This post is for prompts involving characters from Netflix's Daredevil.

Now that The Defenders prompt post is live, all crossovers between anyone in the four individual shows should go over there. Prompts only including characters that appear in Daredevil should still go here.

General

4. RPF is allowed. Crossovers, characters from the extended Marvel Universe and comics canon are allowed, but must relate to the 2015 TV show in some way.

I keep circling around Matt's enslavement story and come up mostly empty-handed.

I think reducing his time makes sense; so much is shocking to him, and he's still so bold. I think it would be a great worldbuilding strategy to have Matt (and Karen, from a different end and perspective) learn about how things are in real time in front of our audience.

I don't think I want Matt white-knighting for someone else. That would make him a little too different to everyone else I think, a little too noble and innocent and perfect. I don't want him to stand out so much, it feels forced. I think he did commit whatever deed he's being punished for, big or small.

One thing that your take-the-fall idea though — the little girl story.

I'm not sure yet if I want to go there, because showing the utter injustice of the system by having him be punished for small theft or something else non-violent and inconsequential appeals to me. But it could make sense story-wise to sink him into Fisk's arms just after he was about to become The Devil. Gives readers a firm grasp on timeline, too.

Another possibility is - not just when he was about to become the Devil but just AFTER he became the Devil. Maybe.

So, still unsure, but those are the options that come to mind for me.

I think it would depend on who asks, and who they ask for. I don't think Fisk would have a problem with lending out A slave, but for some he would find it distasteful. Which means it also depends on how the asker phrased it and what is the (stated, at least) cause of asking.

I don't think he would lend one of them to Russians, ever.
I think with Leland he might hesitate, but find it slimy and ultimately refuse.
I don't think he would agree to anyone that says they want to "have some fun with them". "Enjoy company" or "spend the night" might be a different story, though.
I think he might lend even James (with a "heavy heart") to the Chinese or Japanese, if diplomatic need and/or gain was high enough. He might even use it as an opportunity for some ploy, like having James spy on them (for something specific, like and answer to a question) for a day or something.

All that said, I think he'd likely at least try to lend a 'pleasure slave' instead. And he might even propose them to the Russians, to smooth over some conflict or sweeten a deal. I think if it was possible in canon, that would definitely be something he'd add-on when Russians argued with him and refused the deal that Anatoley tried to agree to later (and died).

Now to the pleasure slaves.

Yeah, I think Fisk does have a few "pleasure slaves" on hand. He might even own one or more brothels - very common for crime syndicates, to control prostitution.

I think he might have some high-end ones for his high-in-command employees

(which is maybe what prompts the manager to want Karen so much, he's below that tier and resentful about it, he thinks he should have one and it should be that bitch)

and some regular milling about or something to manage "the stress" of the low-end employees.

(Which makes me want to add a NEW OC AGAIN xd)

And all of that is making me think about Vanessa.

So, in DfS, Vanessa clearly considers (some) slaves to be art. And I think that's in character for her.

So I think she might be involved in an "art gallery" here. I don't want it to be anything explicitly cruel or crude, just... a collection of people that she has do "artful things" and "makes into art" in some way or another.

And I think she considers the boundry between "art" and "pleasure" blurry around the edges anyway, but is also willing to simply step over that line. She runs something like her own side-operation of artful high-end diplomatic spy-prositutes or something.

(Which, again makes me WANT MORE OCs xd)

And when she proposed that to Fisk, he was hesitant, they had an "I want to be involved" conversation a'la season 3, she says some bullshit about "passion being intrinsic to art" when Fisk dislikes the idea of involving his pure wife in brothels, and Vanessa gets her way as she always does.

And maybe we can have her introduced when Fisk proposes a "prescious object" from her gallery to someone? I don't know. Still thinking.

My main problem with Matt having already become the Devil would be that it'd change a lot of his story here, if we go with canon (that happens after law school, Matt knows Foggy); we could, of course, have Matt become the Devil right before Law school. But, I don't want him to be convicted for a violent crime. Theft would be better, I'm just not sure what Matt-about-to-start-LS would steal and why? Or what other crime he could commit. (It shouldn't be violent not just to highlight the system's injustice, but also because Fisk/Wesley would know what he's capable of. I want Wesley to find out later and possibly Fisk to not know at all, especially if we do have him go out as the Devil later on.)

Maybe Matt goes to an anti-slavery protest and is arrested there? Idk.

Yes to all the pleasure slaves part (the envious manager!!).

Vanessa could directly supervise the brothel. And use whichever slaves she deems art for her expositions. (Maybe Matt and Retsuko will be involved in one of them, down the line.)

Fisk would never deny Vanessa, but I can see James redirecting any lending request to their pleasure slaves. "This slave is very busy and wouldn't be good company anyway, but I'm sure you'll find our specifically trained slaves perfectly adequate."

Yeah, I pulled away from canon a while ago. In my mind Matt just doesn't get to Law School, ever. I'm not even sure if he has the opportunity to consider it.

But, anyway.

I think TV canon says that F and M meet after undergrad, since they both introduce themselves as law students. It's pretty established in fanon that they meet first day of any kind of college in general, though.

If we want to be cruel about it - they knew each other in undergrad and were friends, then Matt was enslaved and Foggy went to LS, now they are in the same firm and don't know about it (yet?)?

I'd considered Foggy seeing Matt and being like "Isn't that Jadon's aid?", at some point! But I wasn't too convinced.

Or Matt and Foggy could have been friends before Matt's enslavement, and now they're here on opposite sides (at least in theory) and they don't know. That would make for an interesting reunion.
But we also already said we don't have a lot of space for Foggy I'm this story, which I'm fine with, but if they used to be bestfriends that should probably be explored. At least a little.

(If we do go down this road, I think Foggy might start out being okay with slavery as a punishment [remember his nice comments about wanting to hit the Man in the Mask?] and have his arc centered on seeing all that's wrong with the system, finally acknowledging that no, slavery isn't a good idea ever.)

Yeah, that was my thinking. I don't think they have to be Best Friends (TM), but they could be friends and/or roommates.

I'm also fine with them being semi-friends while Matt's a study aid. That would probably affect Foggy's thinking on slavery though, right?

I think we can think about things and see if there's room for them later, no worries :)

Re: Foggy learns slavery isn't good. I would go one step further and have Karen pull him into her learned way of thinking about how societies should work. We can have them have paralel learning curves: Foggy is learning Slavery Is Not Ok while Karen already knows that, and so is learning that We Should Take Care Of People As A Society. And eventually, their curves cross, and Karen takes Foggy for a ride.

(Could involve fierce speeches and such, I would love that).

I mean, our audience already knows slavery is not okay, even if F doesn't. As a story, we're just catching up with the norm if we stop there. But if we go beyond, then the "moral of the story" becomes (potentially) transformative to the reader.

(I'm bored on the bus and this scene came to mind, but we can totally scrap it!)

"Matt!"

He doesn't stop; he can't.

"Matt, buddy, come on——" Foggy is relentless.

"Don't do this," Matt tells him tiredly. He keeps his face down, gaze (hopefully) on the floor—he misses his glasses. "I can't—" He breathes. "It’s not like before." He carefully avoids saying Foggy, but he can’t bring himself to call him sir, either.

"It doesn't have to change, Matt—"

"It already has." Matt keeps going, ignoring every instinct that tells him to stay there. Slaves don't have friends.

Sooner or later, Foggy would have left him anyway.

Oh, God, this is painful. Foggy would definitely do something like that. And Matt would do _this,_ too.

I think I want that backstory now :)

I'm glad you like it! Matt+Foggy angst is just so tempting.

Alright, I'm gonna try to answer everything I've missed now; I edited all the previous fills incorporating the changes we made (the first one has the most substantial changes; I added "Mr Wesley" and swapped Juana with Lillian), I'll post it later since we don't have a shared document yet.

Read it if/when you have time, it doesn't add much, and also we can still edit and change it later of course. But I guess I felt inspired!

Btw, YES to Karen taking Foggy for a ride.

Seeing that he witnesses Matt, his friend, being enslaved, he probably resents slavery already, but I think he'd tend to see it a bit like an exception? Like, "The system clearly did Matt wrong, and maybe/probably wrongs other people too, but it's overall okay, bad criminals deserve it." Foggy gives me this impression, anyway—he cares when it gets personal.

So Karen could show him that no, actually, slavery fixes exactly nothing and only serves rich people who profit off it. (And everything else.)
