This post is for prompts involving characters from Netflix's Daredevil.

Now that The Defenders prompt post is live, all crossovers between anyone in the four individual shows should go over there. Prompts only including characters that appear in Daredevil should still go here.

General

2. All comments must be anon. If you would like to be politely banned to avoid anon-failing, leave a logged-in comment on the mod post or pm the mod account.

4. RPF is allowed. Crossovers, characters from the extended Marvel Universe and comics canon are allowed, but must relate to the 2015 TV show in some way.

My main problem with Matt having already become the Devil would be that it'd change a lot of his story here, if we go with canon (that happens after law school, Matt knows Foggy); we could, of course, have Matt become the Devil right before Law school. But, I don't want him to be convicted for a violent crime. Theft would be better, I'm just not sure what Matt-about-to-start-LS would steal and why? Or what other crime he could commit. (It shouldn't be violent not just to highlight the system's injustice, but also because Fisk/Wesley would know what he's capable of. I want Wesley to find out later and possibly Fisk to not know at all, especially if we do have him go out as the Devil later on.)

Maybe Matt goes to an anti-slavery protest and is arrested there? Idk.

Yes to all the pleasure slaves part (the envious manager!!).

Vanessa could directly supervise the brothel. And use whichever slaves she deems art for her expositions. (Maybe Matt and Retsuko will be involved in one of them, down the line.)

Fisk would never deny Vanessa, but I can see James redirecting any lending request to their pleasure slaves. "This slave is very busy and wouldn't be good company anyway, but I'm sure you'll find our specifically trained slaves perfectly adequate."

I like this ambitious OC!

(I'm just not sure how she'd fit with the main plot? Beyond her interactions with the main cast)

Copy pasting my old comment I somehow found:

Maybe she became a student-aid but was then freed, unlike Matt. And she managed to graduate.

I'm leaning towards psychology for her degree, so maybe at some point someone will need a psychological evaluation and she'll come in? (Someone could well be Matt, or maybe the newly-deafened slave having trouble adjusting to her disability.)

I think Matt might meet her (and find out somehow?), but Juana wouldn't be allowed anywhere near. Which wouldn't sit right with Matt.

I was thinking about how to have Adria re-enter Juana's world, and I thought maybe Fisk finds her and brings her in - as a threat to Matt. "I have your friend's daughter," essentially.

She could be brought in as a slave or an employee, offered a ridiculous amount of money (like N&M for Healey) to make sure that she comes. And/or she could be openly offered a re-union with her mother. A little of both? I like a little of both.

She can absolutely be psychologist. I like it :)

I'm not sure about the 'it's very easy to free a slave' thing, I think we should think it through before we decide. Later, though. I'll have a thread on that for us too.

But.

I keep wondering what happens to kids-of-slaves when they come of age. They've been given full education and are only here because of their parents, so maybe they are given a chance to "make it" in the world? I'm not sure, but it feels right.

(Gets complicated with James, though...)

I think we might be able to combine some things, maybe.

I'm not opposed to Fisk being involved, but I wonder why he'd take such an interest in Matt? I mean, he's awful at laying low, but he should be able to pretend a little during the Meetings (I hope).

Fisk deafening Retsuko to punish him and then bringing in his friend's daughter just to threaten him more seems a bit much. Matt is a slave with very little power and freedom, if Fisk really wanted to have him put in his place he could easily have him constantly chained / threaten him with his friends directly, without involving a lost daughter. Don't you think?

We would need to add like a Vanessa-half to Fisk's other-half of the whole fic, I think.

Maybe Retsuko sleeps in the Gallery, though? She's kept away from the quarters, she has to sleep somewhere.

I think Retsuko is distinct from the Gallery but maybe the boundry gets fuzzier with time, a'la that 'would he lend her out' question.

Maybe the Gallery is involved in some quiet war with Gao's thing, and that's how we meet Chinese slaves? We mentioned far above that we might want some OCs from Gao, but so far there hasn't been room for them.

I'm not sure if there's room for all this is our fic either, but let's talk and see?

Maybe as a parallel fic.

I think Retsuko's deafening and bringing Juana's daughter would be far between each other. Retsuko almost at the beginning, Adria almost at the end. I kind of expect things between Matt and Fisk to escalate at some point, though maybe it's Man In The Mask and Fisk though. And Adria is used against _him_ somehow? Maybe like Elena, she was causing trouble (or her mother was causing trouble), so it was convenient to use _her_ against Mask, and Matt having a personal connection is incidental.

Not sure, thinking out loud.

The conflict might well be between Fisk and the Mask — if it was with Matt, it'd be too unbalanced. Fisk wouldn't have to threaten him to put him out of commission; the second he finds out the Mask's identity, it's over (unless Matt goes on the run, but that would be a whole other thing).

I guess we'll see where the plot brings us!

Yeah, I pulled away from canon a while ago. In my mind Matt just doesn't get to Law School, ever. I'm not even sure if he has the opportunity to consider it.

But, anyway.

I think TV canon says that F and M meet after undergrad, since they both introduce themselves as law students. It's pretty established in fanon that they meet first day of any kind of college in general, though.

If we want to be cruel about it - they knew each other in undergrad and were friends, then Matt was enslaved and Foggy went to LS, now they are in the same firm and don't know about it (yet?)?

That's the thing though, isn't it - Matt secretly goes against his own owner, hiding his identity and risking EVERYTHING with nothing but a thin cloth to protect him.

I feel like that's inevitably where he'll end up, if he does put the mask on.

And, yeah, the moment Fisk has his identity it's over. He doesn't need to use Adria against Matt.

But he might want to use her against the Devil, if we play our cards right.

(I'm just not sure what "right" looks like yet - you're right, we'll see with the plot:))

A parallel fic might be a good idea at this point, honestly! It'd be pretty interesting to explore all this.

I guess Retsuko might sleep in the Gallery, if it's adjacent to Fisk's building? I wouldn't want her too far removed from Matt & James. And I'm sure they could give her a room in Fisk's building, if need be — pretty luxurious to have her own room (like James does), but it can easily be done.

I'd considered Foggy seeing Matt and being like "Isn't that Jadon's aid?", at some point! But I wasn't too convinced.

Or Matt and Foggy could have been friends before Matt's enslavement, and now they're here on opposite sides (at least in theory) and they don't know. That would make for an interesting reunion.
But we also already said we don't have a lot of space for Foggy I'm this story, which I'm fine with, but if they used to be bestfriends that should probably be explored. At least a little.

(If we do go down this road, I think Foggy might start out being okay with slavery as a punishment [remember his nice comments about wanting to hit the Man in the Mask?] and have his arc centered on seeing all that's wrong with the system, finally acknowledging that no, slavery isn't a good idea ever.)

I think moving around becomes easier with time. You can't really tightly control a 100+ people who have little to do with their time. I don't think you get chained to the bed in collective slave quarters, or even that quarters are locked. You're a slave anyway; where would you go? Not sure about the collar thing; we didn't fully discuss what collars are like, so it depends.

In my mind James isn't involved, but does figure it out, and decides to look the other way. Maybe saves Matt's after some particularly stupid move where he would inevitably be exposed. Maybe forgets to lock doors every now and then. Leaves a key behind. Things like that.

If Fisk ever does catch Matt, yeah, the fight will be over for Matt. It's really way too soon to say, but right now it wouldn't seem bad to me if Fisk got Matt (maybe he locks him up somewhere while he decides what to do with him, or to torture him), unknowingly putting everyone else in motion. James, Retsuko, (others?) would have to act together to rescue Matt/make Fisk go down for good. (I need happy endings so they would succeed.)

But anyway. One step at a time xD

Yeah, that was my thinking. I don't think they have to be Best Friends (TM), but they could be friends and/or roommates.

I'm also fine with them being semi-friends while Matt's a study aid. That would probably affect Foggy's thinking on slavery though, right?

I think we can think about things and see if there's room for them later, no worries :)

Re: Foggy learns slavery isn't good. I would go one step further and have Karen pull him into her learned way of thinking about how societies should work. We can have them have paralel learning curves: Foggy is learning Slavery Is Not Ok while Karen already knows that, and so is learning that We Should Take Care Of People As A Society. And eventually, their curves cross, and Karen takes Foggy for a ride.

(Could involve fierce speeches and such, I would love that).

I mean, our audience already knows slavery is not okay, even if F doesn't. As a story, we're just catching up with the norm if we stop there. But if we go beyond, then the "moral of the story" becomes (potentially) transformative to the reader.

Yeah, I did kinda think "hey, wouldn't THAT be a nice escalation point..." xd

Kinda like shit went DOWN just before the happy ending in S1 finale. It's a good structure, breaking point where you just have to watch pieces fall and see where they end up.

I was honestly thinking the art gallery would be in the mansion. Which was pretty silly of me, but maybe some rooms are...? I don't know, I thought at least some of it would be a "private pursuit" or a "pasttime" for Vanessa that she would keep close to home. And that would probably be the part they put Retsuko in, considering her special status.

Also yes, there's like, SO MUCH to play with. I would love a paralel fic.

It's not punishment, more like A Talk.

He gets essentially 'told off' in the form of — "This is what you are, so BEHAVE."

Matt does something and there's tension all around and he expects to be punished. So do our readers, we keep them at the edge of their seats. What's gonna happen NOW??

Then instead of a punishment, we drop this little bombshell on Matt, not only leaving him with ringing ears but also the audience.

What do you think?

(I'm bored on the bus and this scene came to mind, but we can totally scrap it!)

"Matt!"

He doesn't stop; he can't.

"Matt, buddy, come on——" Foggy is relentless.

"Don't do this," Matt tells him tiredly. He keeps his face down, gaze (hopefully) on the floor—he misses his glasses. "I can't—" He breathes. "It’s not like before." He carefully avoids saying Foggy, but he can’t bring himself to call him sir, either.

"It doesn't have to change, Matt—"

"It already has." Matt keeps going, ignoring every instinct that tells him to stay there. Slaves don't have friends.

Sooner or later, Foggy would have left him anyway.
