Sleepwalking Matt (Matt/Any)
(Anonymous) 2016-08-12 01:08 am (UTC)(link)Someone (Foggy, Claire, or Karen) has to try and deal with a sleepwalking Matt. Whether he thinks he's trying to fight bad guys, or make it to the kitchen to wait for his dad to come home, or something else ... All up to you. Gen or shippy is great.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-16 02:33 am (UTC)(link)Matt's been passed out on her couch for the past two hours. He's not in any immediate danger, but she sure as hell wasn't going to let him limp home in that condition, and she'd convinced him to stay the night. After she'd made sure he had a reasonable dose of (swiped) pain meds in him and a blanket, she'd gone back to bed. It was around 4am when she heard shuffling footsteps outside her door.
She'd told him not to get up lest he pop the stitches she just put in, but she couldn't say she was surprised he hadn't listened. She heard him fumbling with the doorknob and resolved to go put him back to bed.
She got up, crossing the room just as Matt opened the door, shuffling into the room looking uncharacteristically disoriented.
"Uh, hey, Matt?" she prompted, moving closer. He looked eerily inhuman in the dim orange light from the streetlamps coming in through the window.
Matt made a noise like a grunt, muttering something afterward that she couldn't decipher.
"Matt?" she asked again, quietly.
"Don' worry dad... 'm gonna patch you up..." Matt mumbled, staggering forward a few more steps. "Gonna... good as new, promise..."
Claire gaped, then the pieces clicked. He's gotta be sleepwalking.
"Hey, hey, Matt, why don't you go back to bed?" She tried to gently guide him back out of the room, hoping he'd heard her, but he kept talking undeterred.
"No, no... No dad c'mon... you're... gonna be okay... always gettin' back up..."
Claire swallowed hard. Matt sniffled, seeming distressed. Claire felt like she was violating his privacy somehow, learning intimately personal details without his knowledge. She took a breath and decided she would deal with the moral consequences of all of this in the morning.
"Almost there," she said, if only to herself. Matt had gone silent, just rocked back on his heels, rooting himself when she tried to get him to sit back down on the couch. His hands were moving, clutching at the air, making repetitive motions she couldn't figure out.
She finally got Matt to go back to sleep, wondering if he'd remember this when he came out of his drugged sleep.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-16 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)also this is less shippy and more angsty but it's there if u squint)
Matt stirred while Claire was spreading jam on her toast, and she watched him carefully. He groaned quietly, resurfacing from the pain free haze the meds created.
It took a few minutes for him to fully come out of it, and he'd maneuvered himself into a sitting position as Claire thoughtfully chewed her breakfast. What he'd said while sleepwalking still hung heavy in her mind, but she'd elected not to mention it unless he did. He hadn't brought up anything about his dad otherwise, and she decided he was allowed to keep it to himself if that's what he wanted.
"Morning sunshine," she called, announcing herself. "How're those ribs?"
Matt huffed a laugh, wincing. "As expected."
"Hm," Claire hummed around a mouthful of toast. She watched him take stock of his injuries, careful as he touched the bandages around his chest and felt the bruises on the left half of his face. His right calf had a laceration about six inches long, diagonally across the muscle, but she had a feeling he didn't need to touch that one to know how bad it was.
He heaved himself off of the couch, and Claire let him. She knew he was going to take off whether she protested or not, so she watched him stand with a heavy sigh.
"Careful of your stitches," she said, almost as an afterthought.
"Yeah." He gingerly made his way to the window and crawled out onto the fire escape, heaving himself over the railing. He fell out of sight, and Claire marveled at his strength. Not just physically - which was something else entirely - but emotionally. She wondered how much she didn't know about him, how much he would never tell her. She went back to her breakfast, not allowing herself to look forward to the next time she'd see him. After all, he only ever showed up half dead. She pushed down the nagging voice at the back of her thoughts - "What are you gonna do when he shows up too badly hurt for you to save? What happens then?"
She took a long, steady breath, and got up to close the window.
