Previous Rounds: #1 | #2 | #3 | #4 | #5 | #6 | #7

This post is for prompts based on Daredevil and the surrounding MCU only. Any prompts involving characters or plot points from Netflix's Jessica Jones must go on the Jessica Jones Prompt Post. Prompts focusing on comic characters and storylines should go on the Marvel Comics Prompt Post.

Rules:
  • General
    1. YKINMKATO. Play nice. If you don't like something, scroll on.

    2. All comments must be anon. If you would like to be politely banned to avoid anon-failing, leave a logged-in comment on the mod post or pm the mod account.

    3. IP Logging is currently on. Only the mod can see them, and the mod will only be paying attention to them when threads turn wanky and she wants to identify comments made by the same person.

    4. Subject lines should only be changed if you're posting a prompt or a fill (indicators like OP or Author!Anon should go in the body of the comment).

    5. RPF is allowed. Crossovers, characters from the extended Marvel Universe (excluding characters from Jessica Jones) and comics canon are allowed, but must relate to the 2015 TV show in some way.

    6. Prompts involving characters from Jessica Jones (including crossovers with Daredevil characters or the extended MCU) must go on the Jessica Jones Prompt Post.

    7. Prompts that are exclusively about the comics should go on the Comics Prompt Post.

    8. Discussion not related to the prompt should be moved to the discussion/off-topic post.

    9. Drop a comment on the mod post if you have any questions or problems.

  • Prompts
    1. All types of prompts are welcome.

    2. Use the subject line for the main idea of your prompt (pairing or characters, keywords, kink).

    3. Warnings are nice, but not mandatory. Get DW Blocker if there's anything you really don't want to see.

    4. Reposted prompts are allowed once one round has passed - i.e., prompts from post #2 cannot be reposted until post #4. Please include a link to where it has been previously posted.

  • Fills
    1. Put [FILL] or something similar in the subject line when posting a fill.

    2. Announce your fill on either the Completed Fills Post or the WIP Post.

    3. Long fills can either be posted over multiple comments, or posted on AO3 and linked back here.

    4. Multiple fills are always okay.

    5. Fills can be anything! Fic, art and vids are all welcome.

    6. If it wasn't written specifically for the prompt, it doesn't count as a fill. You are welcome to provide a link to already existing fic that does fit the prompt, in case the prompter hasn't seen it, but it doesn't count as a fill.

First off, see below for one theory on why DD fandom seems to inspire more of these types of stories.

Second, is the implication here that leople are irritated by them? And that they should go to another fandom? Because if so, YKINMKATO. There's plenty of room for all kinds of fans here.

I mean, Matt/Frank is a NOTP of mine, but when the meme is full of prompts for it, I just shrug my shoulders and go "Whatever". That's just fandom.

Apologies if I did actually read the vibe wrong if it wasn't meant to imply that.

anon^^

There's nothing wrong with the prompts at all. Speaking in the general sense, YKINMKATO obviously always applies. Speaking personally, I've got no problem with the slave prompts as they are - they're not something I seek out, but I will skim the fills on flatmeme occasionally.

The thing I DO side-eye is people claiming that such-and-such is a massive ~trend in this fandom when, honestly, it's just a kink held by a small group of fairly prolific writers on a kinkmeme that has already shed most of it's general audience. Which is not a bad thing! I think it's great that these authors have been able to bounce their ideas off of each other in this space as much as they have, it's kind of cool to watch.

Bottom line is I am all for people posting whatever the hell they want on the meme. The more the merrier! But calling slave fic a hallmark of DD fandom? Eh. For all that some people are having fun with it here, I've seen one slave fic on AO3 and nothing at all about it on Tumblr. Gotta keep things in perspective, guys.

(note: this kind of generalization happens everywhere. two people on tumblr make bratty posts about how they hate a character and suddenly THE FANDOM hates this character, everyone is just awful. it doesn't even matter what fandom it is, the same thing happens over and over again like clockwork.)

very true about fandom generalization, but that discussion is gearing more towards the off-topic post.

AYRT - It may not be a predominant huge trend, but it's big enough that I would say it's noticeable. For example, we definitely have more Slavery AU fic being written than other tropes which are much bigger other places - A/B/O, Soulmate AUs, Sentinel/Guide. It's not super in your face unless you're on the meme, but I wouldn't call it insignificant either.

And there's at least three on AO3 right now that I'm aware of. Which given that there's actually very few DD fics really being posted there daily right now, again, isn't nothing.

Not that I don't agree with you that in the end, it really doesn't matter. The amount of romantic trope fic and pining and unrequited love fics dwarf everything else, really. And Slavery AUs certainly aren't as popular as the early Ranskahov brothers stuff, or Matt/Frank, or the Matt/Vanessa/Fisk stuff being written a while ago. The meme goes through phases and is a microcosm of the larger fandom.

I think any fandom trend is like that - there's very few fandoms where a trope is so dominating that it's totally in your face, but there are lots of interesting things going on a bit below the surface.

The anon who made the off-hand comment that started this whole discussion...
You actually summarized what I was trying to say fairly well. I really was just noticing that Slave!Matt was becoming a thing for this meme.
(So much pining. There is no escape from the pining!)

You've hit the nail on the head, anon. It just so happens that we've had a lot of slavery prompts one right after the other in one posts, and people who are actually willing to fill them. I think more than one of them are being filled by the same person.

ayrt: Hm, I for one love slavery AUs. I don't think people are irritated by them *yet*, or at least, I haven't seen someone complain yet, have you? (Although maybe the anon below is right and we *should* take this to the off-topic post...^^°) But for what it's worth, I found the explanation for the slavery kinkmeme-trend (and I think that's what it is - I haven't done any statistical analysis for tropes in DD fic on Ao3, but I think you can call it a current trend for the kinkmeme - though what would be interesting is whether the kinkmemes of other fandoms look different...) buut, yeah. Let's go to the OT Post?^^°
