Daredevil Prompt Post #12

Mod Post | Discussion/Off-Topic Post | Writing Challenges
AO3 Collection | Fills: Completed & WIPs

All Rounds & Other Useful Links

This post is for prompts involving characters from Netflix's Daredevil.

Now that The Defenders prompt post is live, all crossovers between anyone in the four individual shows should go over there. Prompts only including characters that appear in Daredevil should still go here.

Rules:
  • General
    1. YKINMKATO. Play nice. Respect others. If you don't like something, scroll on.

    2. All comments must be anon. If you would like to be politely banned to avoid anon-failing, leave a logged-in comment on the mod post or pm the mod account.

    3. Subject lines should only be changed if you're posting a prompt or a fill (indicators like OP or Author!Anon should go in the body of the comment).

    4. RPF is allowed. Crossovers, characters from the extended Marvel Universe and comics canon are allowed, but must relate to the 2015 TV show in some way.

    5. Prompts focusing on characters from other Netflix Marvel shows or the comics should go on their respective prompt posts, but crossovers with Daredevil can go here.

    6. Drop a comment on the mod post if you have any questions or problems.

  • Prompts
    1. All types of prompts are welcome.

    2. Use the subject line for the main idea of your prompt (pairing or characters, keywords, kink).

    3. Warnings are nice, but not mandatory. Get DW Blocker if there's anything you really don't want to see.

    4. Reposted prompts are allowed once one round has passed - e.g. prompts from post #2 cannot be reposted until post #4. Please include a link to where it has been previously posted.

  • Fills
    1. When posting a fill, either add [FILL] (or something similar) to the subject line, or change the subject line to the title of your fill.

    2. Announce your fill on either the Completed Fills Post or the WIP Post.

    3. Long fills can either be posted over multiple comments, or posted on AO3 and linked back here.

    4. Multiple fills are always okay.

    5. Fills can be anything! Fic, art and vids are all welcome.

Please post any prompts related to Season 2 of Punisher over on the dedicated Punisher prompt post, and put SPOILERS in the subject line!

Re: Fill, maybe...?

(Anonymous) 2024-07-22 08:43 am (UTC)(link)
I get that! Attraction is confusing. I'm still not exactly sure how romantic attraction is supposed to feel, but I am reasonably confident that I don't feel it.
I don't mind sharing, it's just hard for me to define how it is to not feel something instead of feeling it. I guess... When I was a kid, kids my age talked about having crushes, so I wanted to jump on the train too. I couldn't decide who my crush was among like three classmates I found nice. Kind of a shocker finding out later on that you're not supposed to pick who you have a crush on!

In general, I've never been very interested in finding a romantic partner (sex was never in the equation, I didn't know the words and I assumed I was hetero [everyone is, no?], but I was and am sex-repulsed so I always knew I didn't want that. Not when I was so young at least, maybe I would have wanted it in the future... spoiler alert: no). I don't feel butterflies in my stomach, whatever that means. I don't want a romantic life partner.
I would be very much down for a platonic one, but I'll try to stay on track XD

I'd say, being aromantic for me means that I treasure my friendships more than anything. I don't understand the world's obsession for romantic love, I wish I could understand my friends' suffering when they are single/pining for someone they barely know but have a crush on, but I just don't get it. I don't want to marry, I don't want to kiss.
Of course, some aromantics feel differently.
[I'm not even completely sure I'm on the far end of the aromantic spectrum; I think I might be demi—I would have felt romantic attraction exactly once, for my exbestfriend—but I am not sure because: attraction is confusing.]

Welp, here's to oversharing XD

I'm happy to find a fellow ace on the kinkmeme, too! It really feels like "what am I even doing here" reading some prompts here, but then there are others who are really interesting so.

Okay so I realize I don't really know much about USA but WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY MAKE CHILDREN RECITE LOYALTY POEMS EVERY MORNING??? this is seriously so messed up. And scary.
I guess that also explains some things.

But yeah, some of S1 themes were interesting, too bad that they weren't developed like they should (like the gun debate, yep, what even was that).

Ok so this interests me, but I can't come up with anyone who Matt would have killed.
Except obviously for Fisk but I figure Frank would know that? Maybe?

So, do you have anyone in mind?

I was thinking more along the lines of "this is a thing unique to Matt", but if you want to go at it with trans Matt, sure, go on!

Hey, Red 👀

Poor Matt and Karen. Poor Foggy (really tragic that his two friends have no one else).
Did Frank kill "they" yet? Is he going to and Matt has to defend his rapists?

Re: Foggy prepares defence for Matt

(Anonymous) 2024-07-22 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)

It's called "plegde of allegiance". In front of every school there's a giant pole with a US flag on it, and every morning, for their entire education, from seven to eighteen years old, they have to gather in front of it and recite their loyalty to the flag. If they don't, they get punished. Might not be allowed into class, that's an accepted and pretty standard form of punishment.

So if a child consistently doesn't want to declare loyalty to the flag, it's a waiting game until that child realises they're not going to graduate and breaks, or, well, doesn't graduate and also breaks, only in a different way. This includes migrant children and kids obviously being actively mistreated by "the flag", like Black teens that get pretty consistently killed in the street.

(I know that's another shocking phrase, so - USA has a persistent murdererer-cop problem. Incidents when a Black man, teenager or even boy gets shot dead walking down the street for "looking suspicious" happen regularly, about a 100 every year. So one every 3-4 days. An 11 year old playing in the park was killed that way a few years back. Cops who do that are typically not punished by the law and continue to be cops.)

(Jesus, it doesn't sound real, does it. I know all this and putting it so plainly shocked me anyway. But it's true, there's a non-exhaustive list of those killed here:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_unarmed_African_Americans_killed_by_law_enforcement_officers_in_the_United_States)

(I tried to find the name of that boy from the park, because I couldn't remember, and it turns out a different 11 year old had been recently shot by police — in his home, after calling 911 for help. Also an 8 year old girl, and a 15 year old kindapped boy they were supposed to be rescuing. The one I was thinking about was Tamir Rice, apparently he was 12. Also there was Trayvon Martin, who was hunted down by his white neighbor, who wasn't a cop. He wasn't punished by the law either. Those are just (some of) the famous cases, and only the young ones. That list from wiki gives a better idea - 2023: January 3, January 7, January 17...)

Generally, if you ask "how bad is it?" about USA, the answer is almost always "worse."

This is also why I have some compassion for US soldiers — they have military representatives visit (poor) high schools, convincing them to sign up. You only have to be 17 to write off your life in a legally binding contract and be sent to either kill or die. Funnily enough, you have to be 21 in USA to drink.

USA is predatory about it to the point of military units having PR and movie departaments.

And the army is pretty much controlling what can be in all the other movies, too. To make a movie about the army you need the army, so they get to read the scripts and edit them as they please. You have to be VERY determined (and rich) to make anything but hero-worship about them in Hollywood.

Re: Foggy prepares defence for Matt

(Anonymous) 2024-07-22 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)

By movie departements I don't mean just the censorship, I mean their own actual movie crews.

I remember watching some promotional biopic about a happy recruit who got trained to be a camera operator and is now living out his movie-making dream in the army. Moral of the story was explicitly "we have so many different careers, you can be anyone with us (just give us full control over your life and body first)". We'll train you to it from 0 to 100, exactly as we want you to be and also dependent on us for education and career. Somehow, the movie-makers thought that was good.

To me it sounds like making an army-society, which... yeah. That fits.

I was thinking in childhood, though not neccessarily under Stick and forced into his holy war. You can't win a fight with a grown man when you're tiny, unless you make them stop completely. And that's before we even consider that to knock someone out but stop short of killing them takes some SERIOUS skill that you definitely don't have at 12.

If Matt ever fought — willingly or no — as a child, people died. And I don't think he could have ignored every cry for help between 11 and 30.

There's at least one version of Matt out there that had been a tiny serial killer 20 years ago, and is now very careful to NOT be.

Re: Foggy prepares defence for Matt

(Anonymous) 2024-07-22 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
...yeah, I knew it was bad but the USA situation is definitely WORSE than I thought. I'm speechless.
And I'm definitely viewing the homeschooling in a completely new way now.

Also the drinking age being 21 while being able to sign off your entire life to the army at 17 is ridiculous. In a bad way, but ridiculous.
Yeah, kinda hard to blame kids for making poor life decisions I guess.

Re: Foggy prepares defence for Matt

(Anonymous) 2024-07-22 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)

People who homeschool their children do it to indoctrinate them into far-right ideologies. IT CAN ALWAYS GET WORSE.

Honestly, it's like seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and realizing it's a train. Homeschooled people are definitely the most indoctrinated in USA, and also the most dangerous. There's absolutely zero regulation for what you're supposed to teach your homeschooled child. Not that regulation would neccessarily help, seeing as a state or two OUTLAWED TEACHING EVOLUTION a while ago, but still. You can do whatever. And it's pretty much exclusively used by ultra-nationalist Evangelicals (extremist sort-of-Christian group) to, well, not teach evolution. Or slavery. Or climate change. Or equal rights. Generally: guns are good, oil rigs are better, books are suspicious and Jesus thinks the pope is too left-wing. It's all about control, honestly. Land Of The Free has some real hangups about parents having control over what their children know and think. There's this giant push for purging libraries right now, because "my child might read this".

Eh. Sometimes I want them to just collapse already. Then I remember they have nuclear missles, and won't go quietly.

...hey, did you know they operate nuclear bombs with floppy discs from 1951 and forget where they put the bomb sometimes? It can ALWAYS get worse.

On a lighter note, I absolutely love the phrase "it's ridiculous, but in a bad way". You're my kind of person Anon :D

Technically, I have a giant Matt + Avengers (+ slavery) story in the works up the page. It's gen and involves Matt relating to Natasha's past (and present), so I hope it scratches an itch. It'd be pretty cool to see creative snippets in other directions, though.

I'm not normally an Avengers person (up-the-page fics aside), but if I get an idea, I'll post something for you :)

I'm really not the right author to fill it. It's kinda beyond my scope. Trans just seemed like the obvious answer, and also an interesting read. I hope someone writes it :)

Re: Fill, maybe...?

(Anonymous) 2024-07-22 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Love the oversharing!! Thanks! :D

I think the line between platonic and romantic partner is a bit blurry for me. I guess platonic are more firmly in the "friendship" lane? Don't live together, don't call themselves a couple, that kind of thing? May or may not have their own respective girlfriends and boyfriends?? Now the line between "life partner" and "friend" (of the life-long sort, I guess) also gets blurry xd

Eh, life is confusing. XD

I have an unhealthy tendency to be like Matt when it comes to friends — happy when they're there, depressed when they aren't, quick to avoid them and kinda secretive when it comes to sharing my own piles of life-shit. At least he got the giant string of one-night-stands from it, I didn't. Is that something people genuinely do? I wouldn't even be opposed, I just DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO IT. I didn't have much of a social life in college (duh), but I'm pretty sure that's not how it works here.

...maybe I should have drunk more. That probably gets you to it. XD

Does talk like that repulse you? I'm in a 'curious' phase, would like to know what people see in it all. Some of the extatic descriptions in porn fics – I'm envious. A little bit. Definitely got repulsed last time I tried to go on a date though, looking at his mouth and thinking about kissing it. Maybe with a woman.

For real, I wonder how newyorkers actually feel about marvel 'cause like. It's pretty crazy XD

Can you imagine living in Hell's Kitchen???

Re: Fill, maybe...?

(Anonymous) 2024-07-22 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
The line between platonic and romantic is indeed confusing! When researching romantic attraction, the descriptions didn't convince me at all lol.
As far as I know, it's absolutely possible to want to platonically live together! At least if you're not/don't want to be in a romantic relationship, which I assume would take precedence for the "living together" part. So maybe it's more of an aro thing, but I wouldn't put living together out of the equation for platonic attraction.

Can't really help you with the one-night stands thing, lol. As soon as a guy shows a minimum of not-platonic interest in me, I tend to back away. Not exactly ghosting but I sure won't reach out anymore. It's probably awful, but I still haven't figured out how to approach the "by the way, I have zero interest in getting physical or being anything that's not friends with you" argument, so I just hope they take the hint. (Not that there's been many guys, but so far it worked.)
Anyway, based on my friend's experience, dating apps can help in getting one-night stands.

I used to be waaaay more repulsed about sex in general, then I cautiously tried reading some porn fics (this meme is absolutely guilty) and I'm now far harder to shock/scare away.
I'll be honest, usually when I read weird kinks my reaction is to laugh at the sheer absurdity, then I get to the comments and they're all like "hot, so hot!!". I don't get it. Bit it can be fun to read.
And I enjoy reading interesting dynamics, which is usually my reason to read fics involving sex scenes.
(That's true for written stuff; I still don't want to watch sex scenes, I get pretty annoyed at them in TV shows/movies.)
I went on a bit of a tangent, to sum it up: I used to be more repulsed, I'm now fine enough with it as long as it doesn't involve me. That might also be why I tend to stick to m/m (aside from them being the majority anyway): I can't see myself in either of the characters involved in the sex.

I think there's nothing wrong with trying (plenty of aces have sex, for various reasons!), as long as it's not out of external pressure to *do it* (don't get me started on how I hate how society seems to find virgin-shaming acceptable) and both parties are clear on what they want out of the experience, of course. But this goes for any relationship ever, no matter the attraction, I guess.

Matt & Marci being reluctant friends!
Give me all the interactions!
I think college era would be fun, but it's fine if you want to take it past that.

Re: Fill, maybe...?

(Anonymous) 2024-07-22 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)

Oh Jesus, I hate virgin shaming. And it happens on both sides of the political spectrum, and I somehow hate THAT even more. Not even because of ace stuff, but just--

1, it's none of your fucking business,

2, it's creepy to make someone else's body and sex your business,

3, SOME PEOPLE JUST AREN'T SUCCESSFULL IN GETTING LAID, WHAT THE FUCK OF IT.

This is why we get incels. Men who can't get a girlfriend so they check out of life and start considering whether rape or murder is a more spectacular ride. We shame them for putting ridiculous amounts of importance on having sex, but we also shame them for not having sex, putting exactly as much importance on it as they do.

It's not good enough for me to say "some people are ace" when telling people not to shame — which some lefty circles started to do, I guess it's a step at least. Yeah, some people are ace, but also, some people choose to abstain or "save themselves" for their faith or any other reason, and that's their perogative and nothing you get to chime in on, and some people can't get laid even though they want to, and that shouldn't take away from their dignity as a person or potential for happiness in their life.

Human worth is not made out of sex quotas, you terrorist-nuturing IDIOTS.

...I may have ranted a little.

Re: Fill, maybe...?

(Anonymous) 2024-07-22 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably not surprising, but I wholeheartedly agree with your rant!
It's not about being ace, people's sex lives are no-one's business except their own. It's not funny to make fun of the adult virgin who, haha, can't get laid.

It's not even just incels.
Years ago, I met a girl online despairing about not having had sex yet. She was 18 years old and it seemed to be inconceivable for her to be missing that fundamental experience. She felt a loser and behind on life because she hadn't had sex at 18 years old. That's the kind of pressure society puts on people.
Which, obviously, makes young people also more vulnerable to predators/people taking advantage of them, since they HAVE to experience sex ASAP.
It's seriously sad. And yes, the jokes come from pretty much everyone.
There's a manga/dorama based on the premise that if you're virgin at 30 years old you get a superpower, bc it's so rare/absurd to be virgin at 30. What the hell

Re: Matt commits — and no one knows for months

(Anonymous) 2024-07-22 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
This would be a very good story but so extremely sad. I don't think I have it in me to write it, but I hope someone does, because really, this is an extremely good prompt.

Re: Fill, maybe...?

(Anonymous) 2024-07-22 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
To pretend we didn't start rambling away from the prompt, I'll add that I can't wait to find out what brought Matt to accept to drink an enema! And what's going on with his creepy partner in general.
Was it societal pressure, Matt? 🤧

Hey, congratulations on your first prompt! Very late congratulations, I know. Sorry. But if you're still checking in from time to time, I left a very similar prompt on the next page, only with more detail. Maybe someone will fill yours or mine :)

Re: Fill, maybe...?

(Anonymous) 2024-07-22 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)

I do remember there's a fic to fill! I'll add another installement soon, like tomorrow. I'm enjoying myself too much in the ramblings to do it now :))

And Christ, a super power? For being a virgin? We entered the Absurdity Land, didn't we. And in Japan of all places. Although, maybe that's why it exists...? Maybe it's meant to be weirdly empowering or something? Japan has this hikikimori phenomenon. It's basically Japanese incels from before-the-incels.

They're sometimes called Japan's lost generation - men who were unable to secure a stable job and marry young (because there was an economic crash at the time), so they never actually started a life and don't even leave their rooms anymore. Less dangerous than incels, but more or equally tragic. There are state-sponsored programs for them now, with social workers visiting and trying to befriend them and lure them out of the house.

They spend most of their time reading manga and playing video games, so. Eh.
