(Anonymous) 2015-07-24 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)Jack honestly reminds me a lot of my dad and I don't think I was irrevokably fucked up by his parenting, although I suppose I could just be in denial. I do think that a lot of the criticism of him seems to stem at least partially from class issues, though.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-24 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)To clarify, a lot of the criticism of him seems to boil down to the one scene where Matt is stitching his face, which I agree wasn't A+ parenting, but I also don't think it's enough to say he was a terrible parent; a lot of the evidence seems to be extrapolating things that aren't actually in the show (or saying that leaving a 9 year old at home alone for a few hours is neglectful, which, what?)
