Oh, wait, Mike doesn't have senses! LOL Whoops. Maybe there's a visual cue that lets him know they're undead Hand.

Maybe he doesn't have Matt's incredible level of super-senses, but... Knowing that they're identical twins, Stick probably gave Mike extra training trying to coax those traits out - probably made him learn to fight blind folded, maybe spend whole days blindfolded and well, probably some other things that were border-line abuse. Maybe he put him in that sensory-deprivation tank because of reasons...

Stick is pleased when Mikey gets his first 'migraine'....

One time he told him it was time to take his training to the next level. They left the orphanage and Stick knocked him out. He woke up in a completely dark room where Stick convinced him he had blinded him, because Mike would have knows a blindfold can come off and it wouldn't have worked. Kept him there for a week trying to coax the senses out of him. It worked, to a certain extent.

Meanwhile Matt was frantic because they had both disappeared. Mike never told him what had happened. And he was never quite the same after that.

Omg... LOL So messed up...

Maybe he used eye-drops that really did temporarily blind him...

Even better. Or a poison of some kind. I bet that's a thing he would totally have access to. Might even be standard training practice in the Chaste. And then not only is Mike definitely going to believe it because he's out in the world and can't see, but there is much more for his senses to focus on out there to bring them out.

If Matt did find out about this, he totally would've gotten Mike the frick out of there... He'd be so mad...

I wonder what a number it did on his head. Did a "World on Fire" light up? After he gets his sight back, is what he sees fire-tinged? Can he navigate like them in the dark? How badly did he freak when he thought it was permanant? And how messed up would it be that he still cared about what Stick thought of him? Maybe he thought Stick used the same chemicals Matt was exposed to in the accident... And maybe things were going so well, just to be sure, Stick gave it an extra week and re-upped the dosage... (like the drops were for show and harmless - what is causing the blindness is actually in some tea he's forced to drink.)

I bet it is one of the standard training methods of the Chaste on sighted people. (Though, somehow, I doubt he used this method on his Ellie.)

Maybe Stick does this right after he ends Matt's training....

Which would mean his brother disappearing at the same time Stick does, then coming back not quite the same. Maybe a little quieter, more withdrawn, and he just refuses to talk about it.

Could be the jokey, laid back personality later on is a direct result of him trying to get back to who he used to be.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-19 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe even though it was awful and terrifying, he thinks it was necessary and the right thing to do, because Stick actually messed him up that badly, he trusts everything he does is for the cause. Then he mentions it to Matt years later in passing and all hell breaks loose.

Oh, yeah... Stick did what to his brother??? Made him experience that level of trauma for what? Annoying super-senses?? Risked permanent blindness? Total freak out... And how is Mike ok with it??? omg. lol

Maybe years later Stick makes him drink the tea again willingly for a mission... And Matt encounters a blind Mike in the aftermath...

That's how he finds out about it. Maybe he doesn't notice at first because Mike has some experience at it, but his senses aren't as sharp and he slips up. Then he confesses he had almost forgotten how much it sucks to not be able to see, and maybe he'll lay off the switching the labels in Matt's clothes for a while ("you've been doing what to my clothes?!") so after convincing Matt it's temporary, Mike ends up spilling the whole story. But he still thinks it's okay because Stick says sight is a distraction, and as he's not lucky enough to be free of it permanently, it's okay to take it away when he doesn't need distracting.

Matt's famous temper comes out to play...

"Not lucky enough to be free of it permanently??? Do you have any idea what I'd give to be able to see the sky one more time???!" He sobs... "Mike..."

I bet Mike was also mislabeling the occasional canned food and some of the sodas, too... Of course, Matt doesn't really go for prepackaged food, anyway, it just sits in his cabinets, so the joke is more on Mike this time, while he crashes at Matt's...

Matt is going to totally have it out with Stick, but maybe that was Stick's plan all along.

Foggy stops by the apartment while Matt and Mike are both there and both blind... Foggy is like, dude, that's messed up... But, he's totally NOT leading around Mike the way he does Matt.

"Aw, please don't get like that, Matty, you know that's not me talking. I was just telling you what he said." He runs his fingers through his hair nervously. "I love seeing," he adds. "The sky's not that great though to be honest, dunno why you're so fixated on it."

Which is probably going to make Matt feel better and worse at the same time. And yes, food labels. Do you think Mike reads Braille? I bet he taught himself the basics, enough to fall for his own trick there...

Re: Where Matt has a real identical twin named Mike who is sighted and is Daredevil

(Anonymous) 2016-04-19 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely reads braille. I bet he had to set some things up for Stick and it would, of course, use braille labeling... That and I bet he views it as a necessary survival skill. Especially as he never knows when or if Stick might force him to drink that stupid tea.

That, and maybe the reason he had access to the labeler is he helped Matt with the grocery shopping... All part of putting away the groceries... LOL

Matt should probably ban him from that job...

(Anonymous) 2016-04-19 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
oh yeah, and he'd totally want to be able to pass his brother notes, so of course he made the effort to really learn it - those braille contractions and all.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-19 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Like in school, because the other kids couldn't pass notes to Matt, but Mike used to poke out Braille with a sharp pencil, backwards into a sheet of paper. And the best part was that the teacher had no idea what it said if they were caught.

Also, Mike became the class translator if one of the other kids needed to get a note to Matt.

I think the big deal about the sky is to do with his total lack of a circadian rhythm... To exist in a timeless day/night has got to hard. But, Mike should know this, considering... He just doesn't want to go there.

I bet Jack had them both study together, held them to the same rules... wanted them to use their heads, not their fists... and, well, Mike dropped out of school, so... I wonder if he has a chip on his shoulder about learning or if he's hungry for it... Maybe a mix of both.. Afterall, he has the same intelligence as Matt, Mr. Summa Cumme Laude...

I bet while blind, Mike wants to go out as the Man in the Mask/Daredevil... And, Matt's horrified... Daredeviling while blind, are you nuts?? LOL

I wonder if Stick knows braille, even 'conversational' (just enough to get around but not actually fluent if that makes sense. I dont think he reads it on the show. Maybe his line 'so you learned to run your fingers over the bumps, whatever. Smart doesnt come out of books' is part sour grapes.

Re: Where Matt has a real identical twin named Mike who is sighted and is Daredevil

(Anonymous) 2016-04-19 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Mike can totally read braille, too. It's a survival skill growing up around Stick. (Though, mostly, he read it with his eyes, not his fingers.)
