Wow, don't tell any actual Southerners that you consider D.C. Southern. *I'm* not Southern enough for many of them, and at least my state fought on the correct side of the Civil War to earn that title. (Okay, so Maryland was kept under martial law to prevent it from joining the C.S.A.)
And D.C. was a COMPROMISE, as being about halfway in the middle of the then existing states, north and south. (Also, it was swampland, but that doesn't have much to do with this.)
Yes, but we could blame Karen for dismissing Urich's concerns and taking him to the nursing home under false pretenses. Even when he calls her on it, she doesn't back down.
(And don't tell me she didn't expect Fisk to be a murderer. She KNOWS he is, which is WHY she's pushing this. But Ben has been trying to mentor her since the beginning of their partnership on the *smart* ways to do this. She doesn't want to listen, because she thinks the info they can find is too important. So she lies to him. Yes, I can definitely blame Karen for endangering Ben, and dismissing his priorities, and LYING.)
And yeah, I get that that's a cornerstone of Karen's character: she *doesn't back down*, even after people think she's no longer a threat. (Just like Murdocks always get back up.) For good and ill.
But she's such a cypher this season that it's frustrating. Personally, I don't think Karen deserves to know everything she demands to know, particularly when she's trying to hide whatever is in her own history, and I would give a lot to have had more actual bonding moments between her and the avocadoes at law, because most of what you get are just really odd, tense dating/not-dating? scenes between her and Foggy, and lusty/flirty ones between her and Matt. (The drinking the eel night is the only exception I can think of, and about the only reason I can stand Karen at all.)
Also, I'm afraid for next season, because I think she'll take what could be a great character growth moment for Matt--him actually choosing to tell someone about the senses, instead of being backed into it by circumstance (as happened with Claire and Foggy)--and steal that from him by pushing, pushing, pushing. Because she's Karen, and her past is allowed to be a mystery, but nobody else's is. Also, because so far, she's a rotten love interest. I would be more comfortable with the character if they didn't go there.
(Incidentally, I love Claire for saying, nope, not happening. THANK YOU, CLAIRE, FOR BEING BOTH ATTRACTIVE AND SMART. THE KISS WAS GOOD, BUT THE WAY YOU DIDN'T ALLOW IT TO TAKE OVER YOUR BRAIN WAS EVEN BETTER. BUT THEN YOU STILL HELPED MATT OUT. YOU'RE AWESOME!)
It might be nice to put a note in at the beginning, saying where the fic is in canon. Not all of us have the resources to watch DD in one fell swoop, and we might want to read some fanfiction before we get to episode 13.
But that's just a personal thing. I tried to stay away from things that would spoil me too badly, but I wasn't all that surprised when Fisk ended up in jail anyhow. (Just like nobody was surprised when, after all his angsting, Matt failed to kill Fisk and there were multiple episodes left of the show.)
Phase 1: Oh, sweet, perfect idea! I should write this down/screenshot the prompt and paste it into a Word document! Man, this is gonna be awesome!
Phase 2: Hmm... I'm kinda half/half on this now... let me just write/plan out a bit of this ((this part is tricky - I plan things out, but if I'm not 100% on the idea, I might write a bit from the scene in particular I was thinking of. Sometimes I don't plan, and just write, if it's an idea that's kinda 'bleh' and a mini-minifill sort of thing))
Phase 3: Okay, you've started it, you have to finish it. *3 hours pass* Okay, maybe just a paragraph.
Phase 4: You've started this. Finish it or else you are nothing but human trash.
Usually I either constantly promise myself I'll finish it and just ignore it. Occasionally I'll push myself to end it, but that's usually with minifills or stories I really, really want to do because it just sounds so cool and I feel guilty for not writing it.
And the terrible thing is Stick never explained anything about that war. Poor bb Matt wasn't training for anything more intense than Stick's approval.
Poor bb Matt! What's really horrible is comics Matt ends up being super protective and cares about Stick even after Stick ditches him. My heart can't take it. I want to be thankful for Matt's ridiculous skills but I absolutely hate how possessive and mean Stick is with Matt.
I know this might not quite be the place for this, but I recently moved to a new city away from my family and I've been kind of low. The amount of time I spend crying about the commuter train full of shelved dreams and the way my new colleagues don't say 'bless you' when somebody sneezes or even 'thank you' most of the time when someone passes them a pen or something (and not because I haven't been away from my sister for so long before and I don't know when I'll see my Gran next, of course not) is inversely proportional to the amount of time I spend on this meme.
So thank you for keeping me company. I've been in fandoms for years, but I really feel like this one's the friendliest.
If possible, do visit a comic shop. The person behind the counter will probably be helpful and they're usually fun to talk to, and the rise of comics piracy and Amazon are killing these nerd oases.
AYRT Realistically, the third episode of the show would've taken place over 1-3 years. Even if Fisk pulled strings to speed things up to an unrealistic degree, it would've taken 6-8 months. On the actual show it was probably a couple of weeks (Matt had time to heal up all the way, but Claire is still cat-sitting in the next ep). So, I think you can argue that the MCU canonically has a speedier criminal justice system.
"No, I'm pissing my pants. There is actual urine in my trousers."
ok so i feel like an idiot, but i just never really exactly got what this line meant?? like contextually i get that foggy's saying "yes, i want to do this" but the "pissing my pants" bit, does that just mean he's wetting his pants with excitement??
Fear actually. Foggy is utterly terrified about what the future is going to hold because this is a MAJOR risk but he trusts Matt and thinks this is the right thing to do so he's doing it.
But he's still wetting his pants a bit with fear. Or exaggerating that he is to show exactly how scared he is.
(Don't feel like an idiot, we can't get every single line of a show)
in a couple of those close-up shots of the diorama it looks a lot like matt is wearing booty-shorts with tights underneath, i know nothing about comics!daredevil so i assume he doesn't wear booty-shorts and it's just a fold in the material but i can't un-see it and i love it.
Yep, pretty much feel the same way. Such a bunch of wonderful people, and I totally LOVE the way that kink, slash and gen coexists, and it's a total non-issue.
He does indeed wear booty shorts as part of his costume. It's always been a play on his father's boxing gear (with the taped hands and long, laced boots sometimes). I guess his booty shorts need to be skin tight because of his acrobatics not allowing much for floppy clothing. TBH I'm very fond of Matt's very sleek body in art.
...You know, originally, I was taking this post in the facetious way it was intended, but you know, with judicious application of "Steadfast Tin Soldier" imagery, macho!Frank/ballerino!Matt could actually have the makings of a really powerful, tragic story.
sa - sorry meant to add that his new devilsuit appearing later this year is a black bodysuit, I didn't see booty shorts, but the taped hands and long, laced boxing boots are making another appearance. I like it. :)
