Aye, don't misunderstand, I've called what happened in Nelson vs Murdock a bitter divorce myself. Foggy doesn't take this revelation like his best friend simply lied to him, he takes it like his spouse has been having an extramarital affair for years right under his nose. What bothers me about all this isn't the extreme reaction, I actually love that because in this case the reaction is tantamount to Foggy's feelings for Matt, it would have to be. No, I'm angry because of the way Foggy is angry. You say it yourself: Matt lied to the person who loves him most in the world, and yes, I agree Foggy has every damn right to be pissed, this does bear consequences, but this level of consequences, really? Because Matt has been swallowing Foggy lies for years, too, and whatever Foggy was lying to Matt about only adds to Foggy's anger, which just increases Matt's guilt. Matt's guilt is a crux here, something Foggy is well versed in as he mentions it later, but Foggy isn't above pressing that button pretty harshly.
My problem is that Foggy has basically said I love you best, I'm all the family you have, I would never do this to you, but if he loves Matt so much, wouldn't Foggy 'Innocent Until Proven Guilty' Nelson at least give Matt the benefit of the doubt that Matt isn't a terrorist or murderer or any of the other things Foggy called Matt when he didn't know he was talking about Matt? No, once Foggy has his feelings hurt, he damns Matt immediately and lashes out and his love and fear become TOXIC. Matt's still half dead, there's still blood everywhere and Foggy decides that's the best time for him to verbally attack and cross-examine this guy that he supposedly loves/d? To tell the blind guy he felt sorry for him? To threaten to kick his ass? To dismiss and ridicule half of anything Matt says? And not once later in the series even come close to apologizing or taking responsibility for any of the things he said to Matt? I love Nelson vs Murdock very much, but mostly because I believe it's going to bear some ugly fruit at some point later on S2. I'm glad they had it out, it needed to happen, but Foggy walking out on Matt when Matt could have honestly died later that day weighs heavily on my heart.
