That wouldn't really work unless there's a LOT of stuff going on in the woman's life and she's too busy to notice her periods have stopped. I know that not every woman tracks their periods, but 6 weeks is a long enough time that it would still be noticed. Especially since on average, a healthy woman has a period every 15-28 days, with 18-21 being most common (I know most web sources give slightly different amounts, usually just saying exactly 21 days, but I got this from a very well researched book on sex that I had to read for college so it's the amount I'm referencing. Plus I'm a woman myself, I track my periods, and I can say for sure that not all healthy women fall into the idealized 21 day model of prediction).

I'd have to disagree. For an average woman who has regular periods, sure, she'd probably notice. But 1) not all women track their periods or pay that close attention and 2) not all women have regular periods, and 3) not all women are well educated about their periods. It's not implausible at all for a woman that early on to not know she's pregnant. Trust me, I work in an emergency department and we see plenty of women coming in who find out they're pregnant on routine testing. They're usually about 6-7 weeks along.

Oh lordly loo, mutha-effin' periods. My periods disappear when I'm under loads of stress. For example, when I was back in college, I didn't have one for three months. I wasn't worried, I knew something like this would happen (my mom and sis didn't have their periods during the entirety of their basic traning) but you know, the usual thoughts filtered through my head first.

'Oh my god, am I the next Virgin Mary???!! No, wait, that's stupid.'

Ahaha, yeah. Periods are reliable up until they're not.

Mine was like clockwork all the way up through college. Then when I started working long hours at a stressful job where I was frequently surrounded by pregnant women...

I went on the pill simply to get my body back on a schedule, because I'm an extremely paranoid person and freaked out when I ended up being two weeks late. And I've met many women who weren't nearly so cautious about their bodies: "Of course pulling out is an effective birth control method, I've only gotten pregnant once that way!"

Oh my god, the stories I could tell you. "No, we didn't use a condom. It's fine though, i was on my period." Nooooooooooooo....

Not to mention the whole syncing up phenomenon! I've always been irregular, and when I went to college, my new roommate who had previously been super regular synced up with me. She was freaked out!

Anon who said it 'wouldn't really work' here, just replying to everyone's replies. I apologize in advance if I come across as aggressive. I just want to make sure I cover everything.

First off, I never said it wouldn't work at all, or that the woman would without a doubt know that she was pregnant. Notice the word 'unless' in my first post. All I'm saying is that there would need to be a reason she doesn't know.

Yes, I'm perfectly aware that stress/excitement/whatever can temporarily postpone periods. But a woman would still notice unless the 'whatever' was so all-consuming that she didn't really stop to think about it. Because the 6 weeks isn't just a little longer than normal. It's twice as long as the longest estimate of the average days between periods. Notice I said 'longest of the average.' NOT 'longest of the possible.'

And yes, I am aware that not all women track their periods. I said that myself in my first post. But a woman still has a general idea when she should be expecting it. Even when I forget to track mine I still have a kind of 'sixth sense' about it, and when it gets close to time I'll be like 'I bet it's coming soon.'

I know not all women are like this. But some others also notice because their body undergoes certain changes. For example, breasts swell shortly before the period starts because of hormone changes. That is noticeable on it's own, but if a woman had harmless cysts in her breasts (and most women do) then they might feel discomfort when the breasts swell. There are also other physical ways to notice, but I'm not going to go into them. My post would get too long.

Again, I know not all women are the same, and I do know that there are many reasons a woman might not notice. I'm just providing information for reference. The OP and any potential writers can do with it what they will.

Same person as above.

Just want to point out that while I still stick with everything I said, it's all kind of a moot point anyway. With as sensitive as Matt's super-senses are shown to be, I'm sure he would still be able to tell a woman is pregnant even before the fetus has a heartbeat.

Also wanted to point out that OP said Mpreg is fine. If w-anon chooses to go that route, than it would be obvious why the parent wouldn't know about the baby. I'm sure no matter how far into the pregnancy or what symptoms are experienced, a man probably wouldn't guess he was pregnant. Even if a doctor told him so, he probably wouldn't believe it without some really strong prove.

Uhg. Stupid html mess up. Posting again to make it readable.
