, which will focus on IGH or whatever it was called, as Trish looks into Jessica's accident and how she got her powers. Likely, Simpson will be a major antagonist in that series. We see right up until the second before impact of Jessica's accident in season one, so I'm guessing we'll see the accident itself and its immediate fallout. (They could even potentially tie it to DD, if the chemicals that affected Matt in his accident were from IGH). And maybe we'll even get some extra shady stuff about Trish's mother? I mean, adopting Jessica just because she and Trish attend the same school is a pretty major thing to do, especially since Trish says she doesn't know Jessica. And Mama Walker's certainly been shown to work all angles and do things that benefit her whilst spinning them as being charitable towards someone else - she could easily have ulterior motives for adopting Jessica beyond what the show put forth.
I don't know, this is all guesswork, I'm just excited that Netflix is confident enough in JJ to set up the next story - too many studios assume female-led shows/movies won't do well enough to warrant sequels.
(And I like that they set up Simpson as a 'Steve Rogers lookalike gone crazy on super serum', compared to on Agent Carter where Thompson is a 'Steve Rogers lookalike gone asshole on his own glory'.)
Bear with me here: Fury and Coulson are the link in the early Marvel movies, with Coulson in particular being the one seen to be on best terms with the various Avengers. Tony is vocally distrusting of Fury, Fury doesn't meet Thor until The Avengers (and maybe Bruce too, I can't remember) and doesn't interact with Clint onscreen until The Avengers. Meanwhile, Coulson is Clint's handler in the first Thor movie, establishes himself as an ally and the face of SHIELD to Thor, is the one to call Natasha about Clint in The Avengers, has a friendly relationship with Pepper if not Tony, and has that cute 'watching you while you were sleeping' scene with Steve. Which all makes sense - Coulson's supposed to be the one they feel an emotional connection with, so they're most effected when he dies. (I don't think we see Coulson interact with Bruce, but Bruce isn't there to hear the news of Coulson's death, so it's a moot point.) Basically, pre-Agents Of SHIELD Coulson is the one who helps connect the team, albeit under Fury's instructions.
Meanwhile, in the Netflix universe, we have Claire. She obviously has a personal connection to Matt, and has stayed at his apartment, so she knows where to find him. (JJ spoilers ahead) She's now met Jessica and stayed at her apartment briefly, and you know Claire would have kept hold of that business card. And she's met Luke, and it seems like she's going to be part of the main cast of his show? So that's 3 out of 4. My long-winded point is, what if Claire is the one who ends up forming the Defenders!? She sees shit going down, and she calls the people who might be able to deal with it and, whoops, she just created a superhero team, who knew? And you know when they inevitably start bickering (as all new teams do) because they're all such ~lone wolves~ it'd be Claire's so-done-with-your-shit attitude that has to set them straight. basically, I want Claire to play a big role in every Netflix Marvel show, and get her props for it.
She will probably be the one bringing the connections, she is a main character in Luke's show but we dont know when we are gonna see it, cause I think we are gonna get DD S2 and then Luke so she's gonna be a guest on DD and a regular on Luke by then all of the three shows so far will know about each other at least she doesnt tell Matt about Luke' and Jessica's ability cause it's not up to her but when Luek came she would at least talk about the guy she knows or something like that.
Where does this ship come from? Is it just a crack ship or? I have nothing against the ship or crack ships in general I'm just wondering if I'm missing something because of how many prompts there are for it..
I could be wrong but it feels like a backlash to the ever-growing pairing of Frank/Matt, like the Foggy and/or Matt/Foggy shippers are a little pissed about Matt being paired so often with Frank and don't want Foggy to be left out so they're pushing (imo, the most hilariously unbelievable pairing of) Frank/Foggy. They don't interact in the comics and it's not like they could actually even tolerate each other and those prompts didn't show up until Frank was announced in DD s2 and they really started showing up when Charlie and Jon were shown to be cuties together at NYCC. But who knows, maybe somebody thinks Elden and Jon make a cute couple? Idefk lol.
Now that we're starting to get JJ fills, is anyone else uncomfortable with having only one completed fills post? Since the prompts are copied into the post, if I'm there checking for Daredevil fills and I haven't finished JJ yet the risk of getting spoiled is really high.
Apologies if this has been discussed before, I don't frequent the discussion post.
I'm looking for a story where Matt and Foggy can lift Mjolnir (together). I don't think it was that long but it definitely had the two lifting the hammer much to the Avengers' shock. I am pretty sure it involved Foggy picking it up and handing it to Matt who was going to hang it (?).
