honestly, yeah. this. I agree. if there's one thing I hate hate hate, it's characters explaining that their exes are terrible people to someone who knows only one person and has no idea of the history involved, because that...eh. makes me a little nervous and uncomfortable? (and it's SO CHILDISH. don't talk shit about your exes unless there is a current and pressing reason to talk shit about them, you dig? otherwise you sound like. a. child.)
i do agree with downthread nonny too: marci refusing to use ms. cardenas's name is racist and gross and makes her look bad. If they'd left that in there? Without Foggy aggressively confronting her about how they used to fuck/date and so she needs to listen to him and remember that she had a soul and all that nonsense?
Foggy & Karen would've been sympathetic, Marci would've been obviously the asshole, scene would've been cleaner.
As is? You get Foggy coming off as...eh, That Dude who's awesome while he's dating you and the minute you dump him he starts getting rude in public, and also Marci being racist.
Yeah their best bet is being forced to talk by shit circumstances (buried under rubble, one got hurt and the other dragged them home for makeshift medical care so they wouldn't die)
They won't reconcile their differences or stop fighting, but maybe knowing more about each other would make them hate each other a little less. Maybe enough to do have little ceasefires sometimes. Might lead to a weird fuckbuddyship that's basically just rough and angry (but still consensual) kissing and handjobs in back alleys.
Doing a 'Matt is abused by clergy' fill. Since the context is them taking Matt aside for 'extra prayers', I think it might be interesting to add in lines from a normal prayer that sound very sinister in context.
Currently I have this: http://www.catholicdoors.com/prayers/english/p00425.htm It works very well, but I know jack shit about prayers and I'm basically just flipping through various online prayer books. Ifyou know a traditional one that would work better, or think this is a bad idea, I'd love to hear your thoughts
Okay, so I've tried to find this via the Delicious thing, but with no luck. There was a prompt somewhere about Matt's experience on a plane, which I can't find. Does anyone happen to have a link to it?
I think Frank does respect Matt, even as he kind of sees him as naive and a hindrance.
I don't think they would ever have a traditional romance, but they could have a sexual relationship that they both kind of regret but keep going back to, with lots of complicated, messy feelings that they try to ignore.
Re: Interview with John Patrick Hayden (Jack Murdock)
* John found out his friend Rob Morgan was playing Turk Barrett on DD, and told him to 'stop picking on my son.'
Haha, that's so cute.
* The line to Jack about 'you're still young enough to have more kids' made John angry. During the podcast he said '... that line still makes me angry.'
Ugh, Jack must have wanted to beat that guy up so bad. And you know Matt heard it. Worse, he heard Jack quickly changing the subject instead of saying anything about how he doesn't need another kid. Matt has probably spent many sleepless nights thinking that Jack guiltily agreed with those guys, that he wanted a new kid to make up for Matt being "broken."
In the comics, Matt grew up thinking his mom was dead. Jack told him she was dead and he didn't find out that she was a alive until he became Daredevil.
In the show, I always figured that he thought his mom was dead, but so many fics portray Matt as knowing about his mom walking out, I'm wondering if I missed something.
In the show, is there ever a reference to his mom being alive or dead?
One of the nuns tells Stick (I believe) that Matt has no family except his mom and implies she's a mess of somesort. I don't know if Matt knows his mother is alive or not, though.
So I have seen The Hand and the Chaste referenced. What's the dealio with these mysterious ninja groups? Can someone give me a run down? Are they from Japan? Why are they in the United States? What's their ultimate mission?
man, is there anywhere I can post a strictly 616 prompt? bc, don't get me wrong, I love all the 616/MCU crossovers (TIPSY SCREAMING, "I LOVE EVERYBODY IN THIS BAR" sort of love), but. like. is there anywhere where we don't have to link a prompt with the show, just with the comics?
because I have a few seriously heartbreaking prompts in my head that wouldn't work as easily in MCU.
don't really think so. I mean, I haven't really seen anything on Tumblr? and the problem with Tumblr is that a lot of the time either the post with the prompt gets ignored, or people will reblog it and. not really write the fic.
I read this one noncon fic on the meme and I can't find it. I looked through the completed fills post, but I think it might not have been posted there.
It was Welsey/girl!Matt. Matt was tied to a chair and Wesley raped her by going down on her.
I think the problem for me is that Elden didn't really "sell" the line to me? Like, Foggy is usually just so nice to everyone; he didn't have the right inflection when he was telling Marci off. If I were her I'd have laughed in his face for sounding so ridiculous.
(I blame the writers also? It had the same awkward feel as that exposition scene where Foggy had that weird disagreement with Matt in front of the realtor)
Excellent, thanks so much! I remember reading the one where they talk about Matt taking Xanax, but I missed the earlier one. Now I just need the time and right inspiration to fill these. :-)
Also, doesn't Jack call Matt's mother before the fight with Creel? He calls someone female (they never say who) and leaves a message. He tells her to take care of Matt because he will need her now. And it looks like that doesn't happen, for whatever reason. Let me go and look up the actual dialogue:
"I'm about to go do something. Well, I'm about to go be me. You know better than anybody that doesn't always go so well. I don't know how this is gonna go, but if I were a betting man... Matty's gonna need you. More than ever. Look after him, okay? And I know what I'm asking here. He's a good kid. He sure as hell didn't get that from me, so... It's better this way. Just once, I want Matty to hear people cheer for his old man. Just once..."
In my headcanon, TVshow!Matt doesn't know that his mum is alive. If, like in the comics, she walked out before he could remember her, his dad could have simply kept that fact from him to protect him from the disappointment of having a mother who didn't want him.
