This post is for prompts involving characters from Netflix's Daredevil.

Now that The Defenders prompt post is live, all crossovers between anyone in the four individual shows should go over there. Prompts only including characters that appear in Daredevil should still go here.

General

4. RPF is allowed. Crossovers, characters from the extended Marvel Universe and comics canon are allowed, but must relate to the 2015 TV show in some way.

They didn't get him a real doctor. Not yet, anyway. Tony brought him resume after resume - never let it be said that Tony Stark lacked in resources - and yet Bruce couldn't bring himself to trust any one of them.

He remembered the white coats. He remembered them taking notes. He remembered himself---

But there was a difference.

Not a big difference, nothing that made him the better man, but significant. There was him, and there were others like him — and he could only control one of those.

"I need to discuss his results with him," he decided. The words seemed too big for the communal kitchen. But they were out now.

"You sure?"

If Tony thought he was hiding his worry well, he was wrong. Bruce gave him a smile. "I'll be okay," he promised.

Not a promise he was guaranteed to keep, but he would damn well try. He had practice keeping his emotions in check.

Tony was very obviously Not Happy with it, and Bruce had a sudden thought that Tony Stark had a really bad poker face when he was being serious. Staple of a man who never before stopped the party, maybe. But he also didn't fight him, and Bruce was ridiculously grateful for it.

"Do you need anything?"

So many things. And it meant more than Tony probably knew that Bruce was willing to say, "I'll let you know if I do."

He came to a sensation of something hard entering him. A plug, metal plug. Stretching him wider.

He didn't know the liquid was staying inside. "Mfhh..."

"Shh..." A finger run down his crack. "You are beautiful, Daredevil."

Matt broke down, and cried all over again.

I'm with Bruce, honestly: he might not be perfect, but it's hard to trust anyone else.

I wonder if Natasha will be able to stay while Bruce talks to Matt 👀

Poor Matt didn't know (so didn't agree!) the liquid would stay inside. For how long, I wonder?
And he keeps crying while the mystery person enjoys it 💔

(I just now noticed the man never called Matt by name, only Daredevil or pet names! 👀)

"I don't need a fucking slave!"
"I don't need a fucking owner, but here we are!"
Matt freezes. He shouldn't have said that, he knows better, but he's so fucking angry.
His anger, though, is rapidly being replaced by fear, and he hates it. He hates that he's been conditioned to be afraid of his owner, to be a good obedient slave for them, barely more than an object.
The mind controls the body, the mind controls the body...
He should be able to stop trembling, but he's not. His mind is full of the punishments he faced during training, and now his best weapon is turned against himself.
Suddenly there's a hand on his mouth, forcing him to inhale through his nose, how the hell did he not notice the man approaching? So pathetic.
"Breathe. Just breathe. Nice and slow, sync with me."
His owner's voice is weirdly grounding. He doesn't sound angry now. Matt doesn't know how he sounds, actually, he's trying to focus on obeying and breathing and calming down, but he knows that he doesn't sound like before.
"That's it. Keep breathing, slowly, perfect. Good job."
His panic recedes, he finally manages to get a hold of his traitorous body. He wants to say that he's fine—is he?—but his owner's hand is still on his mouth.
"Shit, kid. You okay now?"
Matt nods, and the hand leaves him. I'm not a kid, he thinks, but that’s not really a battle he wants to fight. Not now, anyway. "I'm sorry," he forces himself to get out. He's not sorry, but he has to pretend. He's supposed to be good at this, not losing his temper after five minutes of meeting the man he's been assigned to.
"Shit," is all the owner says. He doesn't seem angry, though—Matt is surer now.
"Please don't send me away," Matt pleads, because he knows what that would mean. He'd go back to the Institute, where the trainers would first punish him for failing so spectacularly—bring rejected by his owner on the very first day must be some kind of a record—and then retrain him anew. He can’t think of going through all that again. He can’t, not just because it'd be awful, but especially because Karen and Foggy are somewhere out there and being a slave gives him better chances to find them than being chained to his training cell would. He needs to find them and make sure they're safe, and if he has to submit to his owner for that chance, he will. No more losing his head.
The man curses again. He takes a deep breath while Matt keeps his head bowed down and waits for a blow. "What would happen to you if I did?"
Matt tells him. He's shaking again, and he hates it, but maybe it'll help in making his owner forget his previous outburst. Nothing but a pathetic slave here, definitely not a threat.
"I won't send you back," the man says after what feels like an eternity. He's not happy about it, Matt can tell, but he hardly cares.
"Thank you, thank you," he says, because he's supposed to.
The man sighs. "What was your name, again?"

This scene came out longer than I'd thought.
Anyway! I'm thinking to try and fill a few scenes, instead of trying to write the whole thing right away.
Let me know if you like Matt's characterization or if there’s something you'd prefer changed!

Eventually, strong arms gathered him in. A hand wrapped around his lenght and stroked, even though he went half-fllacid with the alcohol. Getting off would be a struggle. Matt pressed his face into the the crook of a neck, not really caring about that part.

He was too tired to care about anything at all. Exhausted far beyond any limits. The world swayed around him; it was pleaseant and terrifying.

He clung to his anchor like it was a lifeline, because it was. The arms held him closer. "I can't believe you wanted this," Weasley said.

"Shudd'up."

Wesley!! Yep, can see him doing that lol

But now I have so many questions about their dynamic 👀

Also, that opening line fucking hits. I didn't expect that at all. It was somehow hilarious with how surprising it was. And then it got emotional fast. Matt having a panic attack at his disobedience while also planning best ways to disobey again is so very in character.

Frank getting hands-on without warning to "calm him" by essentially gagging was shocking to me, and brutally reminded me of Matts status. Frank probably didn't quite realise what he was doing there.

About characterization — I imagined Matt more 'seething and hiding it badly' rather than 'shouting matches'. But still losing control and snapping sometimes, a lot like in your scene :)

I might be able to answer some of those questions, actually...

There's a prompt on the next page that I was thinking about when writing this. I'm not yet sure how to fill that one, though. It's more complex than just one scene. If you want to come over there and workshop it a bit, I'd be very happy ;)

Matt isn't Matt without rebelling thoughts xD

I took inspiration for Frank's reaction to Matt's panic attack from Dr. Frost, a webtoon about a psychologist (who feels next to no emotion because of a very particular brain condition). He does just that, shuts a girl with his hand to stop her from hyperventilating (and is then arrested, lol). Tactless but effective (in the immediate moment).
I think Frank might react like that even with people who aren't slaves, if he's in a hurry to stop their panic, but it sure has an added meaning here for Matt.

I'll have Matt more quietly (but obviously, Mr "we met Daredevil in the alley where we... *vague noises*" Murdock) seething in future scenes! (Which I have not yet planned, but I'll figure something out.)

What do you think about Karen ending up as Ben's?

I love Melvin too! For a character we see in literally three scenes he has surprising depth. I DON'T love that Betsy is his girlfriend — why is everything always about fucking fucking?? It would be SO much better if he was desperately trying to protect his parole officer-slash-social worker that "helps him when he gets confused".

Also, I don't think Melvin is fully able to consent...

I ship Matt pretty exclusively with Foggy — ships are an aquired taste for me, so I guess it makes sense that the most popular one is the one I learned to love. I'll accept Frank in a good story. I prefer them reluctantly-not-at-each-other's-throats, but there's very little of that, so. I can see him with Claire, too, though I don't know any good fics there. Claire is a pretty bare-bones character, so stories about her either won't work or will have to give us WAY more than the show did. I had one in the works, actually, but never finished it. Sometimes I still think about doing that one day.

Oh yeah, Matt + Natasha has A LOT of dark potential. I have to give it a try!

Chaining slaves to the wall would be, ekhm, a challenge to Matt. Might make him fight Fisk a different way most of the time...? That would be SO interesting to me.

Do you know Lost and found? It's a Matt + Foggy slave AU in which they never go beyond platonic. It's significantly heavier in tone than DfS and not worked on anymore, but boy, is that worth a read...

Oh, and I agree with you about consent issues in slavery. Not to bring a serious tone into all this, but I remember there being a certain US president that didn't consider it a problem... things like that actually happened in real life.

Going back to the more cheerful topic of grusome stories that are Thank The Gods fictional, this was my problem with that one Matt + Frank fic on AO3. I could be mixing things up here, but from what I remember — they get together seamlessly, like it's nothing. I don't neccessarily need Frank/Foggy/whoever to virtuosly refuse doing it with complete consistency — sometimes Foggy in DfS is a little too good at, well, being good for me to believe him — but I want it to be Problematic with capital P. Otherwise slavery is just an inconsequential prop for your romance story.

Also, in DfS Matt is almost physically unable to refuse an order from a free person even when he knows they don't mean it and Foggy is currently questioning if Matt didn't go along with their friendship just to pacify his owner, sooo... yeah. There's some consent issues there.

(I really love that tiny tibit in DfS where Matt is terrified that he may have been raped by Fisk. Even though it happened to him so many times before and he was forced to learn to accept that as his reality, just the idea that it happened again makes him Not Okay. It drives the horror of this kind of abuse home like few things do).

It... kind of occured to me recently that Fisk might have taken Karen for himself? He remembers her from the Union Allied debackle, such an interesting woman...

Ending up as Ben's (deliberately on either of their parts or not) works very well too, though :))

I love Matt/Claire! My first Daredevil ship 🧡
One great Matt/Claire fic is straightforwardly by finaljoy. It’s a soulmate au, but not a "oh we're soulmates so we love each other", the world-building is well done and I liked how Matt and Claire's relationship developed. Also you see colors when you meet your soulmate so that's 1) a huge surprise for Claire that starts seeing after fishing a masked man from her dumpster 2) Matt doesn't see colors! Ops! He doesn't know. (Something does change for him and I loved it, but he doesn't notice immediately.)

Matt unable to be Daredevil could rely on his hearing to spy on Fisk (and on his associates, if Fisk lends him for negotiations?) and then would have to find a way to pass the info on someone on the outside. Someone he blindly trusts, too, for obvious reasons, unless he manages to pass the info anonymously (which could be even harder of course). I'd love to read it!

Yeah, I wanted to like that Matt/Frank fic since it's the only one I found with Frank, but the fact they get together while Matt is so utterly broken left me bitter. I might not be happy with the lack of consent issues in some SlaveMatt/Foggy stories, but Matt isn't usually that broken there. I think a few characters raise their brows at Frank for his relationship with Matt, but still, I recall it to be too positive for how Problematic it really is.

Yes! DfS does a good job with the consent issues (even if yeah, Foggy is probably too perfect at times) and in depicting Matt's traumas. That part with and post Fisk was really chilling.

I saw that prompt! I skipped it because I'm not the right person to fill it, but your fill certainly made me think of it.

Hi OP! You might want to check the alcohol enema prompt fill on the previous page to get a taste of Matt/Wesley. It doesn't fill your prompt, exactly (it's just a scene), but it could fit it well.

About your prompt, though: does Wesley absolutely have to blackmail Matt? Or could Matt approach Wesley to get info on Fisk (and maybe Wesley knows that but lets him in close to play the same game).
Just workshopping ideas to see what could work.

I'll look up Straightforwardly! It sounds great. Worldbuilding is always do important.

I once read a Matt/Foggy story that had the same mechanism of revealing soulmates, and the same problem of, you know, Matt not seeing things. But the first personal thing that Matt tells him — before Foggy can reveal anything — is that he hates the idea of soulmates with the power of a thousand suns. He doesn't want one. So Foggy hides it. From everyone. For years.

There's actually more than one. I remembered two and one didn't count, since it was with Matt as a teenager - already not my stuff - and not only broken beyond any recognition but also conditioned to be an extremely literal pet who walks on all-fours, is non-verbal and barks and so on. Which just — no. Nope. Nope.

I'm pretty sure that one's The Gift, if you want to give it a try. No romance with the literal child and/or dog, but I didn't find that reassuring.

But if you search for Daredevil + slavery on AO3 you get a pretty good number of results and at Matt + Frank there is A claim and State Property. Possibly more, but these stood out to me. SP is the one I read, I don't remember reading AC. I don't remember Matt being extremely broken in SP, so, uh, there's that. But they still get together with no problem.

He doesn't absolutely have to blackmail Matt :).

I imagined this starting with dubcon (the path from which into even semi-romance is seriously fucked up, so I hesitated). Two predators approaching each other would also be really interesting and a little less, uh, Problematic when you get to the other side, so that would be great.

Also, I didn't consider it before but Canon Matt would DEFINITELY start romance with Weasley as manipulation tactic if he had thought it possible. Canon Matt is willing to do A LOT of fucked up shit for his obsessions...
