matt and weather

(Anonymous) 2015-09-07 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
my brain is refusing to cooperate (i've been binge-watching the o.c + have subsequently forgotten how to function as a being capable of higher thinking) and i just want to ask what might be a completely obvious question.

weather. does it/would it conceivably mess with matt more because of his senses??
i live in australia and the summer heat can sometimes feel heavy and oppressive and i just got to thinking about matt and how he might be affected by different weather extremes/patterns.

I love you guys

I always think of this meme as being the best weekender bus ever, where everyone's just yelling the stuff they like and everyone else is just like "Yeah!" And even the more dangerous stuff will find someone to yell back.

You want to talk about the stuffed toys Karen can't do without? Yeah! You want to read about Matt literally dying because of a D/S scene that gets out of hand? I sort of do too! You want to see fanart of Foggy turning into a horse and giving everybody rides to work? Not my thing, but here's a link to something you might like!

I just love you guys.

It's that time again!

Anybody going to Alamo City Comic Con?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-08 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
Anybody going to Alamo City Comic Con?

Joe Bernthal's gonna be there with other actors from The Walking Dead.

I've been debating on going just for a day, just to see what's up. I've never been to a con before though and my bro and dad are totally flaking on me on whether they want to go or not.

OKAY just. a question.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-08 12:24 pm (UTC)(link)
say someone sticks a wand up someone else's nose, Harry Potter-style, and says a spell that releases a high-pressure stream of water from the tip of said wand, sort of like if you turn your hose up to the highest it can go.

would the victim's head swell and burst? what else might happen?

I'm sorry I'm gross.

looking for a fic

(Anonymous) 2015-09-08 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm also looking for the one where Matt and Dr Strange travelled into another universe and ran into MCU Matt and he kept freaking out. I'm not sure if it was ever put up on Ao3 tho.

Matt's body armour

(Anonymous) 2015-09-08 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
How does it work exactly? I mean is it basically a bullet-proof vest only a lot thinner because Marvel-Sci-Fi-Magic? So bullets wouldn't go through but the impact would still leave a bruise? Would it be the same with knife-attacks (if the knife hit him with enough force) or would that be absorbed completely? How about normal punches?

tl;dr: what kind of injuries will Matt still have once he's wearing the armour? What will he have less of? (What do the comics say on that subject?)

kinkmeme karma

(Anonymous) 2015-09-08 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes I wonder whom I royally pissed off for my kinkmeme karma to be so off. I've written fourteen fills in the last three months with a total word count of over 60,000. I've posted fifteen prompts, and only one of them ever got filled.

I mean, yeah, of course I get that this is just the way a kinkmeme works. And I get one out of fifteen isn't even such a bad ratio when you consider the total number of prompts posted and the percentage of those actually getting filled. And factor in the fact that there might not be a lot of overlap between the things I'd like to read in fanfic and the things that the active writers here want to explore.

Most of the time writing for prompts is a total win/win, and it's lovely and enjoyable and exciting, but it's happened quite a lot lately that I've written fills and the OP never even thanked me. Even those prompts where I posted a fill within a week or two of the prompt going up. And that's always a bit weird, because... did they not see the fill? Did they read it and not like it? Does my writing or storytelling suck?

I'm not gonna stop writing for the kinkmeme, because it's just way too much fun, but I guess I'm just saying it could be *more* fun if someone actually wrote me something back.

Ahem. [/end rant] Carry on.

Jessica Jones!

(Anonymous) 2015-09-08 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
So I just finished Alias and am working my way through The Pulse (but it's slow going because so far I'm not a huge fan of Jessica Jones Weeps and Cradles Her Belly: The Series), and can I just say I'm so stoked for the Netflix show? Somebody come talk to me about it, please!

Prompt Freeze? Wut? Already?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-09 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I have not read a single prompt from the latest round. (Okay, maybe I read the first like 5 way, way back when)

So I'm SUUUPPPERRR. Behind. I feel like I'll never catch up.

Would any nonnies link me to any prompts about Claire, Karen, Santino, Brett, Natasha, Steve, or Sam Wilson? I'm looking for prompts to add to my "to be filled one day hoard.)" and wading through all that Matt/Foggy isn't feasible for me right now. :)

Where is Matt getting his money?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-10 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
Nelson & Murdock are barely open, they have no money, Foggy talks about money to keep the lights on in the office, right? But I'm familiar with fashion and tailors and the suits Matt Murdock is wearing on the show are bespoke. At the very least he's wearing something made to measure him perfectly. I'm sure it was the costumers who decided to put him in a $3K suit but they... meant to do it, they wanted you to notice it. You can't look at everything about his suits (specifically the one he uses in court) and tell me it wasn't tailored to fit. Look at the bloody light play on the gorgeous finished wool of the jacket, the detail stitching, and the way it fits perfectly across his shoulders but still cuts so sharply to his waist and keeps the correct lengths against his hips and wrists? The slim cut trousers that actually fit his fat butt, narrow waist, and still stretch and drape well over those ridiculous thighs? Costumers tailored that for Charlie, yes, but in-universe who made the suits for Matt? His Oxford button-downs are nice, too. I'd bet money they're some long-loomed fibre anyway, dense but soft. NOT CHEAP. Yknow, that's the thing, look at the way Foggy's suit hangs on him a little, there is some ill-fitted shoulder drop and the oversized thing is happening and that material is obvs cheaper; all interesting and meaningful considering Foggy has much more whimsy and flair in his colour/style than Matt. Foggy is trying to present well with very little money while Matt's fashion sense is very classic, more serviceable and practical, more muted and utilitarian which, yeah, the guy is blind, I get it, so why such a money wardrobe? Daytime armour like the trademark glasses he hides his blind eyes behind? What else were we supposed to get from his expensive suits?

His shoes, otoh, are so cheap leather and soft-soled and don't match his tailored suit at all, and I'm not sure if that's supposed to be because he's blind and/or because he's Daredevil and needs to go parkouring his ass all over the rooftops at any given time and can't be bothered to wear sewn leather welt soles and slippery heels when he's doing it. My question about all this? WHERE is Matt getting the money for all his stuff (AND HIS FLAT, which Matt admits is expensive, and his silk freaking sheets, and and and) if his only job is being a defence lawyer and they have no clients yet? Foggy is crying about money all the time (and we don't even get to see where Foggy lives!) but Matt is not, and it seems Stick took the money Matt's father left him when Matt was a child? Matt doesn't have any family to sport him dosh for uni or anything else; this isn't the Matt in comics where he was struggling super hard in uni for every spare dollar, and this isn't the older Matt in comics who is established as a badass lawyer and making a decent wage (him wearing Jay Kos suits is canon, yo). So where is MCU Matt getting all his money? Did I miss this explanation in the show somehow? Has somebody already asked this question and I missed the answer? I feel like I'm either missing something obvious or I'm the only one looking at his tailoring.

Matt doesn't actually pay Melvin for the Devilsuit, they barter for it, but everything else Matt has, even his accessibility tech and all the canes he tosses away into random dumpsters, it all costs serious money. Foggy even calls Matt on his burnerphone, ffs, because obvs Foggy is paying attention to money like someone who doesn't have any, while Matt seems to have a relationship with money like someone who is used to having it. He should be dressed worse than Foggy; at least Foggy has a mess of family to help him out with money when he needs it. Matt's either a rent boy, a verrry active rent boy, or he has a legit patron helping him out for some reason. I really want to point at an overly-invested sugar daddy somewhere and until someone comes up with a better answer, I'm just sticking to that. But if you guys have any ideas on this, pleeeeease, enlighten me!

lookin for self-harm themed fics

(Anonymous) 2015-09-11 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
tw for self-harm mentions

i'm throwing a pity-party for myself + my favourite party game is reading the saddest stuff i can find (is this a semi-morbid and ultimately unhelpful thing to do? yes!! is it kind of cathartic? yes!!) but i need a little help party planning.

i assumed this show would have given way to a decent amount of self-harm themed fic (it is an appropriately sad and dark series) but i'm only turning up like fifteen results. i figure there might be an untapped goldmine somewhere out there that's waiting for me and my pick-axe. i've only used Ao3 and the kinkmeme so i'm wondering if anyone in this bar could point me in the direction of somewhere else to look for fic or for any fic-recs!!

Father Lantom

(Anonymous) 2015-09-12 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
I'm trying to figure out Father Lantom's character for a fic maybe and after rewatching all the bits of the show that he appears in I'm wondering if anyone has figured out a timeline for him. And if it is possible he knew Jack Murdock; or just of him...

From what I can figure he was in Rwanda in 1994 - though it's never explicitly said, it's definitely implied he was there during the genocide - which means he probably wasn't in Hell's Kitchen when Matt was a kid and his dad was alive. But the actor is in his seventies -born in 1943 - so it's very possible for Lantom to have been a young priest in Hell's Kitchen when Jack was a boy/growing up.

But then in one episode, when he knows Matt's name, he implies that he asked around to find out about 'Battlin' Jack Murdock' and his son, meaning that he didn't know him.

TL;DR: I wanna know if it's believable for Father Lantom to have known Jack Murdock and if anyone has any insights into Father Lantom's timeline.

Matt bashing?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-16 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Guys, am I starting to see a trend toward Matt bashing in fics on AO3? Not the good sexy kind of Matt bashing, either. Is this a thing now? Any idea where this is coming from? Well, hang on, I AM aware of a couple of specific authors who seem to have some deep issues with Matt and in most of their stories use Foggy as their mouthpiece so they can paint Matt as The Worst, but I'm also seeing more of those type of stories, or at least I'm skimming a lot more on the DD filter these days than I was a month ago. Did Charlie Cox say something or do something to piss off fandom because fandom tends to hold a grudge like that. Has CC finally done something problematic?

concentrating while writing?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-16 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
my fellow prompt fillers: how do you keep your concentration while you're writing? concentrating in general is difficult for me but it's especially hard when i'm writing, as every time i get distracted it becomes harder and harder to go back and keep writing because i start worrying about whether or not i'm ever going to finish. what are your tips and tricks? educate me, help me!

Stick to return in S2!

(Anonymous) 2015-09-16 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
It's been confirmed that Scott Glenn will be back in S2 of Daredevil. Well, we all knew Stick had plans for Matt, plans Matt knew nothing about.

Now I'm looking at Elektra's appearance in a whole new sketchy light. OMG.

Writing challenge?

Matt Murderdock Appreciation Post

(Anonymous) 2015-09-17 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
So I noticed a lot of appreciation for Matt Murderdock from Spider-Gwen's Earth-65 going on via the Prompts Post, and having just read it I have to say... ummm... hell yeah, am I right? A dark murderous version of Matt working with Fisk, and Foggy Nelson as the D.A. working with Captain Stacy to sort things out too? That is just awesome.

Also, the solicitation for the new Spider-Gwen series coming in October actually referred to Matt Murdock as the Kingpin of Crime. Which begs the question - is he working for Fisk or is Fisk working for him?

So I thought I'd start a post here where we could talk about him. :D

(Also, if anyone else who reads comics knows of any other alt-Matts out there in the Marvelverse, please share! I've encountered a couple, but I know that especially with Secret Wars happening, there's probably a bunch I missed out on.)

Separate post for comic prompts?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-21 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
I've been looking and I haven't found a Daredevil comics-centric kinkmeme anywhere. I think it'd be pretty interesting to have a separate post on here for it since a completely separate kinkmeme probably wouldn't get that much traffic. Any thoughts?

on my 3rd viewing of DD

(Anonymous) 2015-09-21 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm finally noticing some things in the series I didn't catch earlier:

1) Matt's abandonment issues manifest in so many ways through the series but it's so sad to see the way he assumes people are always ready to quit him, like his friendship isn't worth anything. For the longest time I couldn't figure out why he says 'Two' when Stick asks Matt if he has any friends, people he cares about. I was looking at Foggy, Karen, and Claire as Matt's people, and then I realised he tells Claire goodbye on the phone when he thinks he's about to die, and then leaves her a voicemail after things settle down, but Stick asks him when is [Claire] coming back to Matt's apartment and Matt says, 'Never.' Matt can't lie to Stick, he honestly believes Claire is done with him totally and completely. And this helps explain why Matt is so completely mute/hands off around Foggy once Foggy walks out on him in Nelson vs Murdock. Foggy seems a little more elastic in his attitude towards their argument (he says they're going through a very rough patch rather than saying they're over and he never wants to have anything to do with Matt) and Matt's the one who says 'I thought Nelson & Murdock were over'. Matt honestly thought they were done! Foggy must know about Matt's abandonment issues so Foggy's the one who makes the overture to fix things between them. For a little while, Matt must have thought he only had one real friend in the world: Karen.

2) In the comics Ben has a super close relationship to Daredevil. Ben's an investigator, a reporter, and a friend/confidante who shares investigative info with Matt/DD. Foggy was always Matt's friend, but Ben was the one who Matt talked to about the whole vigilante side of his life before Foggy ever found out. I was very upset to see Ben killed off in the series, but I've only just realised that the show is splitting up his character traits. Matt/DD will have Foggy to confide in now instead of Ben, and Ben's investigative intrepid reporter side was given to Karen. Ben grooms her for that on the show.

3)In the episode with Stick, there is some paralleling story points, even some very similar dialogue between Ben/Karen and Matt/Stick which (possibly) puts a slight spin on Stick's intentions towards Matt without actually saying anything. Matt asks Stick why he came back to NYC, break to a different scene of Ben telling Karen to be smarter, make good decision at the right time (like what Stick tells Matt when he's young), and that if anything happens to her it's on Ben, his responsibility, because he's the one who's teaching her. There're a lot of Karen and Matt parallels here like when one of the thugs has Karen against the wall and threatens to empty the mace into her face 'and burn your eyes out so you don't go snooping where you're not supposed to' which, hello, MATT. Lack of eyesight doesn't stop some people from trying to do what's right.

4) Although Foggy and Claire are both healer-support types (you know what I mean), they're both equally capable of beating the shit out of people with baseball bats to the head.

Have you guys noticed new things upon repeated viewings of the series that you didn't notice at first?

Comic recs?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-22 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
What are people's favourite characters/runs/volumes/issues??? If someone asked you which comics they absolutely must read, what would you say? I usually base what I want to read off of what I hear other people talking about, so I thought I'd just...ask :3
