Eh, there are a lot of people out there who love their kids but are still bad at being parents anyway; that's why things like CPS and foster care exist. Jack loved his son, and wanted to provide the world for Matt. He did his best. But he was still kind of a terrible dad.

Foggy does seems to drink his feelings.

My unpopular opinions are:

1) Vladimir has zero redeeming qualities.

2) Karen is not responsible for Ben's death.

I did say they were unpopular opinions ;)

Jack honestly reminds me a lot of my dad and I don't think I was irrevokably fucked up by his parenting, although I suppose I could just be in denial. I do think that a lot of the criticism of him seems to stem at least partially from class issues, though.

To clarify, a lot of the criticism of him seems to boil down to the one scene where Matt is stitching his face, which I agree wasn't A+ parenting, but I also don't think it's enough to say he was a terrible parent; a lot of the evidence seems to be extrapolating things that aren't actually in the show (or saying that leaving a 9 year old at home alone for a few hours is neglectful, which, what?)
