This post is for prompts involving characters from Netflix's Daredevil.

Now that The Defenders prompt post is live, all crossovers between anyone in the four individual shows should go over there. Prompts only including characters that appear in Daredevil should still go here.

There's also one where at the end of season one Fisk is exposed but manages to run away with Vanessa, and they kidnapp Matt on their way out. It is EXTREMELY disturbing, but also very good if you're willing to stomach THAT much angst. About half-way into the fic the plot shifts completely, and I lost interest. Angst and h/c are my go-tos, but bdsm romance with your savior really isn't.

Then there's a scene in Devil for Sale where Matt wakes up and finds Fisk and Vanessa in his appartement. Vanessa does "art things" like putting fruit around his body and taking pictures. It isn't brutal, and it isn't _real_ (turns out to have been a nightmare) but it makes you feel like _you_ just had a nightmare. As a fic focussed on trauma recovery, it was really good writing.

Can you give me a link to that recovery part? If you say it's really good, I want to read it :)

I had a dream where Matt and Frank were both deaged to ~10 and Matt was super Reckless and kept climbing buildings and trying to fight crime while Frank followed him around all freaked out because 'omg he's so reckless I have to follow him around to make sure he doesn't kill himself, no please don't jump between buildings omg we're going to die!' and it was very cute and now I want a fic about it

I read the h/c part :) also scrolled through the first part, which was... visceral. Yeah.

It makes sense that you remembered it as unfinished, because it doesn't feel finished. Matt didn't really recover. He resignes from being Daredevil, or even a lawyer. He leaves in fear. Fisk and Vanessa don't get prosecuted. They get into some hot water over unreleated crimes, but essentially get away with it. There's a general air of helplessness over it all. It's a pretty realistic ending, which honestly makes me feel worse.

A real-life case was referenced, in which two of probably much more assailants did get prosecuted, for a gleeful gang rape of a teenaged girl, which they recorded and posted on facebook. They were sentenced to one and two years in juvenile detention, and have since been having brilliant careers they have been hoping for before. Many rapists don't get caught, but when they do get caught and this happens? Nothing is okay.

It honestly would make me feel better if the story was marked as 'unfinished'. Then at least would be some hope left.

I think I'll get working on this prompt, just to make me feel better.

Frank rereads the mail for the third time. How the hell is this his reality now?

He should be out there, hunting down the gangs who killed his family.

He isn't.

He isn't, because Maria's worries for their government's direction came true. Frank is back from war, his family is dead, and he's been assigned a slave.

He really wants to kill whoever thought bringing back slavery was a good idea.

Only thing he can do now, though, is taking care of the malnourished man he's become responsible for. Maria would kill him if he didn't, he knows that.

"Red," he calls—the man refused to give him his actual name, for some reason, so Frank makes do. Maybe it's a stupid nickname, but it is what caught his attention since the first second: the bright red of the blindfold he wore before Frank allowed him to take it off, and the darker red of his law-abiding collar. Frank wanted to get rid of that, too, but Red told him exactly what happened to uncollared slaves. It stayed on. "Apparently, I gotta get you checked out at a clinic."

Red pales slightly. He's sitting in the corner, on the floor—Frank told him to just take the sofa, but the man's damn stubborn. At least he's not kneeling, though. He doesn't reply.

That bad, then. Frank wonders how hard it would be to track and kill any piece of shit involved with the new government. His list of targets gets longer any second that passes.

He releases a breath. First, the medical exam—then he can see about taking a few names off the list.

He looks up the nearest clinic, then amplifies the search radius 'cause he doesn't like their site. He finally finds one with reviews that don't refer to slaves as pets, and that has to be enough, for now. The doctor better not try anything on Red, though; Frank'll be watching.

"They've got an opening tomorrow," he tells Red, and doesn't miss they way his fists clench. He wonders, not for the first time, if Red thinks he's good at hiding his anger—if he does, he's fucking delusional.

Things didn't go the way they do in the show. Fisk and Vanessa don't get caught. The law isn't interested in prosecuting powerful people. They win against Daredevil, and then they go after Matt. They leave him just barely alive.

I'd like them to suffer, please.

I imagine Karen would be the one to execute revenge. She's both viscious enough and smart enough to do it, and she just recently learnt that she can kill, actually. Feel free to make her Not Stop after she's done. There are many more criminals to catch unsuspecting, after all.

Ouch, I definitely didn't remember Matt stopped being even a lawyer. That's depressing.

(The real-life case... There are no words. It makes me so angry, but too many things exactly like that happen, and it feels so helpless most of the time. No wonder people do stupid stuff like posting their gang-rape on facebook: they know they'll get off easy, if anything even happens to them.)

So Punisher!Karen to revenge Matt 👀

"Why did you do it? Doesn't it feel wrong to you? You just... don't care about their lives?" Red delivers that last line with an air of surprise and incomprehension, like a lost child. It's fucking pitiful.

"Don't need your preaching, choir boy. Those scumbags out there..."

Red is already shaking his head.

"No. I'm not talking about now. I understand now, I know why. But... before." He paces the roof, agitated. "You were happy. Normal. And you still signed up to kill. Why do it? Why be a soldier when you don't have to?"

It takes Frank a moment to realize that Red equates "soldier" to "murderer". He clenches his jaw. But before he can utter anything other than 'How DARE you...' Red crouches beside him, looking somewhere into the ether.

"When I killed..."

And that definitely gets Franks's attention.

"When I killed my first opponent," Red says, voice shaking, "I vomited right after. Stick didn't like that."

Who the fuck is Stick?

"You killed who, Red?"

Red doesn't seem to have heard him, focused on clenching and unclenching his fist. "I know it was either them or me, that's how war works, but... they were so many. They could have gotten out, maybe; I did. But they never had the chance, and it's on me."

"The hell are you talking about?" That sounds like... "You haven't been to war, Red. You told me."

"Not your war, at least."

Frank isn't liking this one bit. He knows what Red does during the day, who he is. Somehow he doubts law school leaves much time for going to secret wars. "When did that happen?"

He doesn't think he's gonna like the answer, but he gotta know. And if it is what he's thinking it is, he might have to track down some asshole named Stick.

If Red really was a child soldier... Yeah, Frank gets it now. He hates how it makes sense, how that would explain Red's stubbornness to believe anyone got something worth saving in them. They don't, Frank knows that better than most, but Red needs that belief.

Red releases a shaky exhale. "I was twelve."

"I don't deal in rape," Weasley declares, adjusting the hems of his sleeves as he walks. There's a slight distaste at the word in his voice. "Any boundries I should be aware of?"

Matt is momentarily overwhelmed by his surroundings; they just entered what must be the most expensive hotel room - or any room - he has ever been in. Weasley obviously feels right at home here, and Matt decidedly doesn't.

"Don't call me Matthew," he says. And before he can think about it, "My priest calls me Matthew."

Weasley gives out a surprised laugh. "Of course you would have a priest." Matt can hear a smug, amusedly deteached smile in his tone when he turns and cups his face, adjusting it lightly to meet his eyes.

"Well then, Mr Murdock. What shall we do with you?"

I wonder if Matt is regretting his genius idea here xD

Probably not, but oh boy, he's in over his head.

It's not stated outright, but it IS stated that he doesn't go out of Foggy's appartement, at all. Which Fisk is smug about. I think the justice we're being promised at the end is that they're about to die in that city-wide catastrophe in Sokovia, since they're going there for vacation. It isn't justice to me at all. A lot of innocent people died that day.

...I may have prompted a Karen's Revenge fic to get some catharsis.

The guys from the real-life case - they didn't expect to be punished at all. One of them allegedly nearly fainted after the verdict, shouting "My life is over!" (It wasn't. He got hired to be an athlete just like he wanted). I think the worst part for me is that it was legally possible to give that sentence at all. The minimum sentence for involuntary manslaughter - like losing control of your car and hitting someone with zero fault on your part - is 15 years. But gang rape of a teenager is only worth a minimum of one year? And then they say that there's no patriarchy anymore and we have equal rights now.

And now I consider "doubiously consented and extremely dangerous sex-based romance with potentially lethal enemy" a comfort. Wow.

He's far too recless to regret anything xd

Yup. Only the Punisher does his thing VERY publically and, well, en mass. Also without worrying about who actually did something terrible and who is a 17-year-old from a bad neighborhood that joined a gang for safety and runs errands for a mid-level weed-smuggler.

I think Karen would be much more subtle and tenatious than that. Not a mass-murderer; a serial killer with specific targets whom she investigated and gathered entire files on, that nobody ever sees coming or going.

I honestly think Canon Karen could have been easily taken on that arc (and it would probably be better writing). It's right up her alley. She already broke the boundry to killing. She's the kind of person who wants to "make them pay". She got a bitter taste of just how much you can trust the police and then gets to watch lawyers and journalists dismiss her evidence as "not enough". She can never let go. She's brilliant at investigation (if clumsy; she's new). The only question is what she would do with all the information - and, well, it's not like she had moral hangups when she met Frank.

Frank reaches out slowly, giving Red all the time in the world to stop him. When Red doesn't move to do that, he takes his chin and pushes gently to turn, make Red face him. Then reaches further out to grab the knot of his mask. He pulls it off, and Red gasps at the sudden rush of air on his face.

Matt Murdock is looking at him with wide eyes.

"I did it because I was stupid," he admits. "I was young and my girl was pregnant, I needed a job. And there was an army rep in my high school; easy fix. I didn't think much about it. When I first killed, it was with a bullet, and it felt like nothing. My buddies were killers too. It was normal."

He takes a breath; releases it. "It only feels like something when it's your family that dies."

He never said that out loud. He never thought it out loud, clear in his mind. But he remembers the boy from his trial, yelling that Frank killed his father. He remembers Zubir Ahmad, innocent man he executed on command in Afganistan.

Monsters have families too. And most men who die in wars aren't monsters. They called us the American Taliban.

"I did a lot of terrible things when I was a soldier," he tells Matt. "I don't have enough in me to regret them. If you do..." he looks into Matt Murdock's face, eyes bare like his soul. "If you do, then you're a better man than anyone I've ever met."

"That blood you spilled doesn't change it."

-- yeah, that sounds like Frank xd. I like that he's getting protective of Matt already. For all his callousness, the man doesn't know how to not get attached.

I, uh... find it terrible and hard to believe that Frank would have named Matt after his blindfold and collar? I get what you're trying to do, but I think Frank would recognize that assigning someone an identity based on the exact items that make them a slave is exactly something that a very entusiastic owner might do. Just to drive the point. Just to force themvto think of themselves as "the red-collared slave". It seems very accepting of the situation Matt's in.

I'd be happy to see the fallout from that, maybe?

There’s a fic (part of a looong series) where Vanessa makes life hard for Matt & co, postS3, and there's pretty much nothing they can do (unless they break Matt's deal with Fisk).
Karen goes and kills her. Your prompt made me think of that scene!

But yeah, I agree that she would be more serial killer-like than the Punisher-shoots-everyone type.

You're probably right about the Red thing! I was like "maybe his glasses... who am I kidding Matt wouldn't have his glasses here" but, yeah, it's in poor taste.
By fallout, you mean Matt reacting poorly to that or Frank acknowledging later that he really shouldn't have done that? (Or both, actually.)

"Why do you call me that?"

Frank looks up. "Huh?" he says, intelligently. He was thinking about his plans for the night, and it'd been a while since Red last spoke to him.

"Red," says Red.

"You didn't tell me your name."

"So why Red?"

Red sounds genuinely curious, so Frank opens his mouth to answer... And stops.

Frank had gone with the first thing come to mind and hadn't stopped to second-guess it, but now that he has to vocalize why he's suddenly realizing that naming his slave like something that he's been forced to wear might not be such a great idea. "No reason," he lies.

Judging from Re— the man's expression, he doesn't believe him. Well, Frank had already figured that he's a smart one.

Frank hadn't even realized that he probably doesn't know his collar's color, or the blindfold's for that matter.

The now-unnamed man doesn't press for an answer, though. Frank would gladly ignore the why, but he knows full well what happens to most slaves who annoy their owners. He must be making a very poor job of showing he's not that kind of asshole. (Murderer, sure. Bully to someone defenseless? Not happening.)

"Poor decision making," he says at last. "I shouldn't be calling you that. Please pick a name yourself."

"You know that's not—" NotRed stops himself. "You can call me Mike." He doesn't seem happy at the admission, if that’s what it is. Or maybe he's annoyed at Frank not telling him why Red. Well, Frank feels shitty enough without actually saying 'I identified you with your slave status' out loud.

"Mike," Frank agrees.

If Mike's got anything to add, he's choosing to keep it to himself.

Frank should probably feel bad.

(He does—that’s exactly why he didn't want anything to do with this.
