Previous anons have already said so much about all the things I loved about this and picked out the parts that also jumped out at me but I just wanted to throw this in:

"Two weeks later, an attack destroyed the greater part of Tokyo...Murdock called Steve that night and asked how soon someone could come and get them.

It's Foggy that talks Matt into this (even though it terrifies him) and it happens after they watch half of Tokyo being destroyed. Just awesome!

Ouch.

Foggy constructs the whole thing so carefully too, provoking Matt but not lying to him. All of it engineered to drive Matt out of Hell's Kitchen with his own death as part of the catalyst.

It's just perfect that it all comes undone on the one thing Foggy doesn't predict. Forgiveness.

So despite the title, there didn't turn out to be as much focus on the fainting as I'd intended. But there is a bit, each one of these scenarios spinning out directly from this prompt. Forgive me for taking so long to actually post the link; I hope you get to see them if you haven't come across them already.

Oh, man. Not too late! I just completely forgot! I've been really out of fandom this past year because of a whole mess of real life crap (work, school, housing issues, injury/recovery), but it was really great to see this in my inbox! So glad to hear people are still finding and reading this!

Chicken pox can be dangerous for adults if you didn't have it as a child unless you got it as a child and then got it as an adult... Its rare but you can have it twice. I did. At 8 months old, I got chicken pox and got a very weak immunity from it. I developed a mild case of chicken pox in college but didn't get a second case when my younger brothers had it when I was a kid.

What if it's a missed diagnosed or a recent addition type disorder?

I was never diagnosed as autistic because in the 80's girls didn't get autism. Only boys did until the reclassification in DSM-5.

Or maybe it's always assumed the Foggy was clumsy but no one figured out he has SAM type 3 or 4. Spinal Musculature Atrophy where his nerves don't work well so he loses muscle tone and has problems holding things or standing for long periods of time. They also have trouble coughing or blowing their nose to loosen up mucus or fluids. My cousin sometimes has this moaning raspiness to her breathing when she has a cold. Foggy Breath!!! That's why they him Foggy, he can't clear his lungs and they thought it was asthma?! But it's more serious then that.

I know I'm late to the party but I had an idea. A variation or explanation to why the devil doesn't rescue Murdock.

There is a trope about someone selling their soul to the devil in Hells Kitchen, that's why Daredevil protects the area so fiercely. Maybe there are rumors that is why Daredevil does not/ can not protect or rescue Murdock. Because the deal between the devil being on Earth protecting Hells Kitchen was struck by Murdock and if the devil rescues Murdock, the spell breaks. Neither wants that, it's said.

People are definitely still finding and loving this, and wistfully daydreaming about Parts 6 & 7. You've got an excellent fic here, a lovely concept beautifully executed. Well done! *hearts*

I love the story that you've managed to write, truly. Concisely, it's about two friends having drifted apart, lived their own lives separately and have come back into each other's lives and having to learn to adjust to being strangers that are getting to know each other again. It's beautiful.

But I may be overly sensitive, and that's on me, but Matt's choice to be a vigilante had the repercussion of making Foggy a victim of violence. And i get that you're illustrating that Matt hadn't taken it very well, and out of sight is out of mind. The people that have stayed, all they can see is Matt's spiral and the fallout of Foggy having left--not what prompted him to leave.

But I am mad at Kirsten's initial conversation with Foggy after realizing who he is (wanting to kick him in the face, but begrudgingly coming to conclusion that maybe he didn't deserve it), Marci's and Karen's conversations with him--that they are mad at him for leaving. That after physically healing from his injuries, Foggy should have stayed to tend to Matt--to reassure him that the act of torture was okay and completely not Matt's fault (exaggeration on my part-I know that's not your point).

That to be broken and allowing one to make decisions that are easy and are actually in one's own self-interest is unforgivable? That Foggy's torture was terrible, but not nearly as much as the effect it had on Matt?

I just get the vibe of victim-shaming and I hate it. And like I said, I'm probably being overly sensitive, but that just has been my take away from their conversations--and that interpretation is entirely on me and my own issues and probably not at all what you intended. I could have and probably should have steered away from leaving a comment at all, but I just needed to put my thoughts to words.

This really is beautifully written. But not my cuppa. Thank you for sharing, nonetheless.

Sorry to be so late to the party, but due to Trans Matt being my default headcanon, I can’t help but imagine Fisk forcing him to choose which hole he fucks.

This took a hundred years, and I can only hope you actually get to see it.
