Daredevil Prompt Post #12

Mod Post | Discussion/Off-Topic Post | Writing Challenges
AO3 Collection | Fills: Completed & WIPs

All Rounds & Other Useful Links

This post is for prompts involving characters from Netflix's Daredevil.

Now that The Defenders prompt post is live, all crossovers between anyone in the four individual shows should go over there. Prompts only including characters that appear in Daredevil should still go here.

Rules:
  • General
    1. YKINMKATO. Play nice. Respect others. If you don't like something, scroll on.

    2. All comments must be anon. If you would like to be politely banned to avoid anon-failing, leave a logged-in comment on the mod post or pm the mod account.

    3. Subject lines should only be changed if you're posting a prompt or a fill (indicators like OP or Author!Anon should go in the body of the comment).

    4. RPF is allowed. Crossovers, characters from the extended Marvel Universe and comics canon are allowed, but must relate to the 2015 TV show in some way.

    5. Prompts focusing on characters from other Netflix Marvel shows or the comics should go on their respective prompt posts, but crossovers with Daredevil can go here.

    6. Drop a comment on the mod post if you have any questions or problems.

  • Prompts
    1. All types of prompts are welcome.

    2. Use the subject line for the main idea of your prompt (pairing or characters, keywords, kink).

    3. Warnings are nice, but not mandatory. Get DW Blocker if there's anything you really don't want to see.

    4. Reposted prompts are allowed once one round has passed - e.g. prompts from post #2 cannot be reposted until post #4. Please include a link to where it has been previously posted.

  • Fills
    1. When posting a fill, either add [FILL] (or something similar) to the subject line, or change the subject line to the title of your fill.

    2. Announce your fill on either the Completed Fills Post or the WIP Post.

    3. Long fills can either be posted over multiple comments, or posted on AO3 and linked back here.

    4. Multiple fills are always okay.

    5. Fills can be anything! Fic, art and vids are all welcome.

Please post any prompts related to Season 2 of Punisher over on the dedicated Punisher prompt post, and put SPOILERS in the subject line!

I honestly don't know if this is an equivalent to Matt's Murderdock. Not exactly a cuddly image. But hey, he's good. Probably.

:)

Heart to heart about murder (Matt and Frank, gen)

(Anonymous) 2024-07-11 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"When I killed..."

Suddenly Red has all of Franks attention.

Do whatever you want with it :)

MINI-FILL: Soldiers in the midnight

(Anonymous) 2024-07-11 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Why did you do it? Doesn't it feel wrong to you? You just... don't care about their lives?" Red delivers that last line with an air of surprise and incomprehenshion, like a lost child. It's fucking pitiful.

"Don't need your preaching, choir boy. Those scumbags out there..."

Red is already shaking his head.

"No. I'm not talking about now. I understand now, I know why. But... before." He paces the roof, agitated. "You were happy. Normal. And you still signed up to kill. Why do it? Why be a soldier when you don't have to?"

It takes Frank a moment to realise that Red equates "soldier" to "murderer". He clenches his jaw. But before he can utter anything other than 'How DARE you...' Red croaches beside him, looking somewhere into the ether.

"When I killed..."

And that definitely gets Franks attention.

- this was actually the original prompt, but when I read through it it flet like I was taking up too much room for others' creativity. And somewhere along the way it became a story of its own, if left on a cliffhanger. I like it. Hope you guys like it too.

I don't think I will do it, so if anyone wants to turn this into a giant plot about Fisk and his Totally Sane, Very Not Shady 'daughter' Karen fighting crime with (probably) crime while Daredevil runs around like a headless chicken and Nelson&Murdock may or may not be an honest firm--

- you have my blessing. :))

Foggy prays for Matt

(Anonymous) 2024-07-11 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
That's it. That's the prompt.

Matt POV!!!
Seems like Tony and the others didn't think to try reassure him 🥲 maybe they even thought he recognised them?
And of course Matt doesn't go to the bed (did he even notice there's one?). 💔

This continues to be great!

Re: FILL: Fisk's equivalent of Murderdock

(Anonymous) 2024-07-14 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
This is great!
I think it's perfectly fine for this Fisk to not be a 100% saint, I just wanted to see him as another not-villain.

He pretty much adopting Karen and criminally fighting crime with her is genius and works perfectly for me! Thank you for filling :)

Re: Hit by a truck. Again.

(Anonymous) 2024-07-14 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll see if I get an idea for it!

Re: Foggy prepares defence for Matt

(Anonymous) 2024-07-14 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
The police would never know about Nobu, though! And I think even in other cases it would be hard to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Matt did it 👀 (not being Daredevil per se, but his responsibility for specific criminals' deaths/injuries, especially for deaths where there would probably be no witnesses).

I'm not a lawyer so I don't think I would be able to write this, but I'd love to see it filled!
(Btw, if you'd like to read Matt under trial written by an actual lawyer, you should check out ceterisparibus' Ella series on Ao3. The trial part (everything really, but the trial!!!) Is GREAT.)

It shouldn't have happened.
Matt shouldn't fucking be in the ICU, his life hanging by a thread. A very fine thread.
It wasn't even because of Daredevil, and Foggy is irrationally angry about it. His best friend goes out every night with a mask to beat dangerous men up, Foggy fought with him about it not being safe, and of course Matt managed to almost die for something completely unrelated.
Well, maybe not completely. He still did it to save a life—just in the light of day this time.
It all happened so fast. Foggy barely noticed the ball rolling onto the road, didn't see the kid running after it until it was too late. He froze, unable to do anything that wasn't waiting for the tragedy or some miracle.
Matt didn't.
He jumped into the road, using his ninja reflexes to push the kid out of the way of the incoming truck. But he wasn't so lucky to avoid it as well.
His best friend once more proved to be a hero, and all he got in exchange was being hit by a truck—again.
So now Matt's fighting for his life in a hospital bed, and all Foggy can do is pray Matt's God to not let him die.
He's never been much of a believer, not like Matt, but Matt can't pray now. Foggy will just have to do it for him.
Please, God. Please save Matt. Please let him be okay, because... The city needs him, Foggy thinks, but that’s not why he's praying for the first time in ten years. I need him.
Foggy keeps his eyes closed and his hands joined, and doesn't let himself think of anything that's not a desperate prayer for his best friend.

Well, here it is, way sooner than I'd thought. I combined your prompt with the latest one (Foggy prating for Matt).

I reread the prompt now (I should have done so earlier, sorry!) and it actually doesn't fit except for the truck part.
I'll try to get out a second part with Matt awake and the prompt dialogue!

Welcome!

Thank you for commenting, it's a bit narcisstic but to know that people read my work (and like it) is always a highlight of the day. I'd probably stop writing eventually without it. So, thanks for pushing me on :))

Re: minifill

(Anonymous) 2024-07-15 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I love it!! It doesn't need to fit the prompt ideally - it's your work and your creativity, take what you like and leave what you don't ;)

But yeah, when I started reading my first thought was - so Foggy telling him flatly he's an idiot and a hero and that's INFURIATING, Matt, you fucking asshole comes later, clearly...

I'd love a second part!

(Also, Foggy praying was my prompt too, so this is a double treat:))

(Do you plan to revise a bit and post on AO3? Because I love the potential paralel here: The city needs him, he thinks. But that's not why he's praying for the first time in ten years. I need him. I only ever needed my friend.)

Ohhh, I'll look it up! Thank you for the recommendation!! I kind of hate how bad the lawyering parts on the show really are. I get that they are writers, and they probably sacrificed good lawyer-being on the altar of character exposure semi-knowingly, but still. STILL. It's so OBVIOUSLY bad. "My client is guitly, dear jury, people who are easily swayed by emotion, but it should be God who punishes him. You need to declare him non-guilty on this gimmick I just invented, and the judge is letting me do it because he's not a real judge. I rest my case."

...okay, rant over. Sorry xd

Your point from the first paragraph is a great angle for Foggy! Still would take a REALLY good lawyer to convince people that the guy who beat people into comas and then they died didn't make them die, but, you know, Foggy has some time to polish his closing statement. He can do this. Probably. He'll try and he will SUCCEED, dammit, because he is a good lawyer and Matt is a good man. Probably.

(Second rant also over. Sorry again xd. Thank you for commenting! I love discussions like this)

Ooof. I wonder what family he comes from? He does bear a sort of passing resemblance to Fisk now that I think about it...

Mini-fill: Foggy prays for Matt

(Anonymous) 2024-07-15 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)

God.

Foggy isn't good at praying.

God. Please help.

He twists his hands. Fuck, he really isn't good at praying. Hands together, Nelson.

God, listen, I'm really not used to this--

Shit.

Dear God. Holly Father. Please hear me.

The church is empty at this hour, and the cold of the stone floor seeps into his knees. It's dark.

Please hear me. My friend-- My friend usually talks to You, but he can't right now. I don't think he ever prays for himself, anyway. Maybe for forgiveness. He's that kind of guy.

You know him, right? He talks to You. You've met his Dad, and, and he-- in that accident--

The church is so cold.

You know him, and I'm--

I'm--

You probably know me too, right, God, listen, I'm--

Holly Father, I'm--

He takes a breath. Another. Presses his hands harder together. Thinks too much.

I'm so scared.

I read it! It's great!! I love stories where secrets come to life, and there's not many involving anyone but Foogy and Karen. This is refreshing :)

Foggy is a malevolent spirit

(Anonymous) 2024-07-15 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Inspired by the Ghost of Hell's Kitchen prompt above, and how hilariously unfit for an excorcist Foggy is:

Foggy is a malevolent spirit cheerfully sowing chaos and division on Hell's Kitchen streets like the best poltergeist to ever be. I imagine it as a chaotic "neutral" that oscillates between chaotic good and chaotic evil based on days of the week and general whatever.

Feel free to introduce whatever characters you want to interact with him :)

Fill, part 1: Foggy is a malevolent spirit

(Anonymous) 2024-07-15 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)

"You convinced my boss to sell his soul to the Devil," James stated.

"It was a prank."

"You convinced my boss to sell his soul to the Devil."

Wow, James was pisses. Back ram-rod straight, attitude polite and professional, which really didn't promise a happy immediate future.

Foggy smiled disarmingly. "Sorry. I didn't think it would take, honest." He did. "You know I only play in my sandbox."

Westley narrowed his eyes. Foggy continued his smiling.

"Don't repeat that mistake. I have to clean up your mess now."

He turned around in a way that made you think of a swishing cape and walked away like a furious Dr. Faustus, angry that he didn't get his poodle.

Still professional and polite. Ups.

Annotation

(Anonymous) 2024-07-15 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Dr Faustus - well, technically Faust - is a legendary guy based on a real guy who was a magician in real life according to Wikipedia and sold his soul to the devil according to legends and stories. In the most famous version of it, he is approached by the Devil in the form of a black poodle.

(Who then becomes his servant.)

– So, now you know what that joke was all about ;).

Fill, part 5: Slavery AU with the Avengers

(Anonymous) 2024-07-15 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)

Tony would really like to have some alcohol right now. Or better yet, cocaine. Heroine, whatever. The first thing that Happy can source for him and would take his mind off just about everything, please.

He was abstaining from everything.

He paced his suite like a caged animal, asking himself again why he couldn't just relapse-- oh, right. There was that person he was responsible for now. That he owned. Maybe he could relapse, after all? Jarvis would take care of him.

"Jarvis."

"Yes, Sir?"

Tony run his hand through his hair, sighing. This would be the sixteenth time he asked. "Nevermind. I'm going to the kitchen."

The kitchen was the communal kitchen, on the communal floor, because Tony had a healthy attitude towards life and did recognize that isolating himself wasn't good. So he stopped having meals in his own kitchen. Well, Pepper cut him off. But still.

He felt a bitter taste in his mouth. Cut off from drugs, cut off from alcohol, cut off from food on his own fucking floor, did he have any control over his life at all??

Well, more than a fucking slave. That thought sobered him up quickly.

Sober. Huh.

The kitchen was blessedly empty. No one in the mood for socialising today. He made a quick work of gathering whatever food he could find – he wasn't exactly good at cooking, but even he could grab a thing.

Or a person. Jesus Christ, he needed to get out of his head.

With the help of Jarvis and the internet he prepared a small meal - I would recommend something light, Sir, and perhaps without lactose – and put it on a tray.

He looked at the elevator with trepidation. Time to brave reality.

Fill, part 6: Slavery AU with the Avengers

(Anonymous) 2024-07-15 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)

"Sir? Sir."

"Sir."

Matt woke up abruptly, frantically searching for a Sir. No one was in the room, or the next room, or the next. He breathed for a moment, listened more attentively. He was ready to write it off as another dream, when--

"Sir."

Matt jumped. No. There were no heartbeats in the room.

"What--" he swallowed the question. Never reveal a weakness. It might be something everyone else could see, or there was something wrong with his hearing, or there was something wrong with all of his senses, because there was no heat either, or he might be hallucinating--

"Would you like to sit, sir? Perhaps on the coach this time?"

The voice sounded concerned, which pissed him off a little. He was really careful not to hyperventilate and not to visibly panic, and he thought he succeeded.

Never reveal a weakness.

For a moment, he couldn't remember what was said to him. Mind heavy, memory empty – did they drug him? Don't panic--

Sit. Right. That was what was said to him. Sit down, sir, but there was no one else around so he had to assume it was him.

New owner, new rules. Matt felt a little sardonic about that.

He wanted to obey the command, but his legs felt like lead. He couldn't move them. Get up. Get to work. But he couldn't. Weak. And--

Oh. The voice was still talking, and Matt hadn't been listening.

"--your meal, sir."

The door to his right opened.

Shit.
