Hello.

Matt remembered several things about his dad: His face, his hands, the smell of him after a night in the rink, and his heartbeat (and its silence). His father’s heartbeat had been distinctive to him as his face when he could see.

Matt had memorized very few heartbeats: Jack, Stick, Foggy, Father Lanthom, Karen.

When Matt dreamt it included their heartbeats, scents, and every little detail that let Matt identify them. His father’s heartbeat lived on in his dreams long after it had gone silent.

It shocked him to the core when he realized that he was hearing a familiar beat in the middle of a farmer’s market. He had to be confused. He followed it, making sure to keep his distance as it moved down the market to a stall selling produce.

Really he was about to leave when he heard the owner speak:

“Got everything you need, sweetheart?” The New York accent faintly coloring the man’s voice felt like knives being jammed into his ears.

“Jack! I didn’t see you.” A woman, smelling of mid priced perfume, warm and… and why was he cold? “I am almost done. You know I love coming into the city. I always get caught up in the littlest thing.” Her accent, Bostonian.

Matt felt like he was breaking. He had to be wrong.

Jack, his dad?, laughed like he was the happiest man in the world. His heartbeat sang. “Where’s Matty?” He almost lunged forward. Here! Here! Dad!

“She’s with Rachel at Barnes and Noble, looking at the teen sensation.”

“I’m just glad Twilight is over.”

“Team Jacob and Edward is dead. Now it’s...I actually don’t know. We’ll have to see which books she starts hoarding.”

“Yeah. There goes out fast food trip each week.”

“Hey if it makes her happy.” She replied.

Matt felt like he was going insane. He took out his phone and switched on the camera. He couldn’t see but the video would capture. He would have Foggy look at it. He had to be wrong. This couldn’t be his dad.

This was a man with a wife and daughter that had a nickname similar to his and that was all. Jack Murdock was dead. Jack Murdock as dead. He hadn’t left him. He hadn’t

He didn’t live with another family and replace him. (Her name was Mattie!)

He sent it to Foggy. He didn’t even care what he captured. The text read: See if man looks like Dad. Re: SOON.

“God, Jack. We have to head to Hell’s Kitchen! You used to box there right?”

“Yeah. But I’d rather not. It’s not safe. We should stick to the city.”

“I wish you would take it up again. You’re good.”

“I’m better working with my hands.”

His phone rang. “Come on Jack.”

“Linda, no. We’re not going.”

Matt answered his phone. His mouth tasted like blood. “Foggy?”

“Matt what the fuck? Is that your dad?”

“I think it is.”

“Where are you?”

“I-I need you to get me, Foggy. I-I-I…” Jack and Linda moved away. Heartbeat the same. his smell was overshadowed by the smell of his tears. A set of footsteps joined them.

“Dad! Mom!”

“What book do you have, Mattie?” Her reply was drowned out by Foggy’s yell.

“Matt!”

“I’m at Union Square. I’ll – I’ll be sitting on one of the benches.” He said and made a beeline for one of the seats.

The heartbeat disappeared.

If he actually did turn a new leaf, maybe guilt? Try and get the approval of (probably one of the many) people he got killed back when?

...Or since No one knew about Matt's super hearing it's logical to think the guy wouldn't know that Matt knew he got his dad murdered.

Can't it be both? XD (but I vote for the 2nd option)

Are any of ya'll familiar with that scene from season 1 of Showtime's The Borgias where Giulia Farnese is sexily confessing to the Pope in a confessional and he gets nervously turned on and advises her to go whip herself with silk cords and later they have sex.

OP here! First of all, thank you so much for writing something so lovely for my prompt.

As for vamprie type...I see the appeal of both. If you're going to go with Vanessa as the original/older vampire, I think the "hiding-in-plain-sight" type fits best. It'll also mesh well with what you've already written. If you want to go with the other type, or bring in elements from them into the story, that would be fine as well. :)

Selfies with Matt. Pictures of Foggy sleeping and drooling. Matt cleaning his ear, and then sniffing it. A dead pigeon (wtf, karen?!). Food. Coffee. Cat photos.

Matt: Oh, please don't tell me she still has that embarrassing photo of me from the Christmas party.
Foggy: Huh.... yes...

Sidenote, can I just say that Fisk and Vanessa, with their art obsession and fixation with beauty, strike me as Toreadors?
Ok maybe Fisk is more of a Ventrue but still.

Sometimes he likes to hold onto Foggy's arm longer than usual. Sometimes he leans against Karen without realizing it.

like, i mean. as someone who's written foggy calling matt "honey" and "sweetheart" i'm just. yes. YES, ALL OF THE PETNAMES. oh my god foggy probably lays it on THICK. when he called matt "sunshine" i just about DIED.

i'm just gonna camp out in this thread because not only do i love embarrassing petnames but i feel like this could easily be worked in with praise kink which is Absolutely The Bomb Dot Com, i hope this gets filled because.......i love it......thank you

So in the comics Karen ended up involved in porn when she becomes addicted to heroin. Sounds like it's something she didn't really want to be doing.

The show keeps hinting at a shady past so I was wondering if they were reversing her story. Either way, I would like to see that.

We've had transman Foggy, and we've had Jewish Foggy, but have we had both together?

Bonus points for a scene where Matt finds out Foggy was AFAB, AND finds out he's Jewish, and the Jewish is the part that really takes him by surprise.

something that sprang out of a discussion amongst me and my friends: matt and foggy, either while in college or visiting a fairly old city, have to deal with Old Fashioned Historical Steps. for example: i'm currently in savannah, georgia, for a college orientation visit, and i nearly fell down an EXTREMELY steep and uneven set of two hundred or so year old stairs because no one gave a fuck about building codes or disability accessible walkways back then.

+100 if they have to traverse these stairs while drunk
+1000 if matt is somehow more nimble on the stairs than foggy is and it Angers Him.

I honestly love the idea of Fail Dad Steve attempting to be a Stern Father Figure to Peter, and Peter being all "lol no." I also love the idea of merging this with Matt Becomes The Responsible Adult For Teenage Superheroes prompt.

HAHAHAHA uh.

y'know. the part where Nobu and Fisk do actually still nearly beat Matt to death, and he and Foggy have their grand fight, and Foggy storms out, and Matt lies there aching worse and feeling sicker and more miserable than ever before. (The worst part is that he feels...freer? He's only lost everything, now: he's only all alone, for the first time in years, because if Foggy's left, that's it, there's no more reason to hold back.

Stick was right.

The idea is terrifying and awful, but it has this sickly sweet undertaste to it. Matt's responsible to Karen, still, of course, and there are people he would die to protect (of course) but - but if Foggy's left him, then. Then all the extra little bits, the time-wasting pieces of life that Foggy trained into him? He could...drop those.

When Foggy comes back, and knocks on the door, Matt is startled and guilty, and his head is aching and he's tired: he wants nothing more than sleep, at this point. His whole body feels on the verge of collapse, and - and he feels that if Foggy's taken the time to come back and knock, then it's not like Matt can ignore that kind of gesture. "Come in!" he shouts. Whatever Foggy wants to say, whether it's a final repudiation or another fight, he can take it, he deserves it.

Matt is too tired to focus properly, and his whole body's bruised where he's not bleeding. That's why he doesn't - it doesn't make sense, for a few seconds. (Not that Matt himself would've been able to do anything; he needed Foggy's help to take a piss, earlier than afternoon, for god's sake.)

"Oh my darling," says the woman who isn't Foggy.

Matt's skin prickles. What he smells is entirely impossible; he must be too tired for the world to be making sense, because why would Fisk's woman, Vanessa, come to his house today? It's not Foggy, though, so he struggles to sit up: he doesn't know what he'll tell her, but there has to be some excuse. Car accident, maybe? Whatever it will take to get her out of his apartment, no matter why she's here: there's no good reason for her to be here, but there's no reason for her to know his deep secret.

"Look at you," she purrs, low, hungry: "oh, look at what my Wilson has done."

Matt doesn't know what the hell she's - he tries to sit up, but she pushes him down, and that's not what he expects. "What are you," he starts.

Her heart's not beating. She's walking around and the only heartbeat in his apartment is his.

"Don't," he says, faintly; her hand's on his throat, and there's a strange noise, like someone grinding their teeth in their sleep. She's awake, though.

"Don't fall asleep on me now, Matthew," she says.
