I don't really understand how it's actually working (616 universe is colliding with all other universes, and we're getting a mash-up of all of them where some things will be mostly the same and others really different? Also DD has a black/red suit now??).
So long as they don't change too much (hey, they aren't even based in Hell's Kitchen any more), it should maybe be ok?
From the way I understand it based on the post-Secret Wars news starting to come out, they're not rebooting the universe. It's really just a way to relaunch everything, but the universe is staying largely the same.
And they've already said that Daredevil is one of the few lines of comics not going to be impacted by Secret Wars really.
We do know that Waid and Samnee are leaving though. I believe after issue 18, so only two left. Then a new team comes onboard.
And Daredevil was definitely in the promo image Marvel recently released of their post-Secret Wars universe.
Although usually when they move to a new writer, they set it up so it's interesting for them and leave their version of the universe on fire.
For example, when Bendis left and Brubaker took over, Bendis ended his run with Matt arrested and in jail. So I don't doubt that Waid is going to hand off one hell of an interesting story arc to whoever takes over.
I thought that might be what the whole 'Matt tries to make a deal with Fisk' was about; Waid and Samnee setting up the end of the run with Daredevil basically controlled by Kingpin as a challenge to whoever is taking over (on that note, do we actually know who is taking over from Waid/Samnee? Is the title going to stop for a bit, or are we going to go straight into a new creative team?). Looks like they had other ideas for that.
From what I've read of the other story arc handovers (like the Bendis to Brubaker), the current writer usually ties up MOST of the main storylines but with a resolution that ends in a challenge for the new team - DD as publically outed as Matt Murdock and in jail, for example. I'm guessing (there's still two issues, so anything could happoen really) that this means they'll probably tie up Foggy's cancer storyline one way or another. Sort out the whole thing with Ikira and the Owl, and keep Kingpin as a valid threat? Maybe have Matt think Foggy and Kirsten are dead (a la Devil in Cell Block D), only for it to be later revealed different - or, if they want to be REALLY cruel, write it in such a way that it would be really hard for a new team to write any deceased characters back in without a serious amount of handwaving / magic.
We clearly live in exciting, if stressful, times for the next few months. *rubs hands together*
They have not announced who is taking over uet, but given that Waid's run winds up as all the new post-Secret War titles launch with new #1s and how popular the series is, I can't see them wasting any time between the end and the relaunch.
charles soule is taking the reigns on the relaunch of daredevil! he's a former attourney who has also written she-hulk (which was very excellent and actually focused a lot on jen walters BEING AN ATTOURNEY, so i am excited about more courtroom action in daredevil vol5) so i think this could go very well!
as an aside, though, when matt offered to get plastic surgery to become unrecognizeable i almost cried. i was reading dd 16 in the car on the way home and i had to keep a poker face or else risk turning on the waterworks in the passenger seat.
also, do you guys think we'll EVER find out who exactly is ikari?
I'm so happy! I was thinking that I might end up dropping Daredevil after Waid's run ended, but I loved Soule's She-Hulk, so I will definitely give it a try.
