Um...what do people call cinemas in the US?? Is it theater or does it have to be movie theater, or...? and also if cinemas are theatres then what do you call theatres?? Or do you just use the same word?
Normally I hate it when people make non-canon nicknames for characters (like calling Hermione "Mione," or Foggy "Fog"), but I am strangely not bothered by Foggy calling Matt "Matty."
But like, I am weirdly hesitant to have Foggy call him that in my own fic, because he never says that in the show (does he?). He calls him "buddy" a few times, but idek... "Matty" was a thing his dad called him. (..... right? I'm not imagining that, am I? Or has a fandom norm just wormed it's way into my brain?)
Does Foggy's unwavering support of Matt's dating life and burner phone girlfriends slay anyone else? He's just like OH, IS SHE NICE? ARE YOU GETTING MARRIED YET? WELL BOO ON HER.
Like, Foggy, no, people get burner phones for mistresses and drug dealers not potential long term girlfriends
Okay, so... I think I need a little help with this Daredevil story that I’ve been trying to finish for the better part of a month (not actually written for a prompt, so I hope that’s okay—and btw, it’s gen). I’m just not getting anywhere with it. Would be great if I could just throw ideas back and forth with you guys. I’m currently at around 13,000 words, so it’s already pretty long and involved, but I just can’t figure out how to make the plot fall into place. Let me try to summarize what I’ve done so far.
It starts off right in the middle of a fight where Daredevil is being attacked. Matt isn’t sure by whom, but it doesn’t seem like Fisk or any organized or professional crime gang. He comes out of it with a sprained ankle (cue some Foggy-related h/c, cause, yeah, that’s just my thing).
From something that one of the attackers said to Matt during the fight, Matt suspects it might have been some kind of anti-Daredevil attack. You know, people who don’t like what he’s doing and are trying to get him.
Foggy starts investigating, and actually finds something online. There’s a Daredevil haters group that is getting organized (I ended up calling them “Retributionists”). To find out what they’re trying to do, Foggy goes to one of their meetings and Matt listens in from a rooftop nearby.
There’s a guy called Zack rallying people to stop Daredevil and his self-justice machinations. They have kind of a strike team, and now ask people to build a type of neighborhood watch system in Hell’s Kitchen so that people can alert the strike team to corner Matt when he’s out for his next prowl. (Homeless Network, anyone?)
Foggy and Matt are appalled, and try to think of ways how to stop it. They get Karen involved as well, but obviously don’t tell her that Matt is Daredevil.
Of course Matt just wants to butt in head-first and take these guys on. (You know, like you do when you’re frickin’ Daredevil.) Foggy thinks that’s a terrible idea. They fight. They make up. They still don’t really know how to go about it.
A few days later, Matt is out and about again as Daredevil, and listens in to a crime. A young woman is being assaulted, and he rescues her from the throes of three thugs. They flee before he can do serious damage, and he may just have saved the girl (about 20-ish) from impending sexual assault with a twist, because it turns out she’s also blind.
Matt gets her to safety (her father comes pick her up) without exposing himself. The girl doesn’t realize that he’s blind, and he doesn’t tell her. She does realize he’s Daredevil, though, and her reaction when she finds out is reluctant, because she’s heard stories that he’s not a good guy. Matt eventually wins her over, but there isn’t that much interaction.
The next day, Matt tells Foggy about what happened the previous night, and that he wants to ask Brett to let them know if the girl presses charges, because he wants Nelson & Murdock to represent her. She does, and the girl (Kiera) ends up in the N&M offices with her father. Who turns out to be Zack, the Retributionists guy. Thankfully, neither Kiera nor her father recognize Foggy from the meeting or Matt as Daredevil.
They have a first, initial meeting, and they think that this can work in their favor, because maybe the attack makes Zack realize that Daredevil isn’t the kind of guy who needs to be punished and exposed.
And that’s kinda where I’m stuck now, because suddenly it all feels a little predictable and trite, and I’m not all that sure what to write next and how to wrap it up. I’m also happy to share what I’ve written so far if anyone would like to read it in more detail.
So..... any thoughts? Ideas? Or is this a terrible storyline and I should just trash the whole thing and move on to something different?
In a couple of fics Matt's phone has been completely voice-operated. As in 'Call XY' and it obviously has to have some speech-recognition features but before reading those I had sort of assumed he would have had some numbers on speed-dial and operated the most basic features by touch. Would that be likely/a possibility? He obviously would need to operate the burner-phone by touch because those are unlikely to come with accessibility-features but would that just be out of necessity or might he work his own phone the same way out of convenience/preference? (Judging by his age he might have had a phone at a point where voice-recognition wasn't widely/cheaply available for phones so he might be used to just using speed-dial? Idk.) Is there any episode where he's calling somebody? I am confused/curious/might need this for fills.
Is anybody familiar with American/New York laws pertaining to rape/sexual assault, specifically to hospital protocol and whether/when police would get involved?
I'm trying to figure out if the hospital protocol changes for rape victims who come in on their own to report a rape and/or to get a forensic exam done, versus someone who's brought in via ambulance and who has been severely injured and is possibly unconscious. Would they collect partial evidence before surgery? Or would they still wait until the victim was conscious to gain written consent?
I'm also wondering if police would be called by the hospital if the victim was disabled (spoiler: it's Matt). I've tried to find literature on this, but mandated reporting mostly alludes to abuse of minors, the elderly, and people with cognitive or mobility disabilities, so I don't know if the hospital would go over Matt's head like that and contact police without his consent.
Also, does the American/New York State legal system differentiate between sexual assault and aggravated sexual assault (i.e, committing a sexual assault that wounds, maims, disfigures or endangers the life of the victim)?
I'm watching the show for the first time since reading the comics and my appreciation for the actors is just sky high rn. Like they portray these characters so wonderfully, it's such good casting.
Sorry haha just thought I'd share this thought :')
I know a lot of people call on the comics for info on Matt's abilities, and a lot don't. I'm reasonably familiar with the comics and I think I just about understand Matt's abilities as portrayed there, but do you think they are supposed to be the same in the series, or different?
Putting aside the whole 'world on fire' thing that doesn't really make any sense and in my head is just Matt trying to be poetic and put things into a context that Claire can understand. Does he have the radar sense that he has in the comics, or does he rely entirely n his sense of hearing, touch, taste and smell to 'see' the world? In the comics he can read most text pretty easily by simply feeling the raised area where the ink in on the page or the indentations a pen has made. Can he do that in the series? I know he touches the map in episode...8? I think? And it looks like he might be getting a sense of what;s on there, but do you write him as actually able to read print in this way or not?
I guess what I'm asking (because there is probably no definitive answer until there is more series for us to gather data from) is what is your take on it. I'm especially interested to hear from anyone who has no knowledge of the comics to find out what kind of an impression you got of his abilities from the series alone? But I'm equally interested in what everyone else thinks.
i've been trying to find a kinda old fill that really loved, but i've had no luck so far. It's kind of like a fuck or die prompt, and the filler wrote this beautiful story where foggy & someone (related to a N & M case?) are kidnapped. Matt goes to save them as the Devil of Hell's Kitchen, and the baddie makes Matt give Foggy a blowjob (this is before Foggy knows that Matt's the Devil). It's hot as hell and super angsty. I will love you forever if you could help me find this :)
Okay, so I wanna write a fic in which Matt is cursed to always tell the truth and have absolutely no one believe him. I've got the reveal scene written in which Foggy asks him if he's really blind and the curse makes him walk out, but I've got absolutely no idea where to go from there. I know I don't want him to lose his law license, but kinda want everything else to fall apart, so help?
I am thinking of writing a Matt-woos-Foggy fic and I know that at some point there was a prompt to that theme (I think in the thread there was mention of Matt finding Foggy's favorite cookies or something with his supersenses?). Would anyone happen to have it saved?
Guys, if you had to jump to conclusions, would you think Foggy was not exactly (or only) hetero based on the cues by the show? They put those things in the series for a reason, and it's not like they're pulling the same things from the comics, so. The show uses some pretty stock stereotypes...
Not just appreciating Matt's pretty right away which was very blatant, but Foggy's singing showtunes (look, I know plenty of straight people love showtunes, but I'm pointing at stereotypes here) and mentions poppers in the same scene, and he more or less builds his whole professional life around Matt. The whole Maverick and Goose thing (Goose died, and he was married) was a really funny nod, too, and the minute he has that falling out with Matt, he runs to Marci and they have some (back-channeling again?) presumably drunk, violent sex since she seems to pleased with him (he was 'actually good').
We don't get as many nods for Matt but he's seemingly doing the jealous tripping with his cane thing when he accuses Foggy of chasing a girl via Punjabi class (instead of taking Spanish with Matt), and he's obviously flirting with Foggy in the Uni scene when Foggy's asking why none of Matt's girlfriends work out and what Matt is looking for. Matt 'looks' at Foggy meaningfully and says he's looking for someone he really likes listening to. And Foggy laughs, and Matt laughs, and nothing else is said about it. Of course, in retrospect the only time 'it ever works out' for Matt is his relationship with Foggy, which has outlasted everyone. If they have commitment issues with anyone else, they don't have them with each other.
Matt and Foggy have that 'sounds like we're getting married' scene, which is apropos, and then they have their awful breakup scene with Foggy asking 'was anything ever real with us'? Which still breaks my heart. What other stereotypical nods am I missing?
But if you'd never read a comic nor had any idea who Daredevil was before the show, would you assume Matt and Foggy had a romantic thing in University just based off the show?
...how we talk a lot about how foggy does his best to be supportive to matt, but matt is extremely supportive to foggy himself?
like, okay, this first season was extremely oriented on matt suffering and thus needing a good support network. however, take a look at these panels here: http://repmet.tumblr.com/post/124529483169/so-i-decided-to-see-what-sort-of-matt-and-foggy
the smell of foggy's chemo drugs sickens matt to the point of having to excuse himself to vomit. and yet. and yet. as soon as foggy calls for matt, he puts on a happy face and comes back to foggy's hospital room. matt desperately wants to be there for foggy, like to the point where he's using all of his money to find top-of-the line cancer treatments, using his networking with ant-man to get specialized medical attention, and even taking foggy out with him as daredevil so he can get a view of new york from the chrysler building.
so like, can we just talk about this? foggy obviously loves matt but matt is willing to give up his time, his money, and even his life to save foggy. now that's dedication.
I've seen this word in many prompts, but what is "shenanigans"? you using it as in these meaning: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Shenanigans ? ò_O
I remember reading a comic where the bad guy had a device that deafened Matt? Like made some sonic/high frequency noise that messed with his hearing...I think it was waid's run? And Matt was up on a roof. Does anyone know what that thing was/what issue it was? :/
not sure if this is the right place for this but i'll give it a shot.
i know that putting together a fanfiction archive/library/rec-blog on tumblr is a pretty common practice for fandom + i was thinking about setting one up for daredevil. i don't want to step on any toes or upset anyone + i've never run one before so i was just wondering: is it okay, etiquette-wise, to link works on the blog (not post them, just include the title/length/brief description and then provide a link to the fic) (with full credits to the author, obviously) without seeking permission or should i seek explicit permission first.
i'm basically just looking to set up an easy-to-navigate recommendation list and was just wondering if anyone had any advice on doing it unproblematically!! :-)
Do we have anyone here who knows about US law? I'm writing a story that involves what I think is a class D felony. I found a few links that explain which steps will happen if a case goes to trial, but there weren't any timelines given on how long such a case would actually take. Any help?
What I'm looking for specifically is: 1) How many days/weeks are between the arrest and the first court date? 2) How many weeks/months between the arrest and the final verdict?
I know this isn't an exact science, but just a rough timeline would work for me in order to sound at least halfway realistic.
i have some vague ideas for a fic where Matt and Foggy move to England and it would be really useful/interesting if anyone from the US who has visited the UK could tell me what they found strange/different about it? Were there comparisons you made about language/food/lifestyle/architecture? Literally anything. And also, if you met people over here, how did they react to you? Did they say anything about your accent/were they particularly eager to introduce you to certain things?
And if you haven't visited, do you have any preconceptions about the UK?
So I know that the Emmy nomination system is totally broken and the whole thing means practically nothing, but...How was Daredevil not nominated for Stunt Coordination? Like, how??? Was the hallway scene NOT as groundbreaking and stunning as everybody said it was? HOW??????
I just watched the newest Karate Kid movie with my niece, and there's this training montage thing where the kid is first starting to learn Kung-Fu, and it just... gave me feels about the shitty training that Matt received from Stick.
Like, watch this and tell me it doesn't give you a sad when you compare it to what Stick did:
