It's never mentioned. I figure that they were found to be not at fault, or the settlement/sentence cost all went to Matt's hospital bills.

Maybe he decided to be lawyer after getting screwed over by a crooked corporate attorney

I wrote a short fic that addressed whether he got a settlement or not directly, but most people kind of forget about that possibility.

As someone who did get a settlement from a childhood car accident, it is likely Matt got something, but it might so depend upon factors like whether or not the truck that hit him was properly insured and how big the company was, whether or not his dad had the money and/or knew how to retain a lawyer, whether the truck violated any government legislation carrying those substances, etc.

In addition, if Jack had life insurance or medical insurance, there may have been some money that came out of that, but probably barely enough to cover medical costs.

SA - Just to add to that, my childhood settlement took 8 years to work out. So if he did get one, it's absolutely possible that it happened well after Jack's death.

Additionally, Foggy knew his name and recognized him as a hero when he met him, so I also assume that the community rallied around him at some point too, possibly raising money.

It's not the 100% point of the fic, but a lawsuit and settlement that earned Matt some money after his dad's death plays an important role in the fic.
