Defenders-only Discussion Post

This post is for prompts involving everyone in Netflix's The Defenders! Crossovers between anyone in the four individual shows should go here. Prompts only including characters from one show should still go on the relevant show prompt post.

Rules:
  • General
    1. YKINMKATO. Play nice. If you don't like something, scroll on.

    2. All comments must be anon. If you would like to be politely banned to avoid anon-failing, leave a logged-in comment on the mod post or pm the mod account.

    3. Subject lines should only be changed if you're posting a prompt or a fill (indicators like OP or Author!Anon should go in the body of the comment).

    4. RPF is allowed. Crossovers, characters from the extended Marvel Universe and comics canon are allowed, but must relate to the 2017 TV show in some way.

    5. Drop a comment on the mod post if you have any questions or problems.

  • Prompts
    1. All types of prompts are welcome.

    2. Use the subject line for the main idea of your prompt (pairing or characters, keywords, kink).

    3. Warnings are nice, but not mandatory. Get DW Blocker if there's anything you really don't want to see.

  • Fills
    1. Put [FILL] or something similar in the subject line when posting a fill.

    2. Announce your fill on either the Completed Fills Post or the WIP Post.

    3. Long fills can either be posted over multiple comments, or posted on AO3 and linked back here.

    4. Multiple fills are always okay.

    5. Fills can be anything! Fic, art and vids are all welcome.

  • Please post any prompts related to Season 2 of Punisher over on the dedicated Punisher prompt post, and put SPOILERS in the subject line!

Foggy Barely Holding It Together and Then Finally Just Losing It

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
I know that a lot of people who had issues with Foggy being cold to Matt last season and the N&M divorce are going to be pretty ticked about his reactions in that final episode to Matt's death.

But please, please can someone just write about him telling himself over and over again that he prepared himself for that moment and that he always knew Matt would die, only for him to then in private just absolutely not have been ready for it and lose it.

I need someone to write deep, mournful Foggy grief, and maybe self-loathing and feelings of guilt, mixed with not wanting to breakdown about it in front of people or allow it to show.

[FILL] Your Loss, 1/1, Foggy losing it over Matt's death

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
A/N: This might be more low key than you wanted, OP, and I'm not entirely sure about it because it just kinda poured out, but...well, here's something!

+++

Foggy knew, by the time he went to Matt's apartment and gathered up all the Daredevil shit, that he wasn't going to get Matt back without Matt putting the suit on one last time. Because here's the truth: Matt didn't really have a choice.

He was caught up in the Hand mess because of bad luck. Because that Stick asshole had made him into a weapon in a war that he didn't want to fight.

It's hard to be a conscientious objector when the war is a secret.

Foggy knew that if Matt could just get through this last thing, he could finally, finally stop, and Foggy could get him back, because he couldn't take being separated from Matt like he was, not anymore. That's why he reached out.

But the whole thing was a gamble, because Foggy's hope that Matt could really, finally stop rested on one thing: Matt surviving.

And Foggy knew that maybe he wouldn't. He'd resigned himself to it.

Honestly, there was more resignation than hope, by the time he gave Matt the suit, because Foggy knew that Matt was going to get himself killed at some point.

(That Matt was going to kill himself at some point.)

That was a blessing, he guesses, because it meant that he mostly just felt numb when Matt didn't walk through that door. Just thought, 'oh, okay, then'.

Because he was prepared. He'd already imagined Matt's death a million times, already grieved.

His knowledge that he was just trying to hold onto a man who had one foot out the door of life was half the reason he detached himself from Matt, or tried to.

Just to get used to how life might be without him.

Foggy pretended that Matt wasn't a phone call away, that he wasn't lonely and hurting but right there, that he was dead like Foggy knew he'd be in not too long, and it gave him a taste of life without Matt, his best friend, his brother. Matt was always there for him and Foggy was always there for Matt, and then he wasn't and the pain gnawed at him, at his heart, at his stomach.

Foggy hurt because Matt wasn't with him, but that grief faded, became manageable. He got used to it, and ignored the fact that it wasn't the same as Matt really being gone forever. He figured it was close enough that things wouldn't really change when Matt actually did die, he wouldn't really change. The grief wouldn't really change. Even as he reconnected with Matt, he accepted that he was mostly looking at a ghost. He still tried to keep Matt away from that life, borrow some more time for him, for them, but he always told himself, he's going to die and you're going to have to deal with it.

And he's dealing with it. He's doing fine.

He did prepare himself.

He did.

Near the end, he and Foggy weren't even that close, so obviously not much is different. He and Matt weren't working together. They weren't hanging out much. They just...weren't what they used to be.

So, yeah, things haven't actually changed much at all, except Matt's dead.

He's dead, but he wasn't really with Foggy before either, so it's not a huge leap, transitioning from Matt being alive to Matt not being alive.

Foggy continues. He moves on. He blinks away tears when he's reminded of Matt. By the time Matt died, Foggy hadn't even been thinking about him that much. Matt would come into his mind, sure, and often.

How's he doing?

Is he okay?

I miss you, Matty.

I want to see you again.

But Foggy still had his own life without him, just like Matt had his own life without Foggy.

And the life continues.

Foggy's does, that is, and just like Matt stopped dominating his thoughts after they drifted apart, he doesn't dominate his thoughts now.

He doesn't, he doesn't, he doesn't, because there's no reason for him to, not anymore. He was already gone.

(He was a phone call away.)

Foggy doesn't think of him that much. He doesn't, he--

He hears Matt's sleep-breathing sometimes in the dark, measured but occasionally hitching. Foggy used to wake Matt up from nightmares, sit next to him while he rocked back and forth and whispered nonsense that Foggy understands now.

He feels him in his office, rambling about case law.

In his home, tossing an apple from hand to hand and if you're gonna take it you might as well eat it, Matty.

On the street, hand on Foggy's elbow, and Foggy finds himself automatically saying, stairs, and curb, and I'm nodding, I'm shaking my head, I'm smiling.

I'm smiling.

Foggy goes to Matt's apartment to pack up his things, to toss out the food in the fridge, to clean the place up, or that's what he tells himself, because when he gets there all he does is sit on the couch and exist and remember.

Laughing with Matt, talking to Matt about anything and everything, drinking with him, being with him, being with him, being with him, and not so long ago Foggy could've come into this apartment and waited for Matt to get home.

Foggy doesn't pack anything up. He just sits on the couch and thinks about tomorrow, another day without Matt in the world. Foggy will go to work. He will see Marci. He will see Karen. Karen will cry and Foggy won't, instead he'll just comfort her, having already found his peace with what happened. He won't acknowledge the fact that he hadn't been as resigned as he thought he was, at the end. He won't acknowledge the fact that he only thought he was ready for Matt to not walk through that door. Won't acknowledge the fact that he was expecting the unexpected, expecting Matt to walk in, to smile in his general direction. Won't acknowledge the fact that when what he thought he was resigned to did, in fact, happen, it broke his entire world to pieces.

The rational part of him said that his last ditch attempt at getting Matt back wouldn't really pan out, that Matt wasn't going to survive this, that he already knew that Matt wouldn't make it to forty. The rational part of him said 'prepare yourself for the worst'.

The rational part of him said 'oh, okay, then' when the worst happened, because it turned out that the rational part of himself thought it was wrong.

Just like Foggy, it expected relief and joy and beautiful, giddy surprise.

Foggy's an optimist. He believes in miracles.

He expected a miracle.

Matt lived through so much. Why not this too?

Except--

Prepare yourself for the worst. He's not going to make it. Accept that he's not going to make it. If he makes it, it'll be a surprise. A good surprise, but a surprise.

What kind of idiot expects a surprise?

All Foggy ended up with was reality.

In reality, Matt is dead, and Foggy's just getting through the days. He has no right to walk around in a cloud of grief. He and Matt weren't even that close anymore.

Except Matt was his best friend. That never changed. It would never change. Even if Matt had outlived Foggy and they'd never spoken again, that would never change, and they were reconnecting anyway. It was awkward and painful, but they were reconnecting.

He keeps ignoring that.

And Foggy may have told Karen, may tell himself, that he brought the suit so that they could get Matt back, maybe, probably not, but the truth is a little more complicated than that, because it wasn't just about them.

It was about him and Matt too.

It was about telling Matt, at what could be the end, that Foggy understood that he had to do what he had to do. That Foggy knew that Daredevil was a part of him. That Foggy didn't hate him for it, and that he forgave him and hoped Matt could forgive him.

That Foggy just really wanted him to live, that's all.

So that they could keep reconnecting. So that they could fix what they'd both broken.

But now it'll be unfixed forever, and tomorrow Foggy will wake up and he will be in a world without Matt, and he will miss him, but it won't be the same. He thought it would be like it was: Matt painfully not there because he's off living his life somewhere else.

But Matt's not off living his life somewhere else.

He's just not here anymore, and so he's everywhere. His memory, the suffocating grief, the regret, the guilt, that's what's left.

Foggy thinks about him all the time, because he's never coming back. It's not even an option.

Foggy sits on Matt's couch and the grief wraps around his body and the future stretches out in front of him and at every milestone in Foggy's life there's someone missing, and if Foggy calls Matt's phone his call will go straight to voicemail.

Foggy's sobbing before he notices that he was crying at all. Horrible, wounded sounds tear out of his throat and his chest burns with pain because he can barely breathe, all his oxygen is getting sucked into these heaving, wrenching sobs, and there's no comfort for him because he's fine. He moved on. He's doing better than anyone could ever have expected, because he was ready for this.

Foggy is doubled over in pain, fingers tangled in his hair, sobs that sound more like wails tearing from his throat, mind emptied of everything but the bitter knowledge that he misses his friend. He's lightheaded and his entire body burns, like grief has given him a fever.

Matt's memory wraps itself around his shoulders.

Nothing is okay, and Foggy is alone.

Foggy and Karen Dealing With Matt's Bizarre "Disappearance"

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
I know the show handwaved away ANY consequences for anyone or press coverage (why would the NYPD not file a report? Like... that makes no real sense), but Foggy and Karen couldn't really tell people that Matt died in the building at Midland Circle, right? So what happens next...

Give me Foggy secretly paying his bills on his place in the slim hope that Karen's right and he'll come back and then one day having to finally clean it out because a pipe burst or something. Or Foggy taking on a bunch of his pro-bono cases and having to tell his clients that he's "on a sabbatical" or explain it to them...

Or Foggy's family still asking him for Matt updates and him just not knowing what the hell to say...

Or Marvin somehow tracking Foggy or Karen down to ask what happened to Daredevil...

Or Foggy being stoic with Marci and not saying anything and her one day realizing that he hasn't brought up Matt in longer than is normal and asking him if he talked to him recently and it causing a breakdown...

I just want Foggy and Karen never getting to properly move on because they can't really come out and outright state to anyone that Matt is dead and they don't know how to explain it.

The Defenders Bury Stick as a Way To Memorialize Matt

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
As a weird way of memorializing Matt since there's no body, Luke, Jess, Danny and Colleen ask the police station to release Stick's remains to them so that they can put up gravestones for the two of them next to Elektra's "grave".

The resulting funeral service features them telling Foggy and Karen stories based on what they saw of that relationship and talking to them about Elektra and all of them ruminating on this side of Matt that none of them properly knew and trying to understand.

Alpha!Jessica/Omega!Matt, established relationship, supportive partners

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Just Alpha!Jessica and Omega!Matt being an awesome snarky couple. They fight bad guys as well as people who think their partner is, respectively, a "cold hard b. incapable of human emotions appart from anger" or "a useless in a fight (doubly because of his blindness) good only for one thing" omega. Matt uses his lawyer skills and Jessica her sharp (and foul) tongue to shut down anyone that dare talk like that about the other. While at first they pretend to be annoyed at one another "I can fight my battles, thanks", in the end they're both touched by the nice things that their partner said about them in those circumstances.

+ they find the way the other talk there, fancy lawyer!talk, and at least one-swear-word-by-sentence!talk, very attractive
++ alpha!women and omega!men are rare, so when people start being douches to them upon learning that Jessica is the alpha and Matt the omega and that they are a couple, they get the double wammy.
+++ they're still snarky/sarcastic towards one another but never mean, they know each other limits

Rewrite: Matt makes it out with the other three

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
I'm curious to see a version of the climactic fight where Matt escaped up the elevator with the others, and what would need to be done for this to happen.

I 100% support this but lol my brain read this as "Matt makes out with the other three" which should be a thing too tbh

First it's a few relationships, then a few more, and then it develops into a truly insane web of poly relationships that almost breaks Google Calendar.

Matt/Luke/Jessica/Danny, BDSM, domming

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 07:37 am (UTC)(link)
Matt, Luke, and Jessica team up to dom the shit out of Danny, ordering him around, making him cry and moan and come and come. Bonus points for orgasm denial and casual domination.

Danny/Defenders, Humiliation kink

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
Danny actually does like being the Butt Monkey of the Defenders...in his pants. Someone (maybe Matt?) notices and casually outs him in another after-fight hangout, humiliating him further. They all run with it, routinely making Danny red-faced and squirming and uselessly clenching his fist. Bonus points for doing it in public (texting him in boardroom meetings, nonchalantly being mean to him in fights) and coming in pants.

Re: Danny/Defenders, Humiliation kink

(Anonymous) 2017-10-17 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh god, please. I love it when Danny's frustrated. He's the kind of adorable that makes me want to push him around like a cat batting a mouse.

Danny/Luke, hurt/comfort, past abuse

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 09:41 am (UTC)(link)
Loved the moment in episode 4 when Luke tells Alexandra to leave while she is touching Danny. Obviously Danny has a traumatic history, he talks about the grueling trials he faced as a boy to become the Iron Fist. Luke has been there for other lost young men who have experienced trauma, he wants to be there for Danny too.
or
Luke is used to protecting people who don't think they don't need it. Danny is afraid to trust anyone anymore, he's been used too many times. Can they strike a balance and find intimacy?

Re: Danny/Luke, hurt/comfort, past abuse

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you mind gen, anon? It's obviously fine if the answer is 'lol yes I do thx', but I do have ideas around this, it's just that I don't know if I'd be able to make it shippy. (I'm not a shipper in general, close friendship tends to be more my speed.) I mean, it would definitely get to Super Intimate Friendship and Maybe You Could See it as Pre-Slash/Romantic levels, but I don't think it would quite count as Danny/Luke over Danny&Luke.

Anyway, thoughts?

Matt wakes up in not-a-nice-place. The nun and hospital setting are hallucinations from the drugs theyre using on him to keep his senses confused. Emphasis on torture, but a happy ending where he's rescued. Any ship or gen.

Bonus if the punisher is involved.

Gen or matt/everyone Idc, 5 times the defenders had to deal with Matt's overemotional ass

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 10:37 am (UTC)(link)
Matt gets upset/frustrated so often like once an episode you see him struggling to deal with his emotions, and I just want to see the defenders + co dealing with that (in a handwavy period of time when they are working together idk)

Like sure they all have their vices and Danny gets righteously upset sometimes, but Matt really is over here throwing things and angry crying on the daily.

Could be mostly hurt/comfort, could be mix of humour (aka Luke and Jessica not knowing how to deal? With his emotions?) And maybe a plus one with Claire or Foggy who know him and how to help? Who knows, I'm easy.

Tldr; I love how much of a mess Matt is and I want the other Defenders discovering that

Re: Gen or matt/everyone Idc, 5 times the defenders had to deal with Matt's overemotional ass

I can see Jessica being like, "jesus, and here I thought I was extra" but actually being concerned underneath the snark

Trish comforts Foggy

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
So I really loved how i insightful Trish was in the scene with Karen. But what if she also turned that ability on to Foggy. Trish asks Foggy if he's okay at the police station after everyone shows up but Matt. He says he's fine. Everyone else seems willing to leave him be but Trish knows better from times when Jess has ghosted her or she's thought about Jess dying. Trish makes it her personal mission to keep an eye on him and try and be there for him. Can end in romance, comfort sex or just friendship.

Foggy Knows Matt is Alive and May Even Have Planned It

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
What if Foggy can tell people he is fine after Matt's "death" because he knows Matt isn't dead.

Could be due to magic, deals with actual devils, or just connections throughout the city who know that if Daredevil is ever "officially" found injured, nobody but a select group get told.

Maybe Foggy did something that means he knows that Matt can never die.

Just give me a scheming Foggy who gave Matt the suit and decided that the solution to Matt's Daredeviling and meber being able to stop was to have a backup plan for when he went back to it.

Luke/ Danny bondage scene

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I really liked when Danny got tied up in that way (so kinky), he was getting frustrated and Luke was understandind but unrelenting. I would love it if someome could write a sexy story involving this.

We all know Danny is (and will be) forever 10 years old inside and that he has MAJOR daddy issues. And we also know that Luke Cage is the ultimate daddy.

Please someone write a kinky scene where Danny is tied up (even better if it's the same one as in the show) and being bratty and Luke is all calm and completeley in charge.

BONUS: Danny gets spanked

Wake up call for karen/foggy

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Idk i find it unfair how much blame they put on Matt for his involvement with the Hand and the Chaste. Like the ninja war woulda left him out if hed just hung up the mask. Just something where they realize Matt really had no choice.
This could be anytime but posting here bc during or post-defenders is preferred, especially if claire calls em out or stick is involved.

Re: Wake up call for karen/foggy

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
This an interesting topic cause the way i see it both Karen and Foggy have a point simply because they were outsiders to everything. Matt told them only halfs truths and not the whole story. For Karen and Foggy the right answer was not to get involve and they will leave you alone (like what Matt told Jessica before they went into the Midland Building) but that was not the case. For them it was like "I told you so" moment and i get how it looks like it was unfair from them to think like that but from their perspective where they have seen their frined injured and in pain, they dont want their friend to suffer and when Shit went down it was easy to blame him cause of their own anger torward everything than to see what brought their friend to do what he had done.

I'm sorry it's not a Fic :v

AU If Matt Had Joined The Chaste

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
So it turns out the Chaste is all about working for the monks of Kunlun and part of that is deference to the Iron Fist.

So give me Stick actually raising Matt in the Chaste and then meeting Danny under those circumstances.

Friendship or slash are fine. I just want Matt having been raised to look up to Danny and either working alongside him or calling him out for failing in his duties.

And some good Stick and Matt relationship exploration.

None of the Defenders have a lot people skills and they don't have a clue about the visually impaired. Do they all try to ignore the fact that Matt is blind and never narrate or describe things? Maybe the make life hell for him through ignorance. Maybe they think it's funny to hide his cane or not label any food in Braille. Danny constantly rearranges the furniture etc.

Then someone sets them straight. Bonus points if it's a very pissed off Foggy.

role reversal au: elektra as a defender, matt as an assassin

(Anonymous) 2017-08-19 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
at the end of the fight with Nobu, it's Matt who dies instead of Elektra.

after that, Elektra finds herself getting dragged into the life of Saving People kicking and screaming, and Matt is in the meantime resurrected by the Hand and turned into their attack dog.

what happens next? how does Elektra's inclusion change the Defenders' dynamics? how do Jessica and Danny react to this dude? (especially Jessica, does she put two and two together re: Daredevil still?) what about Claire, what happens when she hears about Matt's death and then his resurrection? what about Foggy and Karen, how are they in the aftermath? what about Matt himself, what is he going through?

would like this to be mostly gen, but if ships are a thing, am partial to Matt/Elektra, Matt/Foggy, and possibly slightly Matt/Jessica.

Oh my, god, I was just writing something like this the other day but I wasn't sure if anyone would read it. But I kind of did a role reversal for everyone (well, except Jessica). In my story, Misty is basically Luke, Elektra is Daredevil, Jessica is still Jessica, and Colleen is Iron Fist. Also, it's Karen and Elektra who met in college and became lawyers. As far as ships go, it was mostly going to be a Karen/Elektra and Matt/Foggy fic. If you would like to read it, I can post the link once I'm done writing it?

Luke and Jess watch Matt change, ot3

(Anonymous) 2017-08-20 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Wherever they hid out for him to change into the suit turns out to have zero privacy. Or theyre waiting outside and a cop drives by so they barge in. Things get awkward, then things get flirty. Awkwardly flirty, then a little corny bc Luke's there.
Ot3, with implied ot4 ust is great, i ship this ot4 to space and back

Did Matt actually change in front of Jessica in his home? His door was open and he was probably more concerned with speed than modesty but still...

Domestic Defenders

(Anonymous) 2017-08-20 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
We really need some Slice of Life domestic fics. Maybe someone takes Matt grocery shopping, or they help Luke with Harlem's youth. Maybe the guys get together and do repairs on Jessica's place. Give us all the mundane fluff you can imagine!

Re: Domestic Defenders

YES. NICE. Jessica would totally play on misplaced chivalry to get the guys to do mundane shit for her lol. Like, if they're going to keep bothering her, they might as well fix up her apartment. And them 'helping Luke with Harlem's youth' would be a disaster, but I want to see it. Though Matt could definitely help with legal stuff. Danny crashes and burns with everyone but the younger kids who are fond of him because he plays games with them and has all these crazy stories from his childhood, and the older people who are more patient with his bs and like that he listens to the crazy stories from THEIR childhoods and hangs onto every word. Since he's a newcomer, he hasn't heard it all before. Jessica surprisingly does not really encourage teenage drinking. Do as I say, not as I do, kiddos. The teenagers think she's So Cool.

And everyone going grocery shopping would just be amazing. Luke reads out every single ingredient on everything for Matt and has strong opinions on hoodies. ('These are by far the most durable,' he says sagely. 'I don't even wear hoodies,' says Matt.) Jessica's purchases are seventy percent liquor. Danny buys her the really expensive stuff to get on her good side. He is utterly enchanted by everything in the grocery store because he's still not used to all the stuff that wasn't in K'un Lun. Also, he keeps politely asking where a bunch of Weird Shit That Does Not Exist in this Dimension happens to be.

Someone please fill this. EVERYONE please fill this.

Matt has amnesia, Matt/Foggy

(Anonymous) 2017-08-20 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Now it's Matt's turn to wake up with amnesia!

Matt survived, but he doesn't remember anything. Who ends up finding him? How does Foggy try and reintroduce him to his past? What are Matt's reactions to Foggy without the complicated emotional tangles (guilt) of the last couple years? How does Matt get his memory back?

(Foggy's approach has always defaulted to honesty, so would prefer if he doesn't try to deny that Matt was Daredevil, though he could make clear that he wasn't exactly gung-ho for the suit.)
