Re: Unpopular fandom opinions

Yessss, I think Matt's hyperaware of people, and how base people can be, maybe especially when they try to hide it. I fully believe his blindness (compounded by how physically attractive he is) is a siren song to the depraved because they [think they] can abuse him in some way. It's so easy to see on the show the way they highlighted his emotional weakness (children/old people/sexually-targeted women) as his Achilles, not just because they were victims, but because he's too close to that label in oh so many ways. It feels like subtext to me the way he's overly emotional when faced with helplessness. Being drunk and out of control would equate to him either losing his shit and doing too much damage on a criminal, or [reverting back to] being a victim himself because his faculties are down. I look at his reactions on the screen and can only imagine he's had it both ways. Ehh, I'm not sure if I'm making sense...

I'm really looking forward to learning more about Foggy's issues and why he drinks so damn much, and why it's a knee-jerk reaction. Show spent so much time exposing every one of Matt's (and Fisk's) raw nerves that we were a little shortchanged on getting everybody else's dirty laundry out into the open.

Yeah, I do kind of find it likely that Matt has been victimized before (even excluding Stick, because what that fucker did was straight-up abuse). He was a young, poor, disabled and traumatized kid who had, after Jack died, basically no adult who gave a damn about him--which makes him a prime target for all kinds of bad people. The fact that the thing that set him off in the first case was child sexual abuse, and that he bypassed threatening the guy to straight-up beat him half to death is...very telling.

YES, and the way he described it to Foggy, the way he knew the man was smart enough to do it in a way to not leave marks so no one would suspect and the way he... says it? How does that not come off like first-hand experience, is what I'm saying? I can't look at anything from Matt's past without filtering it through his fucked up relationship with Stick, and even as an adult it's STILL a fucked up relationship because one of the first things Stick does is verbally harass and abuse Matt, he physically assaults him (yes, I'm sure it was a test but he's been out of Matt's life for 20 freaking years and this is how he come back into Matt's life?) and puts Matt into the same unbreakable hold he used to use on him as a child? And, auuuuugh, the second Stick asks for a beer Matt smiles and then catches himself so awkwardly. Like even after the verbal and physical shit, he's still happy to see Stick. THE PAIN. MY HEART. GDI, MATT. And I fully expect Stick to come back into Matt's life (next season) and Matt would receive him the same way, with that anger and awkward semi-hopeful smile on his face. Sorry anon, sorry, I think I just made myself angry all over again. Fuck.
