Rules:
  • General
    1. YKINMKATO. Play nice. If you don't like something, scroll on.

    2. All comments must be anon. If you would like to be politely banned to avoid anon-failing, leave a logged-in comment on the mod post or pm the mod account.

    3. IP Logging is currently on. Only the mod can see them, and the mod will only be paying attention to them when threads turn wanky and she wants to identify comments made by the same person.

    4. Subject lines should only be changed if you're posting a prompt or a fill (indicators like OP or Author!Anon should go in the body of the comment).

    5. RPF is allowed. Crossovers, characters from the extended Marvel Universe (excluding characters from Jessica Jones) and comics canon are allowed, but must relate to the 2015 TV show in some way.

    6. Prompts involving characters from Jessica Jones (including crossovers with Daredevil characters or the extended MCU) must go on the Jessica Jones Prompt Post.

    7. Prompts that are exclusively about the comics should go on the Comics Prompt Post.

    8. Discussion not related to the prompt should be moved to the discussion/off-topic post.

    9. Drop a comment on the mod post if you have any questions or problems.

  • Prompts
    1. All types of prompts are welcome.

    2. Use the subject line for the main idea of your prompt (pairing or characters, keywords, kink).

    3. Warnings are nice, but not mandatory. Get DW Blocker if there's anything you really don't want to see.

    4. Reposted prompts are allowed once one round has passed - i.e., prompts from post #2 cannot be reposted until post #4. Please include a link to where it has been previously posted.

  • Fills
    1. Put [FILL] or something similar in the subject line when posting a fill.

    2. Announce your fill on either the Completed Fills Post or the WIP Post.

    3. Long fills can either be posted over multiple comments, or posted on AO3 and linked back here.

    4. Multiple fills are always okay.

    5. Fills can be anything! Fic, art and vids are all welcome.

    6. If it wasn't written specifically for the prompt, it doesn't count as a fill. You are welcome to provide a link to already existing fic that does fit the prompt, in case the prompter hasn't seen it, but it doesn't count as a fill.

Re: Fill, Ipad's response to Opposite's impromptu slam (correct version)

"Oh god." Claire whispers, and, from the way her voice is muffled, Matt suspects she has her hand pressed in front of her mouth. The free Matt doesn't say anything, but his whole body is so rigid and still Matt wonders whether there is going to be an explosion soon.

He steps in quickly - apparently, even though he logically knows that the other Matt is *them*, too, the instinct to prevent free people from getting angry still persists - and stands next to Imperious, who (of course) seems to have gone back to kneeling on the floor. On some level, Matt wonders whether he does it on purpose, just to freak people out.

"Get *up*," he hisses to him under his breath (even though he sadly has absolutely no illusions that everyone but Claire will be able to hear him) "You're upsetting them. And besides, I can *hear* your knees creaking."

"We..." the free Matt swallows. "We *abolished* slavery here over a hundred years ago. Why the fuck is it still working in your world?"

"Seems to be equal-opportunity slavery, too," Claire mutters, and Matt for a moment curiously wonders what she means by that. Maybe in this world only women were enslaved?

"And why the hell would you care about reflecting badly on your *torturers*?"

"Sometimes you can't help it." Matt can feel the reply slip out without meaning to say anything, but now the attention is on him, heads turning. "I don't...I don't like making *Foggy* look bad, either," he says, grimacing.

(It's not that simple. Sometimes they *both* enjoy upsetting standards, being scandalous in Matt's lax treatment and revelling in the boggled stares and gasps. Once, they had been meeting with a potential client, who had not only utterly ignored anything Matt had said, but also asked Foggy several times whether any 'services' Matt provided in the office could also be taken advantage of right now, since he should put his mouth to use somehow. At that point, Foggy had very calmly, very quietly asked "Matt, do you think we should take Mr Vasquez on as a client?" and Matt had replied, cheerfully as anything, "No, Foggy, I think we should throw Mr Vasquez out on the street and laugh when he loses his ridiculous case." Which they had done and were still laughing about occasionally.)

"And it's *not* Stockholm Syndrome," he grates out next, because *that's* a conversation he doesn't want to repeat.

"...right. Okay, ignoring how fucked-up that is," Claire says, and Matt doesn't protest, because on some level he is aware that she's right, even if he thinks Foggy and him are still making the best of a horrible system here - he also shifts his focus to Imperious, whether he reacts to any of that - "what about changing that law? Because that shit ain't right."

"Or," the kid says, for the first time speaking up, in all the hubbub of voices, "what if you just...stay here? If you don't have a Foggy anyway."

Fill, Opposite's response

(Anonymous) 2015-12-18 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Matt grinds his teeth together for a second before forcing himself to stop, because the pressure of the weight that's distributed on his face makes it much too loud, and then he slowly lifts his head and changes the way his legs are to do a sit-up kneeling position, where the weight is more on his shins and calves than knees (because unfortunately the lawyer-version is right, his knees are too important to waste on free people who didn't react well to them, as terrifying as that was), and tentatively takes his hands off the back of his head, instead putting them on the front of his legs, to brace his weight upwards, spine straight.

It's not very comfortable and his heart starts to thud louder with fear, but he ignores it. Fear is useful sometimes and a hindrance other times, a knife without a hilt.

He formulates a quick plan of response, and makes his voice matter-of-fact rather than defensive when he says, trying to not let the anger show, "It is not torture when it happens to slaves. People are tortured, slaves are trained. And even if it were to have happened to a free person, it does not qualify as torture if it is very brief, and warned about beforehand, and carefully planned and executed so as to cause no harm, and padded before and after by luxuries, and for the explicit purpose of making someone better at the necessary skill of enduring pain and still being functional and able to think. One has to have a high distress tolerance as a slave or, well, break and die."

He turns his head to face where he's pretty sure Claire is. "And the constitution of the United States is next to impossible to amend, even for amendments that are not supported by popular opinion and political arguments of all parties, including the abolitionist party members."

Then he directs his attention and voice to the snuff-bait. He understood the snuff-bait's response well--the snuff-bait liked Foggy, his owner, and so what he had really wished Matt was for him to either have a nice owner as well, or else not be a slave, which would be insulting from anyone else, but from himself, it's more sad and sweet than anything else.

"That's a kind notion," he said, making his voice gentling in contrast to when he'd spoken to the snuff-bait earlier (it never pays to be rude to the favorite slave of free people, absolutely never), "But in a world where they did not reform slavery after the end of the American Civil War to be on the basis of debt collection, crime, protectionism, or parental rights to sell offspring, I would be...rather useless. And I would not like to be worthless."

Oh Snuff had sucha vaid point. Trying for opposite to stay here in the feree people's world where eh can be free but for opposite trhat's the greates disgrace to happen to him cause he is so used to being an slave and he is proud of it, he will feel useless.
the rest of teh slaves except fopr the mute one are own by Foggy and all thos e scenarios Foggy si an abolisionist trying to give them teh ebst opportunity an slave can have and Opossite feels that's worthless.

SA.
I think of Opposite like the Foggy slave on CSH getting used to being an slave.

Thank you for commenting!

And yeah, Opposite thinks of this as a dichotomy--be owned or be thrown away. He does not see the option of 'be free' as being real.

"Well, you might have to get used to it," the free Matt mumbles, "Seeing as I have absolutely no idea how to get you all home and out of my apartment."

"You...you mean...but - Foggy is waiting for me, I *can't* stay here!" the kid gasps and Issues, in that I-may-or-may-not-understand-what-is-going-on -way of his, gives a distressed whine.

"Hey, hey, hey," Claire raises her hands and tries to calm all of them down. "We don't know that. There's...scientists in this world we can ask."

"Let me guess," Matt says flatly, "Tony Stark?"

"Um. Yes?"

"Goddamn it."

"You don't sound like you want to return very much," Claire says and sounds like she has raised an eye brow to go with her sceptical tone.

"I..." Matt swallows. "I would very much like to stay in a world without slavery. But..." he grits his teeth. "I can't do that to my Foggy, either."

"Right. Well, at least there's some constants," Claire mutters and addresses Imperious, "You got someone waiting for you as well?"

'I wouldn't bet on it,' is what Matt *feels* like saying, but doesn't. Imperious has at least been nice to the kid version, so maybe he doesn't deserve that comment. Instead, he asks, "And what do you mean, useless? You have some skills, right? You're not a...pet?" he asks suspiciously.

("Oh god, a *what*" Claire mutters, and: "I don't even want to know.")

Matt swallows, his heart now going fast enough that he's worried he's panicking, but then at the lawyer version's question it flips on its side to a low, cold, controlled rage.

"Of course not, do you know what I did to the owner who tried to make me one?" he snapped. "That's not what--the question isn't about skills--it's about the fact that if nobody is willing to pick up a knife and use it, it's useless, no matter how sharp it is!"

Then his brain starts working again all the way, and he realizes the free woman--Claire, her name is Claire, he needs to keep his head afloat--asked him a question, so he opens his mouth and what comes out is quietly steely.

"Summer and Winter care," he said. "I'm not owned by Winter right now, but they care. They would notice if I stayed here, and miss me, and I would miss them."

And then he cuts it off before he can reveal more emotional vulnerabilities than is wise. Matt winces at himself; he must really be panicking if he's blurting things like that out.

I do wonder if Summer and Winter realy cares or they just car.e that Matt is the perfect slave and that somehow reflects on them.

The distress of teh Matt owned by Foggy is somethig kind of sweet. They know the reality they live is a hard one but they rather stay there with someone that shows them love or hope than being away ina world where they might be free but dont ahve that person with them. That person that means everything to them

Summer and Winter do love Matt, deeply and completely and unconditionally, and they regret the circumstances that led to him not being able to be owned by Winter permanently (tl;dr murder trial complications plus it would be kind of boring for Matt/Matt needs a reputation as being perfect/seasoned to get away with murder/Matt needed to fly the nest and have his own adventures). They would miss him if he suddenly disappeared from their universe forever. It's just that they made him into what he is today, at the same time.
