Kink Meme Repost Madness!

All Rounds & Other Useful Links
Rules | Mod Post | Discussion/Off-Topic Post | Writing Challenges
Fills: Completed & WIPs

The new challenge is here! It's been written and arranged by [personal profile] enthusiasmgirl, so please direct all questions and thanks to her :D

So S2 is coming in March! And as excited as we all are, I’m sure we’re all sad that it means that older prompts on the meme might just get forgotten about. So, this challenge is designed to keep us all inspired for the next couple of months, highlight the very best prompts on the meme for newbies and people who come post-S2 and want to get in the wayback machine, and just be fun for everyone!

There are multiple ways to participate in this challenge, even if you’re only a reader or lurker!

1. NOMINATE PROMPTS AND DISCUSS NOMINATIONS

This challenge is about discovering the hidden gems, forgotten about favourites, and most talked about, inspiring ideas hidden in the 6,000+ prompts on this meme and distilling them down to the favourites, the best of the best.

We need you to nominate your favourite unfilled prompts (from Prompt Post #1 to Prompt Post #8) across the following 21 subcategories:

THE FEELS
  • Whump or Hurt/Comfort
  • Romantic Tropefic (fake marriage or dating, alternate first meeting, etc.)
  • Tooth-Rotting Fluff
DAREDEVIL FANDOM TROPES
  • Ableism and Disability
  • Heightened Senses
  • Catholicism
OTHER PEOPLE’S PLAYGROUNDS
  • Non-MCU Crossover & Fusion
  • MCU Crossover
  • Comic-Inspired
PUTTING THE KINK IN THE KINK MEME
  • PWP and Smut (although these are obviously also encouraged in all other categories if they fit)
  • BDSM or D/S AU
  • Polyamory
CHARACTER STUDIES
  • The Ladies (Marci, Claire, Karen, Vanessa or others and can include femslash prompts)
  • The Villains (Fisk, Wesley, the Ranskahov brothers, etc.)
  • Foggy is a _______ (Prompts that fill in that blank somehow even if it’s not phrased that way in the header)
ALTERNATE UNIVERSES
  • Demons or Magical Realism
  • Soulmate or Soulmark
  • General Alternate Universes (Wild West, Coffee Shop, Outer Space, Prostitution, etc. are all welcome!)
CANON APPROACHES
  • Pre-Canon
  • Nelson v. Murdock
  • Canon Divergence
To nominate, simply repost your prompts below on the NOMINATED PROMPTS comment using the prompt header as the subject line and the following template in the body:

Category:
Prompt Details:
Link to Original Prompt:

You must choose only one category even if it fits into multiple categories (so an AU doesn’t have to go into the AU category, or an Ableism prompt doesn’t have to go there but can be considered hurt/comfort, for example). You don’t have to be the OP of the original prompt. You can nominate as many prompts as you’d like in as many categories as you’d like.

How does your nomination rise to the top?

Well, if it’s the only one in its category, it’s the winner by default. But if it’s not, a points system will be applied as follows:
  • 1 point - each brief comment seconding the nomination (+1, seconded, *camping out*, etc.)
  • 2 points - each additions to the prompt (suggestions on what could happen, conversation even if it veers OT that’s related, etc.) and comments on those additions
  • 3 points - each mini-fill completed on the fill under 1000 words

This applies only to the new repost thread. What does this mean? Encourage people to second your nomination! And second others nominations if you want them to win too! We want to ensure that the prompts that win are the ones that everyone is really excited to see filled.

If it gets filled, fantastic! It will be disqualified from being nominated, but everyone’s happy because someone filled it! :D

The nomination period closes on January 31, 2016

2. SIGN UP AS A WRITER OR MULTIMEDIA FILLER

We are looking for writers, fan artists, or other multimedia artisans willing to commit to participating in the challenge from February 1 - March 15th.

The sign-up deadline is January 31, 2015. To sign up, click here to indicate the name you would like to use for the challenge (which does not have to be your fandom name) and the categories you are most interested in filling for and provide your email address to the challenge mod. If you are contributing something besides writing, indicate what that is as well.

Multimedia options include:
  • Fan Art
  • Podfic
  • Fanvid
  • Fan Mix
  • GIFs
  • Meta
Don’t take the list above as limiting. Any other suggested creative contribution (in case there’s someone out there who crochets or does flash animations or something) would also be welcomed.

You can state that you wish to write AND provide another kind of fill if you’re willing to fill a prompt in more than one category.

On February 1st, 21 winning prompts will be announced, one in each category. The prompts will be first come-first serve, with one writer and one multimedia filler being able to claim each one here on the meme. You can choose to write more than one fill for more than one category if you want. Fillers working on the same prompt are encouraged to be collaborative.

Written fills must be a minimum of 2500 words.
The deadline for all fills is March 15, 2015.

Once the prompts are all claimed, the fillers working on them will be announced to the kink meme community and there will be an open discussion area here on that prompt so that people can encourage you as you write, including offers to beta, new ideas or thoughts, and general cheerleading.

3. GENERAL CHEERLEADING AND WORD-SPREADING!

For this challenge to be successful, we need to bring back some people who may have left the kink meme or who may not realize one of their prompts is being boosted. We need to encourage writers and other fillers not just to sign up, but also to finish their fills. We may need pinch hitters and betas and additional organizers to catalogue the prompts nominated, etc. Primarily, we just need an active group of people willing to keep this meme and this challenge interesting.

So please spread the word even if you’re not participating, here and on Tumblr and in whatever fandom space you’re in with Daredevil fandom! And encourage the great conversations and community on this meme who make it what it is! This challenge is for everyone, and so we hope you all participate and enjoy it.

Those are the only categories, however you are welcome to put other kinds of AUs into the other categories if they fit.

So, as an example, if a Coffee Shop AU also has a whumpy premise it could go into the Whump category, or if it's fluffy it could be Tooth-Rotting Fluff.

(Same thing with Smut and PWP - it's there generally but could go anywhere really).

However, I am actually going to adjust to add a General AU category, because I realize that they may actually not fit another place.

Hm, I'm looking at the Fusion category under AU - isn't that essentially a Non-MCU crossover?

It has been moved to reflect the confusion.

Originally, my thinking was that fusions are a bit different, because they're not really a crossover. They're AUs using the rules and structures of a pre-set fictional universe.

Technically, as an example, most people don't realize that Sentinel and Guide AUs are really a fusion AU (most people don't remember that The Sentinel was a TV show in the 90's). And a Pacific Rim Fusion would generally not have any Pacific Rim characters in it, and would adjust the Pacific Rim mythology as necessary for the fic to work. Same thing with Daemon AUs.

There's also been a new category added for Non-Powers AUs (such as coffee shop AUs, comic book store AUs, bagel shop AUs, prostitution AUs, etc.)

Are there...a lot of Non-Powers AU prompts, though? Enough to justify a category?

(I don't mean the coffee shop/spaceship/whatever aspect of it, but the actual no-powers part. Just as an example, we had the Bakery AU, but Matt still had powers in that one. Would that prompt have been disqualified because Matt still had enhanced senses in it? Or if someone wanted to fill a nominated Coffee Shop prompt, they would be required to write Matt as not having powers or it wouldn't count?)

I would say that there definitely are, given that I can name probably a dozen or more I've seen on the meme previously, and that there's already a Comic Book Shop AU on post #9.

Really, non-Powers should mean non-Daredevil. If Matt has his enhanced senses, but he's not using them in a meaningful way to be DD, then it's fine. The majority of prompts I've seen are usually up for either.

The essential idea is that it's any prompt that asks for a non-canon following AU set in a completely different location in which either superheroes aren't a thing, or powers aren't a thing, or Matt is not superheroing.

Does that make sense?

I'm not going to be especially finicky about disqualifying a prompt from a category on a technicality, to be honest, as long as it fits the spirit of it. For example, technically one of the Canon Divergence prompts below fits better in the Ladies category, and the Canon Divergence is only in the bonus requested, but that's fine.

Put a prompt where you think it fits best, and unless multiple people call it out to say "This shouldn't be here", I'm not going to be strict about it.

Re: QUESTIONS

Totally understand! I'm just wondering if the title 'Non-Powers AU' would discourage people right from the beginning from nominating/writing things they otherwise would have. They may want barista goodness, but if they also want Matt to still have the senses then with the 'Non-Powers' label they may just avoid nominating/writing at all. (which seems to go against the spirit of this challenge?) I mean, would 'Not Daredevil' work better in that case as opposed to 'Non-Powers'?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-01 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
+1 yeah, I totally assumed that meant "no enhanced senses."

Re: QUESTIONS

(Anonymous) 2016-01-01 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Or even, 'Not Lawyers'?

It is now called "Non-Superhero". I hope that clarifies it?

There is now a third AU category just called "General Alternate Universe" for a catch-all.

\o/ Awesome alternative, thank you!

The new category doesn't seem to be reflected in the sign up post. Can you add it, or should we just make a note that we're interested in filling for general AUs in the notes section?

Just making a note will be fine. :)

Also, FYI for anyone wondering, the categories above were discussed and vetted with a few other people, and for each one I verified that there were multiple prompts related to them on the meme and that they justified a category and were a legitimate trend or common trope.

I tried to cast a wide net to have categories that the majority of prompts on this meme fit into in one way or another, but also wanted to narrow it enough that I didn't have 50 categories.

As mentioned, I'm not going to be a particularly brutal person about saying "This doesn't fit this category exactly", so just go with whichever one fits best. And I encourage people to put Smut and PWP in other categories if they want, or AUs in other categories if they want, so long as they make sense there.
