- Announce your fill on either the Completed Fills Post or the WIP Post.
- Long fills can either be posted over multiple comments, or posted on AO3 and linked back here.
- Multiple fills are always okay.
- Fills can be anything! Fic, art, vids are all welcome.
- If it wasn't written specifically for the prompt, it doesn't count as a fill. You are welcome to provide a link to already existing fic that does fit the prompt, in case the prompter hasn't seen it, but it doesn't count as a fill.
Fill - You're the One I Wanna Go Through Time With
(Anonymous) 2015-07-18 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)“Just trust me, okay?” Matt urges. “I do this all the time; we’re not going to get in any trouble.”
Foggy heaves one of his long-suffering “I put up with way too much shit from you, Murdock” sighs.
“First of all, you go out as a costumed vigilante all the time. You get beat half to hell all the time. You beat other people half to hell all the time. You refuse to go to the hospital all the time. Simply the fact that you do something all the time is not evidence that it isn’t dangerous or stupid.”
Matt holds back a groan. They’re close, so close. All Matt has to do is get Foggy to step out that door onto the roof of the office building. There, in the night air, above what Matt assumes are the beautiful lights of Hell’s Kitchen, looking out over the city in which the were both born and raised, Matt’s finally going to do it. Finally ask what he’s wanted to for months - maybe longer. Actually get down on one knee and pull the ring from his pocket and ask. Foggy’s last minute trepidation is not ruining this for him.
“Foggy, c’mon. It’ll be worth it. I promise.” Matt hopes it will be worth it, hopes that Foggy will be delighted and tell him “yes, of course” and let Matt slip the ring on his finger. He hopes Foggy won’t hesitate, or stand there silently, or tell Matt that this isn’t exactly what he wants. Matt’s afraid he’ll say it’s too soon. Matt’s more afraid that he’s going to say it’ll always be too soon, that this isn’t going to work long term, that they’re having fun now but Foggy’s wants someone better when he actually settles down.
And Matt couldn’t exactly blame him. He wasn’t surprised when Foggy’s heartbeat and respiration picked up when they first met - plenty of people had that initial bought of attraction around him. He was shocked, however, when Foggy had actually wanted to spend time with him, liked him, became his first true best friend. And he had been absolutely floored when Foggy, awkwardly and with sweaty palms, asked him if he wanted, maybe to go out sometime. Not their normal best friend going out, but an actual date. And that it was okay if Matt said no and that this was probably really weird and not to feel any pressure and that if Matt wanted, they could pretend this never happened until Matt had said yes and made Foggy stop silent in the middle of his sentence.
Matt never knew how he was lucky enough to get to that first date. Foggy Nelson is incredible and funny and good, while Matt Murdock is a train wreck. He’s angry and moody and overprotective and constantly guilt-riddled and clueless about emotional intimacy. But Foggy didn’t care, loved him anyway, helped him work through it, made him better. Matt knows he wants to spend the rest of his life with Foggy, that he’s it for Matt - no one after is going to be able to hold a candle to him. He can’t possibly see how Foggy would feel the same way about him, but he hopes anyway.
“Look, I’m not afraid of heights, but I’m not exactly a card carrying member of the Heights Fan Club. I don’t want to go stand on a roof in the middle of the night. It’s dark and I could trip and fall and die.”
“I wouldn’t let you fall,” Matt promises. I’d never let you fall. I want to keep you from falling for the rest of my life. “It’s really pretty up there. You’ll like it.”
“How can you even know that it’s pretty?”
“I just have to focus, but I can feel the warmth of all the lights and sense the outlines of the buildings. So I almost know what it looks like. Come on, just do this for me.”
Matt places a hand on Foggy’s back and gives him a gentle nudge.
“Don’t push me!” Foggy snaps.
“I wasn’t trying to push you. Please, just come on.”
Foggy’s irritated now - he tends to get cranky when he’s trying not to be scared or sad. He turns on his heel and begins to make his way down the staircase.
“I’m not joining in on the late night roof shenanigans. I’m going home and going to sleep.”
“Please.”
Matt’s bordering on begging now. He wants this to be perfect, wants this to be beautiful. Maybe it’ll make Foggy more inclined to say yes. He imagines how it will feel, holding Foggy’s hand and feeling a ring on his finger. Introducing Foggy as his fiancé. Knowing that Foggy wants to spend the rest of his life with Matt too.
“Why the hell is this so important to you? Why should I go stand on a roof in the middle of the night?”
Maybe it’s because Matt’s lost in his own thoughts or maybe it’s because he’s so nervous or maybe it’s because he doesn’t want to wait to ask a moment longer, but he blurts out -
“I was going to ask you to marry me.”
Foggy stops. He turns around very slowly. His heart is racing but Matt’s pretty sure his is going even faster.
“What?”
Matt’s dug himself in this deep. in for a penny, in for a pound.
“I’ve been wanting to ask you for, well, a long time. I got you a ring and everything.” Matt fishes in his pocket and pulls out the small velvet box.
“Oh.”
Foggy’s heart is still going a mile a minute, but he’s doesn’t say anything else. The silence becomes uncomfortable. Matt finds himself rambling to fill it, mouth seeming to move independently from his mind.
“Look, you’re amazing and I love you and I know for certain that I want to spend the rest of my life with you. And I also know you could do a lot better but maybe you’ll be willing to settle. I’d try so hard to make you happy, to be anything you wanted, to be good for you. You don’t need to give me an answer right away, but just think about it, okay? I can wait. I’ll always be here if you decide you want to. But I just… I had to ask.”
Foggy is still silent. Matt finds that his mouth continues to move.
“I mean it would be good because then you could come visit me if I ever do end up in the hospital and you wouldn’t have to testify against me in court if that comes up. And my priest is a really good guy and I’m pretty sure he’d be willing to do the ceremony for us. He already knows about you because I talk about you all the time and he’s happy for us. And the church is really nice; you’d like it. And I don’t care what we do with our last names. You can take mine or I can take yours or we can just keep our own. I’ve also heard that some people swap, and that seemed kinda cool, if you want to do that.”
Still nothing from Foggy. Matt realizes what’s happening and forces himself to stop chattering. He crams the box back into his pocket.
“Okay, so that’s a no. That’s fine, really, that’s cool. We can just go home. Or I can find somewhere else to spend the night if you think this is weird now.”
Matt won’t have to find a place to spend the night. He’ll put on the suit and go prowl the streets, pick some fights. He needs to hit things, needs to get hit a a fair amount too. He’ll fight and fight and stay out until dawn and maybe when he comes home he’ll be so sore and tired that this won’t hurt as much.
Matt descends the staircase, needing to get out, to be anywhere but here. But Foggy stops him, his hand darting out to grab Matt’s sleeve.
“Yes.”
For a moment Matt’s heart soars, but then he realizes what Foggy’s saying.
“Okay, yeah, I’ll go somewhere else tonight. That’s no problem.”
“Not yes to that, you dummy. Yes to the other question.”
Now Matt’s the still and silent one, but it doesn’t last long. In a moment, Foggy’s kissing him, hands gentle on his face, thumbs stroking his cheekbones. Matt tangles his hands in Foggy’s hair and tries to kiss back, but he can’t keep from smiling. Foggy pulls away and rests their foreheads together.
“Sorry about that,” he says. “There was this whole monologue running in my head that went something like ‘yes, of course, absolutely yes, let’s get married right here and now’ but it never actually made it into words.”
Matt laughs.
“If I weren’t so happy, I’d probably never forgive you for what you put me through in the last five minutes.”
“I’m sorry. For once in my life I was actually speechless. But the answer is a very definite yes.”
Matt kisses the corner of his mouth.
“Can we do this right then?”
Foggy nods, Matt gets down on one knee and pulls the box from his pocket.
“We’re not doing this on the roof?”
“Dramatic effect’s kind of ruined, don’t you think?” Matt takes a deep breath and continues. “Franklin Nelson -
“Seriously? You really have to do the full name thing?”
“I said we were doing this right. And stop interrupting me. This is important.” Matt shoots him a mock angry look before continuing. “I’ve adored you from the minute I met you and I love you more that I ever thought was possible. You are the most incredible, beautiful person I’ve ever met and if you let me, I want to spend every moment of the rest of my life making you happy. Will you please do me the honor of marrying me?”
Matt can feel the warmth of Foggy’s blush.
“Yes, Matt. Absolutely, a million times, yes.”

(Anonymous) 2015-07-19 03:00 am (UTC)(link)I also love that Matt was trying to be all romantic with the rooftop proposal and then they got engaged in a stairwell! Matt got on one knee in a stairwell and asked Foggy to marry him and it was amazing! I loved it! Can you imagine when people ask them how they got engaged?
Seriously, thank you again. I felt so happy and giddy after reading this. I just loved it. :)

Matt’s bordering on begging now. He wants this to be perfect, wants this to be beautiful. Maybe it’ll make Foggy more inclined to say yes.
--- Awww, baby, you don't need to coerce him into accepting with pretty lights. ;_;
“Oh.”
--- OH MY GOD FOGGY. "What?" and "Oh" are THE WORST ANSWERS TO GIVE A PROPOSAL, YOU ARE GOING TO KILL MATT WITH PANICKED SELF-DEPRECATION.
“Sorry about that,” he says. “There was this whole monologue running in my head that went something like ‘yes, of course, absolutely yes, let’s get married right here and now’ but it never actually made it into words.”
--- *dies laughing* OF COURSE, Foggy, oh my god.
“We’re not doing this on the roof?”

--- Ahahahaha, Foggy clearly got his voice back. xD
