I wonder if Damian and Matt would have banter with one another since Damian is a little shit. This is an awesome idea you have here!

Maybe if you think about the deeper messages that you get from your religion and internalize? Apparently (some) Catholics really internalize the guilt-sin cycle, which is a theme that comes up a lot in various Daredevil media. But as an atheist (...more or less), I don't know what lessons people internalize from other religions.

Matt, as Matt, is going about his lawyery self one day well all of a sudden he feels an all too familiar pain of a knife sliding into his flesh. It's a random incident.

Now he had to go to the hospital and try to explain that no, he didn't know his stabber. No he will not explain his other scars or stab wounds.

It's...suspicious to say the least.

So Matt used to be That Guy. You know, alien guy. While he wasn't searching the skies kind of thing or into crazy therories, he did subscribe to SETI news and kept track of alien investigation research. He learned to keep quiet about it because not only was he the Blind Guy (TM) he was the Blind Crazy Guy to a lot of people.

Then New York got invaded/attacked.

While Matt wasn't exactly yelling "IN YOUR FACE" he did receive some satisfaction in knowing that he was right. Bring him his tin foil please. (Okay he doesn't need that).

Just give me people reaction to learning that Matt (pre alien confirmation) was a believer (X Files theme) or that he was one before the invasion.

Would you believe it kind of came to me in a dream yesterday? Life is so weird. :)

As soon as I read the title I was like FOX MULDER AND X FILES and then I got to the end and was like yessssss.

I mean, I'm not like Mulder, but honestly, the universe is so vast and unimaginably huge that I can't believe we're alone.

(There was a comic where Matt defended an alien, or something. It involved college flashbacks to him making a speech or something. AKA there's proof and everything.)

It always surprises me how people around here think that being Catholic means being miserable and feeling guilty over nothing. I live in a place where you could pick a random person on the street, and you have like, over 90% of a chance that they were raised Catholic. We're normal people. I never considered guilt a thing in Catholicism, wouldn't even occur to me before I read it out here. Sure, Catholicism teaches we're all sinful, it's hardly untrue. Every atheist on the planet knows nobody is perfect, too.

Matt feels guilty a lot because the kind of life he lives takes circumstances to the extreme. I'm sure most of us would feel guilty if we failed to save someone, or if someone had gotten killed just to get our attention, or if we caught ourselves considering a murder.

So. Yeah. Just saying.

Yes, but Matt's own way of manifesting his guilt is very 'fucked-up Catholic'. He could also work well as a Baptist or another variety of Christian, I think, but it would be fascinating to see someone do him well as a member of another religion.

Maybe not really? since it's a defenders prompt so it should focus on the main four. There's probably other prompts for support characters.

Dexter has his Thing about always wanting to Make Friends With People Who Understand, he'd be kind of a cute/weird/overeager nerd about it tbh. And Frank might have a kneejerk 'no we're not the same' at first, because he's a soldier, not a serial killer, but like...the way he talks about 'the things that fix us' and even more the way he talks about his eternal war in the comics, it does seem like kind of a similar need, even if he came by differently. And I can certainly see him sympathizing with wanting to keep his family. I think they'd have a rocky start but actually maybe settle into something like actual friends, and it'd be good for both of them to have another human connection. (And for Frank to maybe get influenced by the bit of Dexter's code that says Pick Targets The Police CAN'T get/keep, instead of just assuming all police are pointless.)

I think Dexter would fanboy all over Frank like a better-looking Deadpool and Frank would be like: "We're not fucking alike and I don't want to know you. *sigh* You wouldn't have any leads on the mob, would you?

If we go with the Thomas Jane movie continuity they could actually know each other from a case Frank worked on before his family died. And then needs someone to do some lab work and remembers that Morgan guy for whatever reason.

Never said he wasn't affected by his faith. Although running around as a vigilante is not a standard Catholic reaction. Going to church to talk about about it, sure, but that's not all that fucked up.

Matt is under some sort of mystical or alien induced slumber. The solutions of he other heroes is to enter his mind and bring him out. It's been done before so while not easy it's not impossible.

So select heroes enter and are automatically thrown out of game because Matt's memories aren't fill of sight. There is not visual cues for them, no metaphorical incantation of a path. Matt's mind is black, pitch black.

There is however a cacophony of sound, smell, touch and taste mixed and calling to them.

If they finally encounter a visual cue it's not quite right. Something is off about it. Like a picture kept in light too long.

Someone (Foggy, Claire, or Karen) has to try and deal with a sleepwalking Matt. Whether he thinks he's trying to fight bad guys, or make it to the kitchen to wait for his dad to come home, or something else ... All up to you. Gen or shippy is great.

"You know them?" Morgan asked. Frank rubbed the back of his neck embarrassed.

"Yeah. They're my defense lawyers."

"And the blind guy?"

"He's blind like can't see anything blind. Just noticed us."

"How?"

"Hell if I know."

"Will they say anything?"

"Probably not."

"Ah, those kind of lawyers."

"Nah, nothing like that. They're good guys but look New York is weird."

He watched Nelson shoot them a death glare before literally pushing Red into the water to swim. Glasses quickly stuffed in an embarrassing fannypack.

Question to all - what could Melvin be guilty of? Ideas?

Helping Fisk? The legal defense would be he was under duress, definitely. Maybe hurting someone who was breaking into his workspace beyond what was reasonable? Owning a gun without a permit?

It was a boy and a girl. Their eyes were serious and something about them haunted. The boy winced as he stood. Matt went on edge as Stick came in behind him. Elektra made a play for her knives but didn't pull them out.

"Who are you?" He demanded. Stick pushed him back and Matt wondered if they were going to fight children. No instead he walked over to them and said.

"You're hurt."

"Yes." The boy replied. Matt and Elektra relaxed, minutely. More of Stick's proteges then. Something was off though. They just couldn't quite place it.

"What happened? I told you to stay. I'd come back for you."

The girl spoke next. "We did. Then Master Stone came and said he'd continue our training. You never said you'd do this to us!" The girl yelled. "We trusted you and you were going to-"

"Never!" Stick yelled. "I never would've done it and I never have. I dropped students and moved them around before I finally was high enough to put my foot down." he pointed at Matt and Elektra.

"Ask them. Ask them if I ever made even the suggestion of it." The girl and boy looked at them. Matt felt the stare.

"What happened?" He asked, unsure. The boy was hurt, that was true, but Matt couldn't quite tell where. Elektra nodded.

"I don't know either. What happened?"

"They raped them." Stick said. Matt and Elektra jumped back in shock.

"What?"

"They raped them. Probably held them down and told them to fight. It's part of training."

"You never-"

"Is that why you left?" Stick laughed.

"No and Yes."

"Elly, you were my star pupil. I had trained students for decades, never touching a single one and then you were found out. I killed the other instructor and hid you It set me back a bit but I never touched you did I?"

"No. I didn't even think about that at that point. It didnt' cross my mind."

"Good." Stick said and laughed bitterly. He motioned to Matt.

"Then I trained you Matty. I found you after Elektra and I was in deep shit. The clean up and mess of finding lost students- it wasn't a good time for me but I thought I could handle it."

"That's why ou left?"

"I left because they wanted me to rape you. Train you like they had me. Hold you down until you don't cry even though it hurts and you can smell the bleeding. You were soft. I wasn't going to, I was even going to lie but then you gave me that damn bracelet. I couldn't even tell you to lie. You were a child. Not even a soldier despite my training.

"And now this?" He motioned to the children. "I'm going to kill them for it."

The boy and girl stared. "You weren't going to hurt us like that?" the boy asked.

"No. I don't train my students like that. It doesn't help. I went through it. I know." He shook his head. "Matt I need you to take care of them. Take them to that pretty nurse of yours. Get them help."

"And me?"

"Stay." Stick said. "I need to do this alone. It's time that we made some changes to the Hand." With that he left. Matt felt a sick and angered but didn't follow. These children needed help and he could get them to it. Elektra walked to them slowly.
