This post is for prompts involving characters from Netflix's Daredevil.

Now that The Defenders prompt post is live, all crossovers between anyone in the four individual shows should go over there. Prompts only including characters that appear in Daredevil should still go here.

Rules:

General
1. YKINMKATO. Play nice. Respect others. If you don't like something, scroll on.
2. All comments must be anon. If you would like to be politely banned to avoid anon-failing, leave a logged-in comment on the mod post or pm the mod account.
3. Subject lines should only be changed if you're posting a prompt or a fill (indicators like OP or Author!Anon should go in the body of the comment).
4. RPF is allowed. Crossovers, characters from the extended Marvel Universe and comics canon are allowed, but must relate to the 2015 TV show in some way.
5. Prompts focusing on characters from other Netflix Marvel shows or the comics should go on their respective prompt posts, but crossovers with Daredevil can go here.
6. Drop a comment on the mod post if you have any questions or problems.

Juana's daughter followed her into slavery.

I'm not entirely sure how this went. These are options I'm struggling to choose between:

You can "sell yourself" into slavery in exchange for money that your kid gets when they come of age, and Juana did that.
You CAN'T "sell yourself" into slavery. But Juana got herself purposefully enslaved anyway, by committing a calculated petty crime. It was a very risky move and she and her daughter both went through hell because of it. But eventually, she became a domestic slave and could take her girl with her. Which meant they were both slaves, but her girl would have a dry place to sleep in, a meal every day and that right to full education that James lost.
Juana was tossed into slavery on account of being too poor to function on her own. Her daughter had been just below the cut-off point, and she had begged/bribed with everything she had left (possibly her body)/been offered the mercy of changing her birth date by the city clerc. (She doesn't know if it would have been better or not for her girl to go into fostering. At the time she had to choose, so she did.)

Juana has made some hard choices in life, she payed some irrevercible prices for them and her daughter did too, but ultimately, she can't regret them. She was desperate, and she did the best she could think of in response.

She hasn't seen her daughter since she came of age.

I think you can sell yourself into slavery; I could see many poor people having to do that as their last chance to avoid starving (for them and their family).

That, or the too poor to function option; I can see this government choosing slavery to deal with poor people, exactly like they do with (most) criminals.

So maybe Juana's daughter was enslaved as well. But maybe she'll appear as a free person, when she does. She got freed somehow, and maybe she went looking for her mother, but she'd changed owner since then and was nowhere to be found. (In Fisk's home.)

Yeah, I think I'm leaning towards _too poor._

What do you think happened with Juana's daughter since? How/why does she come back into Juana's orbit? Is she there only briefly? Does her "visit" have consequences?

What is her name?

Her name might be Julia? Feel free to suggest another!

Maybe she became a student-aid but was then freed, unlike Matt. And she managed to graduate.

I'm leaning towards psychology for her degree, so maybe at some point someone will need a psychological evaluation and she'll come in? (Someone could well be Matt, or maybe the newly-deafened slave having trouble adjusting to her disability.)

I think Matt might meet her (and find out somehow?), but Juana wouldn't be allowed anywhere near. Which wouldn't sit right with Matt.

How about Adria? Short for Adriana. I'm looking for something visibly hispanic, while also simple and relatively unassuming.

Also — I've been thinking about our Young Deaf Asian Slave Woman (We need to start making acronyms, lol). I was wondering if maybe Fisk asks Nobu to "provide" them someone and that's her? But Fisk doesn't trust Nobu and wouldn't want to give him an "in" or to mutilate someone brought in by Nobu without consulting him first. Also, everyone around Nobu is a ninja, so... Eh, I don't know. Still thinking.

Anyway - she's deaf and nobody talks to her, she doesn't seem to talk, (and may or may not speak English) so for a very long time, Matt doesn't know her name.

So he names her Hope.

(Cue tragic statements like "Where is Hope?", "I lost Hope", "There was only Hope left" etc:))

But eventually he slips that to James, and James tells him that her name isn't Hope. It's Retsuko, which means Fury.

Thoughts?

Adria works! Or I was thinking Tina (short for Valentìna). But I like Adria.

Nobu could indeed provide her, but then: would she be a ninja? Would he send her to spy on Fisk or just get rid of someone he doesn't need to cultivate a good relationship with Fisk? Maybe she failed the ninja test or whatever the Hand ninjas do.

Retsuko would be a pretty symbolic name! I like Matt calling her Hope. He's still hopeful in spite of everything, and Hope's life didn't end at the deafening either.

What would Retsuko think of Matt or like, her new life in general?

I guess what she'd think depends on who she is, and how much she really knows.

Does she speek English? My mind is on everyone thinks no, and our readers think no, but then half a book later she says something in English and it's a serious reveal. I'm not sure though. If she can't hear, what does it matter that she could technically understand? Hm, maybe if we involve reading...?

I don't want her to be a (maybe failed) ninja. I don't know, ninjas are stupid. But maybe? I think I'd just like to come up with some options for now.

So, okay. Who is she? What ideas and possibilities come to your mind?
