I kind of assumed it's been the same amount of time IRL as it has been in the show - about 6 months between DD and JJ.
Early on in JJ, Trish mentions Jessica having avoided her for something like 6 months. There's also a Trish line that goes "Oh yeah, you became a PI, right?" or something along those lines, with Jessica then asking if Trish has been keeping tabs on her. So Jessica hasn't been a PI long, only setting up shop within the timeframe she's been out of Trish's life. And considering how Trish knows so many details of what Jessica went through and her recovery methods (they discuss her PTSD) there must have been a period of time between Jessica escaping Kilgrave and then cutting Trish out.
So I assumed DD must have happened when Jessica was only recently free of Kilgrave's influence. That would explain why she was in no way involved in DD and didn't mention it in JJ - she would have been (understandably) too preoccupied with her own recovery to care about Fisk and the Russian mob and some guy in black pyjamas. But maybe hearing about all that sketchy shit going down in some way inspired her PI business - knowing there was so much going down in her backyard and finding her own way to be involved without being a hero.
Plus six months would be a decent amount of time for Claire to have her break away from Matt and then be settled back into her normal routine, only for her to get dragged back into looking after people with powers. (If DD and JJ happen too close together, Claire's unfortunate timing and luck could start to feel a little ridiculous.)
I think they kept DD completely separate from JJ because (a) they're saving any reaction the JJ characters might have about Matt for when their paths actually cross and they can spend a decent amount of time on that without sidetracking the JJ plot, and (b) revealing anything about Matt on JJ could step on the toes of season two of DD. There's a precedent for that with the Marvel movies - before the Avengers had met, it was mostly other characters like Fury and Coulson that provided the link between films with their cameos. Even when future Avengers did show up, like Natasha in Iron Man 2 and Clint in Thor, it was Avengers who didn't have their own movies, so they needed to be introduced in others. Jessica and Luke's story is tied together, so it makes sense Luke would be in JJ, and if Iron Fist ever gets cast I wouldn't be surprised to see Danny in Luke's show, due to how important their friendship becomes. But Matt feels more separate - if he meets Jessica or Luke or Danny before the Defenders, I imagine it would need to be a decently big moment and important to the plot of that show, rather than just a cameo.
