Gen or other, H/C Permanent injury forces daredevil to retire & Foggy's glad

(Anonymous) 2016-05-10 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Set sometime post season 2 after Foggy and Matt go their separate ways. The next big bad somehow clues into Daredevil relying on his other senses to do what he does and finds a way to permanently limit or damage them. Maybe they remove an eardrum, resulting in permanent hearing loss and issues of vertigo. (Would prefer if he's not rendered fully deaf). Or something else entirely as long as it effectively ruins Daredevil's career and (arguably) Matt's life.

After awhile, Foggy learns through Brett or Karen or Facebook (lol) that Daredevil has retired and he's happy about it... until he finally runs into Matt and realises exactly why Matt's called it quits. Cue moral dilemma about being relieved Matt's just a "normal" blind man and no longer risking his life as the man in the mask.

Alternatively, it doesn't have to be permanent damage. I'm just here for Matt whump with a conflicted Foggy... little to no c with my h just fuck me up :)

Could be something less extreme than that, a knee injury that won't heal. He's fine for the most part, but can't keep up the level of athleticism needed to be Daredevil without making it worse again.

Though, being Matt I bed he'd go out anyway, if there was something he knew about that he needed to take care of...

Foggy might not even realize what the problem is at first, and then DD goes out one last time and Matt winds up in a wheelchair for three weeks...

Or something.

OP here :) Yeah! I'm not opposed to the idea, but I have a feeling he'd go out even with a snapped ACL or some other injury that would limit his speed/agility. (Like, I'll just handstand my way through patrol, nbd guys! I'm fine. I've got this). I also feel like if Foggy found out that Matt tore a ligament trying to do a super fancy triple flip kick (and then made it worse by going out again despite the injury), Foggy'd have no remorse over feeling good about Matt being in the chair for a month. Kinda just desserts and all that.

Whereas without his senses, Matt would be truly miserable -- life altering coordination/navigation skills lost vs accommodating getting around in a wheelchair for a little while. Its extremity is what makes Foggy's moral dilemma so difficult. It's just desserts/gets Matt off the street, but it also destroys the life Matt's built for himself. As well, without his senses specifically (as opposed to an inconvenient knee injury) there'd be no debate about attempting to Daredevil through it. Presumably, he would barely be able to get around his "day life" without his ability to echolocate or w/e (for the first while, at least), let alone don his suit and do some flips and shit.

Let me be clear though: I would read anything that explores this topic! Temporary knee injury or permanent sensory deprivation. I just lean towards the PSD because it'll be more angsty :)

Different anon

What if that coming and going deafness thing after Frank shot him comes back? Like...he can't predict when it will happen, or how long it will last, and there isn't much warning, he'll just go from 'doing just fine, having fairly okay day' to 'totally deaf for anywhere from 30 seconds to 6 hours with like 30 seconds warning as ears start to ring and then sound totally fades out'.

So he ISN'T permanently deaf, the hearing always comes back, but if he never knew if he'd suddenly be both blind AND deaf in the middle of a fight....

And maybe he realizes as it goes on that sometimes there isn't any particular reason for the spells, but that hits to the head almost guarantee a spell within the next 24 hours, and prolonged adrenaline spikes tend to be a trigger, and elevated heartrate has some correlation...

If Foggy saw Matt during a fairly long deaf spell...can you imagine how guilty he'd feel?

god. what's worse, matt refusing to call anybody for help if he can find his phone, or telling his phone to call foggy and then just -- 'foggy, i can't hear anything right now, please come over--'

I think these are actually two different prompts.

Knee injury - or any injury - is terrible and interesting in many ways.

But Matt loosing his senses for whatever reason is giving Foggy everything that he wanted and expected about Matt. It's a "be carefull what you wish for" kind of story, and the levels of guilt Foggy would grow for wanting this would be astronomical (as they should be).
