This post is for prompts involving characters from Netflix's Daredevil.

Now that The Defenders prompt post is live, all crossovers between anyone in the four individual shows should go over there. Prompts only including characters that appear in Daredevil should still go here.

General

2. All comments must be anon. If you would like to be politely banned to avoid anon-failing, leave a logged-in comment on the mod post or pm the mod account.

4. RPF is allowed. Crossovers, characters from the extended Marvel Universe and comics canon are allowed, but must relate to the 2015 TV show in some way.

Matt's not in a good place. He's enstranged from his friends, more isolated than he had ever been in his life (and that's saying something), everything important is gone and there's just... only so much willpower in one man. He can't make a difference. He's toxic.

He decided that he will die tonight. It will be a relief.

...and then he finds a child.

Fuck.

I imagine this pretty angsty, with Matt struggling to take care of this fragile human being while being fragile himself, still isolated.

And for most or all of the story, gen. Will accept any pairing if you keep the angst though :)

When he comes into his hideout, Red is inside. "Oh for fuck's---"

"I need your help."

'I'm not going on a puppy quest with you, Red' is what he should say.

He glances at the man a little closer. Red has his coal in hand instead of on his face, which is a first. His hair is sweaty and he looks pale, maybe fiverish. "...are you bleeding?"

Red wages his glistening arm vagualy to the side. "I don't have anyone to leave her with," he says.

Frank must be getting old, because only now he looks at their surroundings, deeper into the place. Where a tiny bundle is sleeping peacefully on his matteress.

"You're joking."

Red smirked. "I left supplies," he says, and is already on his way out.

"I'm moving on the mob tonight---"

"So am I. That's why I need someone to sit her." With that, Red is gone. And Frank is grounded.

He moves to the bundle. "...Fuck you too, Red."

The prompt was pretty angst, but the minifill is hilarious! Matt is a little bastard and we love that for him.
Frank is also probably definitely better with children, or at least he has experience. Painful experience he might not want to think about, but that’s a detail.

Prompt and the minifill are kind of both mine. I was thinking who Matt would turn to when he doesn't have anybody, and... yeah. Frank has experience. And Matt has unearned trust in Frank's "code".

I think there's really a lot of potential for angst in this idea too: Frank faced with being a parent again, Matt hopeless and alone enough to ask a murderer for help rather than former friends, two of them unable to truly accept each other because of Frank's disregard for forgiveness, second chances and human life, Frank's disregard for forgiveness, second chances and human life definitely affecting still-on-the-verge-of-suicidal Matt, both of them unable to stop risking their lives despite this responsibility, both of them loving this child that doesn't actually belong to them...

But there's no way throwing a child between Daredevil and the Punisher wouldn't be hilarious at least half of the time :DD

Yes to hilariousness mixed with angst! It'd be a glorious fic for sure :)

So, question - what age do you prefer the kid to be? Obvious answer is baby, but I'm not convinced. Feels like then she would be more of a prop than character. Anything else comes with its own bucket of problems, though. What do you think?

I wouldn't go for a baby. I'd say someone at least able to talk, I think I'd go for 8-10 years. Of course that requires a backstory for the child, though! Some reason why she's better off with Frank and Matt and not the police/her actual family (if she has one). Maybe she’s an orphan who ran away from the orphanage for X reason? And Matt doesn't have the heart to give her back to the foster system (?).
Random suggestions that came to mind.

Those are some good suggestions, thanks! I was thinking younger than that, but 8 years old works.

I also have another prompt at the back of my mind that I didn't post since it's so similar, but I think with the directions I'm taking here maybe I can. That one involves a teenager, so this is one of the reasons why I look at younger kids here. Check it out and comment? It'll be at the very bottom of the page.

One of my doubts was — we've already had Frank interact with David's kids, who were about this age. So I don't want to do the same thing twice. So now I'm thinking about what to add to this little girl's characteristics that would make it significantly different. Some possibilities come to mind, but nothing quite convinces me yet.

Do you have any ideas?

(Also, is it okay to workshop things with you like this?)

Of course it's alright! I understand wanting to make the kid younger then, maybe even 6?
I think no matter what she'd remind him of Lisa (I'm not sure how much he was around while Lisa grew up, don't really know how the army works. If he wasn't around much, maybe taking care of this child makes him think of all the time he lost?)

I'm not sure how to separate her from David's kids, though (also because my memories of his show are pretty vague)

The obvious backstory is this is Matt’s child and something happened to the mother so the child came to him.

This solves the problems of them basically kidnapping a kid, and makes it super angst because of Matt’s abandonment issues.

Would he give the kid to someone else and abandon them or would it be enough for him to have the will to live.

Maybe it’s both. He goes up against the mob, has a chance for suicide by mobster and decides to live.

When he got to the bundle Red left him with, he saw that it was actually two bundles — one wrapped around another. One sleeping peacefully, and another pulling it in and eyeing him suspiciously from under the covers.

Jesus Fucking Christ.

Then Murdock finally showed up and Frank geared up to flay his ass off verbally, when — "Are you bleeding?"

Some things never fucking change.

He stood in the middle of a crime scene. Blood was splatterred on the alley in an almost obscene manner - like someone took a person and smeared it on the floor; Matt wasn't aware that a human body could hold that much.

He felt numb.

This will not be a crime scene; not really. No one will come to investigate. No one will even pretend--- the only time that happens is when the murder gets recorded. Matt isn't great at recording things.

No, instead a few police cars arrived, officers unceremoniously grabbed the body and hauled it into their trunk, and they will later file a death certificate and call family. Or not.

You can't fight the police. Matt can't fight the police; nobody can. This is why vigilantism rose in his city, and this is why vigilantism is useless.

There was a rusted piece of sharpnel just behind the smear. Matt picked it up slowly. What an end for the Devil of Hell's Kitchen, flashed in his mind, but it didn't stay there long. He put the edge to his arm. He was lucky he decided to forgoe the red suit a while ago; cutting through that one would be a bother.

The black shirt offered no resistance at all.

He was just about to press when--- something distracted him. A cry? There was no use to answer to cries, but... it was close. He put the sharpnel in his back pocket and went to investigate. Just ahead...

Just ahead, in one of the dumpsters. Tired, muffled, hoarse. Alien, but that just might be because it vibrated through thin plastic walls and--- well, whatever was in there. It smelled of rot, and something worse. Obstacles change sounds.

A cry again. Like nothing he had ever heared. He lifted the lid, and--- and there was a cry again. Breathing. Heart. Heat, but just barely - like a cooling body. And it was small.

A baby.

For a moment, there was only shock. Then he blinked. Small, quiet. Alive, but that heat--- it needed to get somewhere warm, quickly. He gathered it into his arms carefully — so tiny--

Something hissed deeper in the trash. He barely registered it before a feral cat lounged at him.

"Ahhh! Engh, mfhf..." It was a good thing no one here would be inclined to react to any noises tonight. "Uh, eghh..."

Finally he managed to claw the thing off his face. It was a fucking struggle to struggle while holding something fragile in his arms. He hissed back at the cat--

It wasn't a cat.

This one didn't sound like anything he ever heard before either. The world was full of aliens tonight.

He focussed on the withering form in his left hand. He kept it at an arm's lenght - literally - and all the movement made it horribly confusing. It was viscious - still hissing, still trying to attack him, fuitely because it was just too small---

Small. Very much alive, and he could feel its pulse under his palm---

Now a lot of things have a pulse. Most living things, as far as he was concerned. All leaving things Matt had and will ever have encounter, provided that he doesn't have to befriend 'the fishes' in Hudson River.

But they all sound just a little different from each other. Vibrating through bones and skin and fur, the lengh of their body and the thickness of it, it was visceral if you paid too much attention but he could usually tell the species aside. This one was---

Human.

A baby? Again?

Again? 👀

So now he had one baby in one hand and another baby in another hand. He stopped to listen hard if there was more of a kindergarden in this blood-infused trash-pile. That would be a problem; he only had two hands.

But thankfully, no. Nothing but putrid poisons and some rats at the bottom.

Well, that's okay then. No need to worry about rabis at all. He felt a sudden wave of exhaustion; get to work, Matty. Not tomorrow, today. Get up.

The left-hand baby bit him.

"Fuck!" He looked at it with wide eyes. He had a distinct feeling that it was glaring back. So much for melancholy. This one was definitely more lively than the other.

And THAT was a wake-up call. The body heat.

That kid needed to get somewhere warm, fast. He needed to... fuck, fine. He put it under his shirt, directly at his skin, pointedly ignoring how inappropriate it felt. The other kid growled; Matt growled back. The shirt was designed to keep the heat in; getting rid of that barier made a difference.

And putting it as a barier between the kid and the cold rest of the world also made a difference, trapping Matts heat just around them instead of letting it dissipate into the air. So unless the little brat was volunteering to warm its brother themselves, it could please shut up.

Matt wasn't about to waltz with two babies shirtless, anyway. He'd much prefer to be prosecuted as a terrorist than a child pervert, thank you.

He sighed. Well, time to go home.

He turned towards the sea of blood surrounding them and took the first step of a long, long walk.

Rabies vaccines are safe for all ages - he had to look up that one - and he did actually have one, courtesy of Claire. Checking the dosage was harder, but he had gotten a pretty rapid training in finding appropriate medical information online course in the last few months, so it didn't take long. Good, because he didn't know how long the kids had been in that dumpster (who was he kidding; he had a pretty good idea) and it had been instilled in him that getting a rabis vaccine was something that needed to be done immediately after a suspected infection.

Information gathered, he knew now that splitting the one shot he had between them would be enough, and was reasonably sure an overdose wouldn't kill them.

Well, good.

The kids were sleeping - the small one exhausted itself with all the biting and scratching (hm, should he get a rabis vaccine? something to think about) and the smaller one sighed in contentment about half-way into their walk and pulled itself closer to his skin, finally warm. It did try suckling at his breast at one point — which, well. He'll scratch that off his bucket list of indignities. At least no one was there to witness Devil of Hell's Kitchen jumping two feet up with a yelp.

He cleaned them up and searched for cuts first. Small mercies - he didn't find any. He disinfected their arms, cut the dose and administered the vaccines with self-congratulory satisfaction - yes, he was getting good at those.

After a moment of consideration, he disinfected the rest of their bodies too. Just in case. The Small One was burning up, so he gave it half an aspirine — without cuts, it was probably a cold or just a stress response. The Smaller One was peaceful.

He didn't have clean clothes for them so he just tucked them in as-is into his bed - child pervert, Stick sneered at the back of his mind - and made sure they were warm and taken care of. Like you can talk, he answered.

He collapsed into his coach without changing — and yet half-naked anyway, the gloves and shirt had to go when he was taking care of the kids, to not put his filth on them — and closed his eyes behind the mask. Or maybe they were closed already. He was on the verge of sleep.

Night, Stick, went through his loopy brain before falling completely.

So now Frank will have to annoyingly patch the stupid vigilante who left him two babies up? Sounds good 🔥

Yup. I was too tired to write it out after the whole rabis thing, but Frank will definitely put some very annoyed stitches in Matt - while also interrogating him and Having Words.

And since Matt is injured and also has two children to carry he can't easily escape, which, you know - bonus. As far as Frank's concerned, anyway.

It might be a Tiny Hell for Matt for a while xd 😈
