Matt & All of Hell's Kitchen: Test for Echo

I know it's a huge ask, but I was listening to Rush's album, Test for Echo, on the way to work today. It's one of my favorites of theirs. Anyway, it hit me how perfect the lyrics for the songs on that album fit the narrative of season one, and I'd like to see someone write something that ties each of the songs off of the album to the events/the characters of Daredevil.

Gen, Matt on American Ninja Warrior

Total crack, I know, but come on. Matt on American Ninja Warrior. Maybe the show has an Avengers special and he's on there as Daredevil. Maybe Foggy is a huge fan and when he finds out about Matt's mad parkour skills he talks him into it. The show plays up the "tragic backstory" bit about Matt being blind and at some point Matt just says 'fuck it' and destroys the course, and the commentators are beside themselves with how awesome it was.

Or, he makes it almost all the way to the end and loses his grip on the obstacle that has been taken people out all night and Foggy almost pees himself from laughing because of the disgruntled look on Matt's face when he climbs out of the water.

Instead of the poor late Sullivan, Brett is the one that finds Matt and Vladimir. Matt doesn't want to hurt him since he's a friend and Matt's sure he's a good cop. Unfortunately since he's a good cop Matt knows Brett won't tell central it was a false alarm without a good reason, so he rolls the dice and reveals himself to Brett before Vladimir wakes up to overhear.

Inspired by a post on tumblr. Matt has a guide dog, not that he really needs it but it was a gift and okay, the stupid thing has grown on him, he even gave it a name, Foggy. Though he's more a normal pet than anything because Matt really doesn't need a lot of guiding.

Then one day magic or something happens and said dog becomes human.

That's it. I just need some crack.

So it's 2057 and Matt's getting old. His injuries are catching up to him and he's just slowing down too much even with everything he learned from Stick and his family's legendary constitution.

Just once he's too slow and the wound is actually fatal. Matt dies. There is a funeral and a wake and Claire, Brett, Karen and Foggy get absolutely plastered and the other superheroes stand in uncomfortable clumps off to the side as the old ladies from his church weep into their handkerchiefs, berating his foolish kindness.

A week later Matt wakes up in his own apartment, 32 years old again, with a being (Angel? Demon?) standing over him informing him that his mission is not yet complete.

He watches everyone he knows and loves grow old and die. Matt dies a second time. Wakes up young again. and again. and again. He's not allowed to stay dead, not allowed to give up his lifework as the Devil of Hell's Kitchen, even when that name's long forgotten.

“No, God, no,” Matt moans when he runs his hands across his face, feeling smooth skin instead of weathered and aged flesh. “No!” he screams, sitting up and feeling for the first thing he can get his hands on. He throws the clock clear across the room, not caring that it’s now scattered into tiny little broken pieces on the floor.

“Oh, Matthew,” a voice suddenly coos, and Matt’s already on his feet, rage racing through his veins. “This is never going to end. You know that.” And it laughs, fucking cackles at him.

Matt’s so angry that there’s tears in his eyes now, and all he can think about is the unbearable emptiness that’s gnawing at his chest. “Why can’t you just let me die?” he shouts, voice hoarse and worn.

“Matthew,” and now the voice is right by his ear, though there’s no breath ghosting across his skin. It’s just..still. “You are a one-of-a-kind. A truly unique specimen. And this city needs you.”

Matt shakes his head, hands tightening into fists at his sides. “No, not anymore. I can’t do this anymore!”

The voice laughs at him again, and he covers his ears, tears streaming down his cheeks. “You mean to tell me, you don’t think this is a fitting life for the Devil of Hell’s kitchen?” It’s silent for a moment, before the voice is loud and clear by his head again, only this time, it speaks in a voice so heartbreakingly familiar to Matt’s ears. “Why, my boy, haven’t you ever heard of purgatory?”

Foggy!

Nonono…this can’t be happening!

No...I can't do this again

Matt falls to his knees, shaking his head violently. “Leave me alone!” he pleads, voice breaking, but the thing keeps talking, this time in Karen’s voice and it burns his ears.

“But I thought you liked hurting people, Matt! You like to give beatings, do you not?”

“I was…I was only h-helping…”

“No, helping is listening to your friends! Using the law, remember, Matty?” And Matt chokes back a sob because it’s using Foggy’s voice again. It’s bad enough that it’s been almost two centuries since he’s actually heard it, and now it feels like there’s a knife being driven through his chest, but it’s a theoretical one, made up of all the guilt and pain he’s used as a crutch all these years.

“But you’re above the law, aren’t you, Matt?” And now it’s taunting him as Claire, and Matt’s ready to find the closest sharpest object because he really can’t take much more of this. “Torturing people is just a game to you, isn’t it?”

“Just let me die…please…” he begs, and suddenly there’s a symphony of laughter beating on his eardrums - Foggy’s, Karen’s, Claire’s…

“Sorry, Matty,” and this time, this time it’s Jack Murdock’s voice speaking. “But that’s not going to happen. I told you not to fight with your hands, but you just couldn’t listen, could you?”

“I-I’m sorry,” Matt sobs, body shaking from the tremors that now wrack it.

“Sorry isn’t good enough,” it sneers, using a tone Father Lantom never would have. “And you’ll find that out again and again and again!”

Matt curls into a ball on the floor, fingers twisting in his hair and pulling as hard as he can.

He needs pain right now.

“See you next time, Matty,” it laughs in Stick’s ancient voice, and then, the room is still.

He lays there for what feels like an eternity, but finally pulls himself up. Using all the energy he can muster, he makes his way into the bathroom, letting his nails scrape against the walls as he comes to stand in front of the mirror. He can’t see what’s staring back at him, but it doesn’t matter anyway.

He’s not there for that.

The punch he throws lands a direct hit to the glass. Shards break off, both small and large into the sink below him. With a shaking hand, he picks up one of the larger pieces and takes a deep breath before digging it into his skin and running it down his left wrist. He somehow manages to repeat the action to his right. Once he’s done, he loosens his grip on the glass, listening as it, along with his blood, clatters to the floor.

It’s raining down hard now, and dizziness hits him like a punch to the jaw. He stumbles back against the wall, sliding further and further down it until he reaches the cold, hard floor.

It’s not the first time he’s died, but he’s praying it’ll be the last.

This sounds like an excellent prompt for the current political climate in this 'verse.

Matt is a sommelier (wine expert)

A sommelier for those who don't know is someone who is basically an expert on wine and wine service. In restaurants they pair and suggest wines for your meals and preferences.
The Master Sommelier (basically the highest level you can get in the profession) is considered one of the toughest tests in the world. You need to know your taste perfectly AND have expert knowledge on a wide range of obscure wine information. only like 200 people have passed in the last 40 years. it's cruel.

Okay so Matt's got those enhanced senses which would be perfect for wine tasting, and his knack for studying would mean he would be so good at knowing all the obscure wine trivia.
Also I just want to see him be suave and fancy and swirling wine or w/e

(Taking a page from the Unsullied and Game of Thrones) Stick disfigures his genitals when he's a kid so women will no longer be a distraction.

Eventually, Foggy finds out what happened.

He's there for Matt in every way possible.

bad things happen to matt murdock at st agnes and he begins to imagine himself as a superhero called daredevil, someone who is able to protect himself and others.

i see this ideally as current day adult!matt murdock (established as daredevi)l where everything is the same only the origins of daredevil are that he started as an imaginary alter-ego/safe-place that matt used while bad things happened to him/other orphans. sort of explains his extra strong motivation to save children.

i'm terrible at explaining these sorts of things but basically matt murdock couldn't protect himself/daredevil can protect himself/others

Stick has that creepy predator vibe about him. And he's an asshole, which is canon. After his fight with Matt in Matt's apartment, he ends up fucking Matt and THEN leaving.

Only it's not the first time this has happened. They did it when Stick was training Matt. Maybe more than once (probably more than once). That + Stick abandoning Matt is exactly what fucked Matt up for life.

Give me creepy predator Stick preying on bb!Matt.
Bonus points for underlining that Stick left the bracelet in adult!Matt's apartment to further fuck Matt up and manipulate him emotionally (aaand perhaps to open the possibility of more sex down the line).

But I think it might be even better if Stick fucks Matt BEFORE they go after black sky. I mean, they have that one little fight that ends with drinking beer together, how about they fuck then? Then afterward, the real fight, and Stick leaving.

So they get him a trained mini horse. At first, Matt hates the horse, but he's a big secret softie and falls in love with it. It's fluffy! It wears little shoes! Bonus points if Foggy names the horse something really stupid and it manages to stick.

I want an AU where indentured servitude still exists and can apply to the children of indebted servants. Jack Murdock's debt is owned by the boxing fixers. After his son is blinded, Jack decides to bet heavy on himself and win enough money to pay off his debt and the legacy debt of his son.

We know how that story ends.

Matt's alone in the world now, and taken in by an orphanage that trains young people to be servants (as they owe a debt now for their care). Stick still takes over Matt's training and, the people who murdered his father, take over the debt.

Fifteen years later, Fisk crosses these low-level gamblers and fixers and sees the value in the quiet blind man who can disarm anyone in 10 seconds and won't stay down. He buys Matt's debt and with the help of Vanessa, emotional manipulation and psychological torture, gains loyalty from him.

Matt remains their loyal attack dog (although they cannot beat out of him his refusal to kill) until he somehow crosses paths with Claire...and then Foggy.

I'm looking for something similar to the 2005 movie, Unleashed, but Matt is still literate and verbal, just withdrawn. Reduced to a possession of the Fisks in every sense of the word.

Matt/Foggy: Foggy meets Daredevil, pre-series

Inspired by a previous prompt where Matt meets his future self:

Foggy is out late one night - maybe in college, maybe while interning at L&Z, and some Very Bad Men come and attack him.

A man in a red and black suit, with kinda puny devil horns on the cowl, comes and rescues him. Foggy is at once amused by the suit and seriously attracted to/grateful toward the guy, who has a voice that's made for activities that go on in the sheets, and a jawline that would make any model jealous.

He and his rescuer talk for a little while, and at one point, they kiss - maybe a few times - and then his rescuer disappears.

Foggy goes home and tells Matt about the guy who saved him.

This is what really sparks the idea for Matt to become a vigilante, though the little girl is the one who finally prompts him to take his idea and make it a reality.

It takes Matt a while to realize that the guy who saved Foggy was him, and that, in order to still have his best friend alive and well in present day, he has to find a way to go back in time and save him in the past.

Foggy has known it was Matt since he found him nearly dying in his apartment. He's just been waiting for his best friend to catch up, and to make a move.

So Foggy doesn't really know why he thought turning eighteen would suddenly make his life better because it absolutely doesn't and he's still working retail at a crappy clothing store but at least he's got college to look forward to in the fall, right. The only bright part of his week is when Mr. Murdock comes in to buy some new clothes - which he does, a lot, weird, but being a blind guy and a lawyer in this city must be tough on his clothes - and for some reason Foggy is the only sales associate Matt trusts to pick out matching clothes, ties, etc. without him walking away looking like a clown.

Matt, for his part, actually does go through clothes a lot - being a vigilante is ridiculously hard on his wardrobe, okay - but he mostly goes there to see Foggy because sometimes the kid is the only bright spot in Matt's otherwise guilt-ridden universe.

I'm cool with Pre-slash or first time. Just make it happen, anons!
