So Matt's out Daredeviling and gets his head scrambled - magic or science or a good, solid knock, whatever - and gets found by Fisk and Vanessa. (Maybe he was fighting Fisk?)

Anyway, he comes to and they realize he doesn't remember them, or Daredevil, or much of anything, so obviously they lie to him and take him home with them.

Maybe they have some vague plans about getting Daredevil to work for Fisk's criminal empire, but after however long of Matt languishing in their bed looking cute and pathetic, that train of thought gets derailed in favor of sexytimes.

I need this, precious.

Yes. Good. I'll take 11 of these.

...I just keep thinking "bomb, in a place where everyone's gathered as civilians."

and Matt gets hit with (magic!) bomb and wakes up forgetting Daredevil, sure, but also forgetting to play real-world blind, even in his civilian clothes: "oh no, civilians, I gotta make sure you - and you - and you! are all okay! we need to get to safety! this way! sir! ma'am! come with me!" *faceplants on street*

"this could be useful," fisk says, and vanessa's like: DO WANT.

Man, that would be amazing, and it makes perfect sense.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when characters in amnesia fic default to 'real world normal' when they get amnesia. Like, if Draco Malfoy suddenly lost all his personal memories, he wouldn't suddenly think magic isn't real. Dean Winchester wouldn't suddenly not believe in monsters. He might forget that other people don't believe in monsters, but he's not going to revert to a worldview that he never actually inhabited.

So it makes complete sense to me that amnesiac!Matt would just assume that his own experience is normal, and someone should definitely write it, because it would be hilarious.

YES.

I mean, I personally have a thing for Matt Murdock, Really Blind for 20+ Years, but I also have a thing for Matt Murdock, Secret Superpowers for 20+ Years and Comically Overestimating Baseline Human Ability, to the tune of

"what, you can't smell that at all? i figured everyone was just being polite," and

"...ooohhhh, that's why you build apartments so close to airports," and

"...you really don't mind it. at all? AT ALL? I mean, I assumed the "cotton" ads on TV were elaborate practical jokes."

This is the story of the most fortuitous bombing that ever happened to Vanessa Fisk.

"Wait, no, wait, don't - " Murdock said, holding both hands out as he walked towards Vanessa. She didn't drop the gun, because generally speaking, Daredevil didn't touch her, but the last time he'd run into her husband, Wilson had returned with a broken arm and a towering rage. "Ma'am, I know you're - you're afraid," he said, cocking his head. What? Blood dripped from his temple; he weaved across the debris, looking wobbly, but putting his feet down perfectly. He'd lost the suit jacket, and the glasses had come off; he looked terribly young, and serious, and concerned. "My name's - my name's Matthew," he said, "I - I want to help you get out of here, we can't stay here."

"What?" Vanessa said; was this a game?

"Ma'am," Murdock said, seriously, "are you all right? you need to - we need to move, the ceiling's going to come down. You can keep the gun if it makes you feel better, but - sir, you need to -"

Wilson pushed Murdock back.

"Get away from my wife," he said. Low. Barely controlled.

Murdock made a confused face, cocked his head to the side, and swore, very quietly, before simply shoving Wilson back towards Vanessa and lunging to follow him. He didn't make it all the way; the drywall collapsed, and one of the studs fell across his leg.

"Ow," he whispered. "Ow. You - you can't hear that? The whole thing's gonna collapse in a minute, you need to get her out of here," speaking directly to Wilson.

"Yes," Wilson said, and seemed to come to a decision; he pried the debris up, straining. Murdock'd twisted his leg, badly enough to leave him panting with pain and unable to stand on his own. "Can you walk?" he asked Vanessa; she nodded. "Can you?" he asked Matthew, who shifted his weight uneasily and winced, shaking his head. "Very well," Wilson said: "can you lean on me, or do you need to be carried?"

That was really when it hit Vanessa, that whatever had been in that bomb had scrambled Murdock's brains, because he took a testing step or two, holding tight to Wilson's arm, and groaned, and sighed, and said: "I can't walk, carrying me is going to slow you down, sir, you need to go."

He allowed Wilson to pick him up. Until then, Vanessa had been harboring the secret certainty that Murdock had simply been unbelievably dedicated to his cover, but as it was? No. Impossible. Something had happened - he'd hit his head? The odd purple smoke had - had had some sort of chemical effect? - but Murdock had forgotten that they were enemies, somehow.

i love how sincerely baffled vanessa and fisk are by matt's sudden lack of antipathy toward them, and poor amnesiac matt all confused because why won't they let him help them?

I am so happy that this prompt got picked up. Your brain-scrambled Matt is really well portrayed. He's still stupidly self-sacrificing, even at a default ground-state. Vanessa's point of view is also fantastic because I'm really keen to have this story filtered through her perspective. I am very interested to see where you take this.

Wow, this is so great. I am really looking forward to more of this.

Surprisingly very hot, as a concept. ;)

This is a fantastic start. I love the idea of Matt being brain-scrambled - but more than that, the idea of Vanessa and Fisk seeing him as he is to other people. I can't wait to see where you take this.
