If you guys have any favourite Matt/Frank comics scans or panels exploring their very complicated, very violent relationship, please post them here!

Frank's favourite pet name for Matt is choirboy or altar boy. He's done it often enough through the last 20+ years that it should be trademarked by now. I'm sure it is, at least in Frank's mind.

Matt has defended Frank in court more than once. Just not this particular time. :)

Honestly, the artists love to have them loom menacingly over each other whenever they meet. I can't count how many covers or splash pages look like these below.

As much as Matt hates using guns, he did shoot Frank once in the shoulder to keep him from getting away. (This is one of two times Matt used a gun on Frank, but the other one is something I could actually see happening in the MCU so I'll block it out in a separate thread).

This one will always make me chortle in glee, though. Check the panel text for emphasis on particular words, because no professional letterer is that oblivious that they don't know how it reads:

in a couple of those close-up shots of the diorama it looks a lot like matt is wearing booty-shorts with tights underneath, i know nothing about comics!daredevil so i assume he doesn't wear booty-shorts and it's just a fold in the material but i can't un-see it and i love it.

He does indeed wear booty shorts as part of his costume. It's always been a play on his father's boxing gear (with the taped hands and long, laced boots sometimes). I guess his booty shorts need to be skin tight because of his acrobatics not allowing much for floppy clothing. TBH I'm very fond of Matt's very sleek body in art.

sa - sorry meant to add that his new devilsuit appearing later this year is a black bodysuit, I didn't see booty shorts, but the taped hands and long, laced boxing boots are making another appearance. I like it. :)

Sweet jesus, the booty shorts/thigh holster combo just does things to me. Best superhero costume ever.

IKR? Me too. I've always liked gunslingers and those thigh holsters for their pistols, but Matt's thigh holster coupled with the stripper!booty-shorts kind of short circuits my brain.

It should be pointed out that Frank Castle has met Matt's mother, Sister Maggie, and she was emotionally supportive when he needed it most. Yes, it's alluded that she knows exactly who Frank is to Matt, too. Because the Punisher should slow down long enough to show that the guy who hates Matt sooooo much (allegedly) should be shown to have some ties to Matt's mother like a proper boyfriend, right? Pretty sure many of the writers have been flying the Frank/Matt flag for years.

(As for Matt's mother, the story is that she had awful postpartum and tried to hurt/kill Matty when he was a baby. Jack saved/protected Matt, and Matt's mother left them and went to stay at a convent and never came back. Yes, the convent of Saint Agnes, Order of Mercy, where Matt ends up later. The same Saint Agnes we see in the MCU. The same Saint Agnes Frank is visiting in the screenshot below.)

Frank is a really complicated character, but this is a stock example of the Frank/Matt relationship. FYI Frank was flirting with the woman in prior panels, at least until she almost kills DD, and then Frank is pissed and in one heartbeat decides she's worthless. Because Frank can tell everybody who will listen that he and Matt hate each other, and Frank can break Matt's bones and shoot him with tranqs and render him helpless or tie him up or threaten to kill him (all the damn time), but the second somebody else goes after Matt? Frank's not having that.

And then Frank is worried about Matt. Because blind guy taking out a squad on an airborne helo? If Matt succeeds (which he will), who is left to fly it?

Some relevant pages detailing the relationship between Matt and Frank in this particular arc, the 6 issue arc being where Matt has been accused of being Daredevil and is awaiting trial in prison. After Matt arrives in his new temporary home, Kingpin shows up in his cell block, and then right behind him comes Bullseye. At the height of all this we get Frank Castle who reads the paper, sees what's going on, and kills a guy to get arrested and thrown in jail with Matt. Seriously. To get an even better idea of how Matt and Frank feel about each other, please read all the issues because there're so many factors to weigh, it's hard to get a real sense from these pages alone, but at least this is a small taste of what's found there.

If you're new to comics, I'd like to leave a friendly reminder that every panel in sequential art has to mean something. There's a limited amount of space on a page, there's a limited amount of pages in an issue, and you'll have to learn to look beyond the text to what's not said, and also to pay attention to the subtext in the art. People have said they don't know how to read comics, so let me just say I understand that completely. It can be a little bit of a cipher at first, and frustrating if you've never done it before, but please don't let it stop you because once you get the hang of it, particular creative teams are SO GOOD at what they do, it will blow your mind how much of a story is said without being explicitly stated. :)
