Daredevil Prompt Post #12

Mod Post | Discussion/Off-Topic Post | Writing Challenges
AO3 Collection | Fills: Completed & WIPs

All Rounds & Other Useful Links

This post is for prompts involving characters from Netflix's Daredevil.

Now that The Defenders prompt post is live, all crossovers between anyone in the four individual shows should go over there. Prompts only including characters that appear in Daredevil should still go here.

Rules:
  • General
    1. YKINMKATO. Play nice. Respect others. If you don't like something, scroll on.

    2. All comments must be anon. If you would like to be politely banned to avoid anon-failing, leave a logged-in comment on the mod post or pm the mod account.

    3. Subject lines should only be changed if you're posting a prompt or a fill (indicators like OP or Author!Anon should go in the body of the comment).

    4. RPF is allowed. Crossovers, characters from the extended Marvel Universe and comics canon are allowed, but must relate to the 2015 TV show in some way.

    5. Prompts focusing on characters from other Netflix Marvel shows or the comics should go on their respective prompt posts, but crossovers with Daredevil can go here.

    6. Drop a comment on the mod post if you have any questions or problems.

  • Prompts
    1. All types of prompts are welcome.

    2. Use the subject line for the main idea of your prompt (pairing or characters, keywords, kink).

    3. Warnings are nice, but not mandatory. Get DW Blocker if there's anything you really don't want to see.

    4. Reposted prompts are allowed once one round has passed - e.g. prompts from post #2 cannot be reposted until post #4. Please include a link to where it has been previously posted.

  • Fills
    1. When posting a fill, either add [FILL] (or something similar) to the subject line, or change the subject line to the title of your fill.

    2. Announce your fill on either the Completed Fills Post or the WIP Post.

    3. Long fills can either be posted over multiple comments, or posted on AO3 and linked back here.

    4. Multiple fills are always okay.

    5. Fills can be anything! Fic, art and vids are all welcome.

Please post any prompts related to Season 2 of Punisher over on the dedicated Punisher prompt post, and put SPOILERS in the subject line!

Re: miniscene (Red fallout)

(Anonymous) 2024-07-30 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)

Thank you!! I like the fallout scene. And I'm really glad that Frank didn't tell him the why. Matt probably hates it, because yeah, witholding something so personal as to "why is my name like that" is depersonalising. A clear stab of power over your mind and body, and I'm sure Matt felt that. But between two wrong choices, this is definitely the better one.

Also, I didn't realise he wouldn't know the colors! Whosh. That's a bit of a relief, finally. Unless someone comments on it, he might never find out. Someone probably will, but – oh well. One can hope. And we ARE here for the angst... 😈

Anyway. Yeah, I thought from the start that he would ask to be "Mike". It makes sense. He doesn't trust Frank with his real name, but he also doesn't want to give up on his identity. He's probably more lucky than most in already having the ability to choose something in-between.

I'd be up to continue, but I'm not quite sure where to go from here, I think it works pretty well as an ending!

I can see Matt crumpling at Frank's words. Maybe crying? (Oh Matt! KinkMeme who, this is clearly a WhumpMattMeme.)

Re: SNIPPET: Wesley/Matt gets kinda serious

(Anonymous) 2024-07-30 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I was going through old fills of old prompts and I found one that doesn't quite fit this prompt but goes close enough, I think?

https://daredevilkink.dreamwidth.org/725.html?thread=169429#cmt169429

Matt is blackmailed into doing things for Fisk (Daredevil kind of things, not sexual). Wesley decides that Matt is his (not in a sexual way either, at least not at first). Things happen.
There isn't Matt's pov, but I'd say it's not non-con. Probably dub because of all the context, but he doesn't seem to mind Wesley's attention.

Re: Karen makes Fisk suffer

(Anonymous) 2024-07-30 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Can you get me a link? That sounds interesting :)

Also - oh, my. Doesn't killing her also break the deal, though? Even if Fisk doesn't know it was Karen, he doesn't have a Vanessa to protect anymore. Without her safety on the scales, the deal is completely void, isn't it?

Re: miniscene (Red fallout)

(Anonymous) 2024-07-30 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"That red collar really suits your slave" and it goes down. Frank is lucky Matt doesn't kill or does he?

He's definitely luckier than most slaves, for all of Frank's (many) failings.

A little off-topic, but how do you think Matt would deal with having a slave? At this point we've seen a hundred shades of SlaveMatt, but I can't recall any (serious) OwnerMatt story. Only things that come up to mind are a pornlogic one where Matt, Foggy and Karen co-own Wesley and a short one where Karen is Matt&Foggy's slave and they wonder if she's poisoning their coffee.

I imagine there’s a world of difference between killing with a gun and using your hands or in close combat.

Did Matt kill another student because it was a fight to the death and the victor “graduated”?

Did he kill another enemy in the heat of battle with the hand?

Was it a training excursion?

How many more times did Matt fight and kill before he got out?

I can’t imagine Stick would abandon him in this verse considering Matt’s a killer. He’d probably just smack him and give him the emotions are weakness speech then force him to kill someone else.

How did Matt finally get out and why didn’t Stick drag him back? It must have been some sort of dramatic showdown for Stick to let him go.

I’m thinking Matt kills someone at Stick’s command and later finds out more about the person, that he was a good man, had a family, and now they’re struggling because he’s dead. Or maybe he was killed because he wanted to change and become a good man. He’d already taken strides towards that and then Matt had to fight him. Worse yet, the man was winning but when he realized how young Matt was, he stopped fighting. “You don’t have to do this. There’s good in you still.” “I forgive you”Are the man’s last words before Matt kills him.

He’s haunted by this and eventually defects. Becomes useless to Stick’s cause and Stick abandons him. After that Matt tries to pretend he’s a normal child.

Re: MINI-FILL part 3: Soldiers in the midnight

(Anonymous) 2024-07-30 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)

It's true - this works well as an ending to that scene. But I feel like we could write around it, make this into a full story instead of a one-shot. Here's a few ideas that come to mind:

  • something disturbed Matt enough to make him not just think about it, but talk about it, bring up questions and confess. What was it? What TF is going on in his life?

  • is Matt's past walking into his present? How? Does it meddle in his daylife? Does it touch Karen and Foggy?

  • Frank knows about a guy training child soldiers now, what does he do? He can't really hunt down a guy named "Stick" who may or may not be alive/on this continent/on this plane of existence. But I can't really see him leaving it alone either.

I don't think we can get very far with Secret War Against Undead Ninjas - it's too out there. But if Little Matt got tangled up in something gritty and street-level right here in New York--- yeah, I can see that working. It would make things much more complex than just "Stick made me do it", which is a definite bonus.

The obvious thing to do would be to have Stick come back. But it's obvious, so, you know. We can probably come up with something better. What did Matt get tangled up in? Was he fighting against some kind of gang, or did he fight for them? Did he commit crimes? (Well, murder, obviously, but besides that?)

Tell me what you think :)

MINI-FILL part 4 maybe?: Soldiers in the midnight

(Anonymous) 2024-07-30 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"I did a lot of terrible things when I was a soldier," he tells Red. "I don't have enough in me to regret them. If you do..." he looks into Matt Murdock's face, eyes bare like his soul. "If you do, then you're a better man than anyone I've ever met."
"That blood you spilled doesn't change it.”

“The last man I killed,” Matt starts, then stops for a long time. “The last man I killed, I found out later he was trying to do better, trying to get out. I didn’t know that at the time. I only knew that Stick ordered me to kill the traitor.”

Red pauses for a long time, and Frank gives him the time he needs. Red’s eyes, despite not being able to see, still reflect the anguished emotions he feels as he tells his tale.

“We were fighting one on one and he was winning. He was about to kill me when he pulled off my mask. When he realized how young I was he stopped.”

Frank was listening to Matt’s confession, barely daring to breathe. He suspected this was the first time Red had told anyone this. Nelson wouldn’t understand and Page, well she might but then she’d treat Red differently and Frank knew Red didn’t want that.

Matt continued, oblivious of the thoughts going on in Frank’s head. “I took advantage of his hesitation and broke free but he refused to fight me. He spoke to me instead. He said, ‘you don’t have to do this. There’s good in you still.’ I hesitated but Stick yelled out to kill him so I did.”

Matt was openly crying now as he continued, “His last words will haunt me to my dying days, ‘I forgive you’ is all he said before he died.”

“Later, I found out he’d been having second thoughts about Stick’s war, and was trying to quietly defect. He left behind a wife and child. I stopped fighting after that, became useless to Stick’s war so he abandoned me,” Matt finished.

Frank thought about this story. It made sense now why Red always sought the good out in people. If this cold blooded killer could change, and even forgive his murderer with his dying breath…. Then there was Red himself to consider. He had to believe in change since he’d done it himself. Frank didn’t know what to say in the wake of Matt’s confession.

Re: MINI-FILL part 3: Soldiers in the midnight

Yeah, it's pretty well established that guns make lives cheap. That's one of the reasons why murder rate in USA is so high - pretty much everywhere else we'd have to use knives. Can you imagine that? Taking a knife out of your kitchen drawer and attacking someone? I can't. But if it only took pointing a gun...

You're right that Stick probably wouldn't abandon him if Matt was a killer. But I think it also could have happened AFTER Stick. Matt had already been trained enough to be a small killing machine - or close to it. Now he's left to his own devices, with no direction or supervision, and there really isn't any reason to assume he went back to the nuns on that day. They essentially handed him to Stick no questions asked, does he even still come back for the nights? Would anyone even look for him? I don't think he'd go on a killing spree, but a small boy wandering the streets of New York night after night is a prime target for All Kinds Of Shit.

I'm just saying; stuff might have happened.

It should he this one! Like I said, though, reeeeeally long series. This is like the 6th story in it!

And yes, the deal is compromised anyway, so next there will be trouble 🔥
[Spoiler alert: the DA might magically get the video of Matt's prison fight scene from S3. Wonder how that happened.]

Aletrnative (even more mini-) MINI-FILL part 4

(Anonymous) 2024-07-30 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)

Red lowered his head as if in contrition. For a moment, it looked disturbingly like he was laying it for someone to cut off--- then, he curled in on himself, and Frank gathered him into his arms before he could crumble to the floor.

Fucking hell, was nothing ever good in the world? Why did this kid have to deal with that kind of shit?

Red - Matt - hid his face in Frank's shoulder. "I still don't understand," he said plaintively. It took a moment for Frank to compute what he was reffering - oh. The Question. Why did you do it? Matt didn't understand. And he never would, if Frank has anything to say about that.

"I know," he murmured. "That's what makes you a good man."

A sob. "I'm tired, Frank."

A chilling fucking sentence, considering the last time either of them mentioned 'tired'. Frank decided to take that literally. He patted Matt's shoulder as a tiny warning - "Up, kid." He rose and Matt obediently rose with him, still in his arms.

Now that street light engulfed them - yeah, he looked exhausted. Frank glanced around; Matt's appartement was definitely much more of an appartement than any of the other options, but Frank's hideout was closer.

"Let's get you home."

You're great at making it hurt, anon!

Aletrnative (even more mini-) MINI-FILL part 4.5

(Anonymous) 2024-07-30 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
It wasn't until the day after that he realised something more is wrong.

It was Tuesday, hours after the workday started, and the kid not only let himself sleep in - well, good - but he wasn't worrying about his office job at all.

He was either still in shock, or something was seriously wrong in Red's daylife.

This is all great! I was thinking along the lines of your first point, too. Matt's emotional outburst to Frank can't be apropos of nothing (or well, it could, but I don't see it being).

Your idea about Matt getting involved with a local gang after leaving Stick is great! And that could very well be why he's thinking back now (not that he ever stopped), or... Maybe Roscoe Sweeney comes out to play.
I always figured Elektra must have gone back to deal with him or something, because if not, what's he been up to for the last however many years not sending anyone after Matt? (For that matter, if the police got him, how comes no one questioned Matt or anything? I can see Sweeney not making his name, I guess, if he wants to deal with Matt himself.)

This is kind of derailing, and I saw there's a part 4 I'm going to read as soon as I send this comment, but I'll still say: the added angst of Elektra inciting ex-killer-Matt to kill his father's killer.

Yes! I really liked the part about the "traitor's" last words to Matt inspiring to this day, I'm glad you incorporated it.

(I assumed we were two anons talking/filling this, but it seems we're three now? Which is just as well, might just be confusing to figure out who's saying what XD. I'm the one who filled part 2.)

And he never would, if Frank has anything to say about that.
Yes! This is the Frank content I'm here for. Weirdly protective Frank for the win. If he manages to not throw Matt into the Hudson, even better.

The line about Matt being tired (and Frank's consequent thoughts) is pretty chilling. Great job!

Also the last minifill promises lots of angst. Is Matt not caring about his job because he doesn't have one (we're after S2 and assuming he's not lawyering after Foggy left) or because his past came back to haunt him and he needs to lay low? Would he even have warned Foggy, in this case? Probably not. I see this better placed after S2, what do you think?

Re: SNIPPET: Wesley/Matt gets kinda serious

(Anonymous) 2024-07-30 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
About your prompt/fill though. The line about the not so safe refuge in the storm hit me and I had a flash of Matt going to Wesley after Foggy finds out and leaves.

Then I remembered that happens a few hours after Wesley tried to shoot the Man in the Mask. So that's that.

So maybe Wesley is already lost in his own game at that point and recognizes Matt while Fisk fights him. And maybe not shooting/missing him isn't a mistake at all.

Awesome addition to my part 4 fill! I love how Frank gets all caring and takes Matt home.

Re: Aletrnative (even more mini-) MINI-FILL part 4.5

(Anonymous) 2024-07-30 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I think after season 2 is appropriate. He's cut off from Foggy and Karen and fairly isolated in life.

What do y'all think if it's sometime during the defenders series? He's learned about the undead ninja's, seen Electra come back to life but changed...

It's got to make him wonder about killing and murder and his role in all that. And since he's with Frank, he wonders why Frank started in this in the first place. Frank, who had a choice where Matt never did. Matt remembers how horrible it was to be forced to be a weapon and kill. He can't understand why someone would voluntarily do that to themselves, hence his original question.

Re: Aletrnative (even more mini-) MINI-FILL part 4.5

(Anonymous) 2024-07-30 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure about setting it in Defenders; yes, Matt would understandably be distressed, but would he really ignore Elektra? Even if she's changed, he's Matt. He can’t give up on her.

Unless maybe it's after the building collapses (he agreed to kill the Hand members, and while I think he could trick himself into not counting undead people easily enough, it could well make him think on murder). But he would have to survive somehow without being severely injured and brought to Clinton Church, so I don't know?

I liked the gang he's been involved with in the past idea.
