So above there is a prompt about Matt getting the chicken pox as an adult. Let's say, Matt got them when he was a kid, before the whole "painfully heightened senses" thing. And now, in this period of high stress and tension, it rears it's ugly head again, this time as shingles. Which, the OP and her normal senses can attest to, is akin to being set on fire. Constantly. For a period of 2-4 weeks. ~~IT IS LITERALLY AN INFLAMMATION OF YOUR NERVE ENDINGS AND ACTUAL HELL~~

I'm sorry I'm trash but I enjoy seeing Matt suffer and have to let others tAKE CARE OF HIM FOR ONCE.

Thank you because I was thinking it would have to be a literal MIRACLE for Matt not to have caught something like chicken pox living at an orphanage.

Right? All those children in close proximity added to the immune stress that had to have been caused by ~~the assho-~~ I MEAN STICK'S """"training"""" and Matt probably caught all sorts of common childhood illnesses.

My life has become allllll about Matt Murdock finally allowing others to take care of him, because that little shit is awful at taking care of himself. This is what my life has been reduced to, pouncing on fics that give ME some gd closure with respect to this muffin having friends who care about him, or they would if he gave them half a chance.

Absolutely. I just want the cinnamon bun to be taken care of and if he has to be greviously injured for him to let someone do it, so help me god that is what will happen!

Just dropping in to say I am working on filling this. But the darn thing has grown a mind of its own, and it's getting looooong and complicated, and it's become more of a Matt-is-being-smothery-mother-henned-by-everyone kind of thing, and I can't stop writing it because it's sucked me in. Matt Murdock's apartment is a beautiful place to spend your mini mind-vacation in.

So bear with me, okay? I might have it beta-read too, because English isn't my native language, but maybe not if I'm too impatient. I think I'm gonna need another week at least to wrap it up properly. We shall see how it goes.

And because I'm evil, I'm gonna give you a little preview taste. :-P

When he awoke, the world was swimming in a mist of hazy hues Matt wasn’t used to. There were no contours to his quasi-vision, or even shapes. Just a massive swirl of undulating color, a throbbing headache that had migrated to the back of his head, and what felt like hundreds of needles piercing the right side of his torso.

His t-shirt was clinging to his back, and he suspected he was running a fever. An involuntary moan escaped his mouth when he tried to prop himself up on his elbows.

“Oh, look, sleeping beauty has awoken,” he could hear Foggy’s voice drifting nearer.

Matt wasn’t in the mood for light-hearted banter. “What time is it?”

“Almost six.”

“In the evening?”

“Yeah.”

“I slept through the whole day?”

“Yeah, you kinda did. Although I’m not sure I would call all of it sleeping. You never used to thrash this much in law school. How are you feeling?”

“Not great.”

“Yeah, I’ll say. You’re running a fever, by the looks of it. Which isn’t all that unusual, if the interwebs can be believed. And by the way, I’ve had chickenpox, so apparently I’m reasonably safe. Unlike you, I remember every miserable minute of it. I was ten or eleven, and it royally sucked.”

“You did internet research on shingles?” Matt groaned.

“I’ve been here for hours, with only my laptop to keep me company. Can you really blame me?”

“Learn anything useful? Like an instant cure?”

“Hate to break it to you, but from what I’ve read, you’re gonna be looking forward to at least two weeks of this. Flu-like symptoms, pain, burning, tickling, tingling, numbness, blisters, itching. Did I mention swollen lymph nodes and chronic pain?”

“Enough,” Matt cut him off. “You’re not helping."

As the person that requested the chickenpox request, and then this lovely idea spawned, I just have one thing to say. Marry me. *hugs* This is great so far! I can't wait to read the full story!

LOL! Assuming you're female as well, and for the fact that I'm not actually bi or lesbian, I'm not sure I would say yes, but, hey, at least it's legal now. :-D But if not a committed relationship, I'm happy to have all the whump fans over at my place for a regular get-together and a rewatch of episode 10. If you fancy coming to Germany. Just sayin'...

And now I need to get back to poor, incapacitated Matt. Oh yeah, and my actual job that earns me a living. Too bad the two don't really mix.

See, and I've never even had shingles (and would like to keep it that way, thank you very much). Glad I managed to capture it, though.

I'm having a lot of vicarious imagination projection going on in this one, especially for the fact that Matt isn't exactly like any normal human being, and who ever knows what shingles would do to him? Feels a little over the top to have him incapacitated by a (more or less) local viral infection, seeing how he apparently manages to still kick ass when he has hairline fractured broken bones and severe blood loss, but what the heck. It's your prompt and my story, so... :-P

Believe me, you really really do. And you're probably safe, the only reason I got it was because I managed to catch chicken pox before I was old enough for the vaccine. >:/

So we take liberties lol. The real question is "Would Matt suspend his no hospitals rule to get some proper treatment?" And it does seem to be a lot of peoples headcanon (including mine) that, while Matt can handle XTREME BODILY TORMENT he's a giant baby when he actually gets sick, bless his heart.

Author!anon here. I had chickenpox as a kid too, although thankfully I don't remember much of that experience.

Would Matt suspend his no-hospitals rule for this? Well, in my mind, technically, no. Cause I had Foggy drag him to a clinic rather than a proper hospital. Because there's no way this would be left untreated with both Claire and Foggy knowing about it. So, yeah. (New question: Does Matt actually have health insurance?)

Hey anons who had chicken pox: there is a shingles vaccine now.

Also remember to get a booster every ten years. The vaccines for childhood diseases (mumps, measles - which just killed a woman in the US-, etc) wears off.

I just checked my vaccination booklet, and it looks I wasn't vaccinated for herpes zoster. I'm not sure what the vaccination scheme in Germany is, probably our health insurance only covers it for the elderly or at risk.

I have no idea what vaccines I have or haven't gotten... I moved too many times in the 90s. XD

Oh, and I looked up some info online. Apparently in Germany, the health insurances only recommend the shingles vaccine if you're over 50. So, yeah, that gives me another 11 years until I'm actually eligible. :-)

Fun (but useless) language fact: The German word for shingles (Gürtelrose) translates to "belt rose". I'm not sure if that's descriptively poetic, or just stupid.

Reminds me of the "Ring around the rosies" song - now there's another prompt!

Here in the US my dad's insurance wouldn't pay for it till he was 60. Even though my mom caught it when she was 55. :/

Herpes zoster is just the gift that keeps on giving :/
