When Matt and Karen and Foggy are hashing things out over their laptops Matt has a braille reader of some sort connected to his computer. Is that a screenreader of some sort? A line by line thing?
I'm pretty sure it's a refreshable Braille display, which is a type of screenreader. There's a wikipedia article on them here, and the picture looks basically like what Matt has:
(also, holy shit, those things are EXPENSIVE, I wonder if it's something he can get subsidized somehow? Does anyone know how disability law works on that?)
I can see Matt getting it through scholarship money, and whatever university he went to for his undergraduate degree maybe helping him get one for a reduced price or something or being able to get one through a grant. Matt would definitely be the sort to get scholarships for good grades and scholarships for students in financial need, and I am sure there are scholarships for students who have a accessibility needs.
We don't see actually see him using it during college, do we? I have to be out the door in 30 seconds, but look at the ADA website. Idk if it's national or just state by state, but in some cases the govt will pay %50 of costs of making your workplace accessible. Still a big chunk of change, but law students are used to huge debts
Found it! http://www.irs.gov/Businesses/Small-Businesses-&-Self-Employed/Tax-Benefits-for-Businesses-Who-Have-Employees-with-Disabilities
So he'd need to fork over the dough up front, but Nelson and Murdock can claim it on their taxes and be reimbursed for a certain percent. There's some other tax stuff for blind people and small companies with disabled employees also, but I haven't gone through it yet.
question about Matt's tech
