OP here!

Holy shit, that was awesome! It was exactly what I wanted. I loved how the style kept you in the dark about some of the most gut-wrenching details while still letting you know exactly what had happened practically from the beginning. Kudos to you, nonny!

I have to say, if you're at all interested, I would be very happy to see a version covering the aftermath from Frank's point of view. Given the intense amount of self-loathing he seems to be expressing even while he's under Killgrave's influence ("He's a good guy, still believes in the best of people, despite everything, despite knowing me... not everyone's worth saving... some people are beyond that.") that I bet realizing what he had done to his "only friend" would be a really terrible thing. Especially if he remembers that it was HIS idea... But if you don't want to do it, there's no pressure. I'm totally happy with what I've already got. :)

Re: Fill: 3/? Foggy has a run in with an alternative version of Daredevil

(Anonymous) 2015-08-09 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Karen Page loved watching children play. It let her believe that once upon a time, a very long time ago, she’d been innocent too. She sat on a bench and watched as 4 children all between about 5 years and 10 years old ran around, climbing over the playground equipment. A tiny blonde girl ran across the playground and an older boy shoved her from behind. She fell and skinned her knee, as she started to cry a woman (presumably her mother) scooped her up and carried her over to the gaggle of women gathered round a bench on the other side of the park. The girl glared at the boy who had already forgotten her, now swinging off the climbing frame with his friends. Important lesson for a young girl, Karen thought to herself. They never remember what they did.

“Ice-cream for your thoughts,” said Matt Murdock holding out an ice cream.

She smiled at him even though he couldn’t see it. She trusted he could sense it somehow. Besides it was easier to keep your heartbeat steady if you could trick yourself into feeling this things Murdock expected you to feel. “Mint-choc chip?” she asked pleasantly.

“So the shopkeeper told me,” said Murdock with a smirk. “Let me know if she lied. I haven’t sued anyone for discrimination for a while; I like to keep my hand in.”

Murdock sat next to her. Karen’s ice cream was indeed mint-choc chip, which Murdock would have been able to smell all long, Murdock had strawberry. “I don’t think ex-cons make good witnesses,” she said bitterly.

“How is life on the outside? It’s been what, a month?” asked Murdock. As if he didn’t know down to the minute how long she’d been out. “How is the apartment?”

“It’s perfect,” said Karen making herself be genuinely grateful. “Thank you, Matt.”

Murdock smiled, if you didn’t know him you’d think he was just pleased to be helpful. “I’m glad, I owe you a lot, Karen.” Sincere and thoughtful and everything Karen fell in love with. Now she knows better, but she makes herself smile back, leans into that flutter of attraction he can still spark in her. Allows herself to blush lightly and turn her face away. When lying to Murdock, you have to commit.

“So, tell me about your pet Nelson?” she asked.

Murdock chuckled. “He dropped out of the sky, literally. Nobu’s people seem to think he’s from some kind of parallel universe. He’s younger than our Nelson, and far more trusting. Hopelessly in love with his universe’s version of me, which is useful, as I’m sure you can imagine.”

Karen couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for the guy. Falling in love with Matt Murdock had been the worst mistake of her life. And she had a lot of mistakes to choose from. She’d been so in love with Murdock she’d killed Wesley for him without a second though, allowing Murdock to move up the ranks within the Kingpin’s organisation. At the time she’d thought she’d saved him, but soon she realised that Murdock could have easily killed Wesley himself, or got one of his tame ninja’s to do it for him. Murdock didn’t like to use the same methods all the time. He liked options. But once Karen had learned all this it was too late, she was in too deep. Now she was just another cog in the city-wide machine Murdock was running. Even in prison Karen had been useful, getting to people and putting the fear of Murdock in them. Murdock looked after her, the same way you’d look after a particularly useful tool.

“But I fear Nelson is a long term project,” said Murdock with a sigh. “He’s clever, and turning him will take some time. Your revenge on our Nelson will have to wait. In meantime I have something to keep you busy.”

“After all idle hands do the devil’s work,” said Karen chuckling and managing to keep the bitterness out of her voice, and hopefully her heartbeat and breathing too.

“So does that make me the Devil, or am I saving you?” asked Murdock raising an eyebrow with unbearable amusement.

“What’s the job?” asked Karen, not trusting herself to answer the question.

“A senator is refusing to vote our way. He needs to be removed.” Murdock passed her a sealed envelope. “Not fatally. Just a hint of scandal should do it. Something nice and juicy. I’ll leave the details to you; you have a beautiful creative streak.”

Karen slipped the envelope into her bag, she’d read it later. Maybe give Ben Ulric a call, see if he had any dirt she could build on. That was easier than trying to manufacture something out of whole cloth. Murdock’s phone buzzed in his pocket. He read the text message and smirked.

“It seems my ‘pet Nelson’ is out stretching his legs,” he said.

“Is it wise having him roaming the city?” asked Karen making herself sound bored.

“Nobu is tailing him,” said Murdock. “Besides the illusion of freedom is a powerful tool. He’s just checking out the area. Probably seeing what matches to his world and what’s different. He did the same with me, seeing where I was like ‘his’ Matt and where I wasn’t. Like I said, he’s clever. He’ll come back; he has no money and nowhere to go, and no reason not to trust me. If he decides otherwise Nobu will bring him back.”

“You have all the angles covered don’t you?” said Karen with an impressed look she tried really hard to feel.

“Always,” said Murdock with a smirk. He knew exactly how trapped she was. “Anyway, I must be going. You know, I really did miss you, Karen.”

They both stood and hugged, going in separate directions. As Karen left the park there was a scream and a shouting. She turned to see that the little girl had sunk her teeth into the leg of the boy who’d pushed her earlier. There was a hell of a commotion and parents shouting. The boy was crying. The girl looked incredibly pleased with herself until the adults got closer, and then she started to cry too, looking at her mother, pouring out big heartrending sobs. Karen smiled. There was always a way to get your own back. You just had to wait for the right time.

OP and this is so great. When prompting I had just though of some brutal dark version that roughs Foggy up a bit (or a lot) but a Matt who is still charming but also deliciously evil is just glorious (and probably on the long run so much more traumatizing for Foggy)

I'm really glad you like it! There will be some good old fashioned violence at some point, but the whole thing ran away with me a bit... oops.

I'm glad this worked for you, OP! There's an improved and cleaned-up version on AO3, if you're interested: http://archiveofourown.org/works/4533957

I'll--think about it. I have a long list of fics to write, but who knows, maybe!

This is so, so good, but oh my god. *hides behind hands* I can see the trainwreck coming, it's going to be horrible but - inevitable? I can't look away.

I was so glad Jess popped up again. I don't even know the character that well, but I still gave a little cheer when she made another appearance. And Karen being observant and smart and a lttle fed up with the drama but still concerned was spot on.

And Foggy. Oh, Foggy. I love that for all the rage he feels, he's still going about things his way. And the bit about how he and Matt never actually talked about their issues, just moved on and tried to put it behind them? Yeah. Ouch, but also believable, considering everything.

(And just as a style note, I loved how you broke up the passages where Foggy thinks about how to track down Stick. It was really effective in showing how the new trains of thought were occurring to him.)

Absolutely loving this fic, even though I know it's going to stab me in the heart. (Multiple times, I can tell.) Thank you for writing this!

Sidenote: is this fic going to stay gen, or will it get shippy down the line? Personally, I'm good with it either way - I just like setting my expectations on the right track. :)

New favourite headcanon.

("Why are you still watching it if you hate it that much?"

"BECAUSE HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU GET EPIC FANTASY NOVELS ADAPTED NOT TO SOME LESS THAN TWO HOUR MOVIE THAT CUTS OUT ALMOST EVERYTHING BUT TO A WHOLE TV-SERIES! ONE SEASON PER BOOK! ABOUT TEN HOURS FOR A BOOK MATT!"
And then he sobs "But they still messed EVERYTHING. WHY?")

OP again. I love Tony's failure at basic communication. I will give my friend gifts to worm my way into their good graces (but their BUGGED). I will give my family ALL THE OFFICE SUPPLIES!

Poor Matt, he must have loved Angry Birds but invasion of privacy > destroying fictional pigs.

Author here. So I just realised the mistake I made in this chapter. "He read the text message and smirked" No he didn't. That blind character did not read a text message. *headdesk* I'm really sorry people.

Instead it should say - "He listened to a voicemail message and smirked"

Sorry.

I don't know if this is what you wanted but I hope it works. Title is the name of a baby hawk, specifically one taken from its nest at a very young age - I think you'll see why I think it fits.

'Seriously. Fuck Hydra and their mad science division. What the hell kind of use does this stupid gun have anyway?' There's a smattering of agreement over the comms from the Avengers still able to fight and beside Clint, Daredevil even cracks a smile. Which huh. That's an odd look on him.

'Barton, head in the game.' Steve sounds exactly as he normally does, despite being hit with the ray that possibly deages you. It's kinda hard to hell right now. They know it has some effect because Thor got hit and now he's a screaming, terrified baby left in Bruce's care (because no one wants to risk the gun making Bruce a toddler Hulk. All that destructive ability and two year old tantrums...) but none of the three others hit have shown any signs of babyhood. Steve looks exactly the same; Tony doesn't sound any different though there's a note of confusion in his voice and Clint... well.

Clint's sure he's younger; his body seems to lack a lot of the muscle memory he's built into it along with most of the scars and aches. But his voice is definitely still broken and he's the same height so he's no child. If he had to guess he'd say he's no younger than eighteen but there's no one with eyes on him bar Daredevil, who claims to be bad at guessing ages from the way people look. Clint's going to have to wait until they get off this roof to figure out what's happened to him.

All of which makes this ray gun's effects a damned mystery and they have to shut it - and the Hydra grunt with a grudge - down before he decides he's had enough of firing it at the Avengers and goes after the people of Hell's Kitchen. There's still four of them plus the neighbourhood's 'friendly' vigilante - who rocked up just after baby Thor started screaming - and surely that should be enough to put this guy down.

If they can just find him. He keeps popping up, firing one shot and then vanishing. It's maddening.

'My head is in the game. Anyone got eyes on him?'

'No sign of him up here. I think he's got some kind of heat shield. It's blocking JARVIS' sensors. I want that, by the way. Dibs.' Clint rolls his eyes. Like anyone else would want tech that's not been deconstructed and reconstructed by Tony.

Beside Clint, Daredevil pauses. 'Someone's climbing up the fire escape. Building behind us.' Clint turns but there's no one there.

He still draws his bow. Daredevil sounds so sure. 'Alert,' he says to his comm softly and all chatter cuts out. There's still nothing there but Daredevil is moving across the roof; tracking something.

Then a patch of sky on the other roof blurs and a man - the Hydra grunt - is standing there, stupid gun in hand. He manages to fire once before Clint's tranquillised arrow is buried in his neck. It's a fast attacking drug so he gets two steps in and then falls to his knees.

It's about then a kid starts to scream beside Clint.

Started, Clint turns to look at Daredevil and- Oh shit. There's a kid there, practically swimming in the vigilante's costume and he's crying.

'Dad! Dad! I can't see. Dad, please I can't see! Dad! DADDY. DADDY!' the kid cries and shit Clint's not sure he's the one to be handling this. 'DADDY!'

But he's all that's here. With a quick check that the Hydra nut is down; Clint races to the kid's side. 'Hey, kid. Shh, it's okay. We'll find your Dad soon, promise.' He runs a hand over Daredevil's side and the kid jerks. 'And look, if I just lift this up, you can-'

Clint cuts off as the kid's blank eyes fail to meet his. The area around them is inflamed and all puffy; like something has been spilt on them. The kid can't see.

'I can't see! Please, I want my Dad. He was just here. Dad! DAD! DADDY! I can't see! Daddy please, help!' There's something off in the kid's breathing; he's definitely either on his way to a panic attack or in shock. Clint does the only thing he can think of.

He pulls the kid into a hug, trying to make him as secure as possible. 'Shh, it's okay. You're alright. Come on kid, you're alright. Breath with me, in and out. In and out. We'll find your Dad just breath.' The kid hiccups but there's something of a change in his breathing. 'Breath for a count of five. I'll count. One. Two. Three. Four. Five.' The kid exhales and it's shaky but better. 'And in, two, three, four, five.' They keep this up for a long minute but finally the kid doesn't sound like he's completely losing it.

He's still shaking though and probably crying - Clint can't tell with all the inflammation around his eyes - so he's probably panicking still. Okay, distraction time.

'You got a name kid?'

'Matt. Matt Murdock.' A small part of Clint jumps for joy at finally getting Daredevil's identity but it's quickly swallowed by the rest of him that's horrified at what's happening here. Whatever the hell it is.

'Okay Matt. Keep breathing, and I'm going to call someone. We'll find your Dad, promise. And see if we can help you see.' Matt nods, and there's a hitch in his breathing but he starts on the breathing again.

Clint taps at his comm. 'How much of that did you get?'

'Mostly the screaming.' Steve admits. 'We're on our way. Threat neutralised?'

'He's out for the count. And I need you to start looking for a Matt Murdock. Find his Dad, ASAP.'

'I'm already on it,' Tony says.

Clint looks down at the still terrified Matt. 'Okay Matt, we're looking for your Dad. In the meantime, I'm going to take you somewhere safe.' Matt starts to panic again so Clint hurriedly adds, 'I promise your Dad will be right there but we've gotta get you to a doctor. He'll fix you.'

'Promise?' Matt's voice is small but full of trust.

But Clint knows better than to make promises; especially with the thought that's been nagging at him since this all started. 'He'll try as hard as he can.'

********

'Matthew Murdock, Hell's Kitchen local. Lawyer and local hero after he was blinded at the age of nine saving the life of an old man,' Tony reads out. He's definitely younger now than he was this morning but it's barely noticeable. 'Which must be the age he is now.' Clint sighs and watches Bruce checking Matt over on the other side of the lab.

'There's gotta be a pattern.' Steve rubs at his forehead. 'A baby, nine, eighteen and maybe a few years younger for Tony and I. What's th-'

'Where's my Dad?' Matt yells at the suddenly visibly uncomfortable Bruce. 'I want my Dad. Dad! Dad! Dad, please!'

Clint's over there in a flash. 'Hey, Matt, it's me. Clint. Remember?'

Matt reaches out a hand and Clint guides it to his face. 'I... you said you'd find my Dad. Dad'll fix this.'

Oh the surety in his voice. 'What needs fixing?'

Even without his eyes, Matt manages to convey a look of 'how stupid are you'. 'I can't see!'

Bruce shakes his head. 'I'm sorry Matt; but it can't be helped. We'll do what we can but I think the damage is permanent.'

Matt's head suddenly turns towards Tony and Steve. 'No! NO! You're lying!' Clint startles at the anger and fear in Matt's voice. 'YOU'RE LYING!'

Tony looks startled. 'Kid, what do you mea-?'

'He's NOT dead; you're LYING.' Matt tries to jump off the table, for what Clint's not sure. Clint catches him and pulls him into a tight hug. 'Dad's not dead!'

Oh shit. Also Clint's vaguely impressed at the kid's hearing if he heard what must have been a whisper from the other side of the room. 'I got ya kid.'

Matt starts pounding at Clint, with surprisingly strong hits. 'He's NOT dead.'

Clint shakes his head. 'He might be kid. I'm sorry. He might be.'

With a loud sob, Matt starts crying into Clint's shoulder. Clint just rubs his back and glares at Tony and Steve. They leave; leaving him to hold Matt as he breaks down.

********

Two hours later and Clint's managed to get Matt into a bed and helped him take a sleeping pill. At least his injuries have disappeared; leaving him blind but physically okay. Whatever power the gun has, it's clearly not strong enough to make him relive those.

'We've got it,' Tony whispers as he and Natasha sneak into Clint's bedroom where Matt's sleeping. Clint's just keeping a watch out; like he promised. It's not like there's much else to do. He's still feeling out of sorts in a body that's way too young for him and anyway if he leaves this room he might end up like Steve and get sucked into babysitting Thor. For a tiny baby, Thor packs a punch.

'Got what?' Clint whispers back, looking up from Matt. Matt, who is clutching at Clint's hand in his sleep and twitching in fear every so often.

Tony takes a seat in the other chair Bruce had dragged in for Clint. 'The ages. We compared pictures of Steve from this morning to now and there is a difference. Only one a computer could pick up.' He waves the photos at Clint. 'Found a perfect match though, for his post-serum self. And I'm definitely looking the age I was when Iron Man started.'

That... doesn't make sense. 'What?'

Natasha rolls her eyes. 'Tony and Steve deaged to the age they were when they started being Iron Man and Captain America. And you're the age you were when you first started using the name Hawkeye.'

Clint nods in realisation as Tony continues, 'From what I can guess, the gun takes those of us without extraordinary abilities back to the moment we decided to be extraordinary anyway-'

'No modesty there,' Clint says with a smile.

'-and those of us with extraordinary abilities to the moment they got them.'

Everyone looks down at the sleeping Matt.

'Well shit,' Clint sums up. 'How long until you can fix this?'

'A couple of days.' Tony fiddles with the papers. 'Think you can handle that?'

'I'll manage.'

********

Clint will so not manage.

It's not that Matt is demanding or a little brat. If he was, Clint wouldn't have a problem. But he's not. Instead he's quiet and withdrawn and nearly constantly tearing up. Not that he cries though. He's just... stoic. And sombre. And every other synonym for absolutely fucking devastated that you can think of. Matt doesn't seem interested when they explain to him he's in the future. He barely eats the first day and spends a lot of it pretending to sleep.

Clint can tell the difference because when Matt is asleep, he calls for his Dad. He wakes up screaming 'I can't see' three times that night and Clint holds him through them all. After the third time, Clint just holds him while he sleeps.

On the second day Matt's business partner and apparent friend fast talks his way into the tower. The second this Foggy Nelson sees Matt he stiffens but then he's at this bedside in an instant.

'Hi Matt. My name's Foggy. Do you remember me?'

Matt shakes his head. 'I'm sorry.'

Foggy smiles softly. 'It's okay. I'm a friend of yours; of big you.'

'Did you know my Dad?' The delight in Matt's voice breaks Clint's heart.

'No. I'm sorry. We never met.'

Matt lowers his head. 'They said he was dead. In this future.'

With closed eyes Foggy sighs. 'I'm sorry Matt. He is.' Matt chokes on his next breath. 'I'm so sorry.'

'How?'

'He was a hero Matty.' Foggy gently pats Matt's hand. 'He'd just won a fight - a big one too - and everyone was cheering for him.'

'But Dad doesn't have any fights coming up. We're waiting for the right one; a good one.'

For a second Foggy looks thrown then he smiles. 'I know Matt. You get it too. The right fight. Only, there were some people mad that your Dad won. So they... they shot him. And he, he didn't make it.'

Matt's shaking his head. 'But it doesn't make sense.'

Clint steps in. 'I know kid-'

'Stop calling me that!' Matt screams and Clint nods.

'Okay Matt. I'm sorry.' With a sigh, Clint takes Matt's other hand. 'Remember what I said last night? About how this is the future?'

'It's an awful future,' Matt whines. 'Will I get to pick a better one, when I go back?'

Clint's sure he won't remember this. 'You can try k-Matt. All we can ever do is try. And I'm sure if someone could change the future, it'll be you.'

Matt gives him a small smile and Clint's heart melts. A small, selfish part of him, is going to miss this kid.

********

Tony manages to fix or reconstruct or reverse engineer the stupid ray gun the day after Foggy shows up. Clint's never been so grateful that Tony doesn't understand the concept of 'breaks' and 'sleep' like normal human beings do. While also being deeply saddened because it means Matt is going.

They fix Thor first as everyone is a bit tired of the ever demanding baby God of Thunder. It takes a moment and Thor goes from a small baby on a huge bed to a very big and naked man on a tiny bed that looks seconds from collapsing.

'How are you feeling Thor?'

'I feel relaxed and satisfied. My friends, you were great caregivers.'

'Glad you think so now,' Steve snarks, as the one who'd ended up caring for Thor the most. Bruce pokes at Thor and declares him perfectly healthy.

Which means it's Matt's turn. Clint helps him to the bed and steps back. He watches as Matt goes from the bewildered nine year old to a bewildered thirty year old in the blink of an eye. Foggy's by his side in an instant; with a blanket to wrap round him.

'Matt, you okay?'

Matt blinks but nods. 'I, ah. Think so?' He turns his head in the team's direction. 'Thank you?' he says, with slowly reddening cheeks.

Tony bows. 'You're welcome Lucifer. Now move it, it's my turn.'

Foggy leads Matt out but Matt makes him stop beside Clint. 'Clint?' he says hesitantly. In his voice Clint can hear everything that's running through his head too; the uncertainty of where they stand and a sense of loss. But maybe they can have something else. Maybe... friendship as adults?

'Don't mention it.' Clint thinks for a moment then adds, 'Kid.'

Matt smirks. Yes, Clint can see himself as this man's friend. 'Call me that again and I'll kick your ass. I can do that now.'

'Is that a challenge? Because I'm sure I can totally take you.'

'Do it again and you can find out.' Matt pauses, then moves suddenly and hugs Clint. It's over in a second - before Clint can react - and Matt then lets Foggy lead him away.

Clint watches them go and smiles. He's going to miss the nine year old kid but he thinks he'll be glad to have Daredevil back. To have Matt.

FILL: Form CIV-GP-82 A

I actually legally changed my first name this past January, and writing about someone else doing it was surprisingly fun. Form CIV-GP-82 A is the NYC Petition for Individual Adult Change of Name.

The petition is surprisingly straight-forward. Maybe that’s why it takes until he gets the notification that his petition to proceed as a poor person, thus waiving the $65 filing fee, for it to really sink in that he’s legally changing his name to Foggy. It’s only a few days after he spent the afternoon in the Manhattan civil court and he’s thought about it, sure, but this is really the first time that he’s not thinking about this in abstract terms.

And he realizes that, just maybe, he’s in a little over his head.

Matt laughs when he tells him, the asshole. “How did you not think this through?” he asks. “Did you come up with this plan after a late night at Josie’s?”

“Of course not,” Foggy says. He’s a little insulted that Matt thinks he went ahead and did all of this while drunk. You don’t make it all the way through the filing process in the Manhattan civil court on a drunken whim. “Dave, from work, was making comments again, and I just…”

Something in Matt’s face softens as realization dawns on him. “Foggy, you can’t let him get to you,” he says. “Dave’s a dick to everyone, you know that.”

“I know that Matt,” Foggy snaps, and instantly feels bad for taking his frustrations out on his friend. “Sorry, sorry that wasn’t fair.”

“It’s fine, Foggy,” Matt says, but Foggy’s pretty sure he could punch his friend and Matt would still say that everything is fine so he’s never sure how much Matt means it. “There’s just one thing I’m still confused about. Are you freaking out because you don’t want to change your name, or because you’ve realized that you actually do?”

“I’m freaking out because I don’t know what I want!” Foggy groans and flops back down on Matt’s couch, covering his face with his arm. “I barely even remember that my legal name is Franklin these days, everyone I know just calls me Foggy. It would be so much easier to get it changed, but Dave’s right. Who would want to hire a lawyer named Foggy?”

“Screw Dave,” Matt says firmly. “Seriously, forget about him. What’s really stopping you?”

“What stopping me? What isn’t?” Foggy asks with a snort. “I’d have to change all my paperwork- everything on file at L & Z, all my student loan stuff and my diplomas and shit, my insurance, all of my legal identification and financial info… Shit, and I’d have to tell my entire family and you know my sister Candace would never let me live this down…”

“So don’t go through with it,” Matt says.

Foggy swallows harshly. “But I want to,” he admits softly. “I’m scared shitless but I still think I want to do this.”

“Then I’ll help you,” Matt says, as easily as if he was agreeing to help Foggy study for a final back at Columbia. “Seriously, we’ll make a list of everything that you need to do and I’ll go down to the court with you for your hearing and- oof!”

Foggy knocks the air out of Matt with the force of his hug, one that sends both of them stumbling back into one of Matt’s armchairs.

“You’re the best,” Foggy mutters against Matt’s neck. He’s not crying, but its damn close. “Seriously, thank you, I’d never go through with this on my own.”

“Sure you would,” Matt says, patting Foggy on the back. “You already did the hard part on your own, after all.”

Foggy just shakes his head and continues to hug his friend. “No, the hardest part is going to be telling my mom.” Matt winces at that and Foggy can’t help but dissolve into a fit of laughter.

He’s still scared shitless about the amount of work this is going to take, but he’ll get through this. With Matt, he’s pretty sure he could get through anything.

Extra bonus points if somebody pulls off a miracle and manages to make this somehow not based on racist tropes and not completely appropriative in the vein of Hollywood "white man is better samurai than all japanese" tradition.

Can't stop thinking of one of my friends. His official middle name was Patrick.

So one day at Church they had the kids write down their favorite Saint and why that was their favorite Saint. So he chose Saint Patrick.

Later there was this big event and the Priest was like "[firstname] Patrick ... Patrick [lastname]" He has double Patricks.

I have not stopped laughing about this since he told me.

Fill: 4/? Foggy has a run in with an alternative version of Daredevil

(Anonymous) 2015-08-09 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Foggy walked out of Murdock’s building. It has a huge skyscraper made of glass and metal. There was a sign outside that proudly pronounced it ‘The First New Build after the Battle of New York’ . That was different for a start. There was no building like this back home. As he walked around he noticed lots of things like that. A building that was there but wasn’t supposed to be, buildings that weren’t supposed to be there but were. He walked down as far as the neighbourhood where ‘Nelson and Murdock’ should be. But the whole area was full of new buildings. He guessed that in this world this neighbourhood didn’t escape the damage.

He’d borrowed enough money from Nobu that he could by a newspaper. The by-line with Ben Ulrich’s name on it made his heart stop for a second. He hoped this Ben was okay, was being careful. He wondered about Elena Cardenas. There was a story about Fisk being sentenced to solitary confinement. “The arc of the moral universe bends towards justice,” mumbled Foggy under his breath. The date of the paper was the same as back home but it was like events were a few years ahead. Murdock was older than Matt, and he’d said that Foggy was younger than his counterpart. The whole thing hurt his head.

He suddenly thought about the people he’d left behind. Were they worried about him? Jesus, he was 99% sure he’d been with Matt and Karen when he’d disappeared. They must be worried. Matt would be blaming himself, going crazy trying to find Foggy. Would there even be a trace? Would Matt even have any clue what had happened? He wouldn’t even have anyone to punch. Foggy didn’t have anything else he could do. He headed back to Murdock’s building. He needed to find out how to get back, and Murdock was the only person he knew with any clue how to do that.

Once he got back he took a shower, just to have something to do. There was now a tv in the room that hadn’t been there before. He turned on the local news. Captain America was giving a speech. But it was the wrong man. He had dark hair and a metal arm. He was talking about ‘the cost of the hero registration act’. It didn’t make any sense to Foggy, and he could feel pressure behind his eyes, like he wanted to cry. He channel surfed until he came across an old episode of ‘Friends’. Ironically one he’d seen a million times before. He left it running and curled up on top of the stupidly comfortable bed. He wasn’t going to cry, he felt to numb for that. He hadn’t really realised until now the enormity of what had happened to him.

He doesn’t know quite how long he was lying there. One episode of Friends blurred into another. There must have been some kind of marathon on. There was a knock at the door. Foggy got up to answer it, scrubbing at his face even though he hadn’t been crying. He opened the door to find Murdock on the other side.

“Just checking in,” he said with a smile. “How are you holding up?”

Foggy slumped against the doorframe. “I don’t think I’m in Kanas anymore,” he said quietly. But of course Murdock heard.

“Come on, Dorothy,” he said, taking Foggy’s arm and leading him towards the small sofa in front of the tv.

And Foggy knew this wasn’t Matt, but he sounded like Matt, he let himself forget, just for a little while. Murdock got Foggy settled on the sofa. “Have you eaten yet today?” he asked softly.

“I… no I don’t think I have,” said Foggy slowly, trying to remember.

“Well, what would you like?” asked Murdock smiling and right there.

“I don’t know,” said Foggy.

In the end Murdock got Nobu to bring up a selection of sandwiches. Foggy didn’t think he’d be able to eat anything but Murdock sat next to him on the sofa and was soon laughing at Foggy’s descriptions of what was happening at ‘Central Perk’. Foggy could help feeling better when he was shoulder to shoulder with Matt Murdock, even if it wasn’t quite the right Matt Murdock. Soon all the sandwiches were gone and Foggy felt a little more hopeful. Matt, or at least Murdock, would help him. Because he always did, and with Matt’s help he’d get back home.

Foggy yawned hugely and Murdock felt his watch. “I didn’t realise it was so late,” he said sounding genuinely surprised.

“That’s not like you, buddy,” said Foggy sleepily. “You’ve always had a great sense of time. Well… my you anyway.”

“No, it’s not like me. It’s a little disconcerting how well you know me,” said Murdock, standing up and pulling Foggy with him. “Come on, time for good Foggy’s to be asleep.”

“Ugh,” said Foggy as he let himself be pulled. “I was working on it until you made me move. Thanks, Murdock. For staying with me, I kinda needed that.”

“It was my pleasure,” said Murdock still sounding surprised. “Sleep well, Foggy.” He gave Foggy a gentle push towards the bed. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Foggy laughed and pulled Murdock into a hug. “You mean later today?”

Murdock stiffened in Foggy’s hold and Foggy let go quickly. “I’m sorry; I just, you’re so like Matt…”

“No, it’s okay,” said Murdock. “I just wasn’t expecting it. Well Good night.”

“Good night,” said Foggy. He watched Murdock leave. He had the sudden feeling that this was going to get complicated.

He wouldn’t even have anyone to punch.

Hah, is it bad that I laughed out loud at this line? Though now I'm thinking there's a very good chance that he'll end up punching Murdock, oh, that would be hilarious.

I wonder what alt!Foggy is like in this verse?

They're arguing it out and demanding a court order, meanwhile Karen lights a stack of files in a trashcan in the background and crosses her arms, staring Tony down.

Re: [gen or any/any] Leverage crossover

(Anonymous) 2015-08-09 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
They treated every season's finale as if it was their last, because due to weird ratings and cable contracts they never knew they were gonna be renewed or not for a long time. And they got to end the show how they wanted, believing it was probably their final episode. Which, you can tell, so many callbacks to the pilot in that series finale, a sense of finality but also that the team will go on in the future. And I think that's great.

Listening to the DVD commentaries and podcast, they did have a few other ideas for episodes, but to be honest, looking at Season 5, I think they were scraping a bit. I can't name a single bad episode in that whole show, which is an impressive feat I think. It remains my favorite show, ever.

I think we're always gonna have wanted more of it, because it was so good. But I think that's better than the alternative: years of declining quality as they scrambled for more ideas, like most shows do. What we have are five pretty much perfect seasons of television. I don't know if any other fandom can claim that kind of quality to content ratio.

And I mean, the same writers and showrunners are doing a show with the same network, one of the same actors, same basic team makeup (Mom & Dad and the Three Kids) now. The Librarians isn't amazing yet but I think they'll find their feet in Season 2 like Leverage did.
