- General
- YKINMKATO. Play nice. If you don't like something, scroll on.

- Discussion not related to the prompt should be moved to the discussion/off-topic post.

- Prompts
- All types of prompts are welcome.
- Use the subject line for the main idea of your prompt (pairing or characters, keywords, kink).
- Warnings are nice, but not necessary. Get DW Blocker if there's anything you really don't want to see.

- Announce your fill on either the Completed Fills Post or the WIP Post.
If you would like to be politely banned to avoid anon-failing, leave a logged-in comment on the mod post or pm the mod account.
Fill Speaking with Respect 2/?
(Anonymous) 2015-06-24 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)"Doing pretty well, Sir. Going for four A-levels. You've probably read that it's supposed to be three--" The UK system was alien and disorienting if one hadn't immersed oneself in it "--but they let you do four if you insist."
His father paused for a moment to take that in. Then there was a slow, small smile. And Wesley smiled back.
"So, then. College. College is...important. Harvard or Yale, maybe?"
"If you're sure, Sir. I was wondering if maybe you'd want me to put it off, get to work helping, instead of amassing more of a paper trail, especially back home in the States."
Privacy was extremely important. It was important to his father's plan, but it was also important to his father, period.
Another long pause, then a slow shake of the head. "We'll be discreet enough. And there's no need to rush. We'll take our time, and do it right."
OP
(Anonymous) 2015-06-25 06:58 am (UTC)(link)Anon! I didn't expect a fill this quickly, so out of curiosity I checked the time of my post and the time of yours and they're less than two hours apart! And then you posted a second part so shortly after! (the parts are a little shorter than I'm used to, but so lovely!) You're wonderful anon!
And I can totally see Wesley as someone who would be into old books! And I love how it was his idea to help Fisk add 'flair.' It always seemed to me like Wesley was more of the master-mind than Fisk, so this seems really in character. I think you've translated Wesley's character into a child perfectly!
The only thing I don't understand is why Wesley is going to school in England. Is it just because of the stories? Or to lessen the 'paper trail?' Now I'm wondering how it would even work to go to college in a different country (at least, I'm assuming you're making Wesley American. The mention of travel before saying he was sent to college in England seemed to indicate that.). Even just going to college in a different state than you live in is a little more complicated.
Re: OP
(Anonymous) 2015-06-25 07:07 am (UTC)(link)I have him sent to boarding school -- a secondary school -- in England because deciding his kid should have something as different as possible from what he had, something really 'classy,' seemed like a Fisk thing to do. Keeping things far away from where Fisk wants to really get down to business, thus maintaining privacy, is a factor too, yes. The college in discussion was actually probably going to be back in the states.
And yes, you can attend school outside your native country, whether secondary school or university. And when it comes to boarding schools, particularly, I feel that money 'simplifies' a lot of things. Yes, that level of wealth requires Fisk making his first fortune rather young-ish, but that's part of the Count-of-Monte-Cristo-esque feel I like doing with him, and I feel he could pull it off.
