I had a few ideas and was considering writing this, and then I was on a train for 3 hours and ended up with so many ideas and like 7 pages.
So it's happening.

Fill 6/? : Frank/Jack Murdock: Matt gains another father

(Anonymous) 2016-05-29 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
The diner smelled faintly of burnt food and old coffee, the smell of fresh cooking food hit his nose, over taking the older smells. Frank scanned the room. There was a pair of older women in one corner and at the bar two middle-aged men, blue collar from the looks of it. He took a seat at a booth and ordered coffee.

A few minutes late Jack entered with Matt. The boy had a hand on Jack’s elbow and his cane lifted. Jack spotted him and walked over. Matt sniffed as they made their way over. Jack’s recollection of Matt’s evolving sensory issues comes to mind however instead of complaining or commenting on the food Matt focuses toward the booth.

“Frank!” Matt greeted. Jack looked surprised as Frank felt but greeted Frank as well.

“Matt, Jack.”

“Matt you listen to Frank, okay?” Matt made a face but sat across from Frank. “I know Dad.” he whined. Jack turned to Frank and pulled out his wallet. “Frank, can you make sure he gets dinner?” He handed Frank money, too much for dinner. So Frank was being paid. First legitimate paying job since he got back was babysitting.

He’d returned the money after Jack picked him up but took it to get the man to go to his job. It would defeat the purpose otherwise. Jack introduced Frank to the waitress, who Matt greeted cordially and with an air of familiarity.

The waitress, Meredith, her nametag had made him aware when he had come first, looked at him seriously. If Frank were a creep he wouldn’t have escaped even if he tried, he thought. Frank greeted her warmly. He wasn’t hiding anything (yet) and him being creepy and vague would be more memorable than “Jack’s New Friend Who Babysat Once”.

Jack left with several glances back. Matt was running his hands over a Braille menu Meredith had brought over. Matt seemed to be reading slowly and Frank wondered how well he could keep track of the text. After a moment he seemed to decide if his reskim was an indication.

He didn't say anything. Frank looked at his own menu and decided on a burger. It was the least likely thing to get him sick or to disagree with him. He grabbed the money that Jack had him.

“Here kid.” Matt frowned.

“What?” He pressed his hand onto the bill fold. “What is this?” He ran his hands over the bills. “Money?”

“Yeah, it’s what your dad gave me. Keep it. I don’t want to forget to return it.” Kid made a face.

“My hands are dirty now.” Right. Sensory issues, God knows what he felt. Although now Frank wanted to wash his hands too. Maybe it was just a hygiene thing.

“Okay. Let’s order and then wash our hands.” Matt’s hand vanished under the table and reemerged empty as he nodded. “You sure you ready?”

“Yes. I know what I want.”

“Good.” An awkward pause and Frank tried to catch Meredith’s attention. The woman came over with a bored look.

“What can I get you?” Frank ordered. Her tone turned more pleasant and her expression softened as she spoke to Matt. “And you, Matty? The usual?”

“No, thank you, Merry. May I please have the six with no mayo and extra mustard?”

“Course.” She glanced at Frank with flinty eyes. She was watching him. At least Jack had good friends he thought. They added drinks and Frank awkwardly guided Matt to the restroom. They washed their hands and returned.

“Hey, Frank?” Matt said as they returned to their booth. Matt sat and swung his legs across from him

“Yeah?”

“What do you do? You said you used to be in the Marines but what do you do now?”

“I’m retired.”

“Oh. You get bored? Is that why you’re boxing with my dad?”

“Partly. Just need to get some training. I need to build up my strength.”

“You do that all day?”

“No. I do a few things here and there but I'm not working or looking for work.” Definitely not admitting what he did most days.

“What do you?” Frank shrugged then realized it was a meaningless gesture to someone who couldn't see.

“Nothing really. Trust me kid. My day would bore you.”

“I wanted to a boxer like my dad.” Matt said and Frank was struck by Lisa saying something similar seemingly ago. Matt didn't seem to think it was odd to comment given his situation because he added almost without preamble. “He doesn't want me to do like manual labor so I have to study a lot.” He made the universal face of children who did not want to do homework. “I think I want to be a lawyer.” He looked earnest. “I can still be one even though I can't see.”

“Yeah? That’s good.” And Frank meant it. It would be unfortunate of the kid’s full future were just arrested because of the accident. “You know what kind of law you want to do?” He was probably too young to actually answer that but shit if Frank knew many lawyers. It was possible the kid had a role model and had a clear course of action in his head.

“No. I want to help people though.” Very noble but kid had proven he wasn't just spouting bullshit. He thought as he took a hard look at the glasses.

“I'm not too familiar with lawyering but I'm sure you'll do fine and help people.” Matt seemed to enjoy the encouragement. “You doing good in school? You need good grades to be a lawyer.”

“Yes.” A bit petulant now, normal kid reaction Frank thought and realized he was smiling. Frank shook his head. “I’m not a baby I know you need good grades and I have to go to college and law school.”

“Not saying you’re dumb.” He said with a firm voice. “There was a reason I went into the Marines, kid. I had decent grades, but nothing special.” Matt seemed to think about it.

“Can I ask-”

“Order up!” Meredith exclaimed. Frank turned and saw her carrying their meals. He took his plate and watched her narrate the positions of the food and drinks.

“What did you want to ask?”

“What do you look like? You don't have to tell me. If you don't want to that's okay. I know it's weird.”

“It's fine kind. I'm not much to look at but I'll try to give it a shot.” He had to think and describe himself. He hadn't really needed to too before and he didn't feel comfortable describing himself like a target, it was too impersonal. He thought.

“Well I'm not sure. I'm kind of average. I guess? My hair is a bit grown out but I usually have it in a standard Marine haircut.” Kid pondered.

“Color?”

“Black, well mostly. Got some grey from life, my time in the Marines, marriage and kids. Mostly I'm just getting old.” Kid laughed at that. Frank smiled.

“My nose is a bit crooked. Got hit a bit too much.”

“Enemy combatants?” Kid asked a bit too interested and Frank was not heading that way for several reasons.

“Nah. I was dumb. Got into a few fights, lost some, won some.”

“You won't win against my dad.”

“Give me time. I'll get back into shape.”

“You'll still lose. My dad is a good boxer.”

“My dad is better than you.” He sing songed then made a go on gesture. “Anything else or are you all nose and a big mouth?” Frank laughed.

“No. Okay let me finish.” He tried to keep the tone light and was a bit exaggerating in describing himself but think it worked out. Kid was relaxed and happy by the time he finished. Good. His burger was half cold when he finished but didn't care too much.

Their conversation was light but Frank kept in mind his aim. He needed to know if the kid knew more about the chemical accident. If Frank was going to pursue it he needed to know all he could. Still it didn't seem like the right time to press. Kid was good and didn't seem to be suffering any sensory issues that Jack had mentioned.

He didn't kno w if it could be triggered by stress but he wanted to avoid it. There would be time enough for that later he thought. It wasn’t the most entertaining few hours but they had dinner, dessert and Matt was drinking a milkshake when his dad returned, a split on his right eyebrow but he didn’t seem to notice.

Kid greeted Jack with genuine enthusiasm and Frank felt his throat tighten for the briefest of seconds. He’d get his own justice and then maybe this one or die trying. He thought sternly. The thought was pushed away as Jack thanked him. Frank waved him off again.

Matt handed Jack his money back and Jack gave him this particular look. Frank wasn’t sure what he was thinking but didn’t say anything.

“You hungry, dad?” Matt asked as he returned to his drink. Kid had at least half a glass to drink.

“I’m fine, Matty.” Frank sat across from them. It felt awkward to just leave. “Thanks again for watching, Matt.” Jack said.

“Again, no problem. Kid was good company.”

“Yeah. I like Frank. He wasn’t boring.” Matt replied and then added. “Mrs. Cortes is boring.”

“Matt! Be nice.” Jack said with no actual venom, just exasperation. Matt smirked. Kid was trying to get a rise out of his dad.

“Well, at least I can die knowing I’m not as boring as Mrs. Cortes.” Frank added dryly. Jack laughed lightly. Kid grinned and kept drinking. They stayed until the kid finished, Jack ordered something to go, hunger having caught up to him during their wait.

Jack and Frank made plans to meet again.

Frank and Suicide

(Anonymous) 2016-05-29 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
In the 2004 Punisher movie, Frank was a finger twitch away from committing suicide.

Does the MCU Frank even contemplate it? And if he does, what (or who) stops him?

Daredevil finds a way to get rid of every bad guy in Hell's kitchen only to give the City to Wilson Fisk.

How will everyone react to this?

Gimme the feels and big speeches. The heartbreaks and reasons of why this happened.

Re: Frank and Suicide

(Anonymous) 2016-05-29 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
Probably. When he first wakes up it isnt a consideration because his entire world has been pared down. Survive, find them, kill them, keep moving,
But after he's revenged his family and decided that rebuilding a normal life isnt an option, yeah, once he's finished that head of steam and he cant shake the bone-deep weariness... He might consider walking into a mob family reunion with an explosive vest on, pr just putting a gun in his mouth and getting it over with without the charade

(So basically yes, the same idea as the movie but with shoddier english usage)

Re: Frank and Suicide

(Anonymous) 2016-05-29 09:49 am (UTC)(link)
..is it weird that I want it to be Matt? With a lot of squirmy complicated feels about if letting somebody kill themselves (when you could stop them) is the same as killing them (what would Father Lanton say, Matt?!) if it wouldn't be better if Frank were dead, if to walk away or sit with him and talk, etc etc. I mean, he must know he can't stop Frank, but he might feel compelled to talk him out of it?

Sorry. Didn't mean to hijack this to make it all about Matt. I just really like Frank and Matt's rooftop conversations and sort of reluctant kinship/friendship. And I'm picturing Frank's weary disbelief of "YOU don't want me to do this?"

[FILL] Forced to live together (matt/foggy) [3/?]

(Anonymous) 2016-05-29 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
a/n: I did some reworking of the timeline and the previous two parts now take place on Friday night rather than $RANDOM_WEEKDAY as previously stated. So if things don't all jive together, that's why. Eventually this will all be cleaned up and posted to AO3 including corrections, but until then, I trust you can use your imaginations! :)

--

Morning showed its stupid face far earlier than Foggy would have liked. After five days of putting in ten and twelve hour days at the office, he preferred to use Saturday mornings for catching up on the week's sleep deficit. But between his nascent hangover and the frankly bizarre circumstances of the night before, he couldn't seem to turn off his brain and go back to sleep.

With a heavy sigh he left the warm cocoon of his blankets and padded into the living room, regretting again his decision not to take an Advil the night before. It looked empty, and for a moment, he was certain that last night had been a bad dream. Irritation mingled with relief when Matt sat up, eyes bleary as he tilted his head to get a read on Foggy's location.

"How'd you sleep?" he asked, heading straight for the coffee maker and the bottle of ibuprofen sitting out next to it. Foggy was going to need a lot of caffeine to make it through today; might as well start early.

"I didn't." Matt stood up and made his way into the kitchen, probably following Foggy's voice and the smell of coffee grounds. He leaned against the counter, looking way better in Foggy's worn Columbia tee shirt and sweatpants than Foggy ever had, and Foggy had to force himself to look away from the bare strip of skin between them. "Your couch smells funny."

"Well, it's brand new," Foggy shot back, nudging Matt aside with his hip to fill the carafe at the sink. "Probably has some warehouse stink still on it." He poured it into the coffee maker and pressed the button. "I'm going to shower. You wanna use the bathroom first?"

Matt ran a hand through his already messy hair as he nodded. "Yeah. You'll be stuck in here while I do though."

Foggy sighed heavily. "Oh, man, were you locked out after I went to bed?"

Matt shrugged. "It wasn't a big deal."

"Right, being mystically locked out of the bathroom is just another normal day for you."

Matt snorted. "No, this is definitely weird." He reached for Foggy's arm, but stopped himself before he made contact, pulling his hand back in a move that would have looked natural to anyone who knew him less well. "I'll be right back."

While Matt was in the bathroom, Foggy tried the front door of his apartment. Like Matt had said the night before, he couldn't turn the knob no matter how hard he tried. The resistance wasn't physical, and it felt very different than trying to force a locked door; it was as if his wrist simply stopped working. He sighed and let his forehead thunk against the solid wood.

When he heard the toilet flush, Foggy made his way back to the kitchenette, pulling down two coffee mugs from his cabinet. He added a splash of half and half to one and a spoonful of sugar to the other, knowing Matt would be able to tell which was his by the clink of the spoon he left inside. "Coffee will be ready in a couple of minutes," he said. "Help yourself," he added, sidestepping Matt as he headed to the bathroom. "I'll be out in a bit."

He stripped out of his pajamas and turned the water on high. Normally, especially on a lazy weekend morning, Foggy would take his time in the shower, letting the conditioner soak into his hair while he shaved, then jerking off to the thought of a nonspecific fantasy partner (who, yes, usually happened to have dark hair and gorgeous red lips, so sue him, he had A Type). Today, though, he washed as quickly as possible, not letting his hands linger even an extra second on his dick. He didn't bother to shave--it wasn't like Matt would notice--and left the bathroom door open when he went to his room to pull on a pair of worn jeans and a tee shirt.

By the time Foggy came back into the kitchen, Matt had made his way to the small dining table at the end of the kitchenette, and was cradling his mug in both hands. "How's the coffee?"

Matt shrugged, but his mouth twitched up in a half-smile. "It's good. Better than Starbucks."

Foggy huffed out a laugh. "High praise from you." He sighed and picked up his own mug. Matt had filled it with coffee while he was in the shower, so it was cool enough to drink but still pleasantly warm. The familiar gesture made something in his chest tighten, and he let himself pretend things were back to normal between them for just a moment before shoving the fantasy away.

He settled himself in the chair opposite Matt. "Listen, we need to figure out how this," he paused and waved his hand in the air, "thing works, and how to fix it. Hopefully sooner rather than later because I can't just call into work Monday saying 'Sorry, Jeri, I can't leave my apartment because Daredevil cast a spell on me.' And I'm definitely not going to tag along with your night job."

Matt opened his mouth to answer, but stopped short and tilted his head. "Your phone is ringing."

Foggy sighed heavily. Now that Matt had mentioned it, he could hear the ringing, tinny and muffled by the wall between his bedroom and living room. "It's probably Jeri. Speak of the devil and he shall appear, right?"

Matt choked on his coffee, and Foggy frowned. "You okay?"

Coughing, Matt waved him off. "Fine, just-- Fine. Go answer your phone."

Foggy hesitated a second longer but decided to take Matt at his word, and headed for his bedroom. His phone sat on the bedside table, and Foggy managed to grab it before it vibrated itself right onto the floor. It wasn't Jeri, but it was definitely work. "Franklin Nelson," he said.

"Oh thank god," the woman on the other end said. "Mr. Nelson, this is Becca Calusky. My husband--he's back."

"Okay," he said, voice pitched low to attempt to soothe her rattled nerves as he pinned the phone between his shoulder and ear. "Becca, have you called the police?"

She huffed out a humorless laugh. "You and I both know he isn't doing anything illegal. He's well within his rights to sit on a public bench in a public space. And the last two times he sat there, the cops said he was far enough away that he wasn't actually violating the restraining order."

Foggy sighed. "I know that, Becca, but filing reports will put these incidents on the record. If we can show the court that he's using these actions to intimidate you, we can get him for a violation even if he's obeying the letter of the law."

She didn't answer right away. "You know I haven't had the best … experience with the cops," she said, finally. "It was hard enough getting the restraining order in the first place. If I call them for every little thing, what if I really need them some time?"

She wasn't wrong, and Foggy knew it. It had been hard enough to get the TRO with no evidence of physical assault; he'd had to argue hard that Becca's position as a witness in Ricky's upcoming retrial and the obvious stalking was enough. He pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to formulate a plan. "Okay, how about this. I'll come over to your apartment, and we'll call the police together. We'll make the report, and then I'll talk to your husband, see if we can't work this out."

Becca let out a shuddering sigh. "You'd do that? For me?"

"Of course," Foggy said, heart aching for her. She was a good person who'd made a few mistakes, but she didn't deserve to have them ruin her life. "You should be safe in your own home, Becca, and I'm going to do my part to make sure you are. Now, tell me your address, and I'll be there as soon as I can. Don't leave, not for any reason."

After he'd written down her address and said goodbye, he allowed himself a heavy sigh before standing up and changing into a casual button-down shirt. Matt was still sitting at the table, trying--and failing--to look like he hadn't been eavesdropping. Foggy rolled his eyes. "How much of that did you hear?"

After a moment's hesitation, he shrugged. "All of it."

Foggy picked up his coffee mug and drained the now-cold dregs. "Well," he said after a moment of indecision, "how do you feel about a field trip? I'll buy you breakfast after."

Matt's pleased smile nearly lit up the room. "I'd like that."

I love everything about this because tbh that's where they were headed.

(Did you have any plans about what exactly was wrong with Frank or how you wanted it to turn out?)

Re: Matt & Frank - Matt confronted with not being sure Frank is the enemy

(Anonymous) 2016-05-29 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I was thinking severe concussion but at the time Matt doesn't know it isn't permanent/related to Frank's existing brain damage. So he also confronts the idea that yeah, realistically there's a whole bunch of people he's done this to, which is a lot harder to ignore/rationalise when you see if happen in front of you to your sort-of-ally.

I vaguely pictured Matt ends up defending him from the bad guys and maybe reluctantly taking him home? Or to some other safehouse? Furiously wishing Frank would start snarking at him again instead of stumbling and muttering garbled nonsense. IDK I hadn't really thought much further I was mostly rolling around in the idea of Matt's angst and reluctant caretaking

Re: Frank and Suicide

(Anonymous) 2016-05-29 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Prompt OP--don't worry about hijacking. I like seeing what a base idea can lead to. But, I actually was thinking about Matt for the "who", especially since it is pretty much comic book canon that Matt deals with depression, so maybe Matt could relate to those feelings, since who's to say he hasn't had those thoughts as well?

Re: Frank and Suicide

(Anonymous) 2016-05-29 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Depending on the storyline, Frank was suicidal in the comics as well. Or, at the very least, uninterested in his own safety. So I could definitely see this happening. I may take a crack at this because I'm trash for good angst.
