If they'd put any effort into it, I could believe that they were aware of each other to an extent, but their paths never crossed.
'The Devil' was just kind of around doing his own thing until Fisk exploded the Russians. Jessica might see him, but she had no reason to seek him out.
Matt would hear about Kilgrave, but he doesn't have a list of goons to punch the information out of like Fisk did. Unless he was working with Jessica, he'd only hear about the kilgravings when it was too late to so anything
Jessica might see a sudden influx in blind Asian people and sketchy rich people cars, but even after the bombings she doesn't have enough of an investment in the Kitchen itself to go after the mob. Once Kilgrave comes back, nothing else really matters, and she isn't going to team up with The Devil when she doesn't know or trust him.
Tl;dr: I could have believed it if Marvel had made any effort to explain, but they didn't
Re: When is Jessica Jones set? (warning for mega spoilers)
i kind of thought it had been a while, but i'm mostly basing that on hair. in the flashbacks to the bus incident her hair is significantly shorter-- but maybe her hair grows super quick.
Re: When is Jessica Jones set? (warning for mega spoilers)
they could have even just had like a lazy, throw-away mention of daredevil + it would have been enough. like, have daredevil be mentioned in a news broadcast, played in the background.
it just seems extra lazy since earlier on (episode four i think) jessica + luke were talking about whether there was anyone else like them and neither knew of anyone else. so when claire says luke isn't her first and then she talks about matt making life hard for bad guys i assumed jessica would have asked who she was talking about. i mean, if it was me and someone told me there was someone else like me running around the city i'd want a couple details.
i understand claire would have been reluctant to answer ( she wouldn't even tell foggy anything) but that jessica didn't even ask seems a little implausible.
Re: When is Jessica Jones set? (warning for mega spoilers)
yeah, that's why i was thinking it might be set before he actually becomes daredevil. i feel like man in the mask = regular dude moonlighting as a vigilante / daredevil = superhero/ (also, this might be a dumb question but do people think daredevil is a totally different guy to the man in the mask???)
so if it was during the man in the mask stage it'd make sense that no one counted him but claire talking about luke not being her first special patient should have made jessica interested in who she was referencing.
Re: When is Jessica Jones set? (warning for mega spoilers)
DA: That doesn't mean people think Daredevil has powers. Tony Stark is a superhero but it's well known he doesn't have any actual powers just the mind capable of building the suit. If Daredevil in both his stages has continually failed to exhibit signs of superpowers - like extreme strength, speed etc - it's reasonable to argue that Jessica and Luke have assumed he doesn't have any. They might be interested in finding out a bit more about him because of the work he does (like in the prequel comic to Jessica Jones).
The Claire comment though should have made Jessica interested but maybe she was too stressed to register it at the time.
Re: When is Jessica Jones set? (warning for mega spoilers)
I kind of assumed it's been the same amount of time IRL as it has been in the show - about 6 months between DD and JJ.
Early on in JJ, Trish mentions Jessica having avoided her for something like 6 months. There's also a Trish line that goes "Oh yeah, you became a PI, right?" or something along those lines, with Jessica then asking if Trish has been keeping tabs on her. So Jessica hasn't been a PI long, only setting up shop within the timeframe she's been out of Trish's life. And considering how Trish knows so many details of what Jessica went through and her recovery methods (they discuss her PTSD) there must have been a period of time between Jessica escaping Kilgrave and then cutting Trish out.
So I assumed DD must have happened when Jessica was only recently free of Kilgrave's influence. That would explain why she was in no way involved in DD and didn't mention it in JJ - she would have been (understandably) too preoccupied with her own recovery to care about Fisk and the Russian mob and some guy in black pyjamas. But maybe hearing about all that sketchy shit going down in some way inspired her PI business - knowing there was so much going down in her backyard and finding her own way to be involved without being a hero.
Plus six months would be a decent amount of time for Claire to have her break away from Matt and then be settled back into her normal routine, only for her to get dragged back into looking after people with powers. (If DD and JJ happen too close together, Claire's unfortunate timing and luck could start to feel a little ridiculous.)
I think they kept DD completely separate from JJ because (a) they're saving any reaction the JJ characters might have about Matt for when their paths actually cross and they can spend a decent amount of time on that without sidetracking the JJ plot, and (b) revealing anything about Matt on JJ could step on the toes of season two of DD. There's a precedent for that with the Marvel movies - before the Avengers had met, it was mostly other characters like Fury and Coulson that provided the link between films with their cameos. Even when future Avengers did show up, like Natasha in Iron Man 2 and Clint in Thor, it was Avengers who didn't have their own movies, so they needed to be introduced in others. Jessica and Luke's story is tied together, so it makes sense Luke would be in JJ, and if Iron Fist ever gets cast I wouldn't be surprised to see Danny in Luke's show, due to how important their friendship becomes. But Matt feels more separate - if he meets Jessica or Luke or Danny before the Defenders, I imagine it would need to be a decently big moment and important to the plot of that show, rather than just a cameo.
