Oh boy, the whole reveal thing. Honestly, I would love either one. The potential angst of Foggy finding out that DD/Matt are the same person and possibly feeling betrayed/hurt by the reveal would be awesome. But at the same time the happier/crackier reveal would be pretty great because I love my avocados happy and in love.

I just want a semi-happy ending at the very least whatever the writer decides, if they decide to fill it. :)

There's so much potential there! Admittedly, I usually end up playing on the angsty side of the fence, since (among other reasons) I can't write crack/comedy. But yeah, if you follow the tone of the show, this reveal would come across as even more personal a betrayal than canon. Poor babies.

But on the other hand...can't you just see DD gracefully accepting the breakup, and heading on home all happy because Foggy loves him and maybe now Matt can finally have him in all the ways that really count. Only to suddenly stop short and realize that he can never let Foggy know because personal betrayal, blah blah blah. Cue massive angst and moping from Matt. But one night Foggy turns up unexpectedly (maybe as Matt's scrambling to hide the DD evidence), and instead of being either oblivious or shocked-and-horrified, he just makes some comment about how blind Matt must think Foggy is.

"Because I just spent [six months'] worth of nights getting up close and personal with that mouth of yours and then spent most of my days staring at it when I thought you wouldn't notice. You had to know I'd make the connection sooner or later."

(Because he "broke up" with DD to screw with Matt a little after he figured out they were one and the same. But he figured Matt would man up and do something instead of just marinating himself in "Matt Murdock is not allowed to be happy" angst. So Foggy figures it's his turn to surprise the hell out of his partner. With orgasms. And happy ever after endings. :D)

(Snippet!anon below) I wholeheartedly 1000% approve of this storyline and Foggy trolling Matt. :D

Because, really. Foggy isn't stupid. If he and DD are getting together on the regular, then he's going to put 2 and 2 together and get 5 eventually. Even if DD's careful to keep him from ever getting a good look at his face (even just the bottom half!), Foggy will eventually notice the similarities. Maybe Matt doesn't cover an injury carefully enough and Foggy remembers that DD was hurt in just that same place. Maybe Matt forgets himself enough (because he's with Foggy, the one guy that's completely in under his guard) that he starts slipping up and using Matt-phrases in DD's voice. Maybe Foggy just spends enough time staring at Matt's mouth that he really does recognize him that way. Whatever.

I can totally see Foggy going on a multi-day bender after that little epiphany while Matt quietly freaks out (in both guises), because something is oh-so-very wrong and Foggy won't tell (either of) him what it is. So he's probably actually kind of relieved despite the heartbreak when Foggy finally sits DD down for The Talk. And then Foggy spills about being head over heels for Matt. And that's awesome! ...Right up until he remembers that it can't ever happen. Because of SECRETS.

Cue moping and misery until Foggy snaps and goes OH MY GOD MATT I DIDN'T THINK YOU WERE THIS BLIND WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO GET INTO YOUR NON-CRIMEFIGHTING PANTS, JESUS CHRIST at him or something. XD

It TOTALLY DOES and I am itching to read the hell out of it fleshed out someday, because clever!Foggy and Matt!whump make my heart SING.

Yeah, I'm REALLY torn because on the hand, of course Foggy would know his own best friend if he was with him for months, but on the other hand, idk, I can't recognize most of my close friends by just their mouths and chins, I think (lots of mis-aimed selfies and other photos are testament to this), unless there's something extreme about them (unusually pointy, or a mole, or a chipped tooth, whatever). Admittedly, going the Matt/Foggy route Foggy has probably stared a LOT at Matt/Matt's smile, but if DD!Matt is disguising his voice and using darker, harsher smiles and smirks than Matt used around Foggy and they aren't doing much together outside of sex in the dark, depending on how long they were together Foggy may not recognize the cues? Like, they obviously couldn't have gone on a date to the zoo as Daredevil. XD The injuries, though, yes - it always amazes me that with how comfortably tactile they are, Matt wouldn't have done some major wincing at accidentally-harder-than-intended contact that'd just tip Foggy right off. I mean, he looks awful sometimes. ;_;

(Not that this is discouragement, because Foggy trolling Matt, and Foggy getting fed up with Matt's shit and shouting at him, are both AMAZING AND I LOVE IT and I'm so all in for it, just that I do think it is possible to not recognize a friend for a while depending on circumstances XD)

Oh, I have absolutely added this to my stack of prompts that I am going to write someday, omg, really. I am enjoying the idea far too much to just leave it now. :D Though I am delighted to hear you are liking it! And I have such a thing for Foggy being smart, you don't even know. Everyone underestimates the guy, especially standing next to Matt. But there are reasons Matt's best friends with the guy, you know? And it's not just because Foggy is a ray of sunshine or a perfect cinnamon roll. (And Matt!whump is just fun, because I am a terrible person.)

No, no. I know exactly what you mean. I know *I* would have trouble recognizing someone by just a partial look at the lower half of their face. Especially in low-light conditions (DD being a vigilante of the night who favours dark alleys and all) and (life-threateningly) stressful situations. And after they start hooking up, Matt's going to go to extra lengths to try and keep Foggy from seeing enough of him to recognize anything. So yeah. I can see Foggy not making the connection at all for a good, long time. Because you're absolutely right in everything you said in your reply.

BUT. The injuries. Those are a lot harder to overlook. And I think eventually Foggy will notice something about Matt that he last saw/felt with DD. And once might not be enough, but repeated times? DD gets the shit kicked of him A LOT, leaving poor Matt looking like a trainwreck sometimes. Between being worried out of his mind for his BFF, and trying to remember how not to hurt his hot sex friend this week, Foggy's going to figure it out eventually.

(And I honestly do think that Matt's going to slip up with the DD persona around Foggy sometimes. Heat of the moment, enjoying the afterglow, maybe just returning snark that's a bit more fond than sarcastic. Or all of the above. Again, maybe not enough on its own, but added to everything else...)

Good to know you're not discouraging this, though! Because I really do kind of love the idea. I am far too entertained at the notion of Foggy figuring it out, having a crisis over it, getting over his crisis, and going, "All right, then. If that's how he wants to play this, game fucking on." and setting out to screw with Matt. ...And then having to give in and whack him over the head with the clue bat anyway, because Matt's too busy wallowing in ~ANGST~. XD

Oh, yes, I LOVE when we get to see Foggy's brain and not just his role--Best Friend, Comic Relief, whatever, nope, let's have lawyer, let's have Matt Picked Him For Good Reason, let's have He Picked Matt For Good Reason, let's have They Are Equal Partners For Good Reason. Yes. Excellent.

Yeah, the injuries are what make me shake my head at Matt keeping secrets from Foggy in the first place and go "Why did you EVER think you'd be able to keep this from Foggy? Like serious, from the BEGINNING you should have cottoned on to the fact that he'd see them and know, smart guy." Like, him keeping that secret legit just bewilders me. XD

(Although yeah, some personality slipping would definitely occur, and he'd probably be constantly straddling the line between Coincidence/CommonQuirks and Suspicious. XD)

OH GOD NO, NO DISCOURAGEMENT, NONE. I am eagerly awaiting this, and eagerly awaiting Foggy being DONE, SO DONE, GODDAMNIT MURDOCK and, as you said, whacking him over the head with a clue bat. This sounds GLORIOUS and I can't WAIT. XD

YES, OMG YES, THIS. I love Foggy as a character and the friendship between him and Matt. And that friendship? Is in no way one-sided. They're both devoted to each other, they both admire each other, and they both need each other. I think it's easy to forget that, with Matt being his dramatic and charismatic self. But for all that Hell's Kitchen looks to Daredevil, he turns to Foggy. Foggy's a hell of a lot more than the comedic best friend sidekick. So an excuse to write that? Oh yes, please.

I know! I kept expecting someone to call him out on it in S1. I mean, he walks around looking like he's been dragged behind a bus for half a dozen blocks for a good chunk of the series! And he and Foggy spend a hell of a lot of time hanging out in each other's personal spaces, there is NO WAY that Foggy hasn't noticed how badly off he is at some points. How he ever thought he could keep that secret, I will never understand.

YES, exactly, ALL OF THAT. One-sided relationships are not my game, no, nope. I mean, I love some insecure!Foggy from time to time, but hell, he and Matt have been best friends and roommates for years and he dated Marci and he went to Columbia, so, you know. He's good, and he knows it, and Matt knows it, and that superceded Matt ever putting on the mask. So, yes!

Yeah, sometimes I'm like "WOW IS EVERYONE AROUND HIM OBLIVIOUS." I just, idk, if I'd been in that office I would have been losing my shit and fussing over Matt like crazy for his injuries and behaviour. =\

Yes, exactly! I don't doubt Foggy has his moments of insecurity (who wouldn't in his place, Jesus), but he and Matt have been living in each other's pockets for years and best friends from basically the moment they met. They recognize and acknowledge each other's strengths and on top of that, they're good together, and they know it. It's lovely. I cannot handle one-sided relationships. Moments of doubt are one thing, but if there isn't need and affection on both sides, I am out.

AGREED. My go-to explanation for why Foggy wasn't flipping the fuck out all through S1 is that he knows Matt has boundaries and is fiercely independent. There's only so much mother-henning he'll take, Foggy thinks. So he's careful not to fuss too much, but he watches. And worries.

(Matt is a beautiful, snarky, self-destructive mess, but he's got the balls to pull off a misdirection like that. XD)

Yeah, I'm the same about one-sided relationships, which is a big part of why I also can't stomach major power imbalances in most of my ships unless the one with more power is super reliant on the one with less in other aspects. Like, there has to be some measure of give and take, you know?

Yeah, I figure Foggy was giving Matt some space and allowing him his independence, but - but STILL there are some things where you WORRY. Like your friend acting like they're hiding pain and being injured in a way that doesn't look like they just ran into a door. =|

(Matt's definitely got balls in spades. I think that's where his ability to maintain healthy relationships like a well-adjusted person all went. XD)
